At 3 a. m. in Seoul, 19-year-old university student Min-Ji turns on her webcam (网络摄像头), arranges textbooks under soft studio lighting, and joins 2, 300 viewers worldwide in a silent digital library. What sounds like insomnia-driven (失眠驱动) behavior is actually part of a global phenomenon: live-streamed study sessions revolutionizing self-directed learning.
Platforms like StudyStream report a 217% surge in users since 2020, with students broadcasting their study routines to hold themselves accountable. The trend mixes productivity culture with Gen Z’s (Z世代的) digital fluency, creating what psychologists call “peer-powered discipline.”
Learners stream their study sessions, while viewers tune into share the experience, fostering a sense of collective motivation. StudyStream’s data reveals 78% of participants study 40+ minutes longer per session when live. “It’s like having study buddies (好哥们) worldwide cheering you on,” explains Canadian user Emily Torres, who improved her GPA from 2. 8 to 3. 4 using the method.
Harvard education researcher Dr. Lila Chen notes the phenomenon taps into fundamental psychology: “Public commitment triggers the observer effect—we behave differently when watched, even virtually. It externalizes willpower.” Her team’s 2022 study found live-stream learners were 2. 3 times more likely to complete study goals than solo peers.
Platforms are innovating rapidly. FocusBear integrates AI to flag distractions (e. g., phone usage) during streams. StudyWithMe. TV offers virtual “study halls” with timed Pomodoro breaks. TikTok’s StudyWithMe tag has garnered 8. 9 billion views.
Yet the trend faces criticism. “It risks replacing intrinsic motivation with performative studying,” warns Stanford psychologist Dr. Raj Patel. Some users report anxiety about viewer numbers, echoing social media’s metrics-driven stress.
As universities take note—MIT now hosts official study streams—entrepreneurs see broader applications. StudyStream CEO Aisha Malik reveals plans for corporate versions: “We ’re piloting streams for remote workers battling procrastination (拖延症).”
For now, millions keep cameras on and books open. As Min-Ji signs off her 6-hour stream with a handwritten “Goodnight, study warriors!” in six languages, the chat explodes in heart emojis—a digital pact to continue tomorrow.
24.What user growth did StudyStream report since 2020?
A.A 78% increase in study time per session. B.An 8. 9 billion rise in video views on TikTok.
C.A 2. 3 times higher rate of study goal completion. D.A 217% surge in registered users.
25.Why does live-stream studying work?
A.Uses AI distraction alerts. B.Creates virtual classrooms.
C.Stimulates observer effect. D.Reduces online stress.
26.What is a possible negative effect of live-stream studying?
A.Performative studying. B.Narrow applications.
C.Less cooperation. D.Increased delay in work.
27.What is the article mainly about?
A.Technical advances in streaming. B.A new study trend enhancing discipline.
C.Classroom psychology of being watched. D.Social media anxiety problems.

Intermittent fasting (间歇性禁食) has taken off in popularity in recent years as an alternative to more traditional weight loss advice, including counting calories, which can be cumbersome and hard to sustain for some people. It can take different forms. One approach — called time-restricted eating — limits when people eat to a specific window of time, often around six to eight hours.
Some research suggests this can be successful for weight loss in the short term because people end up eating less, but it has been less clear how well it works over a longer stretch of time. A new study published Monday may have an answer.
The study, led by Krista Varady, a professor of nutrition at the University of Illinois Chicago, finds that intermittent fasting can indeed help people lose weight and keep it off over the course of a year. The amount of weight loss wasn’t dramatic — equivalent (相等的) to about 5% of body weight — but the findings are encouraging to researchers in the field, in part because they stress that people could keep this habit up over a long stretch of time.
Varady’s team recruited 90 adults with obesity (肥胖) from the Chicago area and randomly assigned them to one of three groups: One group could eat only between noon and 8 pm, another had to count calories and cut daily energy intake by 25%, and the third group didn’t make any changes to their eating.
The study found that those who did time-restricted eating lost, on average, about 10 pounds more than those in the control group, while those who counted their calories lost about 12 pounds more. The difference between the two groups wasn’t statistically significant. “The key take-away is that you can basically achieve the same amount of energy restriction by counting time instead of counting calories,” says Varady.
28.What does the underlined word “cumbersome” in paragraph 1 mean?
A.Efficient. B.Unhealthy. C.Complicated. D.Flexible.
29.What does the new study aim to determine regarding intermittent fasting?
A.Whether it is useful to reduce obesity rate.
B.Its impact on calorie tracking over a year.
C.Its effectiveness for long-term weight loss.
D.Whether it is better than traditional diets.
30.How did the researchers conduct their study?
A.By surveying the eating habits of adults with obesity.
B.By keeping track of the participants’ calorie intake.
C.By measuring the body weight of people in Chicago.
D.By analyzing data from the participants.
31.What can be inferred from the last paragraph?
A.Intermittent fasting is as effective as counting calories.
B.Time-restricted eating is statistically insignificant.
C.Intermittent fasting is superior to traditional diets.
D.Counting calories is easier than counting time.

