Alex, a 15-year-old student, loved his parents. However, between morning classes and late-night homework, schoolwork, hobbies, and social media left him little time for family talks. Quick chats during meals often turned into arguments about grades or screen time.
One Friday evening, after a fight about maths scores, Alex rushed to the park. There he noticed a young mother holding a flower and talking with her little boy. “Thank you for your beautiful flower, my boy. I love you,” the woman said to her son. Alex cried a little. He wished to be close to his own parents.
The next morning at breakfast, Alex put down his phone and said, “Mum, Dad, can we talk after dinner?” That night, they talked in the living room instead of looking at different screens. Chikungunya is a sickness. It comes from mosquitoes (). It cannot pass from one person to another. When a sick mosquito bites (咬) you, it can make you sick. Symptoms (症状) usually show up 3—7 days later and include:
These problems can last for weeks or even months. While most people get better, it can be very serious, especially for older people or those who are sick.

The tiger mosquito spreads this disease more than other mosquitoes. It loves warm weather and water. Sadly, as our planet gets warmer, this mosquito is moving to new places. Right now, big diseases are happening on islands in the Indian Ocean and in some parts of Asia and Africa. Travelers can bring it to new areas, like Europe.
________

◆Put mosquito medicine on your skin and clothes.
◆Wear long shirts and pants, especially in the morning and evening. Light-colored clothes help too!

◆Use a mosquito net while sleeping if needed.
33. What mainly spreads chikungunya to people?
A. Dirty water. B. Sick persons. C. Mosquito bites. D. High temperature.

D
“Why don’t you listen?” “You just don’t understand me!” “You’re of no help at all!” Sound familiar (熟悉的)? When you’re having a difficult conversation with your parents or friends, accusatory words like those can stop a talk. As soon as one feels hurt, they become defensive (防御的). Real communication becomes hard. We often talk about others’ actions first, but not our own feelings. Here lie the differences between “I” and “you” statements (陈述).
An “I-statement” is a sentence that starts with the word “I”. It tells another person how you are feeling. For example, you can say “I feel...” or “I become nervous when...” I-statements are useful because they let you express feelings without blaming (责怪) other people. “You-statements”, on the other hand, begin with “you” and focus on what others have done wrong.
Why are I-statements important? If you talk about others’ mistakes first, they will protect themselves and blame you back. But sentences starting with “I” let you share your bad feelings, so others won’t think you are blaming them. You can see this when no one wants you to join them. Instead of saying “You always leave me out”, you can say “I feel hurt because it feels like I’m not welcome”. You show your feelings kindly without blaming others. Then people will feel good and want to keep talking with you, so you can solve the problem together.
It’s a small change. But if you are more careful about how you say things, you may find that people are more ready to listen.
37. What does the underlined phrase “accusatory words” in paragraph 1 mean?
A. Words that hurt others. B. Words to explain reasons.
C. Words that sound familiar. D. Words to start conversations.
38. Which of the following is an “I-statement”?
A. I think you are right. B. I become nervous when we argue loudly.
C. I know everyone in the family is busy. D. I am sad that you always don’t listen to me.
39. How does the writer support his idea in paragraph 3?
A. By using sayings. B. By asking questions. C. By telling a story. D. By giving an example.
40. What’s the writer’s purpose of writing the text?
A. To explain when to use I-statements. B. To encourage people to use I-statements.
C. To show the bad sides of you-statements. D. To suggest being careful of you-statements.
【答案】37. A 38. B 39. D 40. B
根据文章第1段“As soon as one feels hurt, they become defensive”可知,这类话语会让他人感到受伤并产生防御心理,因此“accusatory words”指的是伤害他人的话语。
【38题详解】
推理判断题。根据文章第2段“For example, you can say ‘I feel...’or ‘I become nervous when...’”及“I-statements are useful because they let you express feelings without blaming other people”可知,“I陈述”应以“I”开头表达感受且不责怪他人。
【39题详解】
推理判断题。根据文章第3段“You can see this when no one wants you to join them. Instead of saying..., you can say...”可知,作者通过列举当没人邀请你加入时的具体说话案例来支持观点。
【40题详解】
主旨大意题。根据全文内容及最后一段“if you are more careful about how you say things, you may find that people are more ready to listen”可知,文章主要介绍了“I陈述”的好处,目的是鼓励人们使用“I陈述”来改善沟通。
第二节 阅读表达 (共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
阅读下面短文,简略回答问题。
Many people believe that eating healthily means giving up all their favourite foods. This is not true. In fact, a healthy diet is all about balance and making smart choices.
Take the example of Peter, a 15-year-old student who loved fried (油炸的)food. He ate French fries (薯条) almost every day and drank cola. His weight increased quickly. His parents became worried and took him to see a doctor.
The doctor did not tell Peter to stop eating his favourite foods completely. Instead, she suggested small changes. She asked Peter to start with one simple rule: eat fried food only once a week instead of every day. For the rest of the week, he could have other food. She also advised him to change sweet drinks to water or milk.
Six months later, Peter had lost 8 kg. More importantly, he felt more energetic and slept better at night. The key to his success was that he didn’t feel deprived (被剥夺的)—he could still enjoy his favourite fried food sometimes.
Research shows that people who make gradual changes to their diet are more likely to stick with them. Very strict diets that cut out whole food groups often fail because people feel unhappy and give up. The best way is to add more healthy foods to your diet rather than only focus on taking away unhealthy ones.
Remember, a healthy lifestyle is a journey, not a finishing line. Every small step counts.
41. Why did Peter’s parents take him to see a doctor?
__________________________________________________________________________________________
42. How often could Peter eat fried food after seeing the doctor?
__________________________________________________________________________________________
43. How did Peter feel after the changes?

