Hi all, I have the chance to live in a village, near big forests. In the summer, when the weather is good, it’s always a pleasure to pick up mushrooms. They are tasty, and less expensive than the ones you can buy in stores. In this program, we will introduce some cautions for a nice mushroom picking session. First, you will need a basket to put the mushrooms. Don’t use a plastic bag, as you will break tender mushrooms. Next, if you plan to go in an unknown place, I really advise taking a mobile phone and some water. Also, try to not be alone. You don’t want to be lost alone in the woods, right? Then, if you are like me a “trained” mushroom hunter, you should already know the good spots. It’s always good to choose a nice forest, with a good tree cover. I don’t have the magical way to find a good place, just ask local people. Once you are in the forest, the mushrooms are typically into wet and darker spots. If you are lucky, you may find nice mushrooms! When picking, make sure you know the kind of mushrooms. In my case, I only take those with a very recognizable shape. Avoid brightly colored ones. Remember, don’t pull them, but cut them with a knife. You will leave the internal roots in the floor. It will allow the mushroom to grow up again. Leave those with smaller caps in place. Think about the other people, take only what you need.

根据第一段中“The song As You Wish resonated (回荡) in front of the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests at the Temple of Heaven. However, passersby were surprised to find that the performers of this Chinese song were a children’s choir from the US called One Voice Children’s Choir. Students who are able to understand and manage their emotions more effectively, a skill known as emotional intelligence, do better at school than their less skilled classmates, according to recent research.
Carolyn MacCann of Sydney University, author of the study, analyzed (分析) data from over 160 studies, including over 42,000 students from 27 countries. “Although we know that high intelligence and a conscientious nature are necessary for academic success, our research highlights a third factor, emotional intelligence,” said MacCann. “Simply being smart and putting in a lot of effort may not be enough. Students must also be able to understand and manage their emotions.”
MacCann suggests that students with higher emotional intelligence may be better able to manage anxiety, boredom, disappointment, and other emotions that can damage academic performance. “Also, these students may be better able to manage the social world around them, forming better relationships with teachers, classmates, and family,” she said.
Additionally, the skills required for emotional intelligence may be the same with the skills required to master certain subjects. As an example, MacCann mentioned a student named Kelly, who is good at math and science but low in emotional intelligence. She has difficulty seeing when others are worried or sad, and she does not know what to do to control her own feelings. As a result, Kelly does not recognize that her best friend, Lucia, is having a bad day, making Lucia mad at her. Lucia then does not help Kelly (as she usually does) to analyze the characters in plays in English literature class, a class in which Kelly often struggles.
“Kelly feels ashamed that she can’t do the work that other students seem to find easy. She is also upset that Lucia is mad at her. She can’t shake these feelings, and she is not able to concentrate on her math problems in the next class,” said MacCann. “Because of her low emotion management ability, Kelly cannot get back from her emotions.”
28. What does the underlined word “conscientious” in paragraph 2 mean?
A. Hard-working. B. Self-aware.
C. Ambitious. D. Brave.
29. What is the function of paragraph 3?
A. To define emotional intelligence in detail.
B. To explain emotional intelligence’s impacts.
C. To provide an example of students’ struggles.
D. To show the link between personality and success.
30. Why does Kelly often struggle in English literature class?
A. The content of the literature is too difficult.
B The literature knowledge is unfamiliar to her.
C. Her social issues fail her in class discussion.
D. She finds it hard to understand characters’ emotions.
31. What do we know about emotional intelligence from Kelly’s story?
A. It is less effective in science subjects.
B. It is important for students’ success.
C. It prevents emotions from affecting students.
D. It seems more important than strong friendships.
A 29. B 30. D 31. B
根据第二段中““Although we know that high intelligence and a conscientious nature are necessary for academic success, our research highlights a third factor, emotional intelligence,” said MacCann. “Simply being smart and putting in a lot of effort may not be enough. Students must also be able to understand and manage their emotions.” (麦卡恩说:“虽然我们知道高智商和conscientious的天性是学业成功的必要条件,但我们的研究强调了第三个因素——情商。”“仅仅聪明和付出很多努力可能还不够。学生还必须能够理解和管理自己的情绪”)”可知,高智商和另一种性格特质是学业成功所必需的,除了高智商,还需要付出努力,也就是勤奋努力的性格特质,所以“conscientious”意思是“勤奋的,努力的”。A. 故选A。
根据第三段“MacCann suggests that students with higher emotional intelligence may be better able to manage anxiety, boredom, disappointment, and other emotions that can damage academic performance. ‘Also, these students may be better able to manage the social world around them, forming better relationships with teachers, classmates, and family,’ she said. (麦坎恩认为,情绪智力较高的学生可能更能应对焦虑、无聊、失望以及其他可能会损害学业表现的情绪。她说:“此外,这些学生可能更能处理好他们周围的社交世界,与老师、同学和家人建立更好的关系。”)”可知,本段主要阐述了情商高的学生在情绪管理以及社交关系处理方面的优势,也就是在解释情商对学生产生的影响,所以第三段的功能是解释情商的影响。故选B。
