The flowers are in bloom, the temperature is rising, and some children are going to enjoy a break from homework and tests. But for parents, spring break can be a struggle. What do you do with your children when you’re preoccupied with work? One option: Enrolling them in spring break camp. These day - or week-long programs are aimed to keep children active and enrich their bodies and minds. Here are some of our favorite spring break camp ideas for 2025. Museum Spring Break Camps From children’s centers and zoos to art galleries, museums offer countless camp options. For example, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the South State Museum and the Children’s Museum all offer camps for school-aged kids. The Central Park Zoo even boasts its own spring break camp. For more information about dates, rates, and availability, visit the website of your local museum, zoo, or learning center. Tech-Focused Spring Break Camps Whether you’ve got a Minecraft fan or a coding enthusiast, you can likely find tech spring break camps in your region. For example, iCAMP offers school holiday camps, both in-person and online, focused on teaching STEAM topics like robotics, graphic art, science,3D printing, and more. Check your local center for more information. Activity Hero Spring Break Camps No matter what they’ re interested in, Activity Hero has something for ages 8 — 10 with a friendly price tag. From guitar and musical theater to chess and game design, you’ll also find online spring break camps for March to mid-April with Activity Hero. Camp lengths vary. Spring Break Sports Camps If your kid is eager to get active after months of classroom lessons, consider the cost-efficient Sports Camp for kids aged 7 and under. Whether they prefer soccer, baseball, swimming, or gymnastics, you might find a program specializing in training during spring break. Contact your local sporting club for more information. 21. Which camp offers online learning courses? A. iCAMP. B. The Central Park Zoo Camp. C. Sports Camp. D. Metropolitan Museum of Art Camp. 22. What is a shared feature of Activity Hero and Sports Camp? A. Target age group. B. Budget friendliness. C. Flexible time length. D. Customized service. 23. Who are the target readers of the text? A. School-aged kids. B. Teachers. C. Camp organizers. D. Parents. B I used to believe that only words could catch the essence (本质) of the human soul. The literary works contained such distinct stories that they shaped the way we saw the world. Words were what composed the questions we sought to uncover and the answers to those questions themselves. Words were everything. That belief changed. In an ordinary math class, my teacher posed a simple question: What’s 0. 99 rounded to the nearest whole number? Easy. When rounded to the nearest whole number, 0. 99=1. Somehow, I thought even though 0. 99 is only 0. 01 away from 1, there’s still a 0. 01 difference. That means even if two things are only a little different, they are still different, so doesn’t that make them completely different? My teacher answered my question by presenting another equation (等式) : 1= 0. 9, which could also be expressed as 1=0. 99999… repeating itself without ever ending. There was something mysterious but attractive about the equation. The left side was unchangeable, objective: it contained a number that ended. On the right was something endless, number repeating itself limitless times. Yet, somehow, these two opposed things were connected by an equal sign. Lying in bed, I thought about how much the equation paralleled our existence. The left side of the equation represents that sometimes life itself is so unchangeable and so clear. The concrete, whole number of the day when you were born and the day when you would die. But then there is that gap in between life and death. The right side means a time and space full of limitless possibilities, and endless opportunities into the open future. So that’s what life is. Objective but imaginative. Unchangeable but limitless. Life is an equation with two sides that balances itself out. Still, we can’t ever truly seem to put the perfect words to it. So possibly numbers can express ideas as equally well as words can. For now, let’s leave it at that: 1= 0. 99999… and live a life like it. 24. What does the author emphasize about words in paragraph 1? A. Their wide variety. B. Their literary origins. C. Their different sounds. D. Their expressive power. 25. What made the author find the equation attractive? A. The repetition of a number. B. The difference between the two numbers. C. The question the teacher raised. D. The way two different numbers are equal. 26. Which of the following can replace the underlined word “paralleled” in paragraph 6? A. Measured. B. Mirrored. C. Composed. D. Influenced. 27 What is a suitable title for the text? A. The Perfect Equation. B. Numbers Build Equations. C. An Attractive Question. D. Words Outperform Numbers. C People, especially women, have begun to look at travel in a new way in recent years. Instead of waiting for their partners, family or friends to join them in heading out on a new adventure, many women these days are happily going it alone. An example is the private Facebook group Solo Female Travelers, which was started by Meg Jerrard and Mar Pages in 2015. Their plan back then was to “connect women who loved to travel solo”. At first, there were only a few hundred members. Today, nearly 350,000 members from across the globe are in the group. A photo-sharing site called Pinterest notes that in 2024, searches for “solo traveling” have increased by 145%, while a recent survey shows over 59% of travelers plan to travel solo in the coming year. Not only women, but men are also going it alone. And people of all ages are planning to leave literally everything and everyone behind, with some staying not too far from home and others circling the planet for new explorations. “We do an annual survey of our group, and more than 80% of the members agree that solo travel is a choice, and that the lack of a travel partner is not a key motivator. They want more freedom, and they hope to have a break from routines. Also, they explore the world on their own while relaxing and achieving personal growth,” Jerrard explained. Traditionally, cruise companies (邮轮公司) that take adventurers to faraway places always charge solo travelers who use a cabin (舱室) alone extra money, often resulting in the travelers paying nearly the same amount as two people sharing a cabin. But with so many people welcoming the idea of solo travel, that has been one of the first things to fall, as cruise companies rethink their rules. Other travel providers, such as package tour companies and hotels, have also recognized the movement, making unique and detailed changes to satisfy the expectations of solo travelers. While solo traveling isn’t quite perfect yet—think waiters who might ignore solo diners, safety matters, or assumptions from others that “solo travel” means “lonely travel”, this new type of travel has arrived and is here to stay. So, where are you going next on your own? 28 What conclusion can be drawn from the first two paragraphs? A. Most women used to enjoy traveling in groups. B. Social media plays an important role in tourism. C. Women are more creative than men when traveling. D. Traveling alone is becoming more and more popular. 