The following three steps will help people to become critical thinkers. Step 1: 21 Critical thinkers start by asking questions. They ask themselves: If this, then what? If that, then how will the result be different? They may think about all possible ideas before they make decisions. Step 2: 22 Critical thinkers search for answers. They make use of all possible tools or interview people for information. Then they analyze(分析) the information with an open mind. They compare and decide what the best answers are. Step 3: 23 After critical thinkers get new ideas to work out problems, they share these ideas with their teammates and get support from them. During communication with others, better ideas often come up. For questions 1-3, match each step with the choices (A-D). There is one you do not need. A child’s bones, such as those in the fingers and wrist, include “growing zones” at both ends called growth plates. These plates include special cells that are useful for the bones’ growth in length. It’s easy to recognize growth plates on an X-ray because they’re softer and include less water, which makes them appear darker on an X-ray image (影像) than the rest of the bone. As children grow, growth plates change in appearance on the X-ray images and become thinner, finally disappearing. Because they look different at a different age, a doctor can decide a bone age based on the appearance of the bones and growth plates. A child’s bone age is judged by comparing the appearance of the child’s bones on the X-ray with the standard information. The bone age study can help judge how fast or slowly a child’s bone is growing, which can help doctors find out reasons that put off or increase the speed of growth. A bone age X-ray doesn’t need special preparation. A child will be asked to take off all clothes from the area that will be on X-ray, because they can influence the results of the image. A child will be asked to enter a special room that will probably include a table and a large X-ray machine, sit on a small seat and put his or her left hand on the table with fingers spread. A protective object will be offered. The child will also be asked to keep unmovable for several seconds while the X-ray is taken, which is important to make sure that X-ray image is clear. In general, X-rays are very safe. Although radiation does harm to the body, the total number used in a bone age study is small and not considered dangerous. 24.The bone age study is carried out in order to ________. A.stop a kid from growing too fast B.make a thinner kid on weight C.know about a kid’s future appearance D.help deal with a kid’s growth problem 25.While the X-ray is taken, a kid has to ________. A.stay still for a few seconds B.be prepared by emptying the stomach C.put on all the clothes D.be given something to avoid radiation 26.What’s the main purpose of the passage? A.To give information about the bone age study. B.To list some reasons for the bone age study. C.To show the importance of the bone age study. D.To describe the problems of the bone age study. 【答案】24.D 25.A 26.A 【导语】本文主要讲述了骨龄研究的相关知识。 24.细节理解题。根据“A bone age study helps doctors decide the growing speed of a child’s bones”可知,骨龄研究有助于医生确定儿童骨骼的生长速度,帮助解决孩子的成长问题。故选D。 25.细节理解题。根据“The child will also be asked to keep unmovable for several seconds while the X-ray is taken, which is important to make sure that X-ray image is clear.”可知,拍X光片时,一个孩子必须保持静止几秒钟。故选A。 26.主旨大意题。通读全文可知,本文主要讲述了骨龄研究的相关知识,因此文章的目的是一些提供骨龄研究的信息。故选A。 C The bell rang. I picked up my backpack and headed for Writing Club. “Today, we’ll share stories with critique partners,” said Miss Lisa. My partner, Penny, sat across from me. We shared our stories nervously. While I had no trouble coming up with ideas, I did have problems with spelling. And grammar. And punctuation. I read her story without stopping. It was about a homeless dog named Sunny who saved a family during a storm. Finally, the family welcomed Sunny. “Wow, excellent story! I really love it!” I said. “Yours too.” But she did not even look at me as she passed mine back. When the club ended, Penny jumped up and picked up her backpack. Everything fell out. I noticed a book named Sunny the Brave. The description matched Penny’s story exactly. She had copied it! I thought about telling Miss Lisa, but she had already left. Outside of the school, I found Penny on a bench. “You dropped this,” I held out the book. She looked up, tears in her eyes. Suddenly, I wasn’t angry any more. My job as her critique partner was to give helpful feedback, not make her feel bad. But what could I say? After getting home, I decided to ask mom what I should do. I found her in the kitchen making dinner with dad. Dad cut vegetables into perfect shapes. Mom mixed a sauce on the stove. “Aidan, you’re just in time,” Mom said and held out a spoonful of sauce. “Taste this.” “It’s good, but I think ...” “It needs something, right?” she said. “I agree.” “Here’s a measuring spoon,” Dad said, “so you can make sure to use the right amount.” “I have an idea!” Mom added a teaspoon of a new spice into the sauce. “Now what did you want to talk about?” I realized that Mom and Dad had different skills, making them a great creative team. With Dad’s attention to detail and Mom’s sense of adventure, their dinners became delicious. “I think you already helped me,” I told her. At school the next morning, I found Penny at her locker. “I thought I would love writing, but I’m terrible at it,” she said. “I never have a single idea.” “Well. I have ideas, but my sentences aren’t always the best. I wish I could write like you do.” “I’d rather have ideas than write perfect sentences.” “I had a new idea. I bet we could come up with something great! Let’s talk to Miss Lisa ...” 