Two blue fin tuna species, a yellow fin, and an albacore are no longer seriously endangered or have moved off the leading international list of endangered species entirely. The unexpectedly fast recovery speaks to the success of efforts over the past decade to end overfishing. But tuna are not the only species scientists are thinking carefully at the 2021 World Conservation Congress in Marseille, France, which is organized by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). Researchers warn that many other sea species continued to be imperiled. For example, more than a third of the world’s sharks are still threatened with extinction due to overfishing, habitat loss, and climate change. “I think the good news is that sustainable (可持续的) fishing industry are possible,” says Beth Polidoro, a biologist at Arizona State University. “We can eat fish without reducing the population to the point where it is on the road to dying out or extinction.” At the same time, she warns that the recovery should not encourage us to catch as many fish as we want. “We need to keep doing what’s working.” Polidoro adds. The IUCN, which determines the world’s most endangered species on its Red List of Threatened Species, also announced at the meeting that some animals are moving in the other direction, onto the Red List. Like the Komodo dragon, an lizard (蜥蜴), it is at particular risk from climate change. Of course, the work of protection is never over, and it will require close and continuous attention to make sure neither tuna nor Komodo dragons return to the edge of dying out. But for now, people can celebrate a few wins for the animal world. 1.What is the good news about tuna? A.They have been removed from the list of endangered species. B.The fishing of tuna has been put to an end completely. C.The population of some tuna species has recovered. D.The number of some tuna species increases slowly. 2.What can we learn from Beth Polidoro’s words? A.We can fish tuna as much as we want. B.Protecting tuna is a long way to go. The development and expansion of human in the forests has caused many of their native species to become endangered. Giant Panda The giant panda, one of the most recognizable endangered species, is a large, docile species of bear native to the deciduous forest of eastern China, Myanmar and Vietnam, Because of its limited diet — the panda’s main source of food is bamboo — the species is limited in its habitat to areas where bamboo is available. Now the species only can be found today in 20 small patches of forest at the western edge of its historic range. Gray and Red Wolves The gray wolf, which once ranged from the East Coast of America to the West, and south to Mexico, now has a population of only 5,000 in the lower 48 states, mostly in the Rocky Mountains. The smaller red wolf, native to the southeastern United States, was declare extinct in the wild in 1980, though conservation efforts have reintroduced small captive populations to the wild in California. Red-Crowned Crane The red-crowned crane is native to Japan, Korea an eastern China, Agricultural expansion and deforestation (森林砍伐) in these areas have removed a great deal of the marshes and forests that are the crane’s primary habitats For a time, the crane was thought to have complete disappeared from Japan, but the recent discovery of cranes in Japanese marshlands has restarted conservation efforts. Today, around 2,500 cranes live in the wild, including 1,000 in Japan. European Mink Native to Europe, the European mink ranges from France in the west to Finland in the north, Russia in the east and the Balkans in the south, Destruction of the mink’s aquatic (水的) habitat and use of the species for fur have caused dramatic drops in the species’ population, which has been reduced by 85 per cent since the mid-19th century. 1.What has caused the wild animals to become endangered? Thu husband-and-wife team were among the first people to work on protecting these buildings in China, and they are also the most well-known. Their efforts have inspired generations of people to speak out for architecture that is threatened by rapid development. Becoming China’s best architectural historians was anything but an easy task. The buildings they wanted to save were centuries old and often located in distant parts of the country. In many cases, they had to travel through dangerous areas in the Chinese countryside to reach them. During the 1930s, exploring remote areas in China meant traveling on muddy, poorly maintained roads by mule or on foot. Inns (客栈) were often dirty, food could be polluted, and there was always a risk of violence from rebels, soldiers, and robbers. Their greatest discovery was the Temple of Buddha’s Light in Wutai County, Shanxi Province. The breathtaking wooden temple was rebuilt in 857 AD, making it the oldest building known in China at the time. Liang and Lin crawled into the temple’s most forbidden, forgotten areas to determine its age. One area they explored was inhabited by thousands of bats and millions of bedbugs, covered in dust and littered with dead bats. “In complete darkness and among an awful smell, hardly breathing, with thick masks covering our noses and mouths, we measured, drew, and took pictures with flashlights for several hours. When we finally came out to take a breath of fresh air, we found hundreds of bedbugs in our bag. We ourselves had been badly bitten. However, the importance and unexpectedness of our find made those hours the happiest of my years hunting for ancient architecture.” Liang wrote about his experience in a book called Liang and Lin: Partners