阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。
A
Here’re some fun holidays you may like.
Square Root Day
It’s celebrated on a day where the first two digits in the date are the square root of the last two digits. Only date formats (格式) that have the month and date first and the last two digits of the year last(mm/dd/yy, m/d/yy, dd/mm/yy or d/m/yy) can have Square Root Days. Ron Gordon, an American high school teacher, created this unofficial holiday.
Yellow Pig Day
July 17 is Yellow Pig Day. Despite its name, the day is not a celebration for pigs, but a celebration of the number 17. The unofficial holiday was created in the early 1960s by Princeton mathematics students, David Kelly and Michael Spivak, while working on the special properties of the number 17.
e-Day
e-Day celebrates the mathematical constant (常数) e, which has a value of 2.7182818. It is celebrated on February 7 in countries that follow the month/day (m/d) date format. This is because the first two digits of the date — 2/7 — correspond to the first two digits of the constant.
Fibonacci Day
This annual holiday is created to remember one of the most influential mathematicians of the Middle Ages — Leonardo Bonacci. It falls on November 23 because when the date is written in the mm/dd format (11/23), the digits in the date form a Fibonacci sequence: 1,1,2,3, which is a series of numbers where a number is the sum of the two numbers before it. For example: 1,1,2,3… is a Fibonacci sequence. Here, 2 is the sum of the two numbers before it (1+1). Similarly, 3 is the sum of the two numbers before it (1+2).
21.Which of the following is Square Root Day of 2025?
A.On March 3 rd. B.On April 4th.
C.On May 5th. D.On June 6th.
22.Which honors a famous person?
A.Square Root Day. B.Fibonacci Day.
C.Yellow Pig Day. D.e-Day.
23.What do the listed holidays have in common?
A.They were created by the same person.
B.They are celebrated every other year.
C.They are recognized by authorities.
D.They have much to do with math.

)One week after I started working in Beijing, I decided to visit a place of interest called the Summer Palace. Before setting off, I researched it on the Internet. The Summer Palace is composed mostly of a lake, but it’s surrounded by beautiful greenery and a walkway that circles the lake. It is recommended that you give the Summer Palace about three hours. If you try to walk around it, it could take five or six hours. With that knowledge of it, I set off.
The highlight of the tour had to be the view from the Tower of Buddhist Incense. It sits on the top of a large hill overlooking the lake and is worth a climb. It was built as a place to worship the Buddha. And in the Summer Palace, unlike in most of other places, photography isn’t allowed in most of the buildings. Pictures of most of the Buddhas and the other artifacts are off⁃limits for photographers.
Another highlight was seeing the stage created for the Dowager Empress where she watched operas and other theater items. There are box seats that surround the stage and it was the largest stage created in Imperial China. You could almost imagine royalty reviewing the actors from the boxes and the stage.
I do recommend taking a boat ride if you go, which takes you from one side of the lake to the other side where you can see another set of buildings. And it is fun. You can also rent an electric boat or paddleboat if you want. But since it was just me, I went aboard one of the biggest boats with other people.
I spent another four hours wandering around the Summer Palace. But I didn’t see all of it because it was getting dark. How I wish I could visit it again.
24.What did the author do before setting off for the Summer Palace?
A.Asked others about it. B.Learned something about it.
C.Spent three hours researching it. D.Rented a boat.
25.What does the underlined word “off⁃limits” in Paragraph 2 probably mean?
A.Forbidden. B.Allowed. C.Charged. D.Limited.
26.What do we know about the stage mentioned in the text?
A.It sits on the top of a hill. B.It is the largest stage all over China.
C.It was for royalty to watch performances. D.Operas are performed there at times.
27.Which of the following correctly describes the author’s tour?
A.She took a boat by herself.
B.She spent four hours in the Summer Palace.
C.She didn’t enjoy the trip because it was too late.
D.She only toured part of the Summer Palace.

