About thirty years ago, China was known as the “Bicycle Kingdom”. But the two-wheeled way of transport began to become less and less popular, and many bikes were soon replaced by their fuel-powered cars.
But recent years people have seen a revival (复兴) of the bikes across China, with an increasing number of people choosing cycling instead of driving to schools, to workplaces or to do sightseeing. More and more start-ups like ofo and Mobike begin to introduce the shared bikes and encourage people to ride them. People can unlock the shared bikes by simply using their smartphones. The bikes are equipped with GPS and can be left anywhere in public places for the next user.
“In places where the subway doesn’t extend, where it’s difficult to change from one kind of transport to another, it’s so easy to get where you want to go with Mobike,” Hu Hong, 29, told the reporter. She rides a bike to her company every year.

Governments around the world are pushing for an end to plastic straws (吸管) and bags. More and more businesses are changing to paper products. Using paper is considered to be better than plastic. However, it is harmful to the environment, too.
Firstly, paper bags and straws are made from trees. Trees, as you know, are good for the environment. They can slow down climate (气候) change. An increase in the use of paper bags need to cut down more trees.
Secondly, the production of paper things requires more energy and water. About 10 percent more energy and four times as much water is used to produce a paper bag than a plastic one. You might say that we can use recycled paper to save that energy and water. This seems to be a good idea. However, it takes even more energy and water to go through the recycling process than to make a new paper bag. Products made from recycled paper are also often short-lived.
Furthermore, paper products are heavier than plastic ones. That means they require more fuel (燃料) to transport. Seven trucks are needed to transport two million paper bags, while only one truck is needed to transport the same number of plastic bags. The increased weight also leads to a larger amount of waste once the bags are thrown away.
Paper products are actually a lose-lose for both the environment and businesses. They are more expensive than plastic products. A paper straw costs about 5 to 12 cents, while a plastic one usually costs only about 2 cents.
The most environment-friendly way is to avoid single-use things altogether. Products like glass water bottles and steel straws can be used over and over again. They are much better than either paper products or plastic products. By increasing the use of these items you can greatly reduce your throwaway waste and truly make our earth a greener place!
31. What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph I refer to?
A. Using plastic straws. B. Using plastic bags.
C. Using paper products. D. Using single-use things.
32. What does the writer think of the recycled paper?

A. It is believed that paper products are better than plastic products.
B. Avoiding single-use things is the most useful for environmental protection.
C. The transportation of plastic products costs more than that of paper products.
D. The production of paper bags and straws will cut down a large number of trees.
34. Which of the following shows the structure of the passage?
A. B. C. D.