Imagine an artificial intelligence model that can watch and understand moving images like you and me. Now, scientists have made this a reality by creating MovieNet: an innovative AI that processes videos much like how our brains interpret real-life scenes.
This brain-inspired AI model can perceive dynamic scenes by simulating (模拟) how neurons (神经元) make real-time sense of the world. While conventional AI excels at still image recognition, MovieNet is designed to understand complex, dynamic scenes, allowing it to recognize tiny changes over time.
To create MovieNet, Hollis Cline, senior author of the study, examined how animals’ brains process real-world scenes. Specifically, he studied how tadpoles’ (蝌蚪的) neurons respond to moving stimuli. Tadpoles’ neurons process these visual inputs like solving puzzle pieces: each piece alone may not make sense, but together they form a complete image in motion. Different neurons process various “puzzle pieces” of a real-life moving image, which the brain then combines to form a continuous scene.
Using this understanding, the researchers trained MovieNet to process video clips by identifying small visual signals, allowing it to distinguish between small changes in scenes. In testing, MovieNet achieved 82.3% accuracy, outperforming trained human observers by 18% and doing much better than existing AI models.
Beyond its higher accuracy, MovieNet is more environment-friendly. Conventional AI requires vast amounts of data and energy, but MovieNet compresses (压缩) data like a zipped file, reducing environmental impact. “We’ve also made AI far less demanding,” says Cline. MovieNet could also transform medicine. It might help detect early signs of diseases by tracking small movement changes that are difficult for human eyes to detect.
Looking ahead, the team plans to improve MovieNet’s ability to adapt to different environments and enhance its potential applications. “By designing models that think like living organisms (有机体), we can achieve efficiency levels that aren’t possible with traditional AI,” says Cline, “Biology is a gold mine.”
32.How is MovieNet differnet from conventional AI models ?
A.It can spot small changes over time.
B.It is better at recognizing still images.
C.It can interpret real-life scenes of the world.
D.It can create videos with more complex images.
33.MovieNet is trained ________.
A.to increase visual inputs.
B.to integrate dynamic images.
C.to feed on information pieces.
D.to look into tadpoles’ neurons.
34.According to paragraph 5, what is an advantage of MovieNet?
A.Its powerful data storage.
B.Its low energy consumption.
C.Its control of medical diseases.
D.Its improvement on drug effects.
35.What can be concluded from Cline’s words in the last paragraph?
A.Biology brings us financial profits.
B.Living organisms can outperform AI.
C.AI can assist in biological development.
D.Drawing inspiration from biology is promising.

The Impact of Social Media on Teenagers’ Mental Health
In today’s digital age, social media has become an inseparable part of teenagers’ lives. 36 This essay argues that while social media has certain benefits, its negative impacts on teenagers’ psychological well-being outweigh the positives.
Firstly, social media fosters (助长) a culture of comparison and insecurity. Platforms like Instagram and TikTok are filled with carefully selected images of “perfect” lives, leading many teenagers to feel inferior to them. Studies show that too much exposure to idealized lifestyles can cause anxiety, low self-esteem, and body image issues. For instance, a 2022 survey by the American Psychological Association revealed that 60% of teens feel pressured to meet unrealistic beauty standards online. 37
Secondly, social media addiction ruins real-life interactions and sleep patterns. Many teenagers spend hours going through feeds (推文), sacrificing face-to-face communication and physical activities. The dopamine (多巴胺) — driven design of apps like Snap-chat encourages addictive use, often resulting in loneliness and poor academic performance. 38 Lack of sleep, linked to platforms’ “always-on”culture, worsens mood instability and depression among adolescents.
39 Parents and schools should educate teenagers about digital awareness, emphasizing critical thinking and time management. Platforms themselves must prioritize user well-being by limiting addictive features and promoting authentic content.
In conclusion, while social media connects people globally, its risks to teenagers’ mental health cannot be ignored. 40
A.To reduce these harms, balanced usage is significant.
B.However, it is important to acknowledge social media’s positive aspects.
C.While it offers connection, its effects on mental health remain a heated topic.
D.Besides, late-night screen time affects sleep, which is crucial for mood control.
E.Moreover, teenagers can enhance their academic performance through social media.
F.This constant comparison creates a harmful cycle of self-doubt and emotional suffering.
G.By fostering awareness and encouraging mindful usage, society can help the young employing technology’s benefits without sacrificing their emotional well-being.

