It’s reported that a common family produces more than one ton of rubbish a year. Some of this waste takes hundreds of years to decay. Also, it costs much money to buy new things to take the place of the things we throw away.
In order to protect the environment and save money, my family has recycled everything. On the one hand, we collect used things every day, such as paper, bottles and boxes, and put them into different bins. Then they are sent to a recycling center. Finally, they are treated and can be used again. Recycling will help reduce a lot of waste. On the other hand, we use old clothes to make different kinds of bags. I especially like to use old jeans to make bags. These cute and useful bags are popular with young people. As a result, I open a small shop and set up a website to sell them online.
What’s more, my parents and my brother often go to work by bike. If it rains, they’ll take the bus. We’re also going to grow our own vegetables, raise cows, keep hens and ducks. Soon, we’ll be able to have eggs and milk for meals.

Celebrating the First “ICH Spring Festival”
This year’s Spring Festival is very special because China celebrates its first “Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) Spring Festival” (非物质文化遗产春节). ICH means traditions passed down from old times, such as paper-cutting, lion dances, and traditional food-making. These traditions help us remember our history and culture.
In the past, the Spring Festival mainly focused on (专注) family dinners and red packets. But this year we tried more ICH activities. My family made paper lanterns, and our community had a fun shadow puppet show. My grandparents even taught young people to write the Spring Festival couplets! It was interesting to mix old traditions with modern life.
I also learned that protecting ICH is not only about the past. For example, some artists use traditional patterns to make cute zodiac stickers (生肖贴纸) for phones! This shows that old culture can be new and fun.
This Spring Festival, while eating dumplings and watching fireworks, let’s also remember the value of our traditions. Culture makes us who we are!

What will the weather be like? Some animals can tell the weather. If people want to know the weather, they can watch the animals.
When the weather is not good, sea birds will stay on the shore (海岸). They don’t like to fly (飞) in the strong wind. They may stay in a tree when a heavy rain is coming. But when we see sea birds flying high in the sky, we can know it will be a sunny day.

When it’s going to rain, the frogs (青蛙) will stay in the water and make big noise (噪音) with “croak, croak”. But if it is a fine day, the frogs will be out of the water and make big noise.

Different weather makes people feel different. It has an influence (影响) on health, intelligence (智力) and feelings.
In August, it is very hot and wet in the southern part of the United States. People there have heart trouble and other kinds of health problems during this month. In the Northeast and the Middle West, it is very hot at some times and very cold at other times. People in these states have more heart trouble after the weather changes in February or March.
The weather can also influence intelligence. For example, in a 1983 report by scientists, the IQ (智商) of a group of students was very high when a very strong wind came, but after the strong wind, their IQ was 10% lower. The wind can help people have higher intelligence. Very hot weather, on the other hand, can make it lower. Students in many schools of the United States often get worse in exams in the hot months of the year (July and August).
Weather also has a strong influence on people’s feelings. Winter may be a bad time for thin people. They usually feel cold during these months. They might feel unhappy during cold weather. But fat people may have a hard time in hot summer. At about 18℃, people feel more comfortable.

Going green makes a big difference in our life. I’m Jessica Wong. Today I’ll tell you what my family does every day to save the Earth.
