Dear David,
How is everything going?
Last Wednesday, our school had a tree-planting activity in People’s Park. We met at the school gate at 8 a.m. and went there by bus. When we arrived, we dug holes, put young trees into them, and filled the holes with soil. Finally, we watered the trees. Everyone worked hard and helped each other.
Planting trees is good for people, animals and the Earth. It was a special day! We felt proud because we made our city more beautiful. Though we were tired, we were very happy.
Yours,
Li Hua

I am often asked what I miss most about living in China. The answer is food,
especially food from Din Tai Fung(DTF). Every Friday I visited the restaurant while
living in Hangzhou a few years ago.
One good thing about DTF is that it’s a global chain(连锁店). Last month, when I
flew back home to Los Angeles from Brussels. I went to a local branch(分店) with my
parents. My mother’s favorite dish there was the sweet and sour ribs. Ribs aren’t her cup
of tea, but she just couldn’t say no to the ones at DTF. My father loved the hot and sour
soup. “Now I’ve found my joy of life,” he said with a big smile. We had a really big meal
that night, chatting happily over our favorite dishes.
When I was in China, I learnt that Yang Bingyi, a man from Shanxi, opened DTF as
a cooking oil shop in Taipei in 1958. But in the 1970s his business went under. To turn
things around, Yang decided to turn half of his shop into a restaurant. Soon the

xiaolongbao in that half attracted crowds of hungry customers, making it well known.
Today, the xiaolongbao is still the star of the show at DTF. Everyone has their own

wontons. It’s not my problem, is it? After all, different strokes for different folks.

Have you noticed how things in nature slow down in winter? Animals hibernate(冬
眠), insects stop buzzing so much and leaves have dropped from the trees. There’s a lot
we can learn from the natural world by learning to take things easy.
One of the reasons that animals and plants slow down is to save energy. As humans
are part of the natural world, it is good for people too. “We need to rest so we can be full
of energy when it’s time to be active again,” explains Rakhee Jasani. “Taking it easy
helps us to notice more of what’s happening around us, like how a plant grows or how
the clouds move in the sky,” she says. “When we do things slowly, we pay attention to
details we might miss if we rush.”
Slowing down gives you a chance to rest in between all the activities that fill your
days. When you relax, your blood flows more smoothly and your body digests(消化)
food more easily. Resting also calms the mind, which improves concentration, memory
and emotional health. A study found that school pupils who were given 15 minutes of
quiet time to read or meditate(冥想) at the start and the end of the day were happier than
at the start of the study. The pupils also worked harder, paid more attention in class and
got better grades.
It is a great way to get more from every moment when slowing down. Next time you
go for a walk, instead of rushing, try paying attention to your surroundings——listen out
for birds or the sound of the wind, notice scenery and any smell in the air. Notice what
difference it makes to how you think and feel.
56. How does the writer start the text?
A. By asking a question. B. By telling a story.
C. By using a saying. D. By explaining a fact.
57. Why do animals and plants slow down in winter?
A. To prepare for spring. B. To avoid the cold.
C. To save energy. D. To grow faster.
58. What does slowing down help us do according to Rakhee Jasani?
A. Reduce energy levels. B. Notice more details.
C. Miss important things. D. Rush through tasks.
九年级英语试题 第10页(共15页)网(北京)股份有限公司
59. What is the main idea of paragraph 3?
A. The benefits of slowing down. B. The ways of slowing down.
C. The study on resting the mind. D. The activities for resting the mind.
60. What does the writer suggest we do in the last paragraph?
A. Focus on getting to our goal quickly. B. Think about our daily tasks.
C. Pay attention to the things around us. D. Avoid looking at the scenery.

Do you still remember the robots in the Yangge dance
performance at the Spring Festival Gala? They were made by
Unitree, a robotics company in China. The company has now
developed a new human-like robot called the G1 Bionic robot. It
can walk and run on different types of ground.
In the past, human-like robots had a hard time walking on
the ground that is not smooth. When we walk, we reach out one
leg, lean forward a bit, and quickly move the other leg forward.
But when a two-legged robot does this on uneven ground, it can easily lose its balance
and fall.
The G1 Bionic robot solves this problem with some high-tech equipments. Its
sensors(感应器) and special camera act as powerful eyes. The sensors use lasers(激光) to
help it see all around it in 360 degrees. And the camera tells it how far away things are.
Besides, the robot has motors(电机) on its joints. The motors change how hard it pushes
its legs so that the robot can move itself to avoid falling.
What is more, the robot has built-in AI. Its developers filmed humans moving on
different types of ground. The AI has learned from these videos so that it can control the
robot to move in the same way. In a video from Unitree, the robot walks and runs across
railways and over rocks. It even goes up and down hills. The robot can reach speeds of
up to 7.2 kilometers per hour. That’s faster than most people can walk. Way to go, G1!
61. What is the greatest advantage of G1 Bionic robot?
A. Performing traditional dances. B. Having better balance.
C. Looking like a human. D. Learning to walk by itself.
62. How do the sensors on the G1 Bionic robot help it?
A. By making it move easily. B. By making it see everything around.
九年级英语试题 第11页(共15页)网(北京)股份有限公司
C. By making it run quickly. D. By making it sense the right distance.
63. The last paragraph mainly talks about the G1’s _______.

C. learning skills D. moving speed
64. From the text we can know that _______.
A. the G1 Bionic robot’s look is quite cool
B. robot dance performing is very difficult
C. robot technology is developing rapidly in China
D. the G1 Bionic robot can solve daily problems as humans
65. What could be the best title of the text?
