I’ve worked in the factories surrounding my hometown every summer since I graduated from high school. But making the transition between school and full-time blue-collar work during the break never gets any easier. For a student like me who considers any class before noon to be uncivilized, getting to a factory by 6 o’ clock each morning is torture. My friends never seem to understand why I’m so relieved to be back at school or that my summer vacation has been anything but a vacation.
There are few people as self-confident as a college student who has never been out in the real world. People of my age always seem to overestimate the value of their time and knowledge. In fact, all the classes did not prepare me for my battles with the machine I ra n in the plant, which would jam whenever I absent-mindedly put in a part backward or upside down. .
The most stressful thing about blue-collar life is knowing your job could disappear overnight. Issues like downsizing and overseas relocation had always seemed distant to me until my co-workers told me that the unit I was working in would shut down within six months and move to Mexico, where people would work for 60 cents an hour.
After working 12-hour shifts in a factory, the other options have become only too clear. When I’m back at the university, skipping classes and turning in lazy re-writes seems too irresponsible after seeing what I would be doing without school. All the advice and public-service announcements about the value of an education that used to sound stale now ring true.
These lessons I’m learning, however precious, are always tinged (带有) with a sense of guilt. Many people pass their lives in the places I briefly work, spending 30 years where I spend only two months at a time. “This job pays well, but it’s hell on the body,” said one co-worker.“Study hard and keep reading,” she added.
My experiences in the factories have inspired me to make the most of my college years before I enter the real world for good.
39. How did the author look back on his summer days while at college?
A. They brought him nothing but torture.
B. They were no holiday for him at all.
C. They were a relief from his hard work at school.
D. They offered him a chance to know more people.
40. Which of the following is closest to the underlined word “torture” in the first paragraph?
A. Misery. B. Fortune. C. Anxiety. D. Availability.
41. What does the author say about college students?
A. They expect too much from the real world.
B. They have little interest in blue-collar life.
C. They think too highly of themselves.
D. They are confident about their future.
42. In what important way has the author’s work experience changed him?
A. He learned to be more practical.
B. He acquired a sense of urgency.
C. He came to respect blue-collar workers.
D. He came to appreciate his college education.

