专题01 阅读理解 应用文 1.(23-24高二下·山东威海·期末) 2024 Youth Design Challenge (YDC) saw remarkable participation from across the world. The winners have offered unique, nature-inspired ideas to solve local design challenges. Green Buoy (浮标) Oyster farming in South Korea is an industry that contributes to microplastic pollution in the ocean through the breakdown of buoys. Team Design Matter from Seoul created Green Buoy, which is made from a material that breaks down naturally, removing the risk of microplastic pollution and promoting sustainable marine farming. The team took inspiration from a water plant, mimicking its dome-shaped air pockets to provide buoyancy. They designed the buoy connector modules by studying the way that seahorses use their tails to hold firmly onto coral reefs. The Beenard’s Canopy Access to clean and affordable drinking water is still not a universal reality, particularly in South Sudan. Team A Squared from Beijing designed the Beenard’s Canopy. Inspired by the Namib Beetle, Moloch Lizard, and the Desert Rattlesnake, their device gathers the dew in the air, channels the collected water through a filter (过滤器) , and stores the water in a container for drinking purpose. The idea addresses the problem of lack of access to clean water by providing an economically practical solution. Rain Net In recent years, extreme weather has caused severe flooding in California, and yet, for most of this team’s life, California has been in a drought. Addressing both problems at once, the team designed a rain catchment device, Rain Net. Inspired by how plants move water and the patterns of leaf veins, the Rain Net has got inspiration from the xylem (木质部) in plants, in its design of tubes that guide, collect, and filter rainwater. The invention could be adapted to fit various roofs and the design makes it possible to connect various “nets,” allowing for more than one drainage (排水) system. 1.What problem did Team Design Matter intend to solve? A.Coral reef damage. B.Microplastic pollution. C.Marine diversity loss. D.Low oyster production. 2.What inspired the solution to urban flooding? A.Desert creatures. B.The shapes of leaves. C.Water movement in plants. D.The network of plant roots. 3.What is the purpose of the passage? A.To promote YDC program. B.To introduce the 2024 YDC winners. C.To advertise nature-inspired designs. D.To explain the concept of biomimicry. 【答案】1.B 2.C 3.B 【导语】本文是应用文。介绍了2024年青年设计挑战赛(YDC)的获奖者及其设计作品,这些作品通过模仿自然界的设计来解决当地的设计挑战。 1.细节理解题。根据“Green Buoy (浮标)”中的“Oyster farming in South Korea is an industry that contributes to microplastic pollution in the ocean through the breakdown of buoys. First, Gottlieb introduces us to four of her patients, taking us inside the room to show us what happens. But Gottlieb is also in therapy (治疗) herself, thanks to a sudden breakup, and through her eyes, we get the patient’s perspective as well. As I followed their progress, something caught my eye: two macaws, flying away like crazy. After we landed, I found macaw feathers, yellow and blue, hanging on a string from a pole in the camp. Cabral shook his head and said that the miners must have hunted and eaten the bird, “The animals Die a silent death,” he said mournfully. For a public servant, Cabral is unusually outspoken — at least on Instagram, where his account is devoted to strongly criticizing animal cruelty. At the camp, Finger told Cabral that he had found signs of an active site deeper in the forest. We followed him, moving silently along a path through the woods. As we advanced, we could hear a dog barking. There in a clearing was a wooden hut, abandoned except for a black dog, yowling miserably. Then we heard a strange noise from a box next to the hut. Cabral lifted a plastic cover, revealing a mass of puppies, just a few days old. He picked up a couple and held them, then walked to a shelf where the miners had been drying wildlife meat. He threw a piece to the mother dog, which began wolfing it. Early in his career, Cabral acquired the nickname Rambo, but it seemed mostly like a joke. He had taken up armed patrols (巡逻) only in service of wildlife conservation, his lifelong passion. He came from Juiz de Fora, a city in Brazil’s central part, and spent his childhood immersed in nature, watching wildlife programs and reading about animals. “This is all I ever wanted to do,” he told me. He earned a degree in biology and another in ecology, then joined IBAMA, a branch of the environment ministry that protects threatened ecosystems. In 2013, Cabral secured approval to build a unit of rangers (护林员) who were committed to saving the environment, by force if necessary. 