in Exploring Chin’s Architectural Past. 1.Why did Lin Huiyin and Liang Sicheng record ancient buildings in China? (七) The importance of festivals is documented throughout history and across almost all cultures. Festivals like Chinese New Year, Mardi Gras, Diwali, and more highlight important cultural values and heritage. Festivals like these are a meaningful and deep way to connect with our roots, reflect on personal values and experiences, and discover rituals (仪式) and practices that resonate with us. They offer individuals an opportunity to come together in celebration, strengthening our sense of belonging and unity. Additionally, festivals tend to arouse a sense of joy and appreciation for our surroundings. Often, upon entering the festival grounds, one can feel positive energy spreading. This energy is jointly created and shared among participants. It invites the possibility of happiness, relaxation, and the decrease of limits. In this space, individuals can become fully present and strengthen self-awareness. They also explore passions and interests, build relationships, and connect with their inner drive to help them keep making positive lifestyle choices. When music is included in the festival experience, participants experience many physical and psychological benefits. The American Music Therapy Association (AMTA) conducted a thorough examination of peer-reviewed research journals. The examination concludes that music is universally appealing and helps promote social, emotional, and cognitive skills across many different disability categories. Music is widely accepted as an evidence-based therapy that is known to reduce stress, increase memory, improve communication, strengthen sensory-processing and more. Additionally, there is strong potential for communities with diverse needs and backgrounds to connect through shared musical experiences. In today’s fast paced world, festival celebrations aren’t common for everyone. It is our belief that the festival experience, and built-in benefits, can be combined with daily life and community spaces. To make this happen, we can try some programs which highlight the value of inclusion while offering accessible recreational and educational experiences. 1.What is one purpose of festivals like Chinese New Year? (八) The Earth Species Project (ESP) is a U.S.-based non-profit organization dedicated to decoding (解码) animal communication using AI. Its global research team is studying the vocalization patterns (发声模式) of specific animals, such as beluga whales, crows, and zebra finches, while also developing a general “foundation model” for animal communication, similar to ChatGPT for human communication. The goal is to make it possible for humans to communicate with other species, or at least understand their communication, by 2030. According to Aza Raskin, co-founder and president of the Earth Species Project, the project is now facing challenges in its research efforts. While large language models can be trained on vast amounts of Internet data, this project must collect specific recordings from various animal species. Analyzing animal data is complicated, as distinguishing single animal vocalizations from a noisy environment is challenging. However, the organization believes that as it gathers more recordings and improves its models, clearer patterns will appear — eventually enabling us to infer “meaning” from the data based on their similarities, even without fully understanding the context behind the sounds. Gail Patricelli, an animal behavior professor at the University of California, has witnessed significant advancements in the use of machine learning in bioacoustics While she believes that ESP holds promise for improving animal communication “dictionaries”, especially for species that are hard to access, she cautioned observers against projecting human characteristics onto these animals. While technological advancements may help us better understand animal communication, we must avoid assuming that animals think or feel exactly like humans. Their behaviors and vocalizations should be interpreted based on their own behaviors, environments, and social structures. Researchers expect the research to shift humans’ understanding of our place in the natural world, which could help address biodiversity loss. Director of Impact, Jane Lawton, believes that creating an “animal language dictionary” could help develop better conservation strategies and reconnect humanity with overlooked ecosystems. For example, in Canada’s St. Lawrence River, where shipping traffic endangers beluga whales, scientists are using machine learning to decode their vocalizations, helping authorities alert boats and prevent accidents. 1.What is the purpose of the Earth Species Project? A.To build a global database of animal sounds. B.To teach animals to understand human languages. C.To enable humans to engage in cross-species communication. D.To develop a model to study animal habits with the help of AI. 2.Which of the following is a challenge Aza Raskin and his team face? A.Separating individual animal sounds from the environment. B.Training and enhancing language models with the help of AI. C.Recording interactions among animal species in natural world. D.Identifying the similarities between different animal sounds. 3.Which statement will Gail Patricelli probably agree with? A.It is challenging to study animals by using machine learning. B.Technology will allow us to communicate with animals fluently. C.Animal communication should be interpreted in each species' context. D.Human characteristics are the key to understanding animal behaviors. 