My family is always late for activities, and it’s embarrassing for me.
Talk to your parents about this. You could also do what you can to help everyone get out of the door on time. Get yourself ready and then see if there is anything you can do to help someone else. For example, grab a jacket for someone or turn off the TV and lights before leaving.
I work very hard for tests, but after I finish taking one, I feel I haven’t done well.
Before a test, take some deep breaths and relax. Remind yourself that you have studied hard and that your most important responsibility as a student is to try your best. It may also help to share your feelings with your parents or teachers.
Some elder kids in my after-school program make fun of my artwork, especially when I make a mistake.
Sometimes people laugh at you in order to get your attention, just forget about it. Or you could laugh it off and say something like “Are you kidding? This is perfect!”
Remember that there are few “rights” and “wrongs” when it comes to art. Every artist has his or her own style. Stay true to your own sense of creativity.

We all know the words “early bird” and “night owl”. People have used these words for years to categorize (分类) people according to their sleeping habits. More recently, however, sleep researcher Dr Michael Breus introduced a more detailed system based on sleep types. According to Dr. Breus, everyone falls into one of four sleep types: lion, bear, wolf and dolphin.
Most humans are the bear type because they usually sleep from around 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. and work best between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. The typical structures of modern society, such as the standard nine-to-five workday, suit bears well.
Lions are the ones who get up earliest. They go to bed at about 9 p.m. and wake up as early as 5 a.m. They do their best work in the morning. Lions are often socially confident and charming, which, combined with their ability, makes them natural leaders.
Wolves are like night owls. They don’t like waking up before 8 a.m. and reach their best mental state in the afternoon. It’s hard for them to start work at 9 a.m. But if they can make their own work hours, they can get a lot done.
Dolphins have random (随意的) sleep habits, mainly because they often feel worried and think a lot. Having a bedtime routine is important for them to calm down before sleep. Dolphins are very creative and good at solving problems.
Why is this information useful to us? Knowing your sleep type helps you recognize when you’re most likely to feel most energetic and can do your best work. By planning your work and free time according to your sleep patterns, you can work better and sleep better. It can also guide you on how to best structure your life.
4. According to the passage, what time do bears usually sleep?
A. From around 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. B. From around 11 p.m. to 7 a.m.
C. From around 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. D. From around 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
5. People who feel sleepy in the morning but energetic in the afternoon are most likely to be ________.
A lions B. bears C. wolves D. dolphins
6. How does the writer develop the passage?
A. By listing numbers. B. By telling stories.
C. By asking questions. D. By giving explanations.
7. What is the main purpose of the passage?
A. To guide people on how to change their sleep habits.
B. To introduce sleep types and their effects on daily life.

Karie double-checked the words on her spelling test. If she got 100 percent today, she’d win her class’s Spelling Challenge and a brand-new dictionary. What’s more, Ms. McCormack had promised to do a handstand (倒立) if anyone got a perfect score.
Three more words to go. N-i-c-e-l-y. Q-u-i-c-k-l-y. H-o-n-e-s-t-y. Wait! She’d spelled honesty, not honestly! She erased “t-y” and wrote “I-y” before handing in her paper.
After breaks, Ms. McCormack walked in and cleared her throat, “Congratulations, Karie! You did it!?” The whole class cheered! Ms. McCormack then gave Karie the prize with the label on it: To Karie, for her perfect score in spelling.
“Is everything OK?” Mom asked Karie after school.
“Everything’s PERFECT!” Karie shouted, showing Mom her spelling test and prize.
Mom hugged her, “Dad must be excited about it.” “And Casper, too,” Karie scooped up her cat, “Can you spell ‘nicely,’ Casper? And ‘quickly’ and ‘honesly’, and…” Honesly? Oh, My! “H-O-N-E-S-L-Y”! Karie’s stomach tumbled (摔倒) to the floor.
She put Casper down and stuffed the test paper into her bag as soon as possible.
She fell onto her bed. How could she tell the class she hadn’t earned the prize after all? That Ms. McCormack did the handstand for nothing?
Karie pulled out the test paper. She picked up her pencil. If she put the missing “t” back in, no one would know…
The next morning, Karie went to school early. Her hands trembled. She gave Ms. McCormack the test paper and the dictionary. “I can’t keep this. I misspelled ‘honestly’ and you didn’t catch it, Ms. McCormack.”
For a moment, Ms. McCormack stood quietly reading the label on the dictionary. Then she picked up her pen, crossed out the word “perfect” and wrote “honest” before handing the dictionary back to Karie.
Karie asked. “I can still keep this, honestly?”
“For ‘honestly,’ no,” Ms. McCormack smiled, “But for honesty, yes.”

①Living in China has made me realize how convenient life can be. It’s much better than I ever thought.
②The moment I came to this country, a wave of pleasant surprise washed over me. The public transport system, especially in its big cities like Beijing and Shanghai, is great. The subway networks cover every part of the big cities. People can avoid the traffic jams and get to where they want to go much faster. High-speed trains that connect cities like Beijing and Shanghai in less than five hours are another example of China’s wonderful transportation system.
③Another great thing that stands out in China is the availability (可用性) of services. If my bike is broken and needs a repairman, or if I want to have daily needs, electronics or even medicine, I just need to make a phone call or click on my phone a few times. Since everything is available online, I no longer have to go far to the supermarket or the store. It is one of the key reasons I’ve stayed in China for so long—something I’ve never experienced in any other country.
④What’s more, China’s convenience doesn’t only lie in the speed of services, but also in their user- friendliness. The whole system is designed with user experience in mind. For example, the apps I use for transportation or deliveries are user-friendly, even for people who are not good at technology. Everything, including payment methods, is simple and direct. It means you don’t need to spend time learning how to use the systems. This makes it easy for everyone to get things done without difficulties.

A. From around 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. B. From around 11 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Karie double-checked the words on her spelling test. If she got 100 percent today she’d win her class’s Spelling Challenge and a brand-new dictionary.

⑤The convenience in China has made me more productive and relaxed. I’m sure that with technological progress and infrastructure (基础设施) development, life in China will become even more convenient in the future.
12 What is the main idea of this passage?
A. The kinds of user-friendly apps.
B. The convenience of living in China.
C. The future of technological progress in China.

13. What does the underlined word “It” in Paragraph 3 refer to?
A. People can easily use different apps.
B. People can connect with others by phone.
C. People can get whatever they want online.
D. People can go anywhere by high-speed train.
14. What is the structure of the passage?
A. B. C. D.
15. Which of the following is most likely to be the writer of this passage?
A. Yurina, an international student in Beijing for 4 years.
B. Teng Fei, a Chinese who has just returned from abroad.
C. Amy, a foreigner who has had a one-week trip to China.