1.Why did the miners get so panicked that they ran into the forest? A.Because they mined illegally. B.Because they mistook “us” as invaders. C.Because they killed animals cruelly. D.Because they camped without permission. 2.What was Cabral’s career? A.Fighting against evils like Rambo. B.Protecting wildlife, by force if necessary. C.Volunteering in service of wildlife conservation. D.Filming wildlife programs in nature. 3.What do we know about IMAMA? A.It centered on wildlife protection. B.It originally built a unit of armed rangers. C.It was co-founded by Cabral. D.It worked as branch of a non-profit organization. 4.Which can best describe Cabral? A.Passionate and devoted. B.Smart and straightforward. C.Cooperative and courageous. D.Intelligent and knowledgeable. 【答案】1.C 2.B 3.A 4.A 【导语】本文是一篇记叙文,主要讲述了Cabral为保护野生动物,对非法矿工进行打击的故事。 1.推理判断题。根据第一段“Cabral shook his head and said that the miners must have hunted and eaten the bird, “The animals Die a silent death,” he said mournfully.”(卡布拉尔摇了摇头,说矿工们一定是猎杀并吃掉了这只鸟。“这些动物无声地死去了,”他悲伤地说。)可推知,矿工们惊慌跑进了森林因为他们残忍地杀害动物。故选C。 2.细节理解题。根据文章最后一段“He earned a degree in biology and another in ecology, then joined IBAMA, a branch of the environment ministry that protects threatened ecosystems. She didn’t go out that day to help save a pet—or a person. But that’s what happened when she found a lost cat named Tucker and closed a 600-mile gap to return him to his owner, McCall. Tucker’s adventure began in early November 2022,when McCall spent the night in a hotel in the tiny town of Cleveland. The retired electrician was driving from Florida to Michigan to visit a sick relative. Her budget was tight, and her head was full of questions. In the previous two years, McCall had lost her husband to cancer, and their grandson to violence. And a workplace accident had left McCall partially disabled. But even as everything changed around her, the future held one certainty: she’d have her two cats, Tucker and the 20-pounder she calls Fat Cat. The companionship and the routine of having to care for the animals were a lifeline when all else was turned upside down. McCall planned to spend the night in Cleveland and drive on. When McCall returned from breakfast the next morning, ready to pack up and hit the road again, Tucker was gone from her hotel room. Panicked, she searched along the busy road for hours, but he was nowhere to be found. She couldn’t afford to stay another night. Heartbroken, she got in her car and got back on the interstate, The next day, Lillard went to wash the back windows of her shop, just down the road across from the hotel where McCall had stayed. The moment she spotted Tucker, she knew he wasn’t one of the usual strays—he trotted (小跑) straight to her and looked well fed. Lillard took Tucker home, and posted his story in a lost-pet Facebook group. McCall, too, had been posting about Tucker. Within hours, someone made the connection, and soon McCall was on the phone with Lillard, hearing Tucker’s cries and sobbing with relief. McCall’s luck was changing. Lillard’s grandfather was planning a trip to Michigan, and Lillard was happy to shelter Tucker until the cat could take a ride with him. One month later, Tucker was hand-delivered to McCall’s doorstep and reunited with her in the presence of Lillard, whom the misty-eyed owner couldn’t thank too much. 1.What do we know about McCall from paragraph 2? A.She lived alone for two whole years. B.She retired as an electrician because of her age. C.She was moving to live with his relative in Michigan. D.She was seeking comfort from the company of her two pets. 2.Why didn’t McCall spend more time looking for Tucker? A.Because her schedule was extremely tight. B.Because she was short of money. C.Because her relative’s condition was worsening. D.Because she had had enough of Tucker. 