Billionaire Elon Musk on Wednesday announced that he has formed a new artificial intelligence (AI) company, xAI, which has employed researchers from Google, OpenAI and other top technology companies. The goal, Musk tweeted, is “to understand reality.”
Musk isn’t a novice to AI given that Tesla uses the technology in its cars. While xAI didn’t mention what projects it will be working on, the company noted that its team of 11 researchers are draw n from top tech companies such as Microsoft Research, OpenAI and Google.
Musk suggested that the reason he picked July 12, 2023, to announce the start of xAI is connected with a science fiction classic, Douglas Adams’ The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. In his tweet, he noted that adding the date 7-12-23 equals 42, which the work of the fiction famously assumes is the answer to life.
The company said it will be advised by Dan Hendrycks, director of the Center for AI Safety. Hendrycks pointed out where AI could cause problems. “AIs could be used by bad people to make new deadly bioweapons,” Hendrycks said in May. “Or people could make AI that tries to hurt people on purpose. If this AI was really smart, it could be a big danger to all of us.”
The first time xAI was shown to the public was after Musk talked about it in April to the former Fox News host Tucker Carlson. Musk told Carlson that OpenAI’s ChatGPT was a bit restricted and that he wanted to create a different tool that would be a super honest AI that tries to learn how everything in the world works.
The startup reflected Musk’s long-voiced concerns about a future in which AI systems could present an existential risk to humanity. Musk said the idea is that an AI that wants to understand humanity is less likely to des troy it.
28. What does the underlined word “novice” in Paragraph 2 probably mean?
A. Director. B. Supporter. C. Partner. D. Beginner.
29. Why is Douglas Adams mentioned in Paragraph 3?
A. He was a friend of Musk.
B. His book was very famous.
C. He was a guide of the start of xAI.
D. He was connected with the announcing date.
30. Why did Musk talk to Tucker Carlson?
A. To make xAI popular.
B. To explain why he started xAI.
C. To show how xAI works.
D. To criticize OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
31. What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A. Creating an honest AI is Musk’s dream.
B. It is difficult to control AI systems.
C. Musk worries about the danger of AI.
D. AI has trouble understanding humanity.

Do you ever wonder about what the term “locally-grown food” means? Do you wonder where your food comes from? Locally-grown food and sustainability are on the rise, and it’s important to know why this trend in farming matters.
Hawaii, in particular, is a pretty isolated place. About 85 percent of food is imported. Much of what gets to their table depends on what comes to use by ship. Sometimes, one notices there is no milk or other product left at the grocery story because there is a problem with a barge (驳船).
Steven Chiang, a professor from University of Hawaii, pointed out that in Hawaii, the cost of labor is high for people who might want to farm the land. Since many different groups or individuals own small pieces of land, getting access to farmland is also difficult.
However, Chiang added, “there are many benefits to growing food locally on the islands and elsewhere.” For one, they can hold onto traditions and the types of food they like. Food in soil will have the chance to mature more, and maybe absorb more nutrition. Areas of land that might be used for other things, like new apartment or office buildings, can be preserved. Also, plants can extract the carbon dioxide in the air, benefiting the environment.
Chiang said that there was more to locally-grown food than just those benefits. “Having local food helps make people aware of where their food comes from,” he said. When people are disconnected from the food system and don’t know where their food comes from, there’s a tendency to make potentially negative choices. “Because we’re so efficient at shipping and importing,” he added, “We don’t realize or know what it takes, and that can lead to poor decisions that can harm us all.”
So what can you do? In Hawaii, there are many opportunities to volunteer at local farms. But in other areas around the world, you can do your part by supporting and buying locally-grown food. You can also help spread awareness by educating your friends and family. You can even grow your own food—in a container in your kitchen or in your backyard!
32. What can be inferred about Hawaii’s food supply?
A. Hawaii relies heavily on imported food.
B. Hawaii’s cost of living is low for farmers.
C. Hawaii’s grocery stores are often short of milk.
D. Hawaii’s farmland is enough for all local needs.
33. Which is a benefit of growing food locally?
A. Lowering the cost of local labor.
B. Increasing the variety of imported food.
C. Preserving land for non-agricultural use.
D. Offering quick access to imported food.
34. What is Chiang’s attitude towards locally-grown food?
A. Negative. B. Doubtful.
C. Undecided. D. Favorable.
35. What is the author’s purpose of writing the last paragraph?
A. To encourage gardening at home.
B. To advocate sustainable practices.
C. To promote local farming in Hawaii.
D. To discourage buying imported food.

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料, 根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段, 使之构成一篇完整的短文。
There were many embarrassing times and situations when I was in primary school. I vividly remember a moment that I still regret to this day.
During my childhood, an important part of my time was spent on my collection of National Geographic magazines. Each year on my birthday, my mother would gift me a new magazine to add to my growing collection, which I treasured very much. One day, when I was seven, I ran across a picture of a bologna tree. However, I didn't actually read the article about the tree. I just thought I discovered the source of bologna sandwiches! Little did I know that this newfound knowledge would come back to trouble me in the future.
Not long after, I found an opportunity to show my rich knowledge and prove to my classmates that I was indeed a smart kid. During a classroom discussion about unusual things, I took the moment to confidently stand up in front of the whole class. With an air of authority, I declared, “It is a well-known fact that bologna sandwiches come from the bologna tree.”
I deeply believe that the delicious sandwiches I had tasted during a family vacation to Italy grow on trees. This extremely silly opinion was a source of both embarrassment and frustration for me. However, my teacher Ms Murphy at this moment was kind enough to smile and tell me that my misconception (错误想法) was “quite imaginative”. Unfortunately, my classmates didn't have the same opinion, as they laughed loudly and declared that my belief was “the stupidest thing they had ever heard”. It was a moment that made me feel foolish and ashamed.
For a while after that incident, I was filled with feelings of self-doubt and insecurity. I was ashamed of my inability to distinguish (辨别) fact from imagination. I felt like a clown (小丑), thinking that my classmates would never let me forget my foolish mistake.
注意:
1.续写词数应为 150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
For the next couple of weeks, I was determined to avoid any further embarrassment.

