While it’s free to use, some job postings may be outdated, which can be frustrating. Also, the user interface could be more visually appealing and flexible to enhance the overall experience.
Wellfound
Wellfound is another job search platform that’s particularly useful for finding tech jobs. While it provides access to numerous listings and valuable company insights, its search functionality could be improved for better precision. Compared with the other sites, its database is relatively small and focused mainly on positions in startups.

A 15m sperm whale (抹香鲸) beached itself in shallow (浅的) waters over the weekend because of ill health. Beachgoers were excited about the giant whale swimming so close to the shore, with many filming the experience as swimmers went right up to it to take a closer look. One person said the whale looked “happy” as it came close to the shore before moving back to deeper water. While local swimmers were excited to see the whale, they risked their own safety and could have made the whale feel upset and anxious by swimming so close to it.
“I think it’s protecting itself from any hunters, positioning itself in a way that we might expect in an animal who’s not well and needs to rest,” said Mark Cugley, who studies whales. “It became grounded on shallow sandbars, and it would swim off again. Then it would get grounded again. That’s why we need to fully assess (评估) its health.” Mr. Cugley said experts had examined the whale and it appeared to be unwell.
Sperm whales usually live far offshore and hardly ever come into shallow water. Lone whales often beach themselves when they are sick, injured or old and are looking for shallow waters to rest, according to whales. org. But without deep water to support their weight, whales can become badly injured inside their bodies and could die at sea if humans attempted to rescue them by moving them back into deeper waters.
Authorities were deciding on the best way to kill the animal humanely in the coming days, if need be, in line with requirements of the International Whaling Convention. In the meantime, authorities would continue to pour water on the whale to keep it wet and comfortable and stop it getting hurt from the summer sun.
24.Why did the sperm whale swim to shallow waters?
A.It was in bad health. B.It was attacked by swimmers.
C.It was busy hunting. D.It was frightened by beachgoers.
25.What does the author think of local swimmers’ action?
A.It is interesting. B.It is safe. C.It is meaningful. D.It is risky.
26.How did Cugley probably feel about the sperm whale?
A.Uncaring. B.Concerned. C.Helpless. D.Surprised.
27.What can we know about beached whales from paragraph 3?
A.They want to build a better home. B.They run into trouble due to humans.
C.Their lives will be put in danger. D.Their bodies can support their weight.
【答案】24.A 25.D 26.B 27.C
【导语】本文是新闻报道。报道了一头1500米长的抹香鲸因健康状况不佳而搁浅在浅水区。

25.细节理解题。根据第一段的句子“While local swimmers were excited to see the whale, they risked their own safety and could have made the whale feel upset and anxious by swimming so close to it.(虽然当地的游泳者很高兴看到鲸鱼,但他们冒着自己的安全风险,游得如此之近,可能会让鲸鱼感到不安和焦虑。)”可知,作者认为当地人游近去看搁浅的抹香鲸存在很大风险。故选D。
26.推理判断题。根据第二段““I think it’s protecting itself from any hunters, positioning itself in a way that we might expect in an animal who’s not well and needs to rest,” said Mark Cugley, who studies whales. “It became grounded on shallow sandbars, and it would swim off again. Then it would get grounded again. That’s why we need to fully assess (评估) its health.” Mr. Cugley said experts had examined the whale and it appeared to be unwell.(研究鲸鱼的马克·库格利(Mark Cugley)说:“我认为它是在保护自己不受任何猎人的伤害,以一种我们可能会想到的方式,把自己定位在一只身体不好、需要休息的动物身上。”“它搁浅在浅沙洲上,然后又会游开。然后它会再次搁浅。因此,我们需要全面评估它的健康状况。”库格利说,专家对这头鲸鱼进行了检查,它似乎身体不适。)”可推断,Mark Cugley对这头搁浅的抹香鲸感到很担忧。故选B。
27.细节理解题。根据第三段的“But without deep water to support their weight, whales can become badly injured inside their bodies and could die at sea if humans attempted to rescue them by moving them back into deeper waters.(但是,如果没有深水来支撑它们的体重,鲸鱼体内可能会受到严重伤害,如果人类试图通过将它们移回更深的水域来拯救它们,它们可能会死在海里。)”可知,搁浅的鲸鱼会有生命危险。故选C。