44. Why do strict eating plans usually end up failing?

【答案】41. Because his weight increased quickly and they became worried.

They were nervous at first. Alex spoke about his school football team, and his parents told him work stories. Slowly, they talked for 15 minutes each day as a new habit.
Two weeks later, good things happened. While talking about weekend plans, Alex’s father asked for his advice. His mother shared her teenage stories. A month later, the family became close once more. Alex learned about his parents’ young days. Daily talks connected them. They still had disagreements, yet they knew how to say sorry and understand one another.

What is Chikungunya?
Chikungunya is a sickness. It comes from mosquitoes (). It cannot pass from one person to another. When a sick mosquito bites (咬) you, it can make you sick. Symptoms (症状) usually show up 3—7 days later and include:
These problems can last for weeks or even months. While most people get better, it can be very serious, especially for older people or those who are sick.
How does it spread?
The tiger mosquito spreads this disease more than other mosquitoes. It loves warm weather and water. Sadly, as our planet gets warmer, this mosquito is moving to new places. Right now, big diseases are happening on islands in the Indian Ocean and in some parts of Asia and Africa. Travelers can bring it to new areas, like Europe.
________
Chikungunya is hard to deal with because its symptoms look similar to other diseases. That makes it difficult for doctors to know for sure what you have. The best way to fight chikungunya is to stop mosquitoes from biting you. Here’s what you can do:
◆Put mosquito medicine on your skin and clothes.
◆Wear long shirts and pants, especially in the morning and evening. Light-colored clothes help too!
◆Empty water from things like flower pots or old bottles around your house every week, because mosquitoes like laying (产卵) their eggs in standing water.
◆Use a mosquito net while sleeping if needed.
33. What mainly spreads chikungunya to people?
A. Dirty water. B. Sick persons. C. Mosquito bites. D. High temperature.
34. Which is the best sentence to put in “ ________”?
A. How can you protect yourself? B. When will chikungunya go away?
C. Why should you protect yourself? D. Who gets chikungunya most easily?
35. Where do mosquitoes like laying their eggs?
A. Cold dry flower pots. B. Clean running water.
C. Long shirts and pants. D. Old bottles with standing water.
36. What does the text mainly talk about?
A. Tiger mosquitoes’ living habits B. Ways to kill mosquitoes at home
C. Medicine for treating Chikungunya. D. Chikungunya and ways to keep away from it.
__________________________________________________________________________________________
44. Why do strict eating plans usually end up failing?
__________________________________________________________________________________________
45. How do you understand the sentence “A healthy lifestyle is a journey, not a finishing line”?