From shipping to oil drilling (石油钻探), sounds from human activities spread across the oceans. This noise causes much trouble to ocean animals. However, according to a new study, climate change might influence how sound travels through the water.
Human-caused climate change influences the ocean in many ways, such as changing its temperature, salt levels, and acidity (酸度). When the water becomes more acidic, it also can’t absorb (吸收) certain sounds. So those sounds travel further, adding to the noise in some areas. However, this influence is not as big as other changes. Changes like temperature and salt level can influence how the ocean’s different layers (层) mix. That, in turn, influences how sound travels.
“We were surprised to see that actually there was a big change in the North Atlantic,” says Luca Possenti, who studies sound in the ocean at the Royal Netherlands Institute. Scientists used computer models to study future ocean noise. They compared today’s oceans to predictions for 70 years later if climate change continues. In the North Atlantic, they found louder noises in the top 125 meters of water.
This was caused mostly by ice melting (融化) from Greenland, forming a cold layer of water near the ocean’s surface. When sound travels through water, it turns toward the coldest area. This made sound waves get stuck (被困住) in the cold top layer and spread further out across the water instead of traveling deeper. As a result, the sound became louder at this specific depth in the North Atlantic.
Rising noise levels in the Atlantic Ocean are worrying because they could stress animals that depend on sound to communicate, hunt, and navigate. Marine mammals (海洋哺乳动物) like whales already stay away from noisy harbors, but if noise keeps rising everywhere, it’s unclear how they’ll deal with. This could harm the balance of ocean life, making survival (生存) harder for many species. Fish and other sea animals also use sound to find mates or stay safe from enemies. More noise might make their numbers drop. Scientists warn that we need to act now—cutting underwater noise and fighting climate change—to protect ocean animals and their homes.
36. What may influence the way sound travels in water according to the new study?
A. Shipping. B. Human activities. C. Oil drilling. D. Climate change.
37. Which of the following does not influence the ocean?
A. Wind speed. B. Ocean acidity. C. Salt levels. D. Ocean temperature.
38. How do scientists predict future ocean noise levels?
A. By counting the number of ocean animals nowadays.
B. Using computer models comparing present and future.
C. Through underwater microphones in harbors.
D. By studying historical climate data only.
39. What might happen if ocean noise continues to increase everywhere?
A. Fish will develop better hearing abilities. B. Marine animals may fight for survival.
C. Sound waves will travel deeper into the ocean. D. Climate change will slow down naturally.
40. Which of the following would be the best title?
A. Why Ocean Animals Avoid Noisy Harbors
B. How Climate Change Influences Ocean Noise and Marine Life

Ⅲ. 阅读理解七选五
You’ve been learning words since you were a tiny baby. At first, you learned them only by hearing other people talk. Now that you’re a reader, you have another way to learn words. What should you do when you come to a word and you think you don’t know what it means? ___41___
Say it
First, sound it out. Then say it to yourself. ___42___ Sometimes you know a word in your head but you don’t know what it looks like in print. So if you match up what you know and what you read—you have the word!
Use context
If this doesn’t work, take the next step:look at the context—the other words and sentences around it. Read this sentence:When it rained, the dog looked for shelter in the doorway. ____43____ Rain and in the doorway might give you helpful information.
___44___
If the context doesn’t help, look at the parts of the word. Does it have any parts you know? These can help you understand what it means. If you don’t know the meaning of miner, try looking at parts of the word. You might know that a mine is a place underground where people get coal and other valuable things. A lot of times, —or at the end of a word means “a person who does something”. So a miner might be someone who works in a mine.
Look it up
If the three steps above don’t work, you can look it up. ___45___ —either a book or online.
Nobody knows the meaning of every word, but good readers know how to understand words they don't know.
A. Use word parts.
B. Look at the words.
C. It might sound like a word you know.
D. You can find the word in a dictionary.

However, the bicycle sharing has also brought some problems such as illegal parking, vandalism (故意破坏) and stealing. To solve these problems, our government should take some strict measures and pass some laws. Then the shared bikes can serve us better.

By increasing the use of these items, you can greatly reduce your throwaway waste and truly make our earth a greener place!
31. What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph I refer to?
A. Using plastic straws. B. Using plastic bags.
C. Using paper products. D. Using single-use things.
32. What does the writer think of the recycled paper?
A. It saves energy and water. B. It seems not to be a good idea.
C. It is better than single-use paper. D. It’s easy to make by recycling process.
33. Which of the following is NOT true?
A. B. C. D.
35. What is the writer’s main purpose of writing this passage?
A. To introduce the disadvantages of paper products.
B. To compare paper products with plastic products.
C. To explain why paper products are bad for the environment.
D. To call on people to use products in an environment-friendly way.

C Sound waves will travel deeper into the ocean. D. Climate change will slow down naturally.
40. Which of the following would be the best title?
A. Why Ocean Animals Avoid Noisy Harbors
B. How Climate Change Influences Ocean Noise and Marine Life
C. The Dangers of Acidic Water in the Atlantic
D. Melting Ice and Its Impact on Whales’

A lot of times, —or at the end of a word means “a person who does something”. So a miner might be someone who works in a mine.
Look it up