4.What can we expect of creating an “animal language dictionary”? A.It will help with the protection of animal species. B.It will facilitate the discovery of new species. C.It will assist humans in managing wildlife more effectively. D.It will provide a complete translation of animal vocalizations. (九) Apple cider vinegar has long been known as a magic liquid that can do wonders for your health. To some extent, its fame is worth. Many studies have shown that apple cider vinegar can lower blood sugar levels and slightly improve cholesterol (胆固醇) levels. A few studies have shown that it might help you lose weight as it typically contains health-promoting bacteria. But there are caveats. Most of the studies on apple cider vinegar have been fairly small and, in some cases, poorly designed. So the evidence is not particularly strong or definitive, experts say. Apple cider vinegar also has the potential to cause side effects in people who are taking medication to treat type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure. Vinegar comes in many forms. It’s usually made by fermenting (发酵) corn, wheat, potatoes, grapes and a variety of other plants through a two-step process. During the first step, yeast feed on the sugars and starches in the plants, turning them into alcohol. Then bacteria convert that alcohol into acid, which gives us vinegar. Most commercial vinegar is then pasteurized, which kills its microorganisms. The best way to drink apple cider vinegar is to add it to your foods, said Kelly Springer, the owner of a nutrition company based in New York. She recommends using it in salad dressings, for example by mixing apple cider vinegar with olive oil and a little garlic powder. This is a great combination because apple cider vinegar provides probiotics while garlic is a prebiotic that feeds the beneficial bacteria in your gut, Springer said. Another option is to mix a little apple cider vinegar into a glass of water or a cup of tea. But start with a small amount, such as a teaspoon or two. And never drink it by itself because vinegar can cause tooth erosion (腐蚀) or stomach upset. “You really don’t want to take vinegar alone because it’s very acidic,” Springer said. 1.What can we infer about apple cider vinegar in paragraph 1? A.It is mainly used to treat serious diseases. B.Its benefits are based on people’s mental health. C.It has been proved to improve some health issues. D.All studies on it have reached the same conclusions. 2.What does the word “caveats” in paragraph 2 mean? A.Advantages. B.Warnings. C.Achievements. D.Methods. 3.What is paragraph 3 mainly about? A.The value of vinegar. B.The component of vinegar. C.The way of pasteurization. D.The process of vinegar production. 4.Which of the following is the most suitable title for the text? A.Apple Cider Vinegar: A Closer Look at Its Pros and Cons B.Discover the Hidden Secrets of Apple Cider Vinegar C.The All-powerful Apple Cider Vinegar in Daily Life D.Apple Cider Vinegar: Myth or Reality? (十) It may seem hard to believe, but snacking several times a day can boost your health and fitness — exercise snacking, that is. “Exercise snacks” are short bursts of activity — 30 seconds to five or 10 minutes max — that include almost any type of movement. Think climbing stairs, walking, cycling, or dancing. Today, numerous studies prove the value of these mini workouts. Performing 15-to 30-second exercise snacks three times daily was shown to improve the cardiorespiratory (心肺) fitness levels and exercise performance in inactive adults, according to a small January 2022 study published in the journal Exercise and Sport Sciences Reviews. Adults who reported they didn’t work out saw a 17% to 18% reduction in cancer cases after they began doing just 3.4 to 3.6 minutes of vigorous physical activity daily, a July 2023 study of 22,398 people found. Their daily physical activity was done in bursts lasting less than one or two minutes. Hitting 4.5 minutes (in total) of vigorous physical activity each day was linked to a 31% to 32% lower risk of cancer, according to the study published in JAMA Oncology. The benefits of movement extend to brain health, too. Doing even a small amount of moderate to vigorous physical activity every day, reduces your risk of dementia (痴呆), according to a March study in JAMDA: The Journal of the Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medical Association. Exercise snacks are a favorite tool used by Dr. Supatra Tovar, owner of Dr. Supatra Tovar& Associates. “I’m a big proponent of behavior change that starts tiny,” Tovar said. “So I like to create behaviors with my clients that are easy, accessible and doable every to most every day of the week.” “Your body is kind of lazy,” said Michael Betts, “a personal trainer and director at Train Fitness who’s based in London. Doing these little exercise snacks reminds your body that it does need to work to maintain and improve its overall function.” 1.What can be called an exercise snack according to the text? A.Singing songs with your classmates. B.Turning off the lights before leaving school. C.Jogging continuously for 20 minutes in PE class. D.Rushing from your classroom to the dining hall for lunch. 2.What is a benefit that exercise snacks bring according to the text? A.Lowering cancer risk. B.Enhancing muscle strength. C.Being kept away from dementia disease. D.Improving the heart rate of inactive adults. 