3.What is the fourth paragraph mainly about? A.How McCall had Tucker lost. B.How much McCall missed Tucker. C.How McCall got reconnected to Tucker. D.How Lillard got in touch with McCall. 4.Who probably delivered Tucker to McCall in person? A.Lillard. B.Lillard’s grandfather. C.An animal rescuer. It started as a way for Isla to fulfill the volunteering requirements for her Duke of Edinburgh Silver Award but grew into an activity for the whole family. Mrs Jourdain and her husband have lost friends and family to cancer, which played a key role in them wanting to partake in the project. “Now every Sunday evening, I say ‘postcards, people’ and we all sit down around the kitchen table and write together. We thought it would be a nice way to boost the patients’ spirits,” Mrs Jourdain said. She thought it was nice because they had got such a range of ages between them, so it was quite a variety of things that they wrote about or if they were all writing about the same thing, it was done in different ways. “Sometimes we may write about something that we have attended. For example, last weekend, Isla went to see the Royal Shakespeare Company’s performance of A Midsummer Night’s Dream and she wrote about that. Sometimes it's more about the gardening and the weather and we may comment on the art or people on the postcard we are writing on. The postcards are given to the charity From Me to You as part of its “donate a letter” scheme, which sees them read by the charity, filtered, repackaged and delivered to hospitals, cancer centres or individuals at home. Mrs Jourdain said she hopes to “inspire” others to take part. “It’s so simple, but can have such an impact and I just think we need to reignite the love of a letter,” she said. “Something handwritten is so lovely and personal and cannot be replicated (复制) in an email or text.” 1.What is the main reason for the Jourdains to join the activity? A.To inspire others to write letters. B.To raise money for cancer patients. C.To fulfill the volunteering requirements D.To uplift people suffering from diseases 2.What can we learn about the postcards? A.They are sent to patients after a process B.They are attached to volunteers' donations C.They are mainly about art in different ways. D.The content focuses on the patients' daily life. 3.What does the underlined word “reignite” mean in the last paragraph? A.Relight. B.Extend. C.Respond. D.Estimate. 4.What can be a suitable title for the text? A.Fulfilling a Dream of Patients with Postcards B.Messages in Postcards Inspire a Little Writer C.Putting Smiles on Faces of Patients with Postcards D.Simple Words in Postcards Impact the Whole World 【答案】1.D 2.A 3.A 4.C 【导语】这是一篇记叙文。文章主要介绍了Jourdain一家写明信片给病人加油鼓劲的活动,希望以此给病人带去笑容。 1.细节理解题。 根据第二段的“Mrs Jourdain and her husband have lost friends and family to cancer, which played a key role in them wanting to partake in the project. “Now every Sunday evening, I say ‘postcards, people’ and we all sit down around the kitchen table and write together. We thought it would be a nice way to boost the patients’ spirits,” Mrs Jourdain said.(Jourdain夫人和她的丈夫因癌症失去了朋友和家人,这成为他们想要参与这个项目的关键原因。“现在每个周日晚上,我都会说‘写明信片的时间到了,大家’,然后我们全家人会围坐在厨房的桌子旁一起写明信片。我们认为这是提升患者情绪的一个很好的方式,”Jourdain夫人说道)”可知,Jourdain一家参与这项活动的主要原因是希望提振遭受疾病困扰的人们的精神。故选D。 2.细节理解题。 根据第四段的“The postcards are given to the charity From Me to You as part of its “donate a letter” scheme, which sees them read by the charity, filtered, repackaged and delivered to hospitals, cancer centres or individuals at home.(这些明信片是作为“From Me to You”慈善机构的“捐一封信”计划的一部分而赠送的。在这个计划下,明信片会被慈善机构阅读、筛选、重新包装,然后送到医院、癌症中心或在家中的个人手中)” 可知,明信片在经过一系列的处理后被送到患者手中。故选A。 3.词句猜测题。根据最后一段的“Mrs Jourdain said she hopes to “inspire” others to take part. “It’s so simple, but can have such an impact(Jourdain女士表示,她希望“激励”其他人参与其中。