(2025高一下·广东广州·期中)I can’t believe I’m doing this! It’s 4:30 in the morning, pitch black and freezing cold. Nevertheless I find myself getting out of bed and getting dressed. A car horn sounds as I’m putting on a thick coat and wrapping a scarf around me. I grab a hat and join Jim in his car. He doesn’t seem to mind it’s cold and dark. In fact, he’s smiling. “You’re going to love this,” he says as we drive off to the nearest park. I’m not so sure.
At any opportunity Jim will be watching quietly, and sometimes excitedly, through his telescope at a bird. Don’t get me wrong. I like birds, but I just don’t get as crazy about them as Jim. Recently, when he found out that I had never heard the dawn chorus, he insisted that we meet at this unearthly hour and head for the local park.
So here we are. Luckily Jim has brought hot coffee and a warm carpet to sit on. After ten shivering minutes there is a very faint light over the eastern side of the park, a suggestion of the day ahead.
“Listen,” whispers Jim. I listen, nothing. Then clearly and loudly a bird starts singing. “That’s the robin. He’s usually the first.” After a few seconds another bird joins in “A blackbird” and then another “A bluebird”. It’s amazing. Twenty minutes later the whole park is alive with the chorus, calling, singing of birds! And yes, it’s wonderful! The noise is incredible. The lighter the sky becomes, the louder the birds sing, an incredible birds’ concert.
“Wow, so are they singing because they’re happy?” I ask in disbelief.
“Not really,” Jim laughs, “in fact they’re hungry but they need to do two things. One is to defend their territory and the other is to find a female — by singing they can achieve both.” Jim sees my puzzled face and explains.
We listen together for a while and then slowly but surely, as the sun emerges above the trees, the birds stop singing. “Now it’s light enough to find food, and that’s the end of the show today.”
24. What is the author’s first attitude to the early outing?
A. Cautious. B. Unwilling. C. Passionate. D. Indifferent.
25. What makes the author involved in the activity?
A. Jim’s insistence on it. B. Jim’s enthusiasm on birds.
C. The author’s interest in chorus. D. The author’s curiosity about birds.
26. What is paragraph 4 mainly about?
A. The singing skills of birds. B. The abundant diversity of birds.
C. Various tunes of the “dawn chorus”. D. Lively scenes of the “dawn chorus”.
27. Why do birds sing at dawn according to Jim?
A. To extend welcome to the sunrise. B. To fight fiercely for early worms.
C. To guard the land and attract mates. D. To show off their beautiful voices.

(2025高一下·河南郑州·期中)Animals appear to predict(预测) earthquakes by sensing electricity in the air — the first study to find reliable evidence of the phenomenon has shown.
Cameras showed an “amazing” drop in the number of animals up to 23 days before a major quake hit their rainforest home at Yanachaga National Park in Peru. Lead scientist Dr Rachel Grant, from Anglia Ruskin University, said, “The results showed that just before the earthquake, animals’ activity dropped right down.”
On a normal(正常的) day the cameras placed around Yanachaga National Park record between 5 and 15 animals. But in the 23 days before the earthquake, the number of animals dropped to five or fewer per day. No animals were photographed at all on five of the seven days immediately before the quake.
Another study showed that animal activity remained normal in the park over a different period when seismic(地震的) activity was low. Co-author, professor Friedemann Freund, said, “The cameras were located at an altitude of 900 meters. If air ionization(电离) occurred, the animals would escape to the valley below, where there were fewer positive ions(离子). With their ability to sense their environment, animals can help us understand small changes that occur before major earthquakes.”
Other evidence suggested that before the earthquake, the air around the high mountain sites is filled with positive ions that can be produced when rocks are placed under stress. Positive ions have been known to cause ill effects in humans as well as animals. Scientists believe the animals were made to feel uncomfortable by the positive ions, leading them to avoid the area. They are thought to have escaped to lower ground, where the air was less ionized. The findings may help experts develop better short-term seismic forecasts.
28. How did scientists conduct the study?
A. By comparing different animals’ habits.
B. By observing animals in high mountains.
C. By analyzing the photos of animals they obtained.
D. By explaining the positive ion phenomenon.
29. What usually happens before earthquakes according to the text?
A. The ground at a lower altitude is less ionized.
B. Cameras normally record more animals per day.
C. The air is filled with positive ions.
D. The activity of animals before earthquakes is normal.
30. What can we learn from the text?
A. The findings make for long-term seismic forecasts.
B. Animals tend to be uneasy with more positive ions.
C. Positive ions make humans and animals nervous.
D. All the animals remain abnormal before the earthquake.
31. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Negative Influence of Positive Ions B. Ions’ Destruction to the Environment
C. Animals’ Behavior Before Earthquakes D. Creatures’ Ability to Predict Natural Disasters

