In the past three years, there have been many colorful activities in our school. I will never forget the club activity in Grade Eight.
I was a member of the English Drama Club. Every Tuesday, we joined together in the room and learned to act interesting plays. It was my favourite time at my school. Last year, our teacher encouraged us to perform in front of all the students. We felt nervous at first, but our teacher believed us. To make it successful, we spent several weekends practising. It was tiring but no one gave up. Finally, we performed excellently and all the teashers and students praised us. Every member was satisfied with it.
Thanks to the club activity, I not only achieved my acting dream but also made some true friends. I will never forget the experience.

“Why did she spill the beans?” I thought regretfully. I’ ll always remember that day, when I was so surprised by all the strange looks people gave me. I couldn’t believe I had lost the friendship of the person I trusted the most.
Five years ago, Sally was the new kid in class. I didn’t know why, but something special about her attracted me. After a few months, we were best friends. I never expected her to hurt me so much.
Sally was the most friendly person I knew. Maybe that’s why I told her about my personal life. She then told everyone at school, exaggerating (夸大) the matter and adding her own opinions on it. It was like someone had stabbed (刺) me in the back. After she gave away my secrets, people started laughing at me. They looked at me and giggled me whenever I passed by. To avoid embarrassment (尴尬), I changed schools. Sally called me many times, but I didn’t want to talk to her.
I tried hard to forget the pain she left on my heart. After five years, my life went back to the way it was, Iran into Anna at the market. She was my classmate from Grade 3. She told me that Sally wasn’t the one who brought my secrets to light. Mary was. Mary was our school’s big mouth who always wanted to stick her nose into other people’s business.
I was really at sea. I wished I could have asked Sally about this. I wished I could go back in time and fix my mistakes. From that, I learned a life lesson— we should be open to honest communication before jumping to conclusions, because even one little mistake could really damage our friendships.

C. She told Sally’s secrets to others. D. She went to work at a market.

26. What life lesson did the writer learn from the experience?
A. Mistakes are difficult to avoid. B. Keeping others’ secrets is not easy.
C. It’s better to make decisions quickly. D. Open communication matters in friendships.

①Great news for pet owners in China! Passengers can now bring certain pets on some high-speed trains. This is a new program by China Railway Express (中铁快运). The move is a first for the country’s railway system.
②The service began its test run on April 10. It’s being tested on ten trains along the Beijing-Shanghai High-speed Railway. It only runs between five big stations: Beijing South, Jinan West, Nanjing South, Shanghai Hongqiao and Hangzhou East. People can book tickets for their pets using the 12306 ticket system at least two days before travel.
③Not all pets can ride the train. So far, only pet cats and dogs are allowed on board. And they must be in good health. Owners are required to show a health certificate (证明) for their pets. Besides, the pet must be less than 15 kilograms and no taller than 40 centimeters at the shoulder.
④Pets will be put in specially designed containers. These boxes are kept in a separate area away from passengers. Train workers will watch the pets during the trip and check on them every two hours. Water may be provided if needed, but pets cannot be fed during the trip.
⑤The service follows a“same departure (出发), same arrival” rule. That means owners and their pets must get on the train at the same station and get off together as well. Pet owners should arrive early to finish check-in (登记), and pets must be picked up within one hour after arrival.
⑥Pricing of the service is based on travel distance. For example, transporting a pet on a journey under 1000 kilometers will cost 558 yuan. During the trial period (试行期), it only costs 360 yuan.
⑦Some pet owners are happy with the new service. Many others, however, are a bit worried about the safety of their pets. They hope that in the future their pets can sit next to them on the train.

“Look in my eyes. Tell me why.” Have you found yourself listening to “ancient people” online recently?
Creative vloggers (视频博主) are using AI technology to bring famous people from history like Tang Dynasty poets Li Bai and Du Fu“back to life”. These videos have become popular, showing these ancient icons speaking in modern language.
In one video, Du Fu talks about his experience during the An-Shi Rebellion (755-763). In another, Ming Dynasty medical expert (专家) Li Shizhen makes fun of modern lifestyles like trying to be healthy by drinking goji berry (枸杞) water but still staying up late.
“These videos make me want to learn more about important ancient people. I didn’t know much about their stories before,” said Wang Jiayi, 15, from Shandong.
The new trend isn’t for everyone, however. The way these ancient people speak, in high tones(声调) and always asking questions, annoys (使心烦) some people. “They’re too pushy (压迫感的), which is different from how they really were,” said 14-year-old Wang Shutong from Jiangsu.
Xia Boen, 14, from Hubei, felt the same. But he was surprised to find that he “remembered almost everything they said about their experiences and achievements” because of the speaking style in the videos.
These videos use a more modern way to let ancient people “speak for themselves”. However, “we should be careful with these videos and make sure they are not sharing wrong information,” noted Nanfang Daily.
