Eliot prize came as a shock to American poet Peter Gizzi. “I had zero expectations,” he says. In fact, the 65-year-old says he almost cried when his name was read out for his collection Fierce Elegy. Born in Michigan in 1959, Gizzi delayed going to college and instead joined a music community in New York. As someone who didn’t grow up in a poetry-heavy background, Gizzi wasn’t surprised by some criticism. Even his personal favorites are “outsider poets”. “The poets that have influenced me are not totally unknown, but they’re definitely not big award-winning poets like Louise Glück,” said Gizzi. Poetry first came into Gizzi’s life in heartbreaking circumstances when his father died in a plane crash. It was when his brother Michael, also a noted poet, wrote a piece called Requiem in March, that made Gizzi realize the possibilities of what poetry could do. He realized poetry was the way. A light came on and he has never stopped reading since then. Many of the poems in Fierce Elegy try to grasp at what might be beyond death. For Gizzi, the elegy (挽歌) can be a tool that helps us to understand life in a deeper way. It also allows us to see the small joys that compose a life, and how those small joys are actually massive. “Joy and sorrow share a very complex ecosystem. We can’t have one without the other. As the world becomes constantly renewed, it’s also constantly dying,” he says. “I believe the elegy can take a broken heart in a fierce world and transform it into a fierce heart in a broken world.” George Oppen, an American Objectivist poet, said: “I like all the little words: tree, house, hill. These are the words in which we live. Gizzi says more by saying less. Poems are as much about what’s not there as what’s there, right?” 24. What can we infer about Gizzi from paragraph 2? A. He admired the works of famous poets. B. He preferred the traditional way of poetry. C. He took an unconventional path into poetry. D. He followed professional advice to be a poet. 25. What caused Gizzi to realize the power of poetry? A. His father’s death. B. The collection Fierce Elegy. C. His literary background. D. The poem Requiem in March. 26. How does Gizzi describe the relationship between joy and sorrow? A. They are closely connected. B. They are merely personal. C. They are constantly changing. D. They are often misunderstood. 27. What does George Oppen think of Gizzi’s poems? A. Bright and energetic. B. Formal and emotional. C. Brief and meaningful. D. Dramatic and powerful. C Imagine this: Robin walks across a college campus and sees a man fall down on the ground, coughing and crying. Will Robin stop to help? You might think it depends on Robin’s personality. However, psychologists Lee Ross and Richard Nisbett argue that the situation is more important than personality in predicting behavior. In their book The Person and the Situation, Ross and Nisbett suggest that our personalities are less important in predicting our behavior than we might think, and a powerful influence on what we do, often overlooked, is the situation. For example, in the early 1970s, psychologists John Darley and Daniel Batson conducted an experiment on 47 male students at Princeton. Each student was asked to give a speech in a nearby building and, on the way, encountered an actor who was in deep sorrow. The results showed that no personality trait (特点) could predict whether a student stopped to help. The only significant factor was whether the student was in a hurry. Only 10 percent of those in a hurry stopped, while 73 percent of those with sufficient time did. This shows that the situation matters — a point worth remembering when we judge others. Similarly, it also applies to our own attempts at personal change. Many of us make resolutions to change our ways. But often, we fail, as we imagine changing ourselves as a person, rather than changing our situation. We tell ourselves to eat better food, drink less and exercise more. But perhaps it would be better if we told ourselves to sign up for a weekly vegetable-box delivery, and join a running club that meets on Friday evenings instead of going to the pub. If you don’t want to be distracted by your phone, delete the most troublesome apps. In short, if we want to act differently, we should surround ourselves with things and people that encourage the desired behavior. By changing our situation, we might find it easier to achieve the real personal change. 28. Why does the author mention Robin in the first paragraph? A. To explain the difficulty of moral choices. B. To illustrate a feature of cautious behavior. C. To show the benefit of making resolutions. D. To introduce the topic of situational influence. 29. What matters most in predicting behavior according to the results? A. Time urgency. B. Personality traits. C. Academic background. D. Gender differences. 30. Which of the following can be a suggestion of the author? A. Promising a friend to eat healthily. B. Working with disciplined people. C. Repeating the goals aloud each night. D. Listing reasons to avoid social media. 