On Tuesday, Sam’s father lost his job. Then on Wednesday, Sam’s mother announced that the rent (房租) on their apartment was going up. Now it was Friday, and Sam received an invitation from Rosa to her birthday party. Sam knew Rosa from Adventure Club. He knew he would enjoy Rosa’s party, but he didn’t want to go without a gift. What could he possibly buy her with the little bit of money he had? Sam knew he couldn’t ask Mom or Dad for any money—not this week! Later that afternoon, Sam noticed a second-hand book sale going on. He went there and had a quick look. Two books caught his eye. The first was a cookbook of Puerto Rican foods, and the second was a book about woman explorers. “Rosa would like these,” Sam thought, “but would it be tacky (蹩脚的) to give her second-hand books for her birthday?” Sam decided that a second-hand gift was better than no gift at all. Besides, Rosa supported recycling in that way. So, she would probably like it. With his last dollar, Sam bought the books and went home. He felt a little better. The party was on Saturday. Rosa opened all her gifts and thanked everyone for the nice things they had given her. She paused when she opened Sam’s gift, which made him wonder if she liked the books, but nothing was said. When Sam got home, he opened his e-mail and found this note from Rosa.Dear Sam, Of all the gifts I received today, yours was the nicest. How did you know I would love a book about woman explorers and a cookbook of Puerto Rican foods? Now I have something to read that will inspire me to follow my dream of becoming an adventurer, and I have a book that I can share with my grandmother. The word “circulatory” means something that is going around in a circle or loop (环). This is exactly what is happening in our bodies all of the time. ________ The simple answer is that your blood is circulated all around your body. The blood is doing an important job. It is taking oxygen all around the body to all the places it needs to go. Oxygen comes into our bodies when we breathe in. It goes into our lungs (肺). Then, this oxygen goes into our blood. Here it starts its journey around the body. You could think of the blood cells like delivery drivers. They drop off the oxygen where it needs to go. Oxygen is dropped off all around the body to thinner blood vessels (血管). These transfer the oxygen to the cells in the body. The Heart The heart is at the heart of it all! Without the heart, no blood would get anywhere around your body. The heart is a big pump (泵). It continuously pumps the blood around the circulatory system. This has to happen all the time to keep you alive. There are two loops in the circulatory system; the first goes to and from the heart. It visits the lungs to collect oxygen and throw away carbon dioxide (二氧化碳). The other loop is much larger. It goes to and from the heart but travels all around the body in between. The Other Half of the System We’ve talked about the blood in your system collecting oxygen and delivering it all around the body. It also does another important job. It takes carbon dioxide from your body back to the lungs to be let out when you breathe out. If we think of our red blood cells as delivery drivers again, they also collect the waste and take it away again. So, they are delivery drivers and waste disposers all in one! 32.Which of the following questions can be put in the blank? A.What circulates and why? B.When does blood flow and how often? C.Why is oxygen transferring? D.How does blood circulate all around you? 33.We can learn from Paragraph 3 that heart ________. A.makes the two loops work B.acts as a pump C.gets everywhere around you D.throws away the body waste 34.What does blood carry in Paragraph 4? A.Carbon and red blood cells. B.Cells and lungs. C.Carbon dioxide and oxygen. D.Carbon and waste. 35.We can read this passage from a ________. A.news report B.fashion magazine C.biological research D.chemistry interview 【答案】32.D 33.B 34.C 35.C 【详解】本文是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了人体内的循环系统,包括它的组成,以及心脏在循环系统中发挥的作用。 32.推理判断题。根据下文“The simple answer is that your blood is circulated all around your body.”及“It is taking oxygen all around the body to all the places it needs to go.”可知,此处介绍血液循环的含义和作用,所以D项符合。故选D。 33.细节理解题。根据第三段中的“The heart is a big pump (泵).”可知,心脏充当一个泵。故选B。 34.细节理解题。根据第四段中的“We’ve talked about the blood in your system collecting oxygen and delivering it all around the body. It also does another important job. It takes carbon dioxide from your body back to the lungs to be let out when you breathe out.”可知,血液中携带的是二氧化碳和氧气。故选C。 35.推理判断题。通读全文可知,文章主要介绍了人体内的循环系统,包括它的组成,以及心脏在循环系统中发挥的作用,属于生物学研究领域。