Reporter: What is the process (过程) of recycling? Jerry: It starts with taking used materials that can be recycled to your local recycling center. Put hem in the correct bin there. These will be reused as materials for a new purpose. Then, a recyclable product is turned back into a basic form that can be used to create a new and different product. Recycling efforts can greatly reduce additional waste that will not only harm the planet today, but future generations as well. The natural resources on our planet are limited, so we must make the most to conserve (节约使用), recycle and reuse whenever possible. Reporter: What can we recycle? Jerry: Not all materials are recyclable. Among the items that are recycled are paper towels, cardboard boxes, plastic containers, crayons, etc. Reporter: Why do you think recycling is important? Jerry: Recycling our waste makes us more responsible in the way we deal with it. Studies show that people who do this are more likely to cut down on buying things that are unnecessary. They think of how to deal with the packaging (包装) after use even before buying them. As a result, people end up saving money while also saving the planet. Reporter: Oh, that reminds me, waste not, want not. Jerry: That’s right. Recycling can also help develop communities. Many community groups raise money through reusing and recycling goods. They take our unwanted clothes, furniture and other household items to resell. Reporter: Hopefully, our efforts will pay off because if we take care of our planet, it will take care of us. 29. How does Jerry introduce the process of recycling? A. By telling a story. B. By showing steps. C. By listing numbers. D. By comparing methods. 30. Why does the reporter say “Oh, that reminds me, waste not, want not.”? A. To introduce a new study about recycling. B. To bring up a new topic for their discussion. C. To show support for Jerry’s idea on recycling. D. To express doubts about Jerry’s recycling plan. 31. What can we learn from the interview? ①Recycling efforts can help make better communities. ②Nature has its own cycle and can deal with the waste ③Recycling is a journey of turning waste into new hope ④A green-thinking customer thinks twice before buying. A. ①③④ B. ②③④ C. ①②③ D. ①②④ 【答案】29. B 30. C 31. A 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇对艺术比赛获奖者Jerry的采访,主要围绕回收利用展开,Jerry介绍了回收利用的过程、可回收的物品,以及回收利用的重要性。 【29题详解】 推理判断题。根据“It starts with taking used materials… Then, a recyclable product is turned back into a basic form…” 根据“Recycling efforts can greatly reduce additional waste that will not only harm the planet today, but future generations as well.”可知回收努力能帮助减少对地球的危害,对应③;根据“Recycling can also help develop communities. Many community groups raise money through reusing and recycling goods.”可知回收能帮助发展社区,对应①;根据“Studies show that people who do this are more likely to cut down on buying things that are unnecessary. They think of how to deal with the packaging (包装) after use even before buying them.”可知有环保思维的顾客在购买前会再三考虑,对应④。故选A。 C The first time I ate Sichuan hot pot was in Changchun in northeastern China. I had only been in China for a week when Rui, my new Chinese friend, asked me, “Have you ever had hot pot?” “No, what is it?” I answered. “It’s good. You’ll like it. See you tonight at 7?” And so it was decided. The hot pot restaurant was popular in the city. We found a table at the far end of a room. Soon, a large hot pot arrived. The hot pot itself had two sides. On one side was a cloudy white broth. The broth on the other side was covered with bright red oil. “Is that red pepper oil?” I asked. “Yes,” Rui answered. “You should try it. If you like spicy (辛辣的) food, you’ll really enjoy it.” Rui picked up a thin slice of lamb with his chopsticks and then put it in the red broth. In seconds, it was cooked, and he put it on my small plate. “If it’s too spicy, you can use this other broth—it’s not spicy at all because it doesn’t have any pepper’s in it,” Rui pointed to the cloudy white broth on the other side of the pot “No,” said, “this is fine.” But it was more than fine: It was spicy, mouth-numbing, and amazing. I ate and ate until the restaurant was almost closed. I just couldn’t get enough of it. For hundreds of years, millions of Chinese people have felt the same way: They just can’t get enough hot pot. It has always been their favourite food. What makes Sichuan hot pot different from other hot pots is the use of huajiao. It is said that the spicy food helps people get through Sichuan's hot and wet weather. Nearly as famous as the Sichuan hot pot is the Beijing hot pot. The Beijing hot pot uses lamb and many of the same ingredients (配料) as the Sichuan hot pot, but has a lighter taste. The Northeast Chinese hot pot usually contains pork and pickled cabbage, while the Guangdong hot pot uses a chicken or a fish broth, and is known for its wide range of ingredients. In fact, while lamb hot pot is quite popular, almost any kind of ingredient can be found in hot pot cooking. There are as many kinds of hot pots as there are cooks. In China, people like to joke that there is no problem that a hot pot can’t solve. The fire from a hot pot can melt just about any icy disagreement and warm just about any heart. Over a hot pot, people can talk and share not just food, but friendship. While the food may soon be forgotten, these friendships stay with us forever. Even today, when I think of hot pot, my friend Rui’s face immediately comes