29. What is the main reason for people who travel alone? A. The love for going off the beaten track. B. The need for developing independence. C. The efforts to find like-minded friends. D. The desire to have more personal space. 30. Why are travel providers mentioned in Paragraph 4? A. To indicate travel depends on different elements. B. To show they are meeting solo travelers’ demands. C To ask the tourism industry to improve its services. D. To point out the difficulties of welcoming solo travelers. 31. What is the author’s attitude towards traveling alone? A. Positive. B. Negative. C. Worried. D. Doubtful. D Many believe zoos provide a safe environment for animals, free from survival challenges. However, this isn’t the case for the largest land animals, elephants, which frequently experience health issues in captivity (监禁), including diseases, joint problems, and behavioral changes, often leading to having no babies. A groundbreaking study has analyzed four decades of data on 800 elephants from Africa and Asia living in European zoos. The research, conducted by a team of scientists, compared the lifespans of these zoo-born elephants with those of thousands of wild female elephants in Africa and Asian elephants working in logging camps over a similar period. To learn more about how captivity affects elephants, a team of international scientists compared the life spans of female elephants born in zoos with female elephants living outdoors in their native lands. Zoos keep detailed records of all the animals in their care, documenting factors such as birth dates, illnesses, weight and death. The findings were striking: female African elephants born in captivity had an average lifespan of 16.9 years, but their wild ones who died of natural causes lived to an average age of 56 years — more than three times longer. A similar trend was observed in Asian elephants, with zoo-born females living an average of 18.9 years compared to 41.7 years for those in logging camps. The reasons behind these differences are not yet fully understood. Georgia Mason, a biologist from the University of Guelph in Canada who led the study, suspects that stress and obesity may be significant factors. Elephants in zoos do not engage in the same level of physical activity as they would in the wild, leading to obesity in many cases. Additionally, the social structures of elephants in captivity differ greatly from those in the wild, where they typically live in large groups and family groups. Another revelation (启示) from the study was that Asian elephants born in zoos had a higher likelihood of dying early compared to those captured in the wild and brought to zoos. Mason assumes that stress experienced by mothers in captivity could result in children that are less adaptive and more likely to die early. The implications of this study are profound (深刻的), particularly concerning the acquisition of more elephants for zoo populations. While some endangered species in zoos manage to reproduce and maintain healthy numbers, elephants seem to be an exception. The study highlights the need for further research into the well-being of elephants in captivity and the potential challenges of sustaining their populations in zoos. 32. What is the main focus of the study mentioned in the passage? A. Elephant Lifespans: Captivity against Wild. B. Analyzing elephant social structures in zoos. C. Studying the effects of obesity on elephants. D. Investigating the causes of elephant stress. 33. Why might elephants in zoos have a shorter lifespan compared to wild elephants? A. They have more eaters in zoos. B. They face increased stress and obesity. C. They are fed better in zoos. D. They are less active in zoos. 34. What is the average lifespan of wild female African elephants? A. 16.9 years. B. 56 years. C. 18.9 years. D. 41.7 years. 35. What conclusion can be drawn about the future of elephants in zoos? A. Elephants should not be kept in zoos. B Zoos should focus on breeding more elephants. C. Zoos need to improve elephant care to increase lifespans. D. The study supports the inclusion of more elephants in zoos. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Flying kites is a wonderful way to enjoy a windy spring or summer afternoon. If you’re eager to take your kite to skies, here are some essential tips. Position yourself correctly. A pleasant kite journey starts with feeling the direction of the wind. This will help you stand with your back to the wind. Hold up your kite by the bridle (风筝提线) at about eye-level. ___36___ . Once the wind has caught the kite, it is a must to make sure the line is pulled tight enough to stay straight and firm, and then release the line properly. ___37___ . If you let the line out too fast, it will go loose and make the kite fall. Why not invite a friend to hold the kite for launch if the wind is light? You can let him or her hold the kite and walk downwind about 15 to 30 meters away from you. ___38___ . As the kite gains height, it is time to pull on the line hand over hand until it’s stable. Adjust the bridle according to wind conditions. If your kite sinks, it indicates there’s not enough wind. ___39___ . On the contrary, if your kite experiences a sharp drop toward the ground, move the bridle higher up the line. ___40___ . Keeping some tension on the line gives you more control and keeps the kite from crashing down to the ground. But if your kite starts to spin (旋转) during the falling process, it means the line is too tight. You should let out the line a little to make it looser. A. Land your kite safely B. Pull the lines to help the kite take off C. So lower the bridle a little down the line D. You’ll get a good feel for how to control your kite E. The success depends on the speed at which you do this F. Then you'd better keep it in this position until the wind catches it. G. A signal should be given to your partner to release it once the wind picks up 第三部分 语言运用(共三节,满分50分) 第一节(共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。 “Smooth sailing never made a skilled sailor.”—FDR When I think of the toughest moments of my life, many have turned out to be ____41____ in disguise. It’s not easy being in your situation, and it’s normal to have these feelings. Anyway, don’t be too hard on yourself. You know, basketball is about team effort. It’s never just one person’s fault.