“这很简单,但可以产生如此大的影响”)”以及“Something handwritten is so lovely and personal and cannot be replicated (复制) in an email or text.(手写的东西是如此可爱和个性化,无法在电子邮件或文本中复制)”可知,手写的东西很可爱和个性化,无法用电子邮件或短信替代,作者认为需要重新激发人们对书信的热爱。所以划线单词“reignite”的意思为“重新点燃”。故选A。 4.主旨大意题。根据第一段“The Jourdain family — Lydia, 44, husband Ben, 51, their daughters Isla, 14, and Alyssa, 11— began writing postcards in September to cheer patients up.(Jourdain一家——44岁的Lydia、51岁的丈夫Ben、14岁的女儿Isla和11岁的Alyssa——从9月开始写明信片,让病人振作起来)”以及全文可知,文章主要介绍了Jourdain一家写明信片给病人加油鼓劲的活动,希望以此给病人带去笑容。所以“用明信片让患者脸上露出笑容”适合作本文的标题。故选C。 5.(23-24高二下·山东聊城·期末) Katalin Kariku along with her colleague Drew Weissman won the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 2023 for the development of mRNA technology. Kariku was born in January 1955, in a small village in Hungary. She had an ambition from early on to become a scientist. As a young adult, she became interested in messenger RNA, which carries DNA instructions to the protein-making engine of cells. She hoped that mRNA could play a key role in the treatment of various diseases. It became her mission to make her dream a reality to help cure patients. However, Kariku faced a shortage of funding for her research in her country, and she then faced the choice of stopping and doing something not connected to her mission or continuing her research at the price of having to leave her country. After searching for posts and scholarships worldwide, Kariku accepted an offer from Temple University in Philadelphia for a postdoctoral fellowship. Kariku and her husband gave up everything they had in their homeland and bought a one-way ticket to the U. S., where they knew no one. She was initially on track to become a full professor but received repeated fund rejections. Undeterred by the problems and challenges, she chose to continue her research. By focusing on what mattered to her every day, she “accidentally” met her work partner Dre w Weissman who was also interested in mRNA.They teamed up to work on mRNA and published papers about their groundbreaking discovery for years. Then the pandemic hit the world. The changed mRNA technology Kariku and Weissman invented was then used in vaccines (疫苗) that prevented the infection effectively. Kariku’s life is a testament (证明) to finding one’s passion and then pursuing it every single day. Many of us know what we are fond of, but we are not good self-motivators on a daily basis. 1.What can we learn about Kariku from paragraph 2? A.She had a tolerant mind. B.She longed to be a doctor. C.She was fond of world tours. D.She had a clear sense of purpose. 2.What does the underlined part “Undeterred by” in paragraph 4 probably mean? A.Not discouraged by. B.Being unaware of. C.Not motivated by. D.Being ashamed of. 3.What is probably the main contribution of Kariku? A.Simplifying the mRNA technology. B.Making the structure of mRNA clear. C.Developing a vaccine for a serious disease. D.Laying the groundwork for mRNA vaccines. 4.What lesson can we learn from Kariku’s success? A.Nothing seek, nothing find. B.Two heads are better than one. C.Where there’s a will, there’s a way. D.Necessity is the mother of invention. 【答案】1.D 2.A 3.D 4.C 【导语】这是一篇记叙文。文章主要介绍了科学家Katalin Kariku的个人经历以及对梦想不懈追求,最终取得成功。 1.细节理解题。根据第二段“She had an ambition from early on to become a scientist. He was fascinated by the cover of the first novel from Peter Brown’s middle-grade trilogy (三部曲) . He then finished it in just two days. “Dad, why did The Wild Robot have to be so sad?” He tearfully asked me. I picked up the book myself. The story is set on a remote island, where a robot named Roz leans to survive and communicate with the island’s creatures, and becomes part of the community. For my son, it was the first book he discovered on his own; the first to impact him with the mix of sadness and joy. When I finished the book, I knew why Henry loved it. In our book club discussion, he described how Brown’s pictures and words had made the story feel real. When talking about its final scenes, where Roz leaves to find repairs for her injured body, Henry cried again. His previous reading experiences