(2025高一下·山东·期中)For a vast majority of us, our smartphones are the lifeline. If it is lost, a lot is unachievable, such as getting guided to work and ordering coffee. This sounds like a nightmare(噩梦). But it should not be exactly far-fetched.
Despite being more digitally connected than ever, we are lonelier and more anxious. Anxiety rates increased by 25% globally. Depression now affects over 280 million people worldwide. All of this arises from our growing dependence on social media and smart technologies designed to offer quick relief but often at the expense of deep, meaningful activities.
While these conveniences offer short-term relief, they may weaken our thinking skills. For example, GPS has undeniably transformed the way we travel. But a 2020 study found that frequent GPS users struggle more with self-guided exploration. Over time, those who relied more on GPS showed a sharp decrease in spatial memory and problem-handling skills. However, reducing dependence on these conveniences can result in discomfort. In seeking comfort today, we might be trading away some discomfort.
That is the problem: the very discomfort we avoid is often what strengthens us. Regarding stress, a kind of discomfort, as a challenge rather than a threat leads to better outcomes. Research shows that mild stress can improve adaptability. Neuroscience (神经科学) reveals that neuroplasticity — the brain’s ability to form new connections — is sharpened through challenging experiences. This adaptability counts for developing resilience(抗逆力), a process fueled by both mental challenges and active effort.
But this doesn’t mean we should abandon comfort entirely; it’s to balance it with intentional discomfort. Think of it as small and manageable difficulties that keep our mental and emotional muscles strong, such as writing with a pen, or washing dishes by hand. These small acts are enough to reawaken the resilience we’ve buried under layers of ease. So, the next time you feel the pull of ease, pause. Ask yourself: Is this momentary comfort helping me grow or is it keeping me stuck? Choosing discomfort isn’t easy, but sometimes, it’s worth it.
32. What does the underlined word “far-fetched” in Paragraph 1 probably mean?
A. Likely to change. B. Certain to function.
C. Unable to relate to. D. Easy to appear.
33. What may digital conveniences cause according to the text?
A. The loss of thinking ability. B. The meaningful involvement.
C. The lack of necessary comfort. D. The fast but insignificant relief.
34. Which is a real-life application of intentional discomfort?
A. Exploring a city by using GPS. B. Taking the stairs instead of the lift.
C. Writing an email using voice-to-text. D. Ordering take-out food after work.
35. What is the purpose of the text?
A. To persuade readers to buy good smartphones.
B. To encourage readers to accept discomfort.
C. To urge readers to employ smart technologies.
D. To remind readers to think creatively.

Be a Good Tourist
Tourism can be both good and bad. Yes, it brings in money for the local economy and creates lots of jobs for locals, but it may also bring some problems.
36 Tourists have used paint, rocks, or even keys to write on the Luxor Temple in Egypt, the Colosseum in Rome, Stonehenge in the UK and many, many other places. 37 If you want to leave a mark on the world, do it by changing someone’s life with kindness and love.
Another big problem in some places has been tourists disturbing(打扰) the local people and life. 38 For example, Chiang Mai University in Thailand and Yonsei University in South Korea have great numbers of tourists visiting their campuses and walking through their libraries and other public areas, taking pictures of students, and disturbing their studies. 39 Some tourists love to party there late into the night, making it difficult for locals to sleep. I have three words for tourists like this: please be considerate. Have fun in a way that does not disturb others.
The number of problems from tourists is endless. The only way to solve the problem of the terrible tourist is to make sure that you are not one! 40
A. Be the best, kindest, most polite tourist possible.
B. I have three words for people like this: please stop it.
C. Another example is Sanlitun, a neighbourhood in Beijing, China.
D. Walk in large groups without considering others who need to walk by.
E. Thousands of tourist sites are being destroyed by tourists who “love them to death”.
F. One growing problem is tourists who want to prove that they have visited a destination.
G. Some tourists wander around and take pictures of local people without their permission.