3.What does the underlined word “proponent” in paragraph 5 refer to? A.Researcher. B.Critic. C.Pioneer. D.To stress the importance of daily exercise. (十一) With a love and fascination for traditional culture, many young Chinese have begun to use their creativity to innovate (创新) using elements from China’s intangible cultural heritage. Papercutting, the traditional Chinese art of paper design, has been adopted in many creative arts, including food and clothing. On the Chinese lifestyle-focused social media platform Xiaohongshu, a video of cookies featuring a paper-cut styled dragon pattern received over 2.6 million views and 130,000 likes. Liu Shan, a stay-at-home mother who loves Chinese papercutting, is the baker behind the cookies. Liu started designing her dragon pattern last November and spent five days making the cookies before the Spring Festival. She said she would complete all the 12 signs of the Chinese zodiac (生肖) since they are so well-received. Young craftswoman Chen Lingling created a cloak featuring Chinese paper-cut patterns. As an intangible cultural heritage enthusiast, Chen has made a variety of different clothing and headwear, with the aim of making cultural heritage part of young people’s daily lives. She chose auspicious patterns like phoenix and golden fish to deliver her Spring Festival greetings. People believe these patterns will bring good luck. Her video featuring the cloak has received around 750,000 views and earned her fans from both China and abroad, encouraging her to continue her interest in intangible cultural heritage. According to the new report published by Xiaohongshu, users of the platform uploaded nearly one million posts with the topic “recreation” between February 9, the Chinese New Year’s Eve, and February 16. (十二) Not all vegetables need a lot of sunlight to grow well, as James Turner and his wife have discovered through their gardening experience. They manage a bed-and-breakfast guesthouse and often serve meals made from fresh produce grown in their garden. With over twenty years of gardening experience, Mr. Turner has been experimenting with growing plants in shady areas for nearly a decade. While it’s widely known that many plants grow better in full sunlight, he has found that there are ways to grow plants successfully in areas with less sun. For example, Mr. Turner grows tomatoes near oak trees, which provide a lot of shade. Traditional gardening advice suggests that tomatoes need six to twelve hours of direct sunlight each day, but Mr. Turner has found that his tomato plants do well with just five hours of sunlight, especially in the morning. This challenges the usual advice about growing tomatoes and shows how trees and plants can share resources like water and nutrients effectively. Mr. Turner also mentions that plants with bigger leaves tend to do better in shady areas. His potatoes, for example, grow better when they are partly shaded rather than in full sunlight. By moving them into the shade, he is able to reduce an insect problem without needing to use pesticides. These potatoes are placed on the east side of the trees, where they receive sunlight in the morning but are protected from the hottest part of the day. The shade helps keep insects away, as they are most harmful during the hottest part of the day. The amount of sunlight plants receive depends on various factors, such as the time of day, the strength of the sunlight, and the shadows cast by trees or buildings. People interested in growing plants in shaded areas should also understand that “shade” can mean different levels of darkness depending on the place, which affects how well plants grow. 1.What can be inferred about Mr. Turner’s gardening approach? A.He successfully grow plants in shady area. B.He primarily grows flowers, not vegetables. C.He believes all plants need abundant sunlight. D.He recently began experimenting with shade planting. 2.What is the function of the example of tomatoes near oak trees? A.To challenge traditional gardening ideas. B.To prove oak trees are best for tomatoes. C.To recommend full sunlight for tomatoes. D.To show traditional advice is always correct. 3.What does the underlined word “pesticides” in paragraph 3 mean? A.Animals that eat insects. B.Machines for plant care. C.Chemicals to kill insects. D.Plants that attract insects. 4.What’s the main idea of the last paragraph? A.Shade can vary depending on the sunlight. B.Different plants need different amounts of shade. C.Sunlight affects plant growth only in the morning. D.Factors like time and shadows affect sunlight exposure. (十三) Brown bears have been part of my life for as long as I can remember. In their 20s, my parents spent their summers running one of Alaska’s first brown bear viewing camps in the Katmai National Park. Brown bears were respected in our household, and we regarded them as individuals with their own personalities. My parents’ five years as bear guides, in the mid-1980s, took place during a key change in Alaska, where brown bear tourism had previously been hunting. Biologists were learning to read brown bears’ behavior, challenging longtime ideas that bears were unpredictable They discovered that if humans behaved equally predictably — by limiting visitors to small guided groups, respecting the bears’ behavior and space, and never feeding the animals human food — the bears could accept the human presence over time. The bear guides learned the lesson the hard way when a door once blew open to a summer house where some fruit had been left on a table. After a bear got in, it ate up everything and sat on the floor for days, wanting more. The memories that stand out most were the bears’ unbelievable weakness and trust in humans: a female bear chose to nurse its babies in front of my camera; a bear got