Driving a Private Car
In my opinion, driving a private car has many advantages for our spring trip.
Firstly, it gives us a lot of freedom. We can start our journey at any time we want, without worrying about the fixed schedules of buses or trains. Also, we can take as much luggage as we like. We can bring a big picnic basket filled with delicious food, and some folding chairs and a tent. In this way, we can have a picnic anywhere we find a nice place during our trip. Besides, traveling by car allows us to change our plans easily.
All in all, driving a car makes our spring trip more free, comfortable and special.
Taking Public Transport
As far as I know taking public transport, like a train or a bus, is a great choice.
First of all, it is much more environmentally friendly. By taking public transport, we produce less air pollution. Secondly, it can be much more relaxing. We don't need to focus on driving, so we can enjoy the spring scenery outside the window more comfortably. What's more, taking public transport is often cheaper. We can save some money on gas and parking fees. With the money saved, we can buy more local snacks or beautiful handicrafts in the city we visit.
All in all, taking public transport is not only good for the environment and our wallets but also offers a relaxing way to enjoy the spring scenery during our trip.

Do you know about the differences between American English and British English? How did
these differences come about? There is no quick answer to this question.
At first the languages in Britain and America were the same. In 1776 America became an
independent country. After that the languages slowly began to change. For a long time, the words in
America stayed the same, while the words in England changed. For example, 300 years ago the
English talked about “fall”. Today most British people talk about “autumn”,but Americans still
talk about “fall”.
In 1960, as American music got more popular around the world, American English words
about music styles became better known. This made the difference in vocabulary between
American and British English more obvious.
At the same time, British English and American English started borrowing words from other
languages. For example, the British took “typhoon” from Chinese, while the Americans took
"tornado" from Spanish.
Noah Webster was the most important person in the history of American English. In 1828
Noah Webster published the first American dictionary. He wanted to make American English
different from British English. So he changed the spelling of many words. Except for these
differences in spelling, written English is almost the same in both British English and American
English.
With the economic development, the USA is playing an important part in the world. The
differences between American English and British English are much greater in spoken language
nowadays. However, most of the time people from the two countries do not have any difficulty in
understanding each other.

On January 20, 2025, a Chinese tech company named Chinese
Hedge Fund High-Flyer made a new AI called Deepseek. It
quickly became the most downloaded free app on the Apple App
Store worldwide, followed by ChatGPT from OpenAI, Gemini
from Google and Liama 2 from Meta.
This smart program can solve math problems, write code, and answer questions like top
models such as OpenAI’s GPT, but it costs much less to build. The company spent only 5.58

American’s best AI with less cost and less-powerful chips (芯片).”
Usually, AIs need lots of prepared examples to improve, while Deepseek learns by itself. For
example, when dealing with customer service questions or recognizing images (识别图像 ),
Deepseek doesn’t need a lot of pre-made examples like old-style AIs. It just figures things out on
its own and does a much better job. Therefore, it can help run on low-cost computers helping
schools and small companies.
These great advantages of Deepseek have attracted (吸引) wide attention. More and more
international companies want to work with Chinese AI labs. This makes China’s influence in the

money on AI research to develop advanced (先进的) AI like Deepseek and get a place in this
popular area.
As a rising AI star, DeepSeek has a bright future. It can be changed for online shopping and

14. What will the writer probably discuss after the last paragraph?
A. The reasons why Deepseek has a bright future.
B. The challenges or problems that Deepseek may face.
C. The plans of Deepseek to partner with other AI companies.

A Timely Business
初四英语试题第8页(共 8 页)
April 15, 1860—A special day! The Pony Express (驿马快递), a fast mail delivery service (投递
业务), successfully completed its first journey from Saint Joseph in Missouri to Sacramento in
California. This exciting journey began on April 3.
The Pony Express hired skilled horse riders to carry letters and small packages (包裹). They
promised delivery from one end of the run to the other in 10 days or less!
In those days, communication over long distances was a challenge. Finally, there was a way to
communicate with friends and family who live far away. You would not have to depend on slow boats
or stagecoaches (公共马车). About 180 riders, 400 fast horses, and 190 pony express stations made
up the pony express. Its riders were mainly of small build, and many were teenagers. They were
chosen for their light weight, which could make the horses run faster. A day’s work was made up of
about a 75-mile trip, with stops at several stations. The stations were about 10 to 15 miles apart. At
each station, riders would quickly change to a fresh horse to keep up the speed. Riders earned about
$100 to $150 a month. The Pony Express worked day and night to make sure important letters and
packages arrived on time.
October 26, 1861—Sad news for the pony express. After only about 19 months, the service
closed its doors because of the opening of the telegraph (电报), a device that has changed long-
distance communication. The Pony Express lost a lot of money and had to stop. Despite its short
existence, it played an important role in American history.
Before closing, the Pony Express set a record that delivering a package took just 7 days and 17
hours from St. Joseph, Missouri to Sacramento, California.
58. When did the pony express finish its first journey? (答案不超过5个词)
59. What made up the pony express?
60. How many stations would a rider of the pony express pass by in a day at least? (答案不超过2个词)
61. Why did the pony express close its doors? (答案不超过7个词)
62. Imagine you were the owner of the Pony Express in 1861. Facing the competition from the
telegraph service, what method(s) would you think of to save the Pony Express business? Give your
reason(s).
63. How do you usually communicate with your far-away friends? Why?
