She checks the weather forecast, lays out her running clothes, puts her running shoes by the front door, charges her cell phone and flashlight, and sets the alarm for 4 a.m.. By 4:15 a.m., she’s out the door — rain or shine. “I’m just an ordinary person doing extraordinary things,” says Ryvar, a single mother of three who runs her own cleaning business in normal daytime hours and pounds the streets, paths and trails of. North Wales at a time when the rest of the world would typically be asleep. The 43-year-old Ryvar took up running in 2020 and four years later, she is a world record holder for consecutive half-marathons and an inspiration to many, all while raising money for her favorite charities. It is more, she says, about building a strong mindset and getting to know her body. “I found doing it every day, you just get used to it,” she said. “Your body and mind just get used to the routine and you turn off that pity party that you had with yourself and get on with it.” “Keep accountable somehow — you’ll build up confidence in yourself and you’ll want to push more,” she said. “Form a habit. If you’re not comfortable doing it by yourself, join a group. There are loads of online groups, or join a park run. Sign up for a race and commit! When you have a goal, it makes a massive difference.” In the meantime, she is just happy to have that “nice fuzzy feeling inside” whenever she goes running and to be changing people’s lives with the money she raises for Cancer Research UK. Her new hobby is also allowing her to see the world, having had trips in recent months to Jordan, Turkey and Malta — where she was on national television. “I’m definitely riding a wave and getting a lot of support,” Ryvar says. “It’s something you can’t buy. It’s such a sense of satisfaction.” 24. What does Helen Ryvar primarily credit her success in running to? A. Her natural talent for running. B. Her strong mindset and routine. C. Her participation in many races. D. Her family and friends’ support. 25. What is the most important factor in building a habit according to Helen Ryvar? A. Being responsible and setting goals. B. Having a supportive group of runners. C. Keeping a consistent running schedule. D. Running in different locations and environments. 26. What additional benefit does Helen Ryvar gain from her running habit? A. Sparing more time to spend with her children. B. Forming a new social circle of runners. C. Collecting money for charities. D. Austria’s state railway ÖBB, which has been leading the revival of overnight services in recent years, has launched a new 33-strong fleet of night trains, which will debut (首次亮相) in December. Among the better all-round service, one thing stands out: a focus on solo (单独的) travelers, with the new trains containing pod-like single berths (卧铺) , as well as standard couchettes (beds in a train that can either be folded away or used as ordinary seats during the day) and sleeping cars. The seven-carriage trains will each have a capacity of 254 passengers, and will be composed of two seating cars, three couchettes and two sleeping cars. And they look set to get a major upgrade on traditionally spartan sleeper trains. In the sleeping cars, all compartments will have their own bathroom, including a shower. Beds will be fixed, which ÖBB promises will make them more comfortable. And there will be more space for large luggage, including sports equipment, strollers and six spots for bikes. The real innovation lies in the “Mini Cabins”—pod-like single berths in the couchette cars, piled on top of each other in two layers, like a dormitory in which each person can seal off their private space. Solo travelers will get their privacy, along with a tight but does-the-job space, with a mirror in the foldaway breakfast table, reading lamp, storage area and lockers for shoes and handbags. Leonore Gewessler, Austria’s minister for climate action, said the new trains “make it clear that the future of short and medium-distance travel belongs to the train.” “Taking the train means protecting the climate. This is particularly true for night trains. That’s why we are working together to further expand the European night train network,” she said in a statement. 28. What is the distinctive feature of Austria’s state railway ÖBB’s new night trains? A. A more comfortable seating arrangement. B. Enhanced privacy for solo travelers. C. Larger passenger capacity. D. Improved dining services. 29. What does the underlined word “spartan” in paragraph 3 mean? A. Slow. B. Boring. C. Dirty. D. Plain. 30. What is the purpose of the “Mini Cabins” in the new trains? A. To maximize privacy and convenience. B. To offer spacious seating during the day. C. To encourage travelers to bring large luggage. D. To create a luxurious experience for passengers. 31. What does Leonore Gewessler think of the new train? A. It is time-saving. B. It is ideal for the future travel. C It is an alternative way of travel. D. It is environmentally beneficial. 28. That’s worrying because the sea ice is an important part of the Earth’s cooling system. It’s not yet clear if the low sea ice level is temporary, or part of a changing climate pattern. Every year, the sea ice at the South Pole goes through a cycle of melting and freezing. In the summer, the huge masses of sea ice melt to their smallest point. Over the colder winter months, the sea ice grows and grows until it covers an incredibly wide area. Usually, the sea ice covers the greatest area (its “maximum extent”) around September 23, as winter ends at the South Pole. Scientists have been measuring the area of the sea ice in Antarctica since 1979. For most of this time, Antarctica has seemed to be almost unaffected by the changing weather conditions experienced in other parts of the globe. In fact, until recent years, Antarctica’s sea ice area mainly set records for growing. That began to change around 2016. Now, for several years, the area of Antarctica’s sea ice has been shrinking (缩小). This year, the US National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC) reports that Antarctica’s sea ice reached its maximum extent on September 10 — almost two weeks earlier than normal. And the sea ice was at a new record low — not just by a little bit, but by a lot. The new low record has scientists worried. The sea ice is important, because it helps cool the planet. When it’s frozen, sea ice reflects sunlight back out into space. But when the sea ice melts, the water left behind is darker, and absorbs more heat. The concern is that the melting sea ice could start a cycle that might cause even more ice to melt. Scientists are working hard to better understand Antarctica. They don’t know yet if this is just a short-term problem, or if it’s part of a long-term shift toward less sea ice in Antarctica. 