A New Beginning
Ava had always been a shy girl, preferring to spend time with books rather than people. She loved spending her afternoons in the school library, where she could escape into different worlds through the pages of her favorite novels. At school, she rarely spoke to her classmates or teachers. She would sit at the back of the classroom, her head down, avoiding eye contact. Her teachers often called on her, but she would only give short, quiet answers before closing herself off again.
One day, her English teacher, Mrs. James, noticed Ava’s love for stories during a creative writing task. “Ava,” Mrs. James said after class, “I think you have a wonderful imagination. Have you ever thought about joining the drama club? We’re putting on a play next month, and I believe you’d be perfect for the lead role.”
Ava’s face turned red, and she shook her head quickly. “No, I can’t. I’m not good at speaking in front of people. I’d just embarrass myself. I’m afraid to fail.”
Mrs. James smiled gently. “I understand how you feel, but sometimes, we need to step out of our comfort zones and try new things to see how much we can grow. Just give it a try. You might surprise yourself.”
Ava hesitated but finally agreed to try out for the role. To her shock, she was chosen for the lead role. The weeks leading up to the play were filled with practice sessions. At first, Ava struggled to speak loudly enough for others to hear. Her fellow actors, however, were supportive. “You’ve got this, Ava!” one of them said during a practice. “Just imagine you’re telling a story to your friends.”
Slowly, Ava began to open up. She practiced her lines every night, and her confidence grew. On the night of the performance, she stood backstage, her hands trembling. She took a deep breath and reminded herself of Mrs. James’s words.

1.续写词数应为150左右;
As the curtains opened, Ava stepped onto the stage.

I must give this speech to my history class next week. Sharing this with you now brings me confidence. So, thanks for listening, Mom and Dad! Anyway, the subject of this speech is Yuri Gagarin, the first person to go into space. Exploring space seems somewhat normal now. But when Gagarin had his first space mission, he was trying something never done before Gagarin grew up in Russia and learned to fly planes as a teenager. In 1960, he was chosen to be part of his country’s space program. Worldwide, this was the very beginning of humans exploring beyond Earth. Countries like the U.S.A., China, France, etc., were all trying to learn more about space. One year later, Gagarin took off into space. He went around the Earth in about an hour and a half. The whole world watched, feeling so hopeful. Sadly, in 1968, Gagarin took his final mission. In 50 years since then, he has been a symbol of hope. I admire his courage most and he’ll always inspire me to be a man like him!

B 25. A 26. D 27. C

根据第二段中“Recently, when he found out that I had never heard the dawn chorus, he insisted that we meet at this unearthly hour and head for the local park.(最近,当他发现我从未听过“黎明合唱”时,他坚持要我在这个非同寻常的时间见面,然后去当地的公园)”可知,是Jim的坚持让作者参与了这次活动。故选A。
根据第四段内容,特别是“Twenty minutes later the whole park is alive with the chorus, calling, singing of birds!(二十分钟后,整个公园都充满了鸟儿的歌声和叫声!)”以及“The lighter the sky becomes, the louder the birds sing, an incredible birds’ concert.(天空越亮,鸟儿唱得越响,这是一场令人难以置信的鸟儿音乐会)”可知,第四段主要描述了“黎明合唱”的生动场景。故选D。
根据倒数第二段中“in fact they’re hungry but they need to do two things. One is to defend their territory and the other is to find a female — by singing they can achieve both.(事实上它们很饿,但它们需要做两件事。一是保卫自己的领地,二是找一只雌鸟——通过唱歌,它们可以同时实现这两个目标)”可知,根据Jim的说法,鸟儿在黎明时唱歌是为了保卫领地和吸引配偶。故选C。