31. What is the best title for the text? A. What Truly Shapes Our Personality. B. What Really Drives Human Behavior. C. How People Make Practical Resolutions. D. How Values Conflict in Moral Dilemmas. D Electric fish are interesting creatures that “see” their world and each other by sensing — and generating their own — electric fields. To Kanaka Rajan, a Harvard professor, these fish offer a new way to understand collective (集体的) intelligence, which means how individuals work together to achieve goals. She also believes that their special ability can inspire research in Neuro (神经) AI, a new area that studies how both living things and machines sense the world and process information. One species Rajan’s team focuses on is the elephantnose fish, which uses electric pulses (脉冲) to communicate and find its way. Despite the simplicity of their communication, these fish display cooperative behaviors, such as guiding others to food sources. By studying these interactions, researchers can better understand the nature of cooperation and competition. These insights are crucial for developing more adaptive artificial intelligence systems which can work together to solve complex problems. To further explore these ideas, Rajan’s team uses artificial models that act like elephantnose fish. These models allow them to experiment with different factors, like food availability, to see how cooperative and competing behaviors emerge in different contexts. Their research suggests that the availability of food influences how the fish interact with one another. Less reliable food sources lead to more competitive behaviors. Cooperation and competition aren’t hardwired into these artificial models. Rather, these behaviors slowly appear over many generations as the models are tested and changed. Rajan’s research bridges biology and technology, showing how natural systems can inspire new advances in artificial intelligence. Principles of collective intelligence may play an important role in how individual AI systems interact and communicate. When these systems work together as a team, they show promise for faster, more complex, and more adaptable problem-solving in tech. Only time will tell if such Al systems prove useful, but in the meantime, foundational work of this kind is casting light on how both biological and artificial systems can produce collective intelligence. 32. What is the main purpose of Rajan’s research? A. To study group cooperation ways. B. To solve AI network problems. C. To compare animals with Al systems. D. To create electric fields for robots. 33. What do we know about the elephantnose fish? A. It competes to control food sources. B. It adjusts pulses for speed control. C It uses electric signals for teamwork. D. It finds its way through visual systems. 34. What does the underlined word “hardwired” in paragraph 3 mean? A. Sent by signals. B. Fixed by design. C. Changed by surroundings. D. Programmed by computers. 35. How could Rajan’s research influence future AI systems? A. By strengthening Al sensory input systems. B. By enhancing individual Al processing speeds. C. By developing AI models with natural selection. D. By enabling AI teams to solve problems together. We all agree that critical thinking is important. ___36___ Some believe critical thinking can be applied across different contexts and taught in a general way. Others argue it can only be taught within a specific subject. There are also those who think certain skills are general, while others are specific. In schools, critical thinking is treated as a general skill taught in a broad way rather than tailored to specific subjects. The academic workload makes it challenging to be included into the curriculum, especially subject-specific skills. However, even when students learn these general critical thinking skills, research shows that they often struggle to apply them in different contexts. ___37___ So, does that mean we can’t teach it as a general skill? According to professor Tim Van Gelder, this belief is not entirely accurate. He argues that students improve their critical thinking skills faster when they learn to present their arguments in maps. ___38___ This approach is effective because it helps learners to understand the structure of arguments, making it easier for them to analyze and evaluate reasoning in various contexts. Personally, I believe thinking critically is not natural. Critical thinking is something that can be learned with life experiences and examples from the world around us. ___39___ Moreover, I believe that it is necessary to have knowledge about something before we can think critically about it. ___40___ Focus on common sense, open-mindedness, logic, generalization, correlation, causality — anything that can help students to develop critical thinking skills. Students should reflect on how their opinions form and build arguments by linking assumptions, objections, and facts. Finally, being