My friends never seem to understand why I’m so relieved to be back at school or that my summer vacation has been anything but a vacation.(但是,在假期里从学校生活过渡到全职蓝领工作从来都不是一件容易的事。 B“They were no holiday for him at all.(它们对他来说根本不是假期)”符合题意。故选B。
【40题详解】
词义猜测题。根据文章第一段“For a student like me who considers any class before noon to be uncivilized, getting to a factory by 6 o’clock each morning is torture.(对于像我这样认为在中午之前上课是不文明的学生来说,每天早上6点到达工厂是……。)”以及后文“My friends never seem to understand why I’m so relieved to be back at school or that my summer vacation has been anything but a vacation.(我的朋友们似乎从来都不理解为什么回到学校我会如此如释重负,也不明白我的暑假根本算不上什么假期。)”可知,作者回到学校后感觉到如释重负,由此作者认为对于像他这样认为上午上课不文明的学生来说,每天早上6点去工厂是折磨。划线词与选项A“Misery(痛苦)”意思相近。故选A。
【41题详解】
推理判断题。根据文章第二段中“There are few people as self-confident as a college student who has never been out in the real world. People of my age always seem to overestimate the value of their time and knowledge.(很少有人能像从未踏入现实世界的大学生那样自信。像我这样年纪的人似乎总是高估他们的时间和知识的价值。)”可知,作者认为像他这样没有真正进入过社会的大学生往往过于自信,高估了自己时间和知识的价值。因此,选项C“They think too highly of themselves.(他们对自己评价过高)”符合题意。故选C。
【42题详解】
推理判断题。根据文章倒数第三段中“After working 12-hour shifts in a factory, the other options have become only too clear. When I’m back at the university, skipping classes and turning in lazy re-writes seems too irresponsible after seeing what I would be doing without school. All the advice and public-service announcements about the value of an education that used to sound stale now ring true.(在工厂上完12个小时的班后,其他的选择就变得再明显不过了。当我回到大学时,在见识到没有学校我会过什么样的生活后,逃课和提交敷衍了事的改写作业看起来就太不负责任了。那些曾经听起来陈词滥调的关于教育价值的建议和公益广告,现在听起来却是千真万确的。)”可知,作者在工厂工作12个小时后,意识到没有学校的生活是多么艰难,因此回到大学后更加珍惜学习的机会,不再逃课或提交敷衍的作业。这表明作者的工作经历让他更加珍视自己的大学教育。故选D。
C
The Stanford marshmallow (棉花糖) test was originally conducted by psychologist Walter Mischel in the late 1960s. Children aged four to six at a nursery school were placed in a room. A single sugary treat, selected by the child, was placed on a table. Each child was told if they waited for 15 minutes before eating the treat, they would be given a second treat. Then they were left alone in the room. Follow-up studies with the children later in life showed a connection between an ability to wait long enough to obtain a second treat and various forms of success.
As adults we face a version of the marshmallow test every day. We’re not tempted (诱惑) by sugary treats, but by our computers, phones, and tablets — all the devices that connect us to the global delivery system for various types of information that do to us what marshmallows do to preschoolers.
We are tempted by sugary treats because our ancestors lived in a calorie-poor world, and our brains developed a response mechanism to these treats that reflected their value — a feeling of reward and satisfaction. But as we’ve reshaped the world around us, dramatically reducing the cost and effort involved in obtaining calories, we still have the same brains we had thousands of years ago, and this mismatch is at the heart of why so many of us struggle to resist tempting foods that we know we shouldn’t eat.
A similar process is at work in our response to information. Our formative environment as a species was information-poor, so our brains developed a mechanism that prized new information. But global connectivity has greatly changed our information environment. We are now ceaselessly bombarded (轰炸) with new information. Therefore, just as we need to be more thoughtful about our caloric consumption, we also need to be more thoughtful about our information consumption, resisting the temptation of the mental “junk food” in order to manage our time most effectively.
43. What did the children need to do to get a second treat in Mischel’s test?
A. Take an examination alone. B. Show respect for the researchers.
C. Share their treats with others. D. Delay eating for fifteen minutes.
44. According to paragraph 3, there is a mismatch between .
A. the calorie-poor world and our good appetites B. the shortage of sugar and our nutritional needs
C. the rich food supply and our unchanged brains D. the tempting foods and our efforts to keep fit
45. What does the author suggest readers do?
A. Absorb new information readily. B. Be selective information consumers.
C. Use diverse information sources. D. Protect the information environment.
46. Which of the following is the best title for the text?
A. Eat Less, Read More B. The Bitter Truth about Early Humans
C. The Later, the Better D. The Marshmallow Test for Grownups