close to my father and me so it could take a rest beside us in the shade. What I didn’t realize as a child was that such moments could take place only because of how the land was protected and managed. One of the greatest dangers to brown bears is losing their homes in nature. Around the world, brown bears now live in just 2% of the places they used to live. Almost all of America’s remaining brown bears make their home in Alaska. Katmai’s huge, untouched wilderness is very special — one bear might travel over 50 miles every summer just to find food for winter. It’s hard to understand why protecting this land is so important — until you see a mother bear with her baby with your own eyes. 1.What was the main change in Alaska’s brown bear tourism during the 1980s? From pollinators like bees to predators like tigers, each organism contributes to the balance of nature. The extinction of a single species can cause a domino effect, upsetting food chains and ecosystems. For instance, the decline of bees has already threatened global food supply, as they are essential for pollinating crops. Protecting wildlife, therefore, is not just about saving animals; it is about preserving the complex web of life that sustains us all. Beyond their ecological roles, wild animals and plants have intrinsic value. They are not merely resources for human exploitation but living beings with their own right to exist. Philosophers like Peter Singer have argued that sentient animals deserve moral consideration because they can experience suffering. Similarly, the destruction of habitats for economic gain often disregards the rights of original communities who depend on these ecosystems. Conservation, in this sense, is a matter of justice — for both wildlife and marginalized human populations. The consequences of failing to protect wildlife are disastrous. Deforestation, poaching, and climate change have already driven countless species to extinction. The loss of biodiversity not only lessens the beauty and richness of our planet but also weakens the flexibility of ecosystems. For example, coral reefs, which are home to 25% of marine life, are dying due to ocean acidification and rising temperatures. Their collapse would devastate marine biodiversity and the livelihoods of millions who depend on fishing. Addressing these challenges requires a multi-layered approach. Governments must enforce stricter laws against poaching and habitat destruction. International cooperation is essential to fight illegal wildlife trade and climate change. On an individual level, we can support conservation organizations, reduce our carbon footprint, and make sustainable choices in our daily lives. Education also plays a crucial role; by raising awareness about the importance of wildlife, we can inspire future generations to become advocates for the planet. The protection of wildlife is not a luxury but a necessity. It is a testament to our ability to coexist with nature and a reflection of our moral obligation. As the dominant species on Earth, we have the power—an a the responsibility —to ensure that future generations inherit a world packed with life, diversity, and beauty. Let’s act now, not out of fear, but out of respect for the complicated and wondrous tapestry(织锦) of life that surrounds us. 1.According to the text, what role do bees play in the ecosystem? A.They are indicators of climate change. B.They upset food chains. C.They are essential for ensuring food output. D.They are predators maintaining the nature balance. 2.What does the underlined word “sentient” in paragraph 2 mean? A.Able to think logically. B.Sensitive to pain. C.Highly adaptable. D.Closely dependent on humans. 3.Why is coral feel mentioned in the passage? A.To highlight the complexity of its ecosystem. B.To stress ocean temperature’s importance. C.To prove biodiversity loss’s disastrous results. D.To introduce new marine conservation ways. 4.What is the main idea of the passage? A.The importance and means of wildlife conservation. B.The impact and challenges of human progress on wildlife. C.The moral obligation of protecting wildlife. D.The factors contributing to the loss of biodiversity. (十五) Every day at sunrise on the small French Polynesian island of Rimatara, Tiraha Mooroa goes for a run with Koha, the dog. Koha has an important job: to sniff out (嗅出) and kill any black rats he can find. Koha is the island’s only defense against the invasive rats. Keeping the island rat-free is vital: the rats, which arrive via boats and cargo ships (货船), are the single biggest threat to native birds of the Pacific Islands, including the Rimatara lorikeet. The beautiful bird is critically endangered—only 1,500 remain in the wild, and a third of the entire population lives on tiny Rimatara island. Now, of the 118 islands in French Polynesia, Rimatara is one of only three without the rats. The lorikeet was once widespread in the South Pacific. By the 18th century, however, it had already been hunted to near extinction by the Polynesians, who prized the bird’s red feathers for making headdresses. By 1900, the island’s queen, Temaeva V, banned hunting of the birds, effectively preserving the remaining population. Since the 1990s, however, the lorikeets have faced rising threats. Socio-environmental researcher Samuel Ravatua-Smith heads up a nest observation program, launched by the conservation association Rima Ura, to better understand the lorikeet and its population decline. The program monitors all lorikeet nests on the island with Bluetooth-enabled cameras. Ravatua-Smith’s face falls as he watches the footage (镜头). “The videos confirm that after the visit of a white-tailed tropicbird, the two hatchlings are no longer in the nest. The while-tailed tropicbird may be targeting and taking over lorikeet nests because of its own habitat loss,” Ravatua-Smith says. It’s an important finding that brings Rima Ura another step closer to saving the lorikeet. This year, close to 100 new houses are set to be built to provide housing for residents in need. The clearing and construction may end up encompassing (涉及) more than half of the island. Rima Ura works to educate residents of Rimatara about how they can help protect the lorikeet, for instance encouraging locals to plant more fruit trees around their houses. Members of Rima Ura who live on the island also mark nesting trees and participate in reforestation initiatives. 