aware of biases (偏见) is essential because they can affect how we see things, make decisions, and stay fair. A. Students need examples to support their arguments. B. However, there is no agreement on how to teach it. C. And, we need to have discipline to integrate it into our lives. D. Quick thinking is natural, but critical thinking takes more effort. E. So use visuals to link ideas, reasons, assumptions, and disagreements. F. Key elements of critical thinking should be included to teach this skill. G. It indicates different skills may be needed for different knowledge areas. Antonia Murphy has always loved water. But nothing tested our bond like the city-wide science fair. Our goal was to build a solar-powered robot that could go through a maze (迷宫) by itself. It was a big challenge, but with Benny’s strength, Rosie’s tech skills, Rascal’s brave ideas, and my planning ability, we were ready to try our best. One afternoon, we met in the science lab to see how far we had come. Despite weeks of hard work, a lot of problems remained. The biggest one was whether our robot could successfully go through a maze. “We’ve come a long way,” I said, “but we can’t relax now. We need to work harder, help each other, and stay focused.” With strong determination, we focused on the robot’s navigation (导航) system. It was our weak point, but it was also the key to winning. During one of our test runs, the robot managed to finish the maze on its own. We cheered, but Rascal quickly raised a question: “What if something goes wrong during the real competition?” His words made us realize that success in one test wasn’t enough. So we sat down and talked about every possible problem that could happen. I knew it was my job to keep everyone encouraged and on task. Benny was calm and careful with tools, Rosie was quick with finding coding bugs (编码错误), and Rascal was full of creative ideas. Talking things through like this gave us greater confidence in our teamwork. As the city-wide science fair got closer, everyone in school was getting ready. For our group, although we had passed the robot test, we were still worried about its navigation system. We felt a lot of pressure, but we were also very determined. No matter what happened, we were ready to face it together. 1. Finally, the science fair arrived. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ After we fixed the bugs, the judges were impressed by our teamwork. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 赣州市2024-2025学年度高三适应性考试 英语试卷 第一部分 听力(共两节, 满分30分) 第一节(共5小题;每小题1.5分,满分7.5分) 听下面5段对话。 What did the speakers take? But this is true of Nicholas MacMahon, who is now studying at college because he is too clever for school. Nicholas spoke well before he was one. At eighteen months he took telephone messages for his parents. At two he began to learn French. The strange thing about Nicholas is that he taught himself to read before he could speak. His parents knew immediately that he could read. When he could speak, he corrected their spelling. He tried two different schools, but he was bored and unhappy and his parents decided that he couldn’t stay there. His parents did not have enough time to prepare special lessons for Nicholas. The MacMahons had no idea what to do with him. Then the West London Institute offered to help. Nicholas spends some of his time there, and also studies at home. He reads a newspaper every day, and he can play the violin well. He doesn’t have any social life in school. Nicholas is a clever child and the teachers want to help him in every way. A SUMMER STEM PROGRAMME Designed for students aged 15-17 with a Bl+ English level, our summer program at the Faculty of Science and Technology invites you to explore the exciting world of STEM(Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). S. A His father’s death. B. The collection Fierce Elegy. C. His literary background. D. The poem Requiem in March. 26. How does Gizzi describe the relationship between joy and sorrow? A. They are closely connected. B. They are merely personal. C. They are constantly changing. D. They are often misunderstood. 27. What does George Oppen think of Gizzi’s poems? A. Bright and energetic. B. Formal and emotional. C. Brief and meaningful. D. Dramatic and powerful. C 25. D 26. A 27. 根据第二段“Born in Michigan in 1959, Gizzi delayed going to college and instead joined a music community in New York. As someone who didn’t grow up in a poetry-heavy background, Gizzi wasn’t surprised by some criticism. Even his personal favorites are “outsider poets”. “The poets that have influenced me are not totally unknown, but they’re definitely not big award-winning poets like Louise Glück,” said Gizzi.(1959 年出生于密歇根州的吉齐推迟了上大学的时间,而是加入了纽约的一个音乐社区。作为一个没有在浓厚诗歌氛围中长大的人,吉兹对一些批评并不感到惊讶, 就连他个人最喜欢的诗人也是“局外人”。对我有影响的诗人并非完全不为人知,但他们绝对不是像路易丝・格吕克那样的大奖得主)”可推知,Gizzi 走上诗歌之路的方式不同寻常,没有遵循传统路径。故选C。 【25题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段“It was when his brother Michael, also a noted poet, wrote a piece called Requiem in March, that made Gizzi realize the possibilities of what poetry could do.