had cheerful, “happily-ever-after” endings, but this book introduced him to the beauty of complex emotions. I tried to explain how sadness can enhance the meaning of happy moments, but failed to fully convince him. Once our discussion ended, Henry requested to buy The Wild Robot Escapes and instantly fell in love with it. He read the first two books repeatedly, so you can imagine his excitement when we finally got a copy of The Wild Robot Protects. We both agree it is worth the wait. Roz leaves the island again to stop an underwater threat for several continents: “the poison tide.” Brown expertly balances between breathtaking adventure and unsettling ideas — not just happiness and sadness, but also, hope and disappointment, given the climate-change effect. And, here’s something special about Roz: her physical clumsiness and confusion about life, conveyed through her expressive eyes and downturned mouth. Her story reflects the challenges of surviving in a strange place, much like a child’s journey. Readers love Roz. They learn from her. Even better, they learn alongside her. Roz gave Henry the power to push through the first book’s sad parts, getting him ready to appreciate that, sometimes, sadness isn’t a bad thing to feel. 1.What drove the author to read The Wild Robot? A.Its interesting characters and ending. B.Henry’s personal recommendation. C.Henry’s emotional reaction to it. D.Its attractive well-designed cover. 2.What is one theme of The Wild Robot Protects? A.Family and community. B.Man-robot relationship. C.Exploration of the deep sea. D.Worries of global issues. 3.What makes Roz in the trilogy special? A.Her struggling experiences. B.Her robotic power. C.Her childlike expressions. D.Her adventurous spirit. 4.Which message does this text seem to communicate? A.Misfortune highlights great art works. B.Reading inspires children’s personal growth. C.Book series interest both adults and kids. D.Robot stories find their own way to children. 【答案】1.C 2.D 3.A 4.B 【导语】这是一篇记叙文。文章主要讲述了作者的儿子阅读了《荒岛机器人》后,被故事内容所打动。于是作者也阅读了这本书,并感悟到悲伤如何能增强快乐时刻的意义以及悲伤也可以让人成长。 1.细节理解题。根据第一段““Dad, why did The Wild Robot have to be so sad?” He tearfully asked me.(“爸爸,为什么《荒岛机器人》读起来这么悲伤?”他含泪问我)”以及第三段“When I finished the book, I knew why Henry loved it.(当我读完这本书的时候,我知道亨利为什么喜欢它了)”可知,亨利对此的情绪反应促使作者阅读《荒岛机器人》。故选C。 2.推理判断题。根据倒数第三段“He read the first two books repeatedly, so you can imagine his excitement when we finally got a copy of The Wild Robot Protects.(反复阅读了前两本书,所以你可以想象当我们终于得到《荒野机器人的保护》时他的兴奋)”和倒数第二段“Brown expertly balances between breathtaking adventure and unsettling ideas — not just happiness and sadness, but also, hope and disappointment, given the climate-change effect.(布朗熟练地在惊险的冒险和令人不安的想法之间取得平衡——不仅是快乐和悲伤,而且考虑到气候变化的影响,还有希望和绝望)”可知,The Wild Robot Protects的主题是对全球问题的关注。故选D。 3.细节理解题。根据最后一段“And, here’s something special about Roz: her physical clumsiness and confusion about life, conveyed through her expressive eyes and downturned mouth. Born and raised in Boston, Griffith started her journey into Chinese culture nine years ago, when she began learning Chinese for its writing system and tones. While learning Chinese, she was captivated by traditional Chinese music in a drama she was watching. Griffith did some research and discovered that the instrument she was drawn to was the pipa. “I like the sound of the pipa, especially the techniques that are incorporated with it,” Griffith says, adding that her parents and friends have been very supportive of her learning Chinese traditional music. Griffith’s father helped her discover the instrument and she found her first pipa teacher, who was part of the Boston Chinese Ensemble. Sometimes, after performances, people would tell her, “I’ve never seen a non-Chinese person play this before. That’s very cool.” Last semester, Griffith studied at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing. Learning the pipa in the city, where “Chinese music is happening”, Griffith felt pushed beyond her comfort zone and learned more about her passion. “There was an interesting lecture that talked about how most Chinese