Ecologists Dr. Matt Holden, Dr. Andrew Rogers and Dr. Russell Yong observed their share house and its backyard in 2020, and discovered 1,150 unique species of animals and plants over a 12-month period.
“We asked a large number of ecologists and conservation scientists how many species they’d expect to find in this setting and they said it could be only 200,”Dr. Holden said. “But after 60 days of surveying, we’d already discovered 777 species. It shows suburban (郊区的) houses and apartments could have far more biodiversity (生物多样性) than ever imagined, especially when it comes to insects.”
The idea of the species count was born when Dr. Rogers went to clean spider’s webs (蜘蛛网) in his room and wondered how many spiders were in the house. “The three of us soon worked out a plan to check the house and backyard in search of other insects that lived alongside us,” Dr. Holden said.
The survey showed richly biodiverse creatures, including 436 moth and butterfly species, 56 different spiders, and 56 birds. The researchers were also surprised to discover three species not previously recorded in Australia’s leading biodiversity database. “The house was a rich ecosystem of species interacting—we discovered unexpectedly a kind of moth, which spends its whole time feeding inside the waste of other animals before turning into an adult,” Dr. Holden said.
Homes across all suburban areas could play host to similar biodiversity. “It depends on how people tend to their homes and gardens—keeping low maintenance trees and flowers and preventing chemicals used for killing insects will lead to the rising number of living creatures,” Dr. Holden said. “You don’t have to go travelling to connect with Australia’s different species of creatures. Just look in your own backyard.”
28.How many species did the three housemates discover in 12 months?
A.200. B.436. C.700. D.1,150.
29.What made Dr. Rogers get the idea of the species count?
A.Cleaning his room. B.Observing the spiders.
C.A talk with his friend. D.A mass of dead insects.
30.Which statement will Dr. Holden probably agree with?
A.Australia has seen a jump in living creatures. B.Suburban backyards are home to diverse species.
C.Wildlife tourism threatens animals and plants. D.People should keep their gardens free of insects.
31.Where is this text most likely from?
A.A children’s story. B.A museum guide.
C.A science magazine. D.A health report.
【答案】28.D 29.A 30.B 31.C