27.Which role should “critique partners” play in the writing club? A.Competing to see who does better. B.Avoiding giving advice to the other. C.Supporting each other to improve. D.Working on pointing out mistakes. 28.How did I feel after talking with Penny at the locker? A.Hopeful. B.Surprised. C.Peaceful. D.Ashamed. 29.What can we infer from the passage about Aidan and Penny? A.Aidan will be the big mouth to tell Miss Lisa. B.Neither of them will be in the soup about the task. C.Penny is the best word master in the class. D.Both of them regret having lied to Miss Lisa. 根据文章“My job as her critique partner was to give helpful feedback, not make her feel bad.”以及最后一段“I bet we could come up with something great! Let’s talk to Miss Lisa ...” 根据文章最后“I bet we could come up with something great! Let’s talk to Miss Lisa ...” 可知,作者和Penny在储物柜交谈后,作者觉得他们能一起创作出好作品,所以作者是充满希望的。故选A。 29.推理判断题。根据文章最后“I’d rather have ideas than write perfect sentences.”以及“I bet we could come up with something great! Let’s talk to Miss Lisa ...”可推断出,两人计划合作,因此不会因任务陷入困境。B项“他们俩都不会因为这项任务而陷入困境。”与原文相符。故选B。 D ①IT’S A TYPICAL morning: you wake up, take a shower, brush your teeth, and then prick (刺;扎) your arm with a tiny needle (针尖) . Wait, what ? Unless you have a serious disease such as diabetes (糖尿病), you probably haven’t ever tested your own blood. But in the future, that might change. ②The company Cor already sells a system for home blood testing. You stick your arm using a supposedly painless, one-off, blood-drawing cartridge (针筒) about the size of a lipstick. Then you stick the cartridge into a device (装置) that looks like the base for an electric toothbrush. A few minutes later, an app on your phone reminds you with updated information, including your present health data (数据) and tips on what to eat and how to exercise during the day. ③It’s true that blood covers a wealth of information about a person’s health. Blood tests can show if a person is infected (感染) with a disease or at risk for a series of problems, including a heart attack or a stroke (中风). But most people don’t test their own blood until a doctor says it’s time. Healthy young adults get regular (有规律的) blood tests about every five years. These tests happen at a lab, where a nurse sticks a long needle into the arm to draw out several tubes full of blood. Cor and similar companies, such as WellnessFX, are trying to change all that. They think people have chances of knowing more information about their own health. ④But not everyone is sure that regular blood testing for healthy people is a great idea. Cor’s system is expensive and may not offer many advantages. “The lightest result here is that you lose your money and then you’re reminded to get more sleep and to eat more fruits, vegetables, and fish,” Pieter Cohen of Harvard Medical School told the New York Times. “The worst result is that you end up getting frightened by probably abnormal (不正常的) results that are actually completely normal for you.” ⑤Moreover, the results of a home blood test might be wrong. It’s hard to get correct results from a tiny amount of blood. So what do you think? Is caring about your own health through pinpricks the way of the future? Or is it better to leave blood testing to medical professionals? 30.Why does the author mention the typical morning in the first paragraph? A.To explain a scene.B.To introduce the topic.C.To provide an example. D.To make a comparison. 31.What can we learn about the company Cor’s blood-testing system? A.It is painless and cheap to use. B.It has won popularity among people. C.It offers correct health information about our body. D.It may give advice on our diet according to the health data. 32.If we divide the passage into three parts, how will you deal with it? A.①; ②③④; ⑤B.①②③; ④; ⑤C.①; ②③; ④⑤ D.①②; ③④; ⑤ 33.Which of the following could be the best title for the text? A.Home blood tests: yes or no ? B.Should blood tests be allowed at home? C.A new system of improving your health. D.Home blood testing: your health monitor! 【答案】30.B 31.D 32.C 33.A 【导语】本文介绍了未来人们可能通过自己进行血液健康监测, 但这样的操作也受到了一些质疑。 30.推理判断题。根据第一段“IT’S A TYPICAL morning: you wake up, ...you probably haven’t ever tested your own blood. But in the future, that might change.”可知,第一段通过描述一个包含“刺手指测血”的早晨场景,引出后文关于未来家庭血液检测的讨论。目的是通过日常情景引入主题。故选B。 31.细节理解题。根据第二段“A few minutes later, an app on your phone reminds you with updated information, including your present health data (数据) and tips on what to eat and how to exercise during the day.” 根据第二段“The company Cor already sells a system for home blood testing.” 和最后一段“Moreover, the results of a home blood test might be wrong.”及全文可知,全文围绕家庭血液检测的利弊展开,既提到技术便利性,也分析潜在问题。A选项“家庭验血:肯定还是否定? ”符合文章标题。故选A。 第二部分 本部分共5题, 共20分。根据题目要求, 完成相应任务。 