C 29. A 30. B 31. C
根据第三段“On a normal (正常的) day the cameras placed around Yanachaga National Park record between 5 and 15 animals. But in the 23 days before the earthquake, the number of animals dropped to five or fewer per day. No animals were photographed at all on five of the seven days immediately before the quake.(在正常的一天,放置在亚纳查加国家公园周围的摄像机记录下了5到15只动物。但在地震前的23天里,动物的数量下降到每天5只或更少。在地震发生前的7天里,有5天没有拍到任何动物)”可知,在地震前后摄像机捕捉到的动物的图像的数量是有所变化的。由此可知,科学家通过分析他们获得的动物图像进行这项研究的。故选C。
29. 推理判断题。根据最后一段“Scientists believe the animals were made to feel uncomfortable by the positive ions, leading them to avoid the area. They are thought to have escaped to lower ground, where the air was less ionized.(科学家认为,这些动物被正离子弄得感觉不舒服,导致它们避开该区域。它们被认为逃到了较低的地面,那里的空气电离程度较低)”可推知,海拔较低的地面电离程度较低。故选A。
根据最后一段“Scientists believe the animals were made to feel uncomfortable by the positive ions, leading them to avoid the area.(科学家认为,这些动物被正离子弄得感觉不舒服,导致它们避开该区域)”可知,动物往往对较多的正离子感到不安。故选B。
根据文章第一段“Animals appear to predict(预测) earthquakes by sensing electricity in the air — the first study to find reliable evidence of the phenomenon has shown.(动物似乎通过感知空气中的电流来预测地震,这是首个为这一现象找到可靠证据的研究)”及下文可知,文章主要介绍了一项有可靠证据的研究,动物似乎通过感应空气中的电流来预测地震。

C 33. A 34. B 35. B
根据第一段中“For a vast majority of us, our smartphones are the lifeline. If it is lost, a lot is unachievable, such as getting guided to work and ordering coffee. This sounds like a nightmare
根据第二段中“All of this arises from our growing dependence on social media and smart technologies designed to offer quick relief but often at the expense of deep, meaningful activities.(所有这一切都源于我们对社交媒体和智能技术的日益依赖,这些技术旨在提供快速的缓解,但往往是以牺牲深层次的、有意义的活动为代价的。)” 故选A。
根据最后一段中“But this doesn’t mean we should abandon comfort entirely; it’s to balance it with intentional discomfort. Think of it as small and manageable difficulties that keep our mental and emotional muscles strong, such as writing with a pen, or washing dishes by hand.”
根据文章内容,尤其是最后一段中“So, the next time you feel the pull of ease, pause. Ask yourself: Is this momentary comfort helping me grow or is it keeping me stuck? Choosing discomfort isn’t easy, but sometimes, it’s worth it.(所以,下次当你感到安逸的诱惑时,请暂停一下。问问自己:这种暂时的舒适是在帮助我成长,还是让我停滞不前?选择不适并不容易,但有时,它是值得的)”可知,文章通过讨论智能手机和数字技术对人们生活的影响,强调了适度接受不适的重要性,鼓励读者在追求舒适的同时,也要勇于面对和接受不适,以促进个人成长和抗逆力的提升。故选B。

F 37. B 38. G 39. C 40. A
36. 分析设空,位于段首,应是本段的中心句,根据后文“Tourists have used paint, rocks, or even keys to write on the Luxor Temple in Egypt, the Colosseum in Rome, Stonehenge in the UK and many, many other places.(游客们在埃及的卢克索神庙、罗马的斗兽场、英国的巨石阵和许多其他地方用颜料、石头甚至钥匙写字)”可知,游客想要证明自己来过,而破坏了景点,所以F项“One growing problem is tourists who want to prove that they have visited a destination.(一个日益严重的问题是游客想要证明他们已经参观了一个目的地)”符合本段主题,可作为本段中心句。故选F项。
37. 根据前文“Tourists have used paint, rocks, or even keys to write on the Luxor Temple in Egypt, the Colosseum in Rome, Stonehenge in the UK and many, many other places.(游客们在埃及的卢克索神庙、罗马的斗兽场、英国的巨石阵和许多其他地方用颜料、石头甚至钥匙写字)”以及后文“If you want to leave a mark on the world, do it by changing someone’s life with kindness and love.(如果你想在世界上留下印记,那就用善良和爱去改变别人的生活)”可知,空处应是过渡句,又游客的行为过渡到,作者劝诫这种行为,所以B项“I have three words for people like this: please stop it.(对于这样的人,我只有三个字:请停止)”符合文意,起到承接上下文的作用。故选B项。
38. 分析设空,位于段首句之后,应是对前句的进一步说明,根据前文“Another big problem in some places has been tourists disturbing (打扰) the local people and life.(在一些地方的另一个大问题是游客扰乱了当地的人民和生活)”可知接下来会列举一些游客扰乱了当地的人民和生活的例子,G项“Some tourists wander around and take pictures of local people without their permission.(一些游客在未经允许的情况下四处游荡并拍摄当地人的照片)”是对前文的进一步说明,符合文意。故选G项。
39. 根据前文“For example, Chiang Mai University in Thailand and Yonsei University in South Korea have great numbers of tourists visiting their campuses and walking through their libraries and other public areas, taking pictures of students, and disturbing their studies.(例如,泰国清迈大学和韩国延世大学有大量游客参观他们的校园,穿过他们的图书馆和其他公共区域,给学生拍照,干扰他们的学习)”以及后文“Some tourists love to party there late into the night, making it difficult for locals to sleep.(一些游客喜欢在那里聚会到深夜,这让当地人难以入睡)”可知,此处是在举例,后文描述的和前一个例子不搭,所以应该是另一个例子,所以C项“Another example is Sanlitun, a neighbourhood in Beijing, China.(另一个例子是中国北京的三里屯)”符合文意。故选C项。
40. 分析设空,位于段尾,是对前文的总结,根据前文“The number of problems from tourists is endless. The only way to solve the problem of the terrible tourist is to make sure that you are not one!(来自游客的问题数不胜数。解决这个问题的唯一方法就是确保你不是一个可怕的游客!)”所以下文应该是提出建议,A项“Be the best, kindest, most polite tourist possible.(尽可能做最好、最善良、最有礼貌的游客)”是对前文的总结。故选A项。