The Model T, created by Henry Ford, changed the way Americans live, work and travel. On October 1, 1908, the Ford Motor Company introduced the Model T. The car came only in black. But at $850, it cost about half as much as other cars on the market. Henry Ford’s great improvement in an automobile assembly line (汽车装配线) made the Model T the first car to be affordable for most Americans. For the first time car ownership became a reality for normal American workers, not just the wealthy.
Assembly-line production allowed the price of the touring car to be lowered from $850 in 1908 to less than $300 in 1925. At that time half of all the cars in the United States were Model Ts. Even before it lost favour to larger and more powerful cars, the Model T, known as the “Tin Lizzie,” had become an American symbol, basically realizing Ford’s goal to “democratize the automobile.”
Henry Ford founded the Ford Motor Company in 1903. At first, Ford built only a few cars a day. Because demand (需求) for Model Ts was so high, Ford developed a way to make more of them without increasing cost. In 1913, he invented a moving assembly line. Workers stood in front of a conveyor belt (传送带), and each completed one step in putting the cars together.
Ford’s method of mass production changed life in the U.S. More people could travel. Highways grew. The Ford Motor Company stopped making the Model T in 1927. But the automotive lifestyle had taken hold of America. Today, the race is on to make cars more efficient and to find green energy to power them. Will inventors with Ford’s creativity bring the next revolution?
32.What made the Model T affordable for common American people?
A.Its old style.
B.Its small engine.
C.Comparatively cheap car labor.
D.A more developed method of production.
33.What can we learn about the Model T?
A.It had many different colors. B.It was mostly owned by the wealthy.
C.It became cheaper from 1908 to 1925. D.It was the first car built by Americans.
34.What does the underlined word “democratize” in Paragraph 2 mean?
A.Popularize. B.Develop. C.Change. D.Sell.
35.What is the author’s attitude to the Model T?
A.He doubts it. B.He thinks highly of it.
C.He feels it needs changes. D.He has mixed feelings about it.
【答案】32.D 33.C 34.A 35.B
【分析】本文是一篇说明文,介绍了二十世纪早期,福特公司大规模生产T型车,这改变了美国人的生活。
32.细节理解题。根据第一段“Henry Ford’s great improvement in an automobile assembly line (汽车装配线) made the Model T the first car to be affordable for most Americans.”(亨利·福特在汽车装配线上的巨大改进使T型车成为大多数美国人负担得起的第一辆车)可知,一种更先进的生产方法使得普通美国民众负担得起自己的第一辆车,故选D。
33.细节理解题。根据第二段“Assembly-line production allowed the price of the touring car to be lowered from $850 in 1908 to less than $300 in 1925. At that time half of all the cars in the United States were Model Ts.”(流水线生产使房车的价格从1908年的850美元降至1925年的不足300美元。当时,美国一半的汽车是T型车)可知,1908年到1925年间,T型车的价格变低了,故选C。
34.词义猜测题。根据画线词前的“Assembly-line production allowed the price of the touring car to be lowered from $850 in 1908 to less than $300 in 1925. At that time half of all the cars in the United States were Model Ts. Even before it lost favour to larger and more powerful cars, the Model T, known as the ‘Tin Lizzie’, had become an American symbol”(流水线生产使房车的价格从1908年的850美元降至1925年的不足300美元。
根据最后一段“Ford’s method of mass production changed life in the U.S. More people could travel. Highways grew.”(福特的大规模生产方式改变了美国的生活。更多的人可以旅行。公路里程增长了)可知,作者对福特的T型车评价很高,故选B。

Are you aware that you use body language when communicating with others? What body postures, gestures, facial expressions, and eye movements do you usually use? Research has suggested that about 65% of meaning in human communication comes from non-verbal behavior. 36 . Here are some body language tips to build more open connections with others.
Smile. The simplest way to start a positive relationship is to smile. When looking into someone’s eyes, smile as if you see something in their eyes that makes you happy. 37
Personal space. Keep the space open before your upper body. Try not to fold your arms, put your bag on your lap, hug your bag, or do anything that covers up the upper front part of your body. 38 . On the other hand, closing the space in front of you sends the message of “Don’t talk to me. I’m not interested to engage with anyone”.
Have eye contact. Eye contact helps establish connections and lets other people know you are listening. 39 . Just look away from time to time to give them some space.
40 . Wear your emotions on your face. If you feel sad, then express sadness. If you feel surprised, express surprise. If you feel happy, express happiness. Don’t keep your emotions inside yourself.
A powerful gesture will show your charm, which will make you more confident. These tips will help you make more friends and work towards a more connective and inclusive society.
A.But don’t stare
B.But don’t laugh out loud
C.Be open with your emotions
D.Be aware of what your body is saying
E.Keeping the area open will make you more approachable
F.Sometimes body language even makes up as much as 90%
G.Body language sometimes carries hidden meanings and emotions

