“Vernon Dursley speaking!”
Harry, who happened to be in the room at the time, froze as he heard Ron’s voice answer.
“HELLO? HELLO? CAN YOU HEAR ME? I-WANT-TO-TALK-TO-HARRY-POTTER!”
Ron was shouting so loudly that Uncle Vernon jumped and held the receiver a foot away from his ear, looking at it with an expression of mixed anger and fear.
“WHO IS THIS?” he shouted loudly into the phone. “WHO ARE YOU?”
“RON - WEASLEY!” Ron bellowed back. It seemed like he and Uncle Vernon were speaking from opposite ends of a football field. “I’ M-A-FRIEND-OF-HARRY'S-FROM-SCHOOL ”
Uncle Vernon’s small eyes turned quickly to Harry, who was unable to move.
“THERE IS NO HARRY POTTER HERE!” he shouted angrily, now holding the receiver at arm’s length, like he was afraid that it might explode (爆炸). “I DON'T KNOW WHAT SCHOOLYOU'RE TALKING ABOUT! NEVER CONTACT ME AGAIN! DON'T YOU COME NEAR MYFAMILY!”
Uncle Vernon hated anything to do with that unnatural magic school and its strange students. And he threw the receiver back onto the telephone as if dropping something dangerous.
The noisy argument (吵闹) that had followed had been one of the worst ever.
“HOW DARE YOU GIVE THIS NUMBER TO PEOPLE LIKE - PEOPLE LIKE YOU!” Uncle Vernon had shouted so angrily that his mouth water flew at Harry.
Ron clearly realized that he’d got Harry into trouble, because he hadn’t called again. Harry’s other best friend from Hogwarts (魔法学校名字) , Hermione Granger, hadn’t been in touch either. Harry thought that Ron had warned Hermione not to call, which was a pity, because Hermione, the cleverest witch (巫师) in Harry’s year, had non-magical parents, knew perfectly well how to use a telephone, and would probably have had enough sense not to say that she went to Hogwarts.
So Harry had had no word from any of his magical friends for five long weeks, and this summer was turning out to be almost as bad as the last one. There was just one, very small improvement: after promising that he wouldn’t use her to send letters to any of his friends, Harry had been allowed to let his owl (鹰), Hedwig, out at night.
18. Who answered the phone when Ron called?
A. Harry. B. Hermione. C. Hedwig. D. Uncle Vernon.
19. The underlined word “bellowed” in Paragraph 6 shows the voice was _______.
A. soft B. weak C. loud D. gentle
20. What does the underlined word “her” in the last paragraph refer to?
A. A school teacher. B. Hedwig. C. Harry’s friend. D. A witch.
21. Why did Uncle Vernon say Harry wasn’t there?
A. Harry was sleeping. B. He hated magic things. C. Harry was at school. D. He was joking.

More and more foreign tourists are visiting China. Local guides who speak foreign languages are helping these visitors discover exciting parts of Chinese culture. For example, Dan Niu used to work in a company, but now takes tourists on bike rides in Shanghai. His tours go through small streets where visitors can taste delicious snacks and meet local people.
China has made it easier for foreigners to visit by allowing some to come without a visa (签证). This change brought over 20 million foreign tourists last year! Travel companies need more guides who can speak English, Russian, and other languages. Although translation apps are helpful, real guides can explain culture better and make visitors feel welcome.
Tourists love trying traditional Chinese activities like writing Chinese calligraphy (书法) or visiting places from movies. Clever guides plan special trips—older visitors enjoy history walks, while young travelers prefer finding cool street food and exploring cities.
Some guides like Yami in Chengdu use popular apps to connect with Russian tourists. She shows them giant pandas and teaches them about Sichuan's famous spicy (辣的) food. At the same time, she learns about life in Russia from her new friends!
54. How does Dan Niu show tourists around Shanghai?

“Vernon Dursley speaking!”
Harry, who happened to be in the room at the time, froze as he heard Ron’s voice answer.
“HELLO? HELLO? CAN YOU HEAR ME? I-WANT-TO-TALK-TO-HARRY-POTTER!”
Ron was shouting so loudly that Uncle Vernon jumped and held the receiver a foot away from his ear, looking at it with an expression of mixed anger and fear.
“WHO IS THIS?” he shouted loudly into the phone. “WHO ARE YOU?”
“RON - WEASLEY!” Ron bellowed back It seemed like he and Uncle Vernon were speaking from opposite ends of a football field.
【答案】18. D 19. C 20. B 21. B

Yours truly,
A Grade 9 Student
【答案】例文
Dear Voice Up Team,
I suggest giving each grade a different lunch time. Now, the dining hall is too crowded at noon. Students wait in long lines and have little time to eat. Some even leave without finishing their meals.
This change is needed because too many students in the dining hall make it noisy and messy. If students eat at different times, there will be more seats and shorter lines.
Shorter waiting time means students can sit down, enjoy their food, and chat with friends. They will also have energy for afternoon classes. This plan can make the dining hall a better place for everyone.
Yours truly,
A Grade 9 Student