【30题详解】
细节理解题。根据第四段中“As an example, MacCann mentioned a student named Kelly, who is good at math and science but low in emotional intelligence.
根据第四段通过Kelly的例子,说明情商低的学生在学业和社交上遇到的问题,如英语文学课上的困难以及与朋友关系的紧张等,以及第一段“Students who are able to understand and manage their emotions more effectively, a skill known as emotional intelligence, do better at school than their less skilled classmates, according to recent research. (根据最近的研究,能够有效理解和管理自己情绪的学生,即具备情商这一技能的学生,在学校比那些不太具备这一技能的同学表现更好)”可知,情商高的学生在学校表现更好,而情商低的学生会遇到各种问题,从反面印证了情商对学生成功的重要性。故选B。
D
Nowadays, social running is popular in cities globally. Running clubs, which attracted competitive runners at first, have spread worldwide and now appeal to a broader audience for support, motivation, and friendship.
The rise of social media and fitness apps has changed running clubs. Online platforms (平台) enable runners to connect, organize events, and track progress, making running more accessible. Running with others helps maintain a conversational pace and build a community.
Danielle Burnett, leader of a running club, recently hosted her first group run. “At the start, people were chatting just a bit,” she says. “Then, when we came back, it felt like connections had been made. People were already talking about meeting up for runs later that week.”
Rachel Goldberg, a marriage and family expert, has noticed that people are much more willing to open up during exercise. “If you are near somebody but not necessarily facing them eye to eye, you might just feel less threatened,” she says, “This can lead to deeper conversations and stronger connections and also a great way to break down social anxiety.” One reason for this may be that running stimulates (刺激) endorphins, the body’s natural feel-good chemicals. “They can make you feel less stressed, and everything around you starts to seem more positive,” says Goldberg.
Additionally, keeping a conversational pace while running with friends offers unique physical benefits, too. Conversational running is often associated with Zone 2 training, which includes working out at an intensity (强度) of 60 to 70 percent of your maximum heart rate. “Doing low-intensity exercise builds patience so you’ll be able to go longer and further,” says Kristen, a running coach. “You’re also going to recover faster and reduce your risk of injuries.”
32. What has contributed to the changes of running clubs?
A. The decrease in the number of runners.
B. The development of digital platforms.
C. The efforts of running club leaders.
D. The popularity of running in rural areas.
33. What does Goldberg explain about social running?
A. Its starting point. B. Its appeal for group runs.
C. Its impact on physical fitness. D. Its role in social connection.
34. What advantage does Zone 2 training mainly offer?
A. It develops the patience of runners.
B. It improves the speed of running.
C. It increases the intensity of exercise.
D. It promotes the quick growth of muscles.
35. What is the best title for the text?
A. The Popularity of Social Running
B. The Benefits of Running Clubs
C. Social Running: More Than Just a Workout
D. Running Clubs: More Than a gathering place
B 33. D 34. A 35. C

根据最后一段的“Conversational running is often associated with Zone 2 training, which includes working out at an intensity (强度) of 60 to 70 percent of your maximum heart rate. “Doing low-intensity exercise builds patience so you’ll be able to go longer and further,” says Kristen, a running coach. 【35题详解】
主旨大意题。根据第一段的“Nowadays, social running is popular in cities globally.

Being a twelve-year-old girl is hard; being a twelve-year-old girl with dyslexia (阅读障碍) makes it even harder.
I was standing in my mom’s bedroom with my unfinished math homework in my hand. “I can’t do it, Mom. I don’t understand it!” Although I couldn’t see clearly through my teary eyes, I could still sense my mom’s face was filled with concern.
“Can I see your homework, honey?” As instructed, I slowly handed over the paper. After a short pause, she excitedly announced, “You got the fifth question right!” Shrugging(耸) my shoulders, I replied, “Yeah, but the rest are probably wrong.”
Mom lifted my chin with a gentle hand and said, “That you got some answers wrong doesn’t make the answer you got right any less impressive!”
As we stood in silence, she lightly held my shoulders and slowly turned me so I could see myself in the large mirror. “Now repeat after me!” Mom said in a kind but demanding voice, “I DID IT!” She stopped as she waited for me to follow her.
With a reassuring hand on my shoulder, Mom said, “You know that I went through, and still go through the same hardships. But I know I’m competent, smart and successful and it’s so important that my daughter knows how intelligent she is. Now, let’s take a look at your homework.”
Together we looked through and completed the math homework. After each problem we got right, we would high-five as if I had just won a huge victory.
“Now, tomorrow when you are doing your math, I want you to take the problems one at a time and say ‘I DID IT!’ after completing each one. OK?” said Mom.
“OK, I’ll try,” I replied.