1.What can we infer from Paragraph 1? A.Koha’s efforts have worked. B.Mooroa works on a cargo ship. C.More dogs are needed on Rimatara island. D.The Rimatara lorikeet’s threats are under control. 2.What was the main reason for the decline of the lorikeet’s number during the 18th century? A.Invasion of black rats. B.Habitat destruction. C.Food competition. D.Human hunting. 3.What does Ravatua-Smith discover? A.The survival rate of the lorikeet’s newborns is increasing. B.The lorikeet’s newborns are tended by other birds. C.The lorikeets lose their habitat to other birds. D.The lorikeets often stay in their nests. 4.Which measure is adopted by Rima Ura to save the Rimatara lorikeet? A.Limiting the number of tourists on the island. B.Building man-made nests for the birds on the island. C.Calling on people to stop building houses on the island. D.Uniting residents on the island to plant lorikeet-friendly trees. / 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 2024-2025学年高一下期期末考点大串讲(外研版) 专题01 阅读理解15篇 (一) 2025 Summer Art Camp for Kids Mini Masters (June 23-27) Kids become mini masters while experimenting with art media and techniques used by famous artists. C.We shouldn’t encourage tuna fishing. D.The population of tuna will reduce. 3.Why does the writer mention “the Komodo dragon” in paragraph 5? A.To introduce a topic. B.To make a comparison. C.To explain an idea. D.To give an example. 4.What is the writer’s attitude towards the recovery of the tuna species? A.Positive. B.Concerned. C.Unclear. D.Doubtful. 根据第一段“In a world on fire and underwater, scientists have announced some good news: Several important tuna (金枪鱼) species have stepped back from the edge of extinction.(在一个水深火热的世界里,科学家们宣布了一些好消息:几种重要的金枪鱼物种已经从灭绝的边缘退了回来)”和第三段“The unexpectedly fast recovery speaks to the success of efforts over the past decade to end overfishing.(出乎意料的快速复苏表明,过去十年为结束过度捕捞所做的努力取得了成功)”可知,某些濒危的金枪鱼物种从灭绝的边缘退回来,应该是这些种类的数量有所恢复。故选C项。 2. 根据第四段“At the same time, she warns that the recovery should not encourage us to catch as many fish as we want.(与此同时,她警告说,经济复苏不应鼓励我们随心所欲地捕捞鱼类)”及“We need to keep doing what’s working.(我们需要继续做有效的事情)”可知,Beth Polidoro认为虽然金枪鱼数量有所恢复,但我们不能因此随意捕捞鱼类,而是需要继续采取有效的保护措施。 根据第五段“The IUCN, which determines the world’s most endangered species on its Red List of Threatened Species, also announced at the meeting that some animals are moving in the other direction, onto the Red List. Like the Komodo dragon, an lizard (蜥蜴), it is at particular risk from climate change.(世界自然保护联盟在其濒危物种红色名录上确定了世界上最濒危的物种,该组织也在会上宣布,一些动物正朝着另一个方向前进,进入红色名录。和蜥蜴科莫多龙一样,它特别容易受到气候变化的威胁)”可知,此处the Komodo dragon是一个例子,证明有些动物走上了濒危的道路。故选D项。 4.推理判断题。根据最后一段“But for now, people can celebrate a few wins for the animal world. A.To gain fame as architects. B.To inspire younger generations. C.To protect them from destruction. D.To study their historical importance. 2.What does paragraph 2 mainly talk about? A.The challenges faced by architects in China. B.The significance of ancient Chinese buildings. C.The methods used to protect ancient buildings. D.The contributions of architects to Chinese culture. 3.What did Liang think of his exploration of the Temple of Buddha’s Light? A.It was effortless but fruitful. B.It was dangerous but meaningless. C.It was challenging but rewarding. D.It was breathtaking but time-consuming. 4.Where is this article most likely taken from? A.a travel brochure on ancient Chinese sites. B.A magazine about famous Chinese couples. C.A research paper on ancient Chinese architecture. D.A book on the protection of Chinese cultural heritage. 【答案】1.C 2.A 3.C 4.D 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。主要介绍的是林徽因和梁思成如何在20世纪30年代克服重重困难,记录并保护中国古代建筑的历程。 1.细节理解题。根据第一段“Many of China’s ancient buildings were in danger of being destroyed before Lin Huiyin and Liang Sicheng started recording them in the 1930s. A.To develop technologies. B.To increase personal wealth. C.To preserve cultural traditions. D.To improve educational systems. 2.What can be inferred about the festival environment from Paragraph 2? A.It brings economic benefits. B.It creates a positive atmosphere. C.It makes people change lifestyle. D.It arouses negative emotions. 3.How does music help during festivals? A.It just adds sound to social events. B.It creates business chances for organizers. C.It makes people feel calm and have sharper senses. D.It only comforts the people with physical disabilities. 4.How does the writer develop the last paragraph? A.By using data. B.By making comparisons. C.By providing solutions. D.By quoting a saying. 【答案】1.C 2.B 3.C 4.C 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章主要阐述了节日的重要性及带来的诸多益处。 1.细节理解题。根据第一段中“Festivals like Chinese New Year, Mardi Gras, Diwali, and more highlight important cultural values and heritage. Festivals like these are a meaningful and deep way to connect with our roots, reflect on personal values and experiences, and discover rituals (仪式) and practices that resonate with us. (像中国新年、狂欢节、排灯节等节日突出了重要的文化价值和遗产。