32. Which aspect of the low sea ice level makes scientists confused? A Its causes. B. Its effects. C. Its smallest point. D. Its changing trend. 33. What do scientists find about the sea ice in Antarctica? A. The covering area remains stable. B. The covering area once expanded. C. It’s been consistently shrinking since 1979. D. It’s been unaffected by changeable weather. 34. Why are scientists worried about the new low record of the sea ice? A. It may result in more ice melting. B. It could change the color of the sea water. C. It may get more sunlight reflected into space. D. It could cause cooler temperatures in Antarctica. 35. What is a suitable title for the text? A. Changing Climate Patterns in Antarctica B. The Threats to Earth’s Cooling System C. Antarctica’s Sea Ice at a Record Winter Low D. This corner of California was DePaolo’s favorite. Even though the 26-yearold had visited almost every part of the USA since university, DePaolo, with blond shoulder-length hair and a strong build, had been in search of adventure. He and Nelson met in a Bishop coffee shop a few years ago and bonded instantly. Nelson found they both had a lot in common and DePaolo found an older brother figure in the 38-yearold Nelson, who taught him many things like rock-climbing and where to find crystals (晶体). That morning, DePaolo, back in Bishop, found a great spot for searching rocks and wanted to show it to Nelson. After an hour and a half’s walk, they reached a rocky hillside. There were a lot of “cool rocks” in front of two huge rocks. For nearly two hours, they dug side by side. At 3 pm, Nelson stepped aside to rest while DePaolo continued digging for rocks. Suddenly, Nelson yelled, “Look out, Kevin!” A huge rock started to roll towards DePaolo, crushing (挤压) his legs into the sand. Nelson quickly put a pickaxe (鹤嘴锄) under the rock to stop it from rolling more. DePaolo was in extreme pain, his body in shock. Nelson managed to free DePaolo’s left leg. But his right leg was still trapped, and his left leg was severely injured. Nelson double-wrapped the leg with a T-shirt and his sweater, and applied pressure. He then tried his phone. Fortunately, despite being in the middle of nowhere, he got a signal. He called emergency services and told the operator where they were. Over speakerphone, the operator urged DePaolo to stay calm. DePaolo kept asking if he was going to die, and Nelson told him he wouldn’t, though he wasn’t sure himself. All they could do was wait for the rescue team, hoping DePaolo would make it out alive. As they waited, the sun began to set. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The helicopter circled above, its searchlight lighting up the two men below. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】范文 As they waited, the sun began to set. DePaolo’s breathing grew shallow, his face pale from blood loss, while Nelson kept pressure on the wound, with his hands trembling. The operator’s voice crackled over the phone, urging them to hold on-help was on the way. Finally, after what seemed like ages, the faint hum of a helicopter grew louder in the distance. Nelson’s heart leapt with hope. “They’re coming. Kevin. Just hang on a little longer,” he said excitedly. DePaolo nodded weakly, his eyes fluttering as he fought to stay conscious. The helicopter circled above, its searchlight lighting up the two men below. Nelson waved his arms frantically, and soon the rescue team was lowering a doctor to them. The doctor quickly assessed DePaolo’s condition and began stabilizing his injuries. With careful precision, they managed to lift the huge rock off DePaolo’s leg and transfer him onto a stretcher. DePaolo was rushed to the nearest hospital, where a team of doctors worked tirelessly to save his leg, with Nelson staying by his side. In the end, DePaolo’s leg was saved. Through the experience, they learned the true meaning of friendship and the power of hope in the face of adversity. 词汇激活 行为类 ①颤抖:tremble/shake ②评估:assess/evaluate ③被送往:be rushed to/be sent to 情绪类 ①激动:excitedly/in excitement ②疯狂:frantically/madly 【点睛】[高分句型1] Finally, after what seemed like ages, the faint hum of a helicopter grew louder in the distance.(由what引导宾语从句) [高分句型2] DePaolo was rushed to the nearest hospital, where a team of doctors worked tirelessly to save his leg, with Nelson staying by his side.(由where引导非限制性定语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 2025年普通高等学校招生全国统一考试模拟押题卷 英语(一) 本试卷总分150分,考试时间120分钟。 How much is the shirt? She checks the weather forecast, lays out her running clothes, puts her running shoes by the front door, charges her cell phone and flashlight, and sets the alarm for 4 a.m.. By 4:15 a.m., she’s out the door — rain or shine. “I’m just an ordinary person doing extraordinary things,” says Ryvar, a single mother of three who runs her own cleaning business in normal daytime hours and pounds the streets, paths and trails of. North Wales at a time when the rest of the world would typically be asleep. The 43-year-old Ryvar took up running in 2020 and four years later she is a world record holder for consecutive half-marathons and an inspiration to many, all while raising money for her favorite charities. C. C As Europe’s rail revolution develops rapidly, one of its major players has decided. to bring in an improved service 24/7. C. It is an alternative way of travel. D. It is environmentally beneficial. D Scientists have reported that Antarctica’s sea ice is at a record low level. A. Its causes. The Threats to Earth’s Cooling System C Antarctica’s Sea Ice at a Record Winter Low D. The Mystery of Antarctica’s Melting Sea Ice These days, digital screens are a big part of our lives. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