As I walked through the school gate, I had a smile on my face.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
The next day, I sat at my desk in front of my frightening math test. I took a deep breath and tried my best to keep calm. I blocked out every problem except the one at the top of my sheet. With my mom’s words ringing in my ears, I focused on one single question each time. Then I simply moved on to the next question, and the next, until eventually I said “I DID IT!” so many times that I couldn’t help but believe that I had actually done something great! In the end, I handed in my test paper with a sigh of relief.
As I walked through the school gate, I had a smile on my face. When Mom came to greet me with her usual hug, I raised my hands above my head in the champion’s pose, and with a new-found confidence I announced, “I DID IT!” My mom and I both exchanged excited high-fives. Did I get all the questions on my math test right? The answer wasn’t the point. The point was that I not only did my best, but I was able to congratulate myself for doing the best I could do! Thanks to my mom’s encouragement, without which I wouldn’t have made such great progress.

New Zealand is home to some of the most amazing and accessible waterfalls, where the power of water meets the beauty of nature. Here are a few must-see waterfalls in the country.
Otuihau Whangarei Falls
Just a 20-minute drive from the city center, this waterfall is a dramatic 26-meter curtain waterfall. It flows into a clear pool and is particularly wonderful after heavy rain. A well-maintained walking track leads to many viewpoints, including a bridge that allows visitors to view the waterfall from different angles. It’s also a popular spot for picnics and swimming.
Waireinga Bridal Veil Falls
Located in the Waireinga Scenic Reserve, this waterfall is a breathtaking sight. The Pakoka River falls 55 meters into a native forest. The waterfall is surrounded by tawa trees, and a wheelchair-friendly track leads visitors to various viewing points. The waterfall is considered scared, with local traditions saying it is guarded by fairies (精灵).
Waiau Falls
This waterfall, located in a distant part of Peninsula, is one of New Zealand’s hidden jewels. The waterfall drops 6 meters into a natural pool, perfect for a refreshing swim.

B. The literature knowledge is unfamiliar to her.
C Her social issues fail her in class discussion.
D. She finds it hard to understand characters’ emotions.
31. What do we know about emotional intelligence from Kelly’s story?
A. It is less effective in science subjects.
B. It is important for students’ success.
C. It prevents emotions from affecting students.
D. It seems more important than strong friendships.

D The popularity of running in rural areas.
33. What does Goldberg explain about social running?
A. Its starting point. B. Its appeal for group runs.
C. Its impact on physical fitness. D. Its role in social connection.
34. What advantage does Zone 2 training mainly offer?
A. It develops the patience of runners.
B. It improves the speed of running.
C. It increases the intensity of exercise.
D. It promotes the quick growth of muscles.
35. What is the best title for the text?
A. The Popularity of Social Running
B. The Benefits of Running Clubs
C. Social Running: More Than Just a Workout
D. Running Clubs: More Than a gathering place

It's always a pleasure to pick up mushrooms. They are tasty and less expensive than the ones you can buy in stores. In this program, we will introduce some cautions from a nice mushroom picking session. First, you will need a basket to put the mushrooms. Don't use a plastic bag, as you will break tender mushrooms. Next, if you plan to go in an unknown place, I really advise taking a mobile phone and some water. Also try to not be alone. You don't want to be lost alone in the woods, right then, if you are like mere trained mushroom hunter, you should already note the good Sparks. It's always good to choose a nice forest with a good tree cover. I don't have the magical way to find a good place, just ask local people. Once you are in the forest, the mushrooms are typically into wet and darker spots. If you are lucky, you may find nice mushrooms when picking. Make sure you know the kind of mushrooms. In my case, I only take those with a very recognizable shape. Avoid brightly coloured ones. Remember, don't pull them, but cut them with a knife. You will leave the internal roots in the floor. IT will allow the mushroom to grow up again. Leave those with smaller cups in place. Think about the other people, take only what you need.