像这样的节日是一种有意义且深刻的方式,让我们与自己的根源建立联系,反思个人价值观和经历,并发现与我们产生共鸣的仪式和习俗)”可知,像中国新年这样的节日的一个目的是保护文化传统。故选C。 2.推理判断题。根据第二段中“Additionally, festivals tend to arouse a sense of joy and appreciation for our surroundings. Gail Patricelli, an animal behavior professor at the University of California, has witnessed significant advancements in the use of machine learning in bioacoustics (生物声学). While she believes that ESP holds promise for improving animal communication “dictionaries”, especially for species that are hard to access, she cautioned observers against projecting human characteristics onto these animals. 【答案】1.C 2.A 3.C 4.A 【导语】这是一篇说明文,文章主要介绍了ESP组织正通过机器学习的AI技术收集动物的交流信息解密动物语言,以帮助人类更好地了解动物,保护动物。 1.细节理解题。根据第一段中“The goal is to make it possible for humans to communicate with other species, or at least understand their communication, by 2030.(其目标是到2030年使人类与其他物种交流成为可能,或者至少理解它们的交流)”可知,ESP的目的是让人类能够和其他物种进行交流,故选C。 2.细节理解题。根据第二段中“Analyzing animal data is complicated, as distinguishing single animal vocalizations from a noisy environment is challenging.(分析动物数据是复杂的,因为从嘈杂的环境中区分单个动物的叫声是具有挑战性的)”可知,Aza Raskin及其团队面临的挑战是将单个动物的声音与环境区分开来,故选A。 3.推理判断题。根据第三段中“Their behaviors and vocalizations should be interpreted based on their own behaviors, environments, and social structures.(它们的行为和发声应该根据他们自己的行为、环境和社会结构来解释)”可知,Gail Patricelli认为动物的行为和发声应该根据他们自己的行为、环境和社会结构来解释,因此推知他会同意C项观点“动物之间的交流应该在每个物种的背景下进行解释”,故选C。 4.细节理解题。根据最后一段中“Director of Impact, Jane Lawton, believes that creating an ‘animal language dictionary’ could help develop better conservation strategies and reconnect humanity with overlooked ecosystems.(Impact组织的负责人Jane Lawton认为,创建一本‘动物语言词典’可以帮助制定更好的保护策略,并将人类与被忽视的生态系统重新联系起来)”可知,创建“动物语言词典”可以帮助保护动物,故选A。 (九) Apple cider vinegar has long been known as a magic liquid that can do wonders for your health. 【答案】1.C 2.B 3.D 4.A 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。主要介绍了苹果醋的益处、存在的问题、制作过程以及饮用的最佳方式等相关内容。 1.推理判断题。根据第一段后两句“Many studies have shown that apple cider vinegar can lower blood sugar levels and slightly improve cholesterol (胆固醇) levels. A few studies have shown that it might help you lose weight as it typically contains health-promoting bacteria. (许多研究表明,苹果醋可以降低血糖水平,并略微改善胆固醇水平。一些研究表明,它可能有助于减肥,因为它通常含有有益健康的细菌。)”可推知,苹果醋已被证明能改善一些健康问题。故选C项。 2.词义猜测题。根据第二段划线词后的句子“Most of the studies on apple cider vinegar have been fairly small and, in some cases, poorly designed. So the evidence is not particularly strong or definitive, experts say. Apple cider vinegar also has the potential to cause side effects in people who are taking medication to treat type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure. 根据第三段“Vinegar comes in many forms. 所以A选项“Apple Cider Vinegar: A Closer Look at Its Pros and Cons (苹果醋:深入了解它的优缺点)”,最能概括主旨要义,适宜作为标题使用。故选A项。 (十) It may seem hard to believe, but snacking several times a day can boost your health and fitness — exercise snacking, that is. B.Critic. C.Pioneer. D.Supporter. 4.What is the main purpose of the text? A.To compare different types of exercise. B.To promote short bursts of physical activity. C.To show some studies about mini workouts. D.To stress the importance of daily exercise. 【答案】1.D 2.A 3.D 4.B 【导语】本文是一篇说明文,介绍了“运动零食”(短时间爆发性运动)的概念及其对心肺健康、癌症预防和大脑健康的益处,并引用专家观点说明其可行性。 1.细节理解题。根据第一段““Exercise snacks” are short bursts of activity — 30 seconds to five or 10 minutes max — that include almost any type of movement.(“运动零食”是指短时间的运动——最多30秒到5或10分钟——包括几乎任何类型的运动)”可知,从教室冲到食堂吃午饭可以称为运动零食。故选D。 2.细节理解题。根据第三段“Adults who reported they didn’t work out saw a 17% to 18% reduction in cancer cases after they began doing just 3.4 to 3.6 minutes of vigorous physical activity daily, a July 2023 study of 22,398 people found. Their daily physical activity was done in bursts lasting less than one or two minutes. Hitting 4.5 minutes (in total) of vigorous physical activity each day was linked to a 31% to 32% lower risk of cancer, according to the study published in JAMA Oncology.( 2023年7月对22398人进行的一项研究发现,自称不锻炼的成年人在开始每天只进行3.4至3.6分钟的剧烈运动后,癌症病例减少了17%至18%。他们的日常体育活动持续时间不超过一到两分钟。根据发表在《美国医学会肿瘤学杂志》上的这项研究,每天进行4.5分钟的剧烈运动,可以将患癌症的风险降低31%至32%)”可知,运动零食可以降低癌症风险,故选A。 3.词句猜测题。划线词下文“So I like to create behaviors with my clients that are easy, accessible and doable every to most every day of the week.(所以我喜欢在一周的每一天和我的客户一起创造简单、容易和可行的行为)”提到“从小改变开始”及“易执行”等表述,可推断“proponent”意为“支持者”。故选D。 4.推理判断题。根据第一段“Exercise snacks” are short bursts of activity — 30 seconds to five or 10 minutes max —that include almost any type of movement.(“运动零食”是指短时间的运动——最多30秒到5或10分钟——包括几乎任何类型的运动)”以及全文围绕“短时运动”的益处展开可知,文章的主要目的是宣传短时间的体育活动。故选B。 (十一) With a love and fascination for traditional culture, many young Chinese have begun to use their creativity to innovate (创新) using elements from China’s intangible cultural heritage. 【答案】1.A 2.A 3.C 4.D 【导语】这是一篇说明文。文章讲述了JamesTurner夫妇通过多年园艺经验,发现植物在阴凉处也能成功生长,并且发现在阴凉处种植植物还能减少害虫问题,从而避免使用化学农药。 1.推理判断题。根据第一段“With over twenty years of gardening experience, Mr. Turner has been experimenting with growing plants in shady areas for nearly a decade.(特纳先生有二十多年的园艺经验,近十年来一直在试验在阴凉的地方种植植物)”可知,他有十年的阴凉种植经验,由此推知他成功地在阴凉地区种植植物,故选A。 2.细节理解题。根据第二段“This challenges the usual advice about growing tomatoes and shows how trees and plants can share resources like water and nutrients effectively.(这挑战了关于种植西红柿的通常建议,并展示了树木和植物如何有效地共享水和营养等资源)”可知,特纳先生种植番茄的例子挑战了传统的种植建议,故选A。 3.词句猜测题。根据划线词后文“These potatoes are placed on the east side of the trees, where they receive sunlight in the morning but are protected from the hottest part of the day. The shade helps keep insects away, as they are most harmful during the hottest part of the day.