D
Teenagers are self-contradictory. That’s a mild and objective way of saying something that parents often express with considerably stronger language. But the-self-contradiction is scientific and personal. in adolescence, helpless and dependent children who have relied on grown-ups for just about everything become independent people who can take care of themselves and help each other. At the same time, once cheerful-and obedient children become rebellious (叛逆的) teenage risk-takers.
A new study published in the journal Child Development, by Eveline Crone of the University of Leiden and colleagues, suggests that the positive and negative sides of teenagers go hand in hand. The study is part of a new wave of thinking about adolescence. For a long time, scientists and policy makers concentrated on the idea that teenagers were a problem that needed to be solved. The new work emphasizes that adolescence is a time of opportunity as well as risk.
The researchers studied“prosocial” (亲社会) and rebellious traits (特征) in more than 200children and young adults, ranging from 11 to 28 years old. The participants filled out questionnaires about how often they did things that were selfless and positive, like sacrificing their own interests to help a friend, or rebellious and negative, like getting drunk or staying out late.
Other studies have shown that rebellious behavior increases as you become a teenager and then fades away as you grow older. But the new study shows that, interestingly, the same is true for prosocial behavior. Teenagers were more likely than younger children or adults to report that they did things like unselfishly help a friend.
Most significantly, there was a positive correlation between prosociality and rebelliousness. The teenagers who were more rebellious were also more likely to help others. The good and bad sides of adolescence seem to develop together. Is there some common factor that underlies these apparently contradictory developments? One idea is that teenage behavior is related to what researchers call“reward sensitivity.” Decision-making always involves balancing rewards and risks, benefits and costs. “Reward sensitivity” measures how much reward it takes to outweigh risk.
Teenagers are particularly sensitive to social rewards— winning the game, impressing a new friend, getting that boy to notice you. Reward sensitivity, like prosocial behavior and risk-taking,seems to go up in adolescence and then down again as we age. Somehow, when you hit 30, the chance that something exciting and new will happen at that party just doesn’t seem to outweigh the effort of getting up off the couch.
47. According to Paragraph 1, children growing into adolescence tend to .
A. see the world in an unreasonable way
B. develop opposite personality traits
C. have fond memories of their past
D. show affection for their parents
48. It can be learned from Paragraph 2 that Crone’s study .
A. provides a new insight into adolescence
B. explores teenagers’ social responsibilities
C. examines teenagers’ emotional problems
D. highlights negative adolescent behavior
49. What does Crone’s study find about prosocial behavior?
A. It results from the wish to cooperate.
B. It tends to peak in adolescence.
C. It is cultivated through education.
D. It is subject to family influence.
50. It can be learned from the last two paragraphs that teenagers .
A. overstress their influence on others

On January 28, 2025, a special performance called YangBOT amazed audiences at the CCTV Spring Festival Gala, China’s most-watched TV show directed by famous filmmaker Zhang Yimou.
The show combined traditional Chinese yangko(秧歌)dance with modern robot technology. In the performance, humanoid robots(robots shaped like humans)dressed in colorful costumes danced yangko, a joyful folk dance from northern China often seen during festivals. They spun handkerchiefs instantly and formed creative group patterns. These robots were developed by Unitree(字树科技), Chinese robotics company. This was not Unitree’s first success. In 2021, their robot cows named “Ben Ben”(犇犇) danced as backup for singer Andy Lau. They looked, to some extent, a little clumsy and awkward. But this time, the YangBOT danced through AI and used laser navigation(激光导航), thus enabling them to move safely and swiftly on the uneven(不平坦的)stage. They really made a breakthrough in technology.
Zhang Yimou explained, “This dance isn’t just fun-shows how technology can bring new life to traditions.” Thanks to these innovations, the robots won the hearts of millions. On social media, topics like “Robot Yangko” became hot quickly. Young viewers called it “cool,” while older audiences loved its humor and festive spirit.
The YangBOT program is a perfect mix of China’s tech-progress and cultural pride. As one fan said, “It’s like watching the future and past dance together!”. 四、阅读理解:本大题共15小题,共30分。
A
Some people learn a foreign language because they want to communicate with the local people. Some other people are just curious about foreign cultures. Whatever your reason may be,the best foreign language software around will certainly help you pick up the language in a few weeks. You will be able to speak fluently (流利地) and understand the language clearly as well.
Tell Me More
This software is widely used in U. S. schools, and it is believed to be the best foreign language learning software around the world. It offers instructions for learning Arabic, Chinese, Dutch, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese and Spanish. However, the software does not come cheap as it costs around $250.
Talk Now!
If you are looking for a cheaper language learning software, then this is just the suitable choice for you. This software will cost you around $40, and even though it is not as useful as Tell Me More, it is still a very good software for the purpose.

A. provides a new insight into adolescence
B. explores teenagers’ social responsibilities

Some netizens, especially those living abroad, left messages on the blog of CCTV, expressing their sense of pride as Chinese people. It is a reflection of our confidence and pride.