故填a。
故填which。
根据句意以及“the world’s”可知,此处应用形容词最高级修饰名词“lion dance show”。故填largest。
All the information about the project (gather) up to now, and we’re ready to start the project.
【答案】has been gathered
此句为并列句,空处在第一分句中作谓语动词,主语All the information与gather之间为被动关系,由时间状语up to now可知应用现在完成时的被动语态,information不可数,All the information作主语,助动词用单数has,故填has been gathered。
Ambitious and determined, he was the first (volunteer) for the challenging project.
【答案】to volunteer
故填to volunteer。
68.(2025高一下·河北唐山·期中) (design) for beginners, the dictionaries were quickly sold out.
Designed
She has shown enthusiasm in the (perform) of her duties.
The (perform) of the traditional dance was unforgettable.
Heated (argue) occurred when the representatives present were discussing the issues, and finally a decision was taken.
The birds, usually around 10 to 15 in number, (gather) around her before she even had a chance to take a bag of rice out of her handbag.
【答案】would gather
根据“before she even had a chance to take a bag of rice out of her handbag”可知,句子描述的是过去经常发生的一种情况,每当她准备从手提包里拿出大米时,鸟儿们总会聚集到她身边,这种情况是反复出现的。 故填would gather。
It is completely normal to struggle with the stress that parent-child (tension) create.
Susan repeated three important points in her speech, (stress) what makes a good speaker.
Smiling and laughing has proved useful to relieve (tense) and stress.

Dear Jackie,
As you know, fascinated by technology, I am eager to join our school’s drone club. However, I have encountered resistance from my parents, which has left me feeling quite distressed. Therefore, I am writing to seek your guidance and support.
What worries my parents most is the time required which they believe might affect my academic performance. Besides, they also worry that the additional activities could distract me from my studies. I understand their concerns, but I firmly believe that participating in the drone club would be a valuable experience for my personal growth and academic pursuits.
I would be grateful if you could provide any insights into this dilemma. Looking forward to your prompt reply.
Yours,

注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
As the curtains opened, Ava stepped onto the stage.

Backstage, Ava couldn’t stop smiling as she saw Mrs. James approaching her.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
As the curtains opened, Ava stepped onto the stage. When Ava began her first lines, her voice was soft but clear. As the play went on, she became less nervous. She moved across the stage with ease, her voice growing stronger and filled with emotion. When the play ended, there was a moment of quietness before the audience burst into loud clapping. Ava had done it — she had faced her fear and succeeded! At the moment, the first thing that came to her mind was to thank Mrs. James.
Backstage, Ava couldn’t stop smiling as she saw Mrs. James approaching her. She thanked Mrs. James. “You believed in me when I was unsure of myself,” Ava said. Mrs. James smiled and replied, “You did this all on your own. I just gave you a little push.” For the first time, Ava felt proud of herself. She realized that trying something new had allowed her to discover a part of herself she never knew existed. The fear of failure no longer held her back, and she knew this was just the beginning of many more opportunities to come.
