Instead of traveling long hours to somewhere far away, more Chinese travelers choose shorter trips close to home now! This is because they want to experience local life, not rush through sightseeing. Experts see this as a trend (趋势) for slower, deeper travel experiences.
Lin Keya, from Urumqi, Xinjiang, spent a few days in a village nearby for the National Day holiday this year. There, she woke up to the sounds of roosters (公鸡) and slept peacefully in the moonlight. “Being in nature saved my tired soul (灵魂),” Lin told Xinhua. The village was just a two-hour drive from her home.
Another traveler, Ms Peng, traveled with her family from Guiyang to Leshan. They are two cities in Southwest China. She said busy sightseeing tours only touch the surface—what truly draws people now is deep trips. “Spending less time on the road gave us more time to enjoy the place,” said Peng.
This trend is growing because China is developing its high-speed rail network. It now reaches over 46,000 kilometers and connects over 96 percent of cities with more than 500,000 people, reported China Daily. High-speed trains give many travelers, especially elderly ones, easy and relaxing trips.

C. To rush through sightseeing. D. To avoid traffic jams.
47. What did Lin Keya enjoy during her village trip?

C. Getting close to nature. D. Tasting the local chicken.

B. Travelers’ increasing interest in slower, deeper travel.
C. The large population as well as the large area of China.
D. Elderly people’s great love for China’s high-speed trains.

Look around during rush hour and you might see many young people, especially girls, with their phones hanging on colorful straps (带子) across their bodies. Lately, phone straps have become a trend in young people’s daily look videos on TikTok.
Phone straps provide a feeling of safety by keeping phones within easy reach at all times. “The ability to keep a phone close to the body and have both hands free can help give users greater peace of mind, especially in crowded public places,” a spokesperson for Casetify, a phone strap seller, said.
However, reporter Ellie Muir recently argued in an article that the trend is “just a way to stop women from noticing the lack of (缺乏) pockets on their clothes”. In Muir’s view, women’s clothes have seldom been designed for practicality (实用性). They often have no pockets or the pockets are too small to hold a phone. Like handbags, Muir believes that the phone strap is doing well as the consequence of the lack of pockets on women’s clothes. While it may help go hands-free and add a feeling of protection, there’s a far more cost-effective solution: clothes with deep, practical pockets.
Sharing Muir’s opinion, design expert Hannah Carlson believes that women’s clothes are designed for beauty while men’s clothes are made to be practical. This shows “old ideas about women’s place and about the smaller social part they are expected to play,” Carlson told The New York Times.
50. How do phone straps help people according to the spokesperson for Casetify?
A. They free the hands of the users. B. They show the users’ sense of fashion.
C. They make phones less likely to break. D. They help users notice the lack of pockets.
51 What does the underlined word “consequence” in Paragraph 3 probably mean?
A. Example. B. Opinion. C. Number. D. Result.

During the break times between classes, Xiao Jingsheng from Beijing Shangdi Experimental School often rushed to the toilet then back to class with no time for anything else. But now that has changed. “I can have more time to rest and share interesting things with my classmates,” said the 14-year-old.
Starting this term, students at primary and middle schools in Beijing have a longer break between two classes. It has been changed from 10 minutes to 15 minutes so that students can spend more time outdoors for their physical and mental (心理的) well-being.
To help children better enjoy break-time activities, some schools have mixed break time with labor (劳动) education by opening planting areas and animal feeding areas. “We have welcomed new friends to our school—some ducks and rabbits!” said Zhang Boren, a 13-year-old from Beijing 101 Middle School Kuangda Campus. “During the breaks, some play with these cute animals and look after them. We get closer to nature, which is very meaningful and relaxing.”
As the break time is longer, making sure everyone is safe is also important. Physical education (PE) teachers from the School Affiliated to Chaoyang Education Research Center keep an eye on students playing on the ground. “Sometimes the ground can be wet in the morning, so we tell the students to do more warm-up body exercises to avoid running and slipping (滑倒),” said one PE teacher.

Look around during rush hour and you might see many young people especially girls, with their phones hanging on colorful straps (带子) across their bodies.
51. What does the underlined word “consequence” in Paragraph 3 probably mean?
A. Example. B. Opinion. C. Number. D. Result.
52. What are women’s clothes designed for according to Hannah Carlson?

One day, Andy was taking a walk and happened to pass by a beautiful farm. He noticed a farmer standing by the farm, looking worried.
Andy wondered what the farmer was worried about, so he spoke to the farmer. “Why do you look so worried? Have you planted wheat (小麦)?” Andy asked. The farmer slowly shook his head. His face was marked with worry as he spoke, “I’ve noticed that the weather isn’t great and I’m worried that if it rains, the newly planted wheat might get wet. There’s a chance it won’t sprout (发芽) at all, or even worse, it could go bad in the soil.”
Andy nodded with understanding and then asked, “Then, have you planted cotton?” The farmer thought for a time, and he said once again, “No. I’m worried about the insects this season. They might come and harm the newly planted cotton. I simply can’t take that risk.”
Andy was surprised and asked again, “So, what have you planted then?” The farmer let out a heavy sigh and replied, “I haven’t planted anything. I want to make sure that there’s no chance of rain ruining (毁坏) my crops and no insects to hurt them.”