Winners Never Quit
There was a young boy named Jackson who had a burning desire to become a great chess player. He lived in a small town where chess was unpopular. The lack of proper coaches or training facilities nearby didn’t dampen his spirits at all, for his fascination with the game knew no bounds.
Every day after school, he would dash home eagerly and set up his old chessboard. For hours on end, he would study books borrowed from the library, his eyes scanning the pages attentively in an attempt to absorb new strategies. He practiced against himself religiously, moving the pieces back and forth, his mind deeply engaged in analyzing each move with care.
When he took part in local chess matches, he was frequently underestimated. The tournament hall was filled with noisy people. The other players, armed with better resources and professional training, laughed at his simple techniques.
In one particular tournament, as he sat at the table for his first game, he could feel the eyes on him. His opponent made quick and decisive opening moves. Jackson, though nervous, focused hard. But soon, he found himself in a difficult position as his opponent’s pieces advanced aggressively. He lost the game and was very disappointed.
In the next game, the situation was no better. His opponent’s fingers moved swiftly over the pieces, while Jackson’s hands were a bit sweaty as he tried to keep up, with his strategies easily countered (对抗). The taunts (嘲弄) of his opponents rang in his ears, but he refused to be disheartened.
During the break, he sat alone in the corner, replaying the games in his mind to identify his mistakes. Realizing the need to be more creative and bold in his move, he immersed himself deeper into analyzing of the games of the chess masters for inspiration. With every page he read and every move he analyzed, his determination grew like a burning fire.

D

W: Well, we feel that they’re singing louder because they sing in typically noisy places. But when the noise is gone, they sing quieter than they normally do.
M: So, in other words, birds are like us. In a noisy bar, for example, people will raise their voices?
W: Exactly. We know that birds sing quieter on the weekend mornings. This is because the noise levels are lower than the weekday rush. And that’s probably what’s happening now. Here I’ve recorded a call of the songbird. Listen to see if you can hear the difference.

根据最后一段“The study found that those who did time-restricted eating lost, on average, about 10 pounds more than those in the control group, while those who counted their calories lost about 12 pounds more. The difference between the two groups wasn’t statistically significant. “The key take-away is that you can basically achieve the same amount of energy restriction by counting time instead of counting calories,” says Varady. (研究发现,限时进食的人平均比对照组多减重约10磅,而计算卡路里的人多减重约12磅。两组之间的差异在统计上不显著。Varady说:“关键的是,你可以通过计算时间来达到与计算卡路里相同的能量限制效果。”)”可知,从最后一段可以推断出间歇性禁食和计算卡路里一样有效。故选A。