(这些土豆被放在树的东侧,在那里它们在早上接受阳光,但在一天中最热的时候受到保护。树荫有助于防止昆虫,因为它们在一天中最热的时候是最有害的)”可知,他可以在不使用杀虫剂的情况下减少昆虫问题。划线词指的是用于杀死害虫的化学物质,故选C。 4.主旨大意题。根据最后一段“The amount of sunlight plants receive depends on various factors, such as the time of day, the strength of the sunlight, and the shadows cast by trees or buildings. People interested in growing plants in shaded areas should also understand that “shade” can mean different levels of darkness depending on the place, which affects how well plants grow.(植物接受的阳光量取决于各种因素,如一天中的时间、阳光的强度以及树木或建筑物投下的阴影。对在阴凉处种植植物感兴趣的人也应该明白,“阴影”可能意味着不同程度的黑暗,这取决于地点,这会影响植物的生长)”可知,这一段的核心是探讨植物接收到的阳光量受时间、阳光强度和阴影等因素的影响,故选D。 (十三) Brown bears have been part of my life for as long as I can remember. Biologists were learning to read brown bears’ behavior, challenging longtime ideas that bears were unpredictable (不可预测的). They discovered that if humans behaved equally predictably — by limiting visitors to small guided groups, respecting the bears’ behavior and space, and never feeding the animals human food — the bears could accept the human presence over time. A.More people started hunting bears. B.People preferred guided tours to visiting on their own. C.Bear viewing took the place of hunting as the main activity. D.The government prevented humans from getting close to brown bears. 2.How can visitors help make bears’ behavior predictable? A.By directing their own behavior. B.By teaching the bear guides some lessons. C.By challenging the bears’ unpredictability. D.By learning to read brown bears’ behavior. 3.What is the author’s attitude towards brown bears’ present situation? A.Satisfied. B.Worried. C.Uncaring. D.Unclear. 4.What does the text mainly talk about? A.Brown bear tourism history in Alaska. B.Biologists’ efforts to study bear behavior. C.Human-bear relationship and brown bear protection. D.Bear viewing camps in Katmai Park and their popularity. 【答案】1.C 2.A 3.B 4.C 【导语】本文是一篇记叙文。文章主要讲述了作者与棕熊的亲密关系,以及阿拉斯加棕熊旅游从狩猎到观赏的转变,强调了人类与棕熊和谐共处的重要性以及保护棕熊栖息地的紧迫性。 1.细节理解题。根据第一段“My parents’ five years as bear guides, in the mid-1980s, took place during a key change in Alaska, where brown bear tourism had previously been hunting.(在20世纪80年代中期,我父母做了五年的熊导游,这发生在阿拉斯加的一个关键变化时期,在这之前棕熊旅游业主要是狩猎活动)”可知,20世纪80年代阿拉斯加棕熊旅游业发生了重要转变,由之前的狩猎转变为以观赏为主。故选C。 2.细节理解题。根据第二段“They discovered that if humans behaved equally predictably — by limiting visitors to small guided groups, respecting the bears’ behavior and space, and never feeding the animals human food — the bears could accept the human presence over time.(他们发现,如果人类的行为同样可预测——通过将游客限制在有导游带领的小团体中,尊重熊的行为和空间,并且从不给动物喂食人类的食物——随着时间的推移,熊可以接受人类的存在)”可知,游客可以通过规范自身行为来让棕熊的行为变得可预测。故选A。 3.推理判断题。根据最后一段“One of the greatest dangers to brown bears is losing their homes in nature. Around the world, brown bears now live in just 2% of the places they used to live.(棕熊面临的最大危险之一是失去它们在自然界中的家园。 (十四) Every species, no matter how small or seemingly insignificant, plays a unique role in the ecosystem. 【答案】1.C 2.B 3.C 4.A 【导语】本文是一篇议论文。文章主要论述了保护野生动物的重要性及相关举措。 1.细节理解题。根据第一段中“For instance, the decline of bees has already threatened global food supply, as they are essential for pollinating crops.(例如,蜜蜂数量的下降已经威胁到全球粮食供应,因为它们对农作物的授粉至关重要)”可知,蜜蜂在生态系统中对确保粮食产量至关重要。故选C。 2.词句猜测题。根据划线单词所在的句子“deserve moral consideration because they can experience suffering(应该得到道德上的考虑,因为它们能够感受到痛苦)”可知,这些动物能够感受到痛苦,所以他们是有感觉,所以有感觉的动物应该得到道德上的考虑,所以sentient意为“能感觉到痛苦的”。故选B。 3.推理判断题。根据第三段中“The loss of biodiversity not only lessens the beauty and richness of our planet but also weakens the flexibility of ecosystems. For example, coral reefs, which are home to 25% of marine life, are dying due to ocean acidification and rising temperatures. Their collapse would devastate marine biodiversity and the livelihoods of millions who depend on fishing.(生物多样性的丧失不仅减少了我们星球的美丽和丰富性,还削弱了生态系统的灵活性。例如,占海洋生物25%的珊瑚礁,由于海洋酸化和温度升高而死亡。它们的崩溃将摧毁海洋生物多样性以及数百万依赖渔业为生的人的生计)”可推知,文中提到珊瑚礁是为了证明生物多样性丧失的灾难性后果。故选C。 4.主旨大意题。根据最后一段中“The protection of wildlife is not a luxury but a necessity. It is a testament to our ability to coexist with nature and a reflection of our moral obligation.(保护野生动物不是一种奢侈,而是一种必要。它证明了我们与自然共存的能力,也反映了我们的道德义务)”以及文章内容可知,本文主要论述了保护野生动物的重要性及采取的措施。故选A。 (十五) Every day at sunrise on the small French Polynesian island of Rimatara, Tiraha Mooroa goes for a run with Koha, the dog. 【答案】1.A 2.D 3.C 4.D 【导语】这是一篇说明文。文章围绕法属波利尼西亚里马塔拉岛濒危的里马塔拉吸蜜鹦鹉展开,介绍了其面临的生存威胁及保护举措。 1.推理判断题。根据第一段中“Now, of the 118 islands in French Polynesia, Rimatara is one of only three without the rats.( 现在,在法属波利尼西亚的118个岛屿中,里马塔拉岛是仅有的三个没有老鼠的岛屿之一)”可知,在法属波利尼西亚的 118 个岛屿中,里马塔拉岛是仅有的三个没有老鼠的岛屿之一。结合前文提到Koha负责嗅出并杀死岛上的黑鼠,可推断出 Koha的努力起作用了,使得该岛没有老鼠。故选A项。 2.细节理解题。根据第二段中“By the 18th century, however, it had already been hunted to near extinction by the Polynesians, who prized the bird’s red feathers for making headdresses.( 然而,到了18世纪,这种鸟已经被波利尼西亚人猎杀到濒临灭绝,他们珍视这种鸟的红色羽毛,用来制作头饰)”可知,18世纪里马塔拉吸蜜鹦鹉数量下降的主要原因是人类的猎杀。故选D项。 3.细节理解题。根据第三段中“The videos confirm that after the visit of a white-tailed tropicbird, the two hatchlings are no longer in the nest. The while-tailed tropicbird may be targeting and taking over lorikeet nests because of its own habitat loss(视频证实,在一只白尾热带鸟来访后,这两只幼鸟已经不在巢里了。拉瓦图-史密斯说:“白尾热带鸟可能因为自己的栖息地丧失而瞄准并接管了鹦鹉的巢穴。”)”可知,拉瓦图-史密斯发现里马塔拉吸蜜鹦鹉失去了它们的栖息地给其他鸟类。故选C项。 4.细节理解题。根据最后一段中“Rima Ura works to educate residents of Rimatara about how they can help protect the lorikeet, for instance encouraging locals to plant more fruit trees around their houses. Members of Rima Ura who live on the island also mark nesting trees and participate in reforestation initiatives.( Rima Ura致力于教育Rimatara的居民如何帮助保护吸蜜鹦鹉,例如鼓励当地人在房屋周围种植更多的果树。
