A famous doctor 3 that one reason why paper cuts hurt so much is that the cut always happens on the finger where there are many nerve endings(神经末梢). They will tell the 4 about things that cause a cut in the skin. Another 5 why paper cuts hurt so much is that we're using our hands all day. That means that the small wound is always getting 6 . It's hard not to use our hands, so our hands are always working without a chance for the wound to get well. The paper itself is also an 7 reason why these cuts leave us in so much pain. The paper might look soft, but if you study it carefully, you'll 8 that the edge(边缘) is sharp. It cuts us pretty quickly before we have the chance to realize it. Most people grow and sell their own fruit and vegetables. Keeping them fresh in the hot place is a real challenge. Without a fridge, most fresh food goes bad in a couple of days. Throwing away the food means losing money for poor families. Eating the bad food causes serious health problems. Local teacher Mohammed Bah Abba was worried about this problem and decided to solve it. As a boy born into a family of clay pot(陶罐) makers, Mohammed knew that these traditional clay pots could keep water even when dry. In the 1990s, he used this traditional knowledge and his understanding of science to invent a cooling system. It worked as a “desert fridge”. Mohammed's cooling system is made up of two pots — a small pot inside a larger pot. In the space between the two clay pots, there is wet sand. People put the fruit and vegetables in the smaller pot, and cover it with a wet cloth. Then they leave the larger pot in a dry and cool place. When water from the sand evaporates(蒸发), it causes the temperature in the pots to go down. This way the food in the smaller pot is cool. With the potinpot cooling system, food stays fresh much longer. Mohammed's “desert fridge” has improved the lives of thousands of people. So in 2001, he won the Rolex Award for Enterprise, which is for the people who try to make the world a better place. 1.The underlined part “this problem” in Paragraph 2 refers to the fact that in Nigeria. And the sea environment is seriously polluted.Traditional methods of cleaning sea rubbish have high costs, and may hurt fish. These problems can be successfully solved by a sea rubbish cleaning robot. It is called Sea Sweeper 1000 and looks like a lanternfish from the outside. A little inventor named Lainey and an expert cardboard artist named Lottie Smith invented the robot fish together. Inside, it has two “stomachs”, which are used to store, recycle and burn rubbish. The left stomach will be used to burn down rubbish and create energy for the robot to keep running. And the things left after burning will be divided into small parts, and then placed into the bags on the robot's back rather than thrown into the sea. And the right stomach can store rubbish that can be recycled. When it gets full, rubbish will be placed in the bag on the robot's tail. Once the bag is full, the robot will come back. The lantern above its head has a sensor(传感器) and a camera. The sensor is used to avoid taking in fish. But if the robot fish does take in small fish, don't worry, because the space between its teeth is big enough for them to swim out. The camera will send back photos to its user when there is rubbish, which allows the user to make sure if the rubbish needs to be recycled or burned. Although there are still some parts that need to be improved, with the robot's help, we can protect the sea environment and create a better future for human beings.