故选C。 D At a long table in Gaolamei workshop, a young woman is busy with Tantou-style New Year pictures, a folk craft(手艺) that has been carried forward by her family for four generations. She is Zhong Xinglin, a folk artist in Tantou town, Longhui county, Central China’s Hunan province. Tantou-style New Year pictures feature auspicious(吉祥的) figures and elements from folklore that carry people’s prayers for good luck in a new year. As an intangible cultural heritage, the art style can be traced to the late Ming Dynasty (1368- 1644). In the early 1900s, this form of woodblock-printed New Year pictures entered a golden age, not only making its way across the country but also being exported to more than 10 countries and regions in Southeast Asia. Zhong’s interest in this craft stemmed from the influence of her family. Her grandparents were all national-level inheritors(继承人), and her father won the title in 2018. Their century-old family workshop is named after Zhong’s grandmother Gao Lamei. “My childhood memories mostly revolve around the workshop, where I watched them (grandparents and parents) making the New Year pictures,” she says, adding that she then spent time learning the craft and played with the tools lying around. “The engraved pear wood for printing, various pigments, and the stories behind each picture still often come into my mind,” she says. In 2011, Zhong landed a job at a local news agency in Changsha, the provincial capital of Hunan, after completing her Japanese-language studies at Guizhou Normal University in southwestern China. “I got exposure to various cultural development models and discovered the charm of traditional culture,” Zhong says. After her grandparents passed away, she felt a great sense of responsibility to carry on with  the family’s work. In 2017, she quit her job and learned more about the New Year pictures from her father. A.news report B.fashion magazine C.biological research D.chemistry interview D At a long table in Gaolamei workshop, a young woman is busy with Tantou-style New Year pictures, a folk craft(手艺) that has been carried forward by her family for four generations. To make Tantou-style New Year pictures, some 20 steps are followed, including using pear wood for engraving and bamboo to make paper, as well as multiple uses of woodwork and hand-painting before vivid, colorful folk paintings are produced by the skillful hands of craftsmen. Although things have changed a lot over the years, the New Year pictures are still a name card for the town and an emotional connection for people from the province. In recent years, Tantou-style New Year pictures have gained attention beyond the country’s borders. “Foreign friends love this traditional Chinese culture,” Zhong says, “Each time we went abroad for such exchanges and exhibitions, the several large boxes of New Year paintings that we took with us were sold out.” In her works, Zhong has incorporated elements of Tantou’s culture and tourism to attract travelers to Hunan. She plans to incorporate more local natural landscape and folk stories into the New Year pictures in the future. All a hungry person has to do is to open the app, scroll through an endless number of restaurant choices, and have the food delivered to their door. That convenience(便捷) and variety(多样性) has made such apps hugely welcome in China, Japan, North American countries and European countries, and especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. Many users say food delivery apps make their life much easier while others think they’re bad for local businesses. What do you think? Should take-out apps be banned(禁止)? Yes—the convenience isn’t worth it Many restaurants complain that take-out apps are more trouble than they’re worth. Some apps take a huge bite of the money from each sale—as much as 25%. Restaurants must either increase their prices or make less money, in an industry where profits(利润) are already slim. Also, they can’t always keep up with the increasing number of orders they receive. That makes customers unsatisfied with their service and products. Meanwhile, delivery workers say they’re not paid enough for a difficult, dangerous job in which they have to speed through busy streets. And what’s more, food delivery causes very serious environmental problems. According to a report, only plastic waste of all deliveries in China came to 1,600,000 tons in 2020. Can you imagine what it’s like in the whole world? No—they offer an important service Food apps bring restaurants more customers. Many of them might not know about their business otherwise.