根据文章第二段中“While conventional AI excels at still image recognition, MovieNet is designed to understand complex, dynamic scenes, allowing it to recognize tiny changes over time.(虽然传统的人工智能在静态图像识别方面表现出色,但MovieNet旨在理解复杂的动态场景,使其能够识别随着时间推移而产生的细微变化)”可知,MovieNet与传统人工智能模型的不同之处在于它能发现随着时间推移的细微变化。故选A。
根据文章第三段中“Different neurons process various “puzzle pieces” of a real-life moving image, which the brain then combines to form a continuous scene.(不同的神经元处理现实生活动态图像中的各种“拼图块”,然后大脑将这些“拼图块”组合起来形成一个连续的场景)”以及第四段中“Using this understanding, the researchers trained MovieNet to process video clips by identifying small visual signals, allowing it to distinguish between small changes in scenes.(基于这一认识,研究人员对MovieNet进行训练,使其通过识别微小的视觉信号来处理视频片段,从而能够区分场景中的细微变化)”可知,MovieNet被训练是为了整合动态图像,使其能够理解复杂的动态场景。故选B。
根据文章第五段中“Beyond its higher accuracy, MovieNet is more environment-friendly. Conventional AI requires vast amounts of data and energy, but MovieNet compresses (压缩) data like a zipped file, reducing environmental impact. “We’ve also made AI far less demanding,” says Cline.(除了具有更高的准确率,MovieNet还更加环保。传统的人工智能需要大量的数据和能源,而MovieNet则像压缩文件一样压缩数据,减少了对环境的影响。Cline说:“我们还让人工智能对资源的需求大大降低。”)”可知,MovieNet的优势是低能耗。故选B。
35.推理判断题。根据文章最后一段中““By designing models that think like living organisms (有机体), we can achieve efficiency levels that aren’t possible with traditional AI,” says Cline, “Biology is a gold mine.”(Cline说:“通过设计出像生物体一样思考的模型,我们能够达到传统人工智能无法企及的效率水平。生物学是一座金矿。”)”可推知,Cline在最后一段中表达的意思是,从生物学中汲取灵感是有前途的。故选D。

For instance, a 2022 survey by the American Psychological Association revealed that 60% of teens feel pressured to meet unrealistic beauty standards online.(首先,社交媒体助长了一种攀比和不安全感的文化。 可知,此段讲述了社交媒体导致青少年产生攀比心理及相关问题,F选项“This constant comparison creates a harmful cycle of self-doubt and emotional suffering.(这种持续的比较造成了自我怀疑和情感痛苦的恶性循环。)”

故填with/and。
故填a。
后面“____ help international audiences understand traditional Chinese culture”是一个非限制性定语从句,先行词是 “the detailed descriptions of mythological settings”,关系词在从句中作主语,指物,所以用关系代词 which。故填which。
“inspire sb. to do sth.” 故填to appreciate。
66.Dear Bob,
Knowing from your letter that you are interested in robots, I am writing to share my wonderful experience with you.
What attracts me most is a companion robot that is exactly like a human being. It can walk and talk just like a person does. The companion robot is supposed to be a friend for people living alone, which also provides people with a lot of comfort and enrich their lives. In addition, the robot could help monitor the health condition of people real-time in case any emergency arises. Personally, I do see the companion robot as a solution to people’s problems.
I wish I could visit the robot exhibition with you next time.
Yours,
Li Hua

With a new-found determination, Jack told himself that winners never quit. He came back with a determined look. In the next game, he started to make unexpected and brilliant opening moves. His opponents were caught off guard. He carefully calculated each step, not allowing his previous failures to cloud his judgment. When his opponent made a challenging move, instead of panicking, he analyzed it calmly and found a way to counter it. His pieces moved across the board with precision, slowly but surely gaining an advantage. As the game progressed, he stayed focused, ignoring the whispers around him.
In the final moments of the game, the pressure was intense. Jack’s hands were steady as he made the decisive move. He won the game, and a small smile appeared on his face. This victory gave him the confidence he needed. In the following games, he continued to play with great skill and determination. Even when facing tough opponents again, he remembered his struggle and the motto that winners never quit. With each victory, he grew more confident, and eventually, he won the tournament, proving that with unwavering determination, one can overcome any obstacle in the pursuit of their dreams.

What's your favorite ite space movie? Some people asked. Apollo thirteen is probably my top one, and my son's love, blue earth IT was brilliant watching the new movie on board the space station. Listen to the next question. Our next dress up day will be on friday, october twenty eighth, and IT is our annual dress up day. On this day, students may dress up in fun cloth, and there will be a march around the school. Students are reminded not to Carry sharp things such as knives and swords, and please make sure that you can see and breathe easily if you wear masks. Parents are invited to watch the event, but are asked to stand either in front of the office near the flag pole or in the grassy courtyard. The students will be marching around on the sidewalks, so we do need to keep all sidewalks clear. Parents and friends may also join in the march if they are dressed in appropriate close. But if you're just watching, we'd like to ask you to stay in one spot to reduce traffic jam. Students who do not wish to take part in the event for religious or other reasons should inform their teacher, and they will be allowed to stay in the office until after the event.