四、 阅读表达(共10分, 第1-3题每小题2分, 第4小题4分) Digital Citizenship Week Every third week in October, schools around the world celebrate Digital Citizenship Week (数字公民周), which focuses on the healthy and responsible use of online technology. This was originally created by Common Sense Education. It is the time for students to know about their digital footprints (足迹) and why they matter so that they can develop good digital citizenship. During the Week, the teachers always stress the importance of digital citizenship. It involves online safety, speaking up against cyberbullying (网络霸凌), protecting personal information, respecting copyright law and more. Good digital citizenship helps students understand the importance of balancing technology use with other non-digital activities. It also encourages students to connect with one another and create long-lasting relationships online. The key idea behind good digital citizenship is to treat other people, places, and things with respect. However, students might not understand what information is not safe to share on social media, how to properly check sources, and the possible results of having online communications. Helping students understand digital citizenship helps them to manage Internet risks and succeed in the digital world. Teachers need to think about how digital citizenship is taught and learned in the school. There are some useful resources and models on the Internet that can help teachers develop a digital citizenship framework and program. One of the important things of digital citizenship that students need to understand is their digital footprints. Every person who uses the Internet has a digital footprint. Because digital footprints can’t be erased, students’ digital footprints have the possibility to influence their whole life. Students’ digital footprints can also leave them easy to get social engineering attacks or cyberbullying. Since digital footprints may influence students’ online safety, some suggestions are necessary for them. For example, they need to clear cookies (网络浏览数据) from time to time They should also be careful about what they share with online service providers, and who they share their information with. The most important thing is that they should be responsible for what they post on social media. 34.When do the schools around the world celebrate Digital Citizenship Week? 35.What’s the key idea behind good digital citizenship? 36.Why do digital footprints have the possibility to influence one’s whole life? 37.Do you think it’s necessary to celebrate Digital Citizenship Week? A.Think of Plans B.Look for Answers C.Ask Questions D.Share Ideas B A bone age study helps doctors decide the growing speed of a child’s bones, which is done by taking an X-ray of the left wrist and hand—a safe and painless course that uses a small number of radiation (放射物). C The bell rang. D ①IT’S A TYPICAL morning: you wake up, take a shower, brush your teeth, and then prick (刺;扎) your arm with a tiny needle (针尖) . 第二部分 本部分共5题, 共20分。根据题目要求, 完成相应任务。 四、 阅读表达(共10分, 第1-3题每小题2分, 第4小题4分) Digital Citizenship Week Every third week in October, schools around the world celebrate Digital Citizenship Week (数字公民周), which focuses on the healthy and responsible use of online technology. Each boy took home his royal seed, held tightly in his hand. Over the next few days, Jun watered his pot every day. All over the country, boys were doing the same thing. Each one looked with 15 at his own pot. Chen was the first boy to announce that a green leaf was coming up. Han was the next one to say a little green plant was coming up in his pot. Then it was Wang. Jun did not know why there was empty in his pot. He had much experience in growing, none of the other boys could grow plants as 16 as he! But still, Jun’s seed did not grow. Six months passed. The day came when all the boys needed to bring their plants to the palace to be judged. “What will I do?” cried Jun to his mother and father as he looked out the window. “My pot is empty! My seed did not grow!” “Bring the King your pot, the way it is.” said his father. “That’s right.” said Jun’s mother. “You did the best you could.” Then Jun carried his empty pot on the road to the palace. At the palace, all the boys lined up. Holding their big, strong plants in front of them, they 17 to be judged. You brought me an empty pot?” It was all Jun could do to keep from crying. “I tried my best. I planted your seed in the best soil I could find. I kept it wet and watched it every day. When the seed did not 18 , I moved it to new soil, and I even moved it a third time. But it just didn’t   grow!” Jun hung his head. “I’m sorry.” “Hmm,” said the King. Turning so everyone could hear he shouted, “I do not know where all these other boys got their seeds. There is no 19 anything could grow from the seeds we passed out for the contest. And that is because all those seeds had been 20 ! No plant could grow from them!” So anyone who showed me his beautiful plant must be a liar. Only this man told me the truth. C The bell rang. D ①IT’S A TYPICAL morning: you wake up, take a shower, brush your teeth, and then prick (刺;扎) your arm with a tiny needle (针尖) . 第二部分 本部分共5题, 共20分。根据题目要求, 完成相应任务。 四、 阅读表达(共10分, 第1-3题每小题2分, 第4小题4分) Digital Citizenship Week Every third week in October, schools around the world celebrate Digital Citizenship Week (数字公民周), which focuses on the healthy and responsible use of online technology.
