When you have nothing to say, you just press send or turn off your phone. There are no quiet moments between words. In real life, getting along with others takes time and energy. Sometimes neither person has anything to say. Silence can feel awkward. Difficult feelings can also come up. Sometimes things get painful. Misunderstandings happen, hard truths come out, and feelings get hurt. Now a new trend is appearing. When there is trouble or conflict in a relationship, we just leave instead of facing the problem. I hear about this more in my work and see it more in my own life. We come and go in each other’s lives very easily, as if relationships are no longer worth working for. I wonder if we are losing the ability to deal with the messy and uncomfortable parts of life. As a result, we have many relationships but few good ones. We have it easy, but we don’t have it real. When we have conflict with others, we deal with it because we want the relationship and care about it. Discomfort, awkwardness and challenges are a normal part of any relationship. We need to remind ourselves that we can go through the hard times and reach the other side, where the relationship can be fixed. In psychology, we call this “repair”. A relationship that goes through conflict together is actually stronger than one that never had conflict. We will never get anywhere deeply satisfying by avoiding challenges. Every moment we are willing to be uncomfortable in a relationship, and to live through the messiness, is like a drop of gold. Working through hard things is what makes a relationship worth having. Being willing to be uncomfortable and the value of the relationship are part of the same circle. 4. What can be inferred from the first two paragraphs? A. Technology has brought people closer.        B. True friends are not embarrassed by silence.  C. Online communication creates a lot of misunderstandings. D. Getting along with another person takes effort in real life.  5. What is the author’s attitude towards the trend mentioned in Paragraph 3? A. Negative.     B. Positive.     C. Reserved.       D. Unclear. 6. What does the author suggest people do? A. Step back and avoid conflict.         B. To deal with the conflict. C. Pay more attention to themselves.     D. Learn to identify unhealthy relationships. 7. What is the main purpose of the text? A. To describe a growing trend.              B. To stress the importance of handling conflict. C. To guide people into meaningful relationships. D. To show technology has changed how we talk to each other. C Clothing made from artificial materials, such as polyester (聚酯纤维), has many positive advantages. It is cheap to produce, lasts for a long time, and is comfortable to wear. However, the material has one major disadvantage. The tiny lint (纤维屑) from the material during each laundry cycle are big contributors to plastic pollution. Now, some scientists from Lithuania have found a way to recycle the waste into clean energy. The researchers began by collecting lint from dryers across KTU’s (Kaunas University of Technology) dormitories. They then used a technique called pyrolysis (高温分解) to transform the lint waste into useful energy. The process involves heating the lint without oxygen. This causes the microfibers to turn into burnable gases and ashes. The team, led by Dr. Samy Yousef, a senior researcher at KTU, published their findings in the journal Science of the Total Environment on March 25, 2021, showing that they were able to get three energy products — oil, gas, and charcoal — from the lint. More importantly, about 70 percent of the waste was turned into energy. Mathematical models done by the researchers indicate that 45 tons of microfibers — the amount generated by just one million people annually — could produce 13.8 tons of oil, 21.5 tons of gas, and 9.7 tons of charcoal, and result in an overall profit of about $12,0000. Dr. Yousef has even thought of a creative way to gather the household waste. The researcher says, “I believe that the collection system, similar to deposit-return for drink containers, could be developed based on our research. A household would bring the lintmicrofiber to a collection point and receive some kind of reward for it.” Though the technology is encouraging, it will take time to perfect and use on a large scale. While we cannot stop doing laundry, there are some easy ways to reduce our environmental impact. Washing those clothes less frequently, doing full loads, and line drying them all help reduce the pollution. 8. What does the underlined word “This” in Paragraph 2 refer to? A. The lint. B. Oxygen. C. The process. D. Energy. 9. Why does the writer provide so many data in Paragraph 3? A. To urge immediate use of their findings. B. To show the potential of the technology. C. To prove the seriousness of lint waste. D. To present the flexibility of pyrolysis. 10. Why are “deposit-return for drink containers” mentioned in the passage? A. To explain a rule. B. To make a conclusion. C. To make a prediction. D. To clarify an approach. 