(正是他的兄弟迈克尔,也是一位著名的诗人,写了一首名为《三月的安魂曲》的诗,让吉齐意识到诗歌的可能性)”可知,是《三月的安魂曲》这首诗让 Gizzi 意识到诗歌的力量。 根据第四段“Joy and sorrow share a very complex ecosystem. We can’t have one without the other.(欢乐和悲伤有着非常复杂的关系。两者缺一不可)”可知,Gizzi 认为欢乐和悲伤是紧密相连的。故选A。 根据最后一段“George Oppen, an American Objectivist poet, said: “I like all the little words: tree, house, hill. These are the words in which we live. Gizzi says more by saying less. 【答案】28. D 29. A 30. B 31. B 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇说明文,主要讲述了心理学家研究发现情境因素对人类行为的影响比个性更重要,并通过实验和实例进行了论证,最后提出通过改变情境来实现个人改变的建议。 【28题详解】 推理判断题。根据第一段“However, psychologists Lee Ross and Richard Nisbett argue that the situation is more important than personality in predicting behavior.(然而,心理学家李・罗斯和理查德・尼斯比特认为,在预测行为时,情境比个性更重要)” 可知,作者提到罗宾是为了引出情境影响这一话题。故选D。 【29题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段“The only significant factor was whether the student was in a hurry. Only 10 percent of those in a hurry stopped, while 73 percent of those with sufficient time did.(唯一重要的因素是学生是否匆忙。匆忙的学生中只有 10% 停下来帮忙,而有足够时间的学生中有 73% 停下来帮忙)” 可知,在预测行为时,时间紧迫性是最重要的因素。故选A。 【30题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“In short, if we want to act differently, we should surround ourselves with things and people that encourage the desired behavior.(简而言之,如果我们想有不同的行为,我们应该让自己周围环绕着鼓励理想行为的人和事)” 可推知,作者会建议和自律的人一起工作。故选B。 【31题详解】 主旨大意题。文章开篇通过罗宾的例子引出情境对行为的影响,接着通过实验说明情境比个性更能影响行为,最后强调通过改变情境来实现个人行为的改变,所以文章主要探讨的是什么真正驱动了人类的行为。选项 B“什么真正驱动了人类行为”为最佳标题,故选B。 D Electric fish are interesting creatures that “see” their world and each other by sensing — and generating their own — electric fields. C. It uses electric signals for teamwork. 【答案】32. A 33. C 34. B 35. D 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了哈佛大学教授卡纳卡・拉詹以电鱼为研究对象,探索集体智能的相关研究。 【32题详解】 细节理解题。根据第一段“To Kanaka Rajan, a Harvard professor, these fish offer a new way to understand collective (集体的) intelligence, which means how individuals work together to achieve goals. (通过研究这些相互作用,研究人员可以更好地理解合作与竞争的本质。)”可知,Rajan研究的主要目的是研究群体合作方式。故选A。 【33题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段“One species Rajan’s team focuses on is the elephantnose fish, which uses electric pulses (脉冲) to communicate and find its way. Despite the simplicity of their communication, these fish display cooperative behaviors, such as guiding others to food sources. (Rajan的团队关注的一个物种是象鼻鱼,这种鱼利用电脉冲进行交流并找到自己的路。尽管它们的交流很简单,但这些鱼表现出合作行为,比如引导其他鱼找到食物来源。)”可知,象鼻鱼使用电信号进行团队合作,故选C。 【34题详解】 词句猜测题。根据第三段“Rather, these behaviors slowly appear over many generations as the models are tested and changed. (相反,随着模型的测试和更改,这些行为会在许多代中慢慢出现。)”可知,合作和竞争的行为不是天生固定的,而是在多代的测试和变化中慢慢出现的。“hardwired”在这里表示“固定的,天生的”,与B选项“Fixed by design (设计固定的)”意思相符。故选B。 【35题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“Principles of collective intelligence may play an important role in how individual AI systems interact and communicate. When these systems work together as a team, they show promise for faster, more complex, and more adaptable problem-solving in tech. 【答案】36. B 37. G 38. E 39. C 40. 1. 续写词数应为150个左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Finally, the science fair arrived. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ After we fixed the bugs, the judges were impressed by our teamwork. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Finally, the science fair arrived. After several presentations, it was our turn to test our solar-powered robot navigating the maze. However, it didn’t go as planned, and we were upset. Fear flooded through us, and the crowd murmured in anticipation. But we didn’t give up. Instead, Benny grabbed the toolkit, Rosie dove into the code to see if she could remotely fix it, and Rascal ran to the judges to explain what happened. I kept everyone focused. With minutes to spare before our time ran out, the robot successfully navigated through the maze without any problems. A wave of relief and joy washed over us. After we fixed the bugs, the judges were impressed by our teamwork. I felt a surge of pride, knowing that every line of code and every decision had been a team effort. When the robot finally reached the end of the maze, the hall erupted in applause. At that moment, I realized that our strength lay not just in our individual talents, but in our collective spirit. As long as we stood together, we could overcome any obstacle. And that lesson stayed with us, guiding us through future challenges, always reminding us that together, we were unstoppable. 词汇激活 行为类 ① 放弃:give up / abandon ② 讲解:explain / interpret ③ 到达:reach/arrive at/get to 情绪类 ① 不安的:upset / disturbed ② 宽慰的,放松的:a wave of relief /relaxed 【点睛】[高分句型1] Instead, Benny grabbed the toolkit, Rosie dove into the code to see if she could remotely fix it, and Rascal ran to the judges to explain what happened.(运用了what引导的宾语从句作explain的宾语) [高分句型2] With minutes to spare before our time ran out, the robot successfully navigated through the maze without any problems.
