馆陶县第一中学 编写人:张一丹 使用时间:202505 Unit 4 Space Exploration Period 5 Reading for Writing 导学案 【Learning Objectives】 By the end of this class, we will be able to: 1. Learn whether it is worthwhile to explore space. 2. Understand the basic structure and language features of the argumentative essay. 3. Write and argumentative essay with clear argument and solid evidence. 【Key points & difficult points】 1. To write an argumentation. 【Learning procedures】 Step1 Lead-in (5 minutes) • Task 1: Quick Guessing & Discussion (3 minutes) ◦ Show images of astronauts (Wang Yaping, Yang Liwei) and ask: "What is the significance of their profession for space exploration?" ◦ After quick student responses, present the debate topic: "Do you think space exploration is a waste of time and money?" • Task 2: Watch Micro-video (2 minutes) ◦ Play the "China Space Day" theme short video. Combine with images to help students intuitively experience space exploration achievements. Step2 Pre-reading Prediction (3 minutes) • Task 1: Predict the Author’s Attitude (1 minute) ◦ Ask: "Does the author hold a positive or negative attitude toward space exploration?" Students vote (positive/negative). • Task 2: Genre Judgment (2 minutes) ◦ Display the text title. Students determine the text type through options (A. Argumentative B. Narration C. Travel Plan), introducing the structure of an argumentative essay (opinions, evidence, conclusion). Step3: Reading & Comprehension (15 minutes) 1. Skimming – Grasp Opinions & Structure (3 minutes) • Students quickly browse the full text to complete: ◦ Identify two opposing opinions (some consider it a waste of resources; others believe it helps). ◦ Locate the author’s attitude: "shallow view" indicates the author supports space exploration. 2. Close Reading – Analyze Evidence (10 minutes) • Paragraphs 2-4: Three Arguments ◦ Task 1: Paragraph Matching (3 minutes) ◦ Match arguments to paragraphs: ◦ Para2: Fighting world hunger (satellite data aiding agriculture) ◦ Para3: Technological advancements (new materials, medical devices, everyday products) ◦ Para4: Resource awareness & Mars colonization (limited Earth resources) ◦ Task 2: Detail Fill-in (4 minutes) ◦ Complete the table: Argument Specific Evidence/Examples How can space exploration solve the problem of world hunger? How can space exploration solve the problem of fatal diseases? How can space exploration solve the problem of pollution? 3. Summarize Paragraph 5 (Conclusion) (2 minutes) • Read the concluding paragraph aloud, emphasizing the author’s view: "Space exploration brings long-term and short-term benefits and should continue." Step4: Classroom Activities (8 minutes) 1. Opinion Categorization & Discussion (4 minutes) • Display arguments (A-D). Students work in groups to categorize them as "For/Against space exploration" and add their own ideas (e.g., "Space exploration drives technological innovation"). • Example Table: For Space Exploration Against Space Exploration B (Seeking new homes) A (Unsolved Earth mysteries) D (Technological progress) C (Waste of funds) 2. Group Debate: Possibility of Living on Mars (4 minutes) • Topic: "Is it possible to live on Mars?" ◦ Pro side: Based on arguments of the text ("Mars is closer," "potential future residence"). ◦ Con side: Raise challenges (e.g., atmosphere, temperature, resource issues). • Teachers guide the use of connecting words (moreover, in addition) and opinion expressions ("Some people argue that..."). Step5: Summary (2 minutes) Summarize what you’ve learned in this class. Step6: Writing Guidance (5 minutes) • Task: Outline of Argumentative Essay ◦ Based on the "writing framework," emphasize: 1. Introduction: Introduce the topic and state the position. 2. Body Paragraphs: Each argument + evidence (e.g., satellite data, technological applications). 3. Conclusion: Restate the opinion and summarize benefits. • Prompt Words: Use firstly, secondly, finally to connect arguments and for example for evidence. Step7: Homework (2 minutes) • Required: Write a 120-word argumentative essay titled "Is it possible to live on Mars?" using class arguments. • Optional: Research the latest progress in "Mars colonization" and share in the next class. 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