11. What might be the best title for the passage? A. Eco-friendly Technology Transforms Lint into Energy. B. Scientists Have Reduced Plastic Pollution Sharply. C. Creative Ways to Produce Energy Need Perfection. D. Researchers Made New Discoveries about Lint. D When Stanford University student Ellen Xu, now 18, was a five-year-old in San Diego, California, she clearly remembers that her parents rushed her little sister to the hospital. Three-year-old Kate had fallen seriously ill; she had a fever, reddened eyes, and some swelling (肿胀) in her hands and tongue. At first, the puzzled doctors thought she had flu, but when her condition didn’t improve, the Xus returned to the clinic room, where a doctor by chance had a similar earlier experience with such symptoms (症状) in the blood known as Kawasaki disease. Though rare (罕见的), it’s the leading cause of the heart disease in babies and young children, and its causes remain unknown. The doctor knew how to treat it: He ordered some medicine for Kate, and finally she shook off-the illness without suffering damage to her heart. Xu remembers being curious about her sister’s illness condition and was amazed that the grown-ups couldn’t answer her questions about why it was so hard to check. “In my mind, it was this puzzle I wanted to solve,” she says. Ten years later, wanting to enter a high school science fair, she had an idea. What if we had a doctor in our pocket? So she created just that: Using Al, Xu designed a program that uses visual facts to check the disease based on five physical symptoms. The technology works the same way as apps that can identify birds and plants with photos you’ve taken on your cellphone. Worried parents can upload a photo that they have taken of their child, and the technology will scan the picture for symptoms of the disease, which often have strong visual factors, such as a swollen longue. Xu’s invention has been applied as a web app on the website. “The technology could also be developed for recognizing some other diseases,” she says. “It means a lot to me. I want to use AI to help people live happier and healthier lives.” Xu says that her sister Kale, now in her third year of high school with dreams of becoming an environmental engineer, is strong and healthy. 12. Why did the author mention Kate’s illness? A. To explain who treated Kate’s illness. B. To prove how serious Kale’s illness was. C. To show how much Ellen loved her sister. D. To tell why Ellen wanted to solve the puzzle in her mind. 13. Why did Ellen design the program? A. To save her sister. B. To earn a prize. C. To check a rare disease. D. To identify birds and plants. 14. What can best describe Ellen according to the text? A. Determined and careful. B. Creative and helpful. C. Diligent and selfless. D. Active and easy-going. 15. What is the best title for the text? A. An App That Detects a Rare Disease B. An Invention Helping Doctors C. A Girl Recovering from a Disease D. A New Method to Treat a Disease Should Robotics Be Taught in Schools? It had been a while since the kids last saw their aunt. Mary stopped at the store to get some sandwiches for supper. After getting the sandwiches, she took a way which was different from her normal route because it was closer. While she was driving 55 miles per hour, a driver stopping at a gas station decided to pull out in front of her. Mary never had a chance to stop. Somewhere between 5~10 miles per hour, they collided (碰撞). As soon as she knew they were going to collide, she closed her eyes. Glimpses of her life passed before her eyes. Mary’s body was so sore. When she tried to open the door, she couldn’t. She tried to call 911, but she couldn’t get her phone turned on. No timely assistance at all. To make matters worse, her foot was stuck under the gas pedal. She was thankful that the kids were crying in the back but they were in good condition. Looking at the front of the car, she found it smoking. She thought, “Oh, great, it’s going to blow up. I’m going to die today.” Luckily, a man came over to her and asked her if she was all right. Mary said, “No, my car door and my left foot are stuck. I can’t get out.” The man tried to call 911 for her. He then shut her car off. He went around to the other side to free her left foot. To get her foot out, he had to take her shoe off. He then told her, “This could hurt.” He wasn’t kidding. He had to twist her foot in such an awkward position to get it out. After getting it out, he thought, “What’s taking the emergency crew so long?” Watching the car smoke, he decided that he couldn’t afford to wait for them. He pulled her out through the passenger side to the side of the road. Paragraph 1: Mary was taken out of the car. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: The man explained why he was there. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 呼市十二中2026-2027第一学期高二英语期中考试卷 考试时间:120分钟   满分:150分 注意事项: 1. 1. Today, many people mainly use instant messaging. D 5. A 6. B 7. 8. C 9. B 10. D 11. 12. 此处为固定搭配turn to sb. for help,意为“向某人求助”,所以此处为介词to。 “one of the+可数名词复数”表示“…… 某英文报要举办以“The Internet Has Changed Our Lives”为题目的征文比赛,请你写一篇短文参赛。 __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 The Internet Has Changed Our Lives It seems that the Internet has completely changed our lives. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 Paragraph 1: Mary was taken out of the car. She sat on the soft grass beside the road, trembling slightly and holding her painful foot. The man quickly checked the kids and comforted them gently to calm their crying. Soon, the sound of an ambulance came from a distance. The medical workers rushed over and gave Mary and the children simple first aid. They praised the man for his quick and wise action, which kept them away from the danger of the burning car. Paragraph 2: The man explained why he was there. He was just heading home after finishing his volunteer work at the local fire station. He had noticed the smoke from the car from far away and hurried over without hesitation. Mary was deeply moved and thanked him repeatedly. Before the ambulance left, she promised to find him later to express her sincere gratitude.