【原文】W: A nearly 300-year-old violin will soon sell for more than $10 million. There are many violins, but this one is like a painting by Pieter Lastman, or even Leonardo da Vinci. This one was made by an Italian violin maker Giuseppe Guarneri in 1736. He is often compared to another famous Italian violin maker, Antonio Stradivari. The violin is owned by Regis Pasquier. He is known as one of the top violinists in the world. He bought the violin more than 20 years ago. He played the instrument in places like Carnegie Hall in New York and the Opera Garnier in Paris. The violin will be up for sale following a three-day viewing. Some people said it could sell for up to $10 million. At that price, the violin would not even be the most expensive in the world. In 2012, an unnamed buyer paid $16 million for a violin that was once owned by 19th-century violinist Henri Vieuxtemps. The most valuable violin is believed to be the Messiah Stradivarius. The violin is estimated to be worth $20 million dollars. It can be seen at the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford, Britain.
第二部分 阅读(共两节,满分50分)
第一节(共15小题;每小题2.5分,满分37.5分)
【答案】21. C 22. B 23. D
【解析】
【导语】本文为一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了四个与数字有关的节日。
【21题详解】
细节理解题。根据文章Square Root Day部分“It’s celebrated on a day where the first two digits in the date are the square root of the last two digits. Only date formats(格式) that have the month and date first and the last two digits of the year last(mm/dd/yy, m/d/yy, dd/mm/yy or d/m/yy) can have Square Root Days.(平方根庆祝的日期就在:当日期的前两位数是后两位数的平方根。日期的格式必须是月份、日期在前,年份在后这天才能庆祝平方根节,其日期格式可以是:月月/日日/年年,月/日/年年,日日/月月/年年,或者日/月/年年。)”可知,日期的格式是年份在后,故表达为日/月/2025,或者月/日/2025,且日期的前两位数是后两位数的平方根,25的平方根是5,故“日/月”或者“月/日”上的数字均为5,故为5月5日,故选C。

)One week after I started working in Beijing, I decided to visit a place of interest called the Summer Palace.
【答案】24.B 25.A 26.C 27.D

【答案】28. D 29. D 30. B 31. C

【29题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段“In his tweet, he noted that adding the date 7-12-23 equals 42, which the work of the fiction famously assumes is the answer to life.(马斯克在推特中指出把日期里的数字相加等于42,正是那部著名小说中假定的生命的答案)”。
根据倒数第二段“Musk told Carlson that Open AI’s ChatGPT was a bit restricted and that he wanted to create a different tool that would be a super honest AI that tries to learn how everything in the world works(马斯克告诉卡尔森OpenAI公司的ChatGPT比较受限制,他想要创造一个不同的工具,一个能去学习世间万物真理的非常忠实的AI)”可知,马斯克在解释他创办xAI的原因,故选B。
【31题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段“The startup reflected Musk’s long-voiced concerns about a future in which AI systems could present an existential risk to humanity(这个新公司反映了马斯克明显的担忧,未来AI系统可能会带来关乎人类存亡的风险)”,可推测出这段话主要表达了马斯克对于AI的担忧,故选C。

【答案】32. A 33. C 34. D 35. B

注意:
1.续写词数应为 150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
For the next couple of weeks, I was determined to avoid any further embarrassment.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
I began to share information with my classmates again and became more careful about the information.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】One possible version:
For the next couple of weeks, I was determined to avoid any further embarrassment. I refused to open the magazines and kept my mouth shut during classes. I felt like I was walking on eggshells, constantly worried that I might say something foolish. I was afraid to share my opinions or ask questions. As a result, I became increasingly isolated. I didn’t participate in any activities that might show my ignorance until Ms Murphy talked with me, enlightening me patiently. My spirits lifted, and I felt cheerful once more.
I began to share information with my classmates again and became more careful about the information. I started to double-check my sources and read articles in their entirety before sharing any information with others, unwilling to make the same mistake twice. It was a lesson learned the hard way, but it made me realize the importance of confirming information before presenting it to others. And while my bologna tree story might have been a bit embarrassing at the time, it ultimately taught me an important lesson that has stayed with me throughout my life.