It is hard not to thirst for victory in all your efforts when the world seems so competitive, especially if you’re a boy growing up with those values. A boy grew up in a similar environment where winning was all that was valued, and he longed to succeed. The boy was good at running, so he called everyone in the nearby villages for a race. A large group of people from around came to see this exciting event!
The boy had been training hard for this race. He ran among the strongest boys from around the villages, and it looked like heat on a finish line, but the young boy came out victorious! The crowd went wild with joy as they cheerfully waved (挥舞) flags praising him. The boy loved the attention. It made him feel happy and vital (生气勃勃的).
But among the crowd was a wise older man who did not seem as impressed with the boy’s fleets (舰队) as the rest. Just as the boy thought all the races for the day were over, the old man shouted from the crowd, “There is one more race left, the most important one.” The boy was firstly surprised by the additional race, but he was confident he could win any race.
The old man brought two new competitors for the boy, a blind man and a weak old lady. “I can easily win them,” the boy said. When the boy crossed the finish line, the blind man was still at the start, and the old lady had just started to move. The boy got his victory but he noticed that the crowd wasn’t cheering. The boy was shocked. So, he asked the old man what had happened. The old man said, “Let’s start the race again, but all three of you finish together this time.”

【答案】范文
The boy raced again. But he helped and guided the blind man, supported the old lady, and walked along with her this time. Finally, all three crossed the finish line together. The crowd cheered and clapped, which may have been louder than earlier. The boy was confused. So, he asked the old man, “Who is the winner of this race? Who is the crowd cheering for?”
The wise old man put his hands around the boy’s shoulders. He answered, “Boy, you have won much more in this race than any other race you have ever run, and in this race, the crowd is not cheering for any winners but for your great teamwork.” The little boy felt proud and important. Lost in deep thought for a while, the boy thanked the wise old man for making him realize the real meaning of success. From then on, he could be regarded as a truly successful athlete.

A.Australia has seen a jump in living creatures. B.Suburban backyards are home to diverse species.
C.Wildlife tourism threatens animals and plants. D.People should keep their gardens free of insects.

A.A children’s story. B.A museum guide.

Have you ever felt nervous while doing something for the very first time? If you got dropped off in a new environment with a bunch of strangers, what would you do? It can be extremely difficult, and even frightening at times, to try something 41 .
Recently, a popular Chinese vlogger posted videos teaching people how to take the metro and bus in cities. The first reaction of many netizens was 42 . After all, who doesn’t know how to use public transportation? But soon, many others thanked the creator for her thoughtful and 43 videos because she showed people a simple-to-follow set of 44 on what to do. Many had 45 to realize lots of people in China don’t live in large cities. What we may 46 as common knowledge may very well be 47 and confusing to others. Videos like these, which help people to 48 the life skills they may not have, may 49 them a lot of awkwardness.
I remember going to college in America for the first time. When younger, I had already learned many 50 skills, like cooking simple meals. The 51 was different with many of my roommates. They didn’t have these skills I consider very basic. And I didn’t know how to use the dishwasher 52 to almost every American. What my roommates and I did was help each other out by 53 our knowledge about how to do one thing or another.
It is not 54 for a farmer to learn how to ride the metro, just as it is unnecessary for a city person to learn how to raise chickens. But we can learn how to do both-—thanks to the people willing to keep a(n) 55 mind about other people and give a helping hand as well.

第二节:(10个小题;每小题1.5分,满分15分)
Advertising 56 (refer) to the activity of promoting a product or service. It has become part of our modern life.
Advertising has always been closely linked with the mass media. In addition to making people aware of a product or service, a successful advertisement can also create a desire to buy, thus 57 (boost) business. That is 58 when a company wants to promote a product or service, it often launches a mass media advertising campaign.
Based on the psychology behind creating a desire to buy, advertisers have developed ways of persuading people into purchasing their 59 (product) or services. A common technique to make an impact is to create 60 memorable slogan, which uses simple but impressive language to make people remember the product or service. Another technique advertisers often employ is 61 (link) their company or product to a “brand ambassador”. Moreover, some advertisements such as product placement 62 (be) not so obvious. We absorb the marketing messages without thinking about them too much, yet they 63 (probable) have an effect on us the next time we go shopping.
In the future, advertising will be more about understanding individual customers and sending them advertisements that are tailored 64 specific needs. Not only will this make them feel 65 (valued), but it will also help companies target their customers more efficiently.

第一节:(共15小题;每小题 1分,满分15分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给的 A、B、C 和 D 四个选项中,选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。