music emulates things in calligraphy. There’s a lot of empty space, and I can now incorporate that feeling into a lot of the music I play,” she says. “Chinese music also emulates nature in a way. The sound it makes can resemble a horse; you can visualize it. There are many techniques not seen in Western instruments, such as bending the strings or using your five fingers to create a tremolo. I enjoy telling my friends about it,” she says. Griffith’s friends, who were amazed by her impressions, started attending more Chinese music concerts, wanting to learn more. Diving into another culture through music makes Griffith value the culture more. She said, “When you learn about a different type of music, it makes you appreciate the culture more. It makes you realize how important it is to be open-minded. I feel more open-minded about why things are the way they are.” 1.How did Griffith begin to learn the pipa? A.Inspired by her Asian studies. B.Influenced by her friends. C.Attracted by its unique sound. D.Encouraged by her father. 2.What do some people think of Griffith’s pipa playing? A.Amazing. B.Odd. C.Shocking. D.Curious. 3.Why does Griffith mention the calligraphy in Paragraph 6? A.To explain the Chinese writing system. B.To display its link with Chinese music. C.To show different forms of Chinese arts. D.To explore the origin of Chinese music. 4.What benefit does Griffith get from learning Chinese music? A.It has promoted her Chinese learning. B.It makes her abandon western music. C.It has developed her critical thinking. D.It makes her love Chinese culture more. 【答案】1.C 2.A 3.B 4.D 【导语】本文是一篇记叙文,主要讲述了Kendall Griffith,一位Bard College的学生,如何通过学习和演奏中国传统乐器琵琶,深入了解和体验中国文化的故事。 1.推理判断题。根据第三段“I like the sound of the pipa, especially the techniques that are incorporated with it(我喜欢琵琶的声音,尤其是其中的技巧)”可知,Griffith被琵琶独特的声音吸引,所以才开始学习琵琶。故选C。 2.推理判断题。根据第四段“I’ve never seen a non-Chinese person play this before. 2.(23-24高二下·山东德州·期末) Our Top Picks of Victoria AttractionsVictoria Butterfly Gardens Admission You'll be able to walk around the scenic park, discover tropical plants and animals and enjoy guided explanations. I hope you find a title that helps you slow down, breathe deep, and take a well-deserved reading break. Tell Me More I want everyone I know to read it, and well never exhaust the discussion topics it presents. Kelly talks in depth about how after her friend Liz was diagnosed with cancer, they both pushed past the surface stuff to form a powerful and lasting friendship. This book will make you want to be a better friend, and also give you insight into how. Maybe You Should Talk to Someone I’ve reread this book countless times, as Gottlieb gets to the heart of what matters in life. She explores human nature through the lens (镜头) of psychotherapy. First, Gottlieb introduces us to four of her patients, taking us inside the room to show us what happens. But Gottlieb is also in therapy (治疗) herself, thanks to a sudden breakup, and through her eyes, we get the patient’s perspective as well. Don’t Overthink It Nobody wants to live a life of constant overthinking, but it feels like something we’re very ready to do. In Don’t Overthink It, you’ll find actionable strategies that can make an immediate and lasting difference in how you deal with questions both large and small. Breath It seems simple: along, deep breath makes you feel better when you’re stressed. But what if we’re not breathing correctly from moment to moment? Combining stories with scientific research, Journalist James Nestor crafts a convincing case for paying closer attention to our breath and adding corrective measures. 2.(23-24高二下·山东东营·期末) Holly Lillard went outside just to wash the windows. C.How McCall got reconnected to Tucker. D.How Lillard got in touch with McCall. 4.Who probably delivered Tucker to McCall in person? A.Lillard. B.Lillard’s grandfather. C.An animal rescuer. D.The lost-pet Facebook group. 3.(23-24高二下·山东德州·期末) They had a combined age of 155 years when they took the p lunge into internet dating. Now married, 85 and 86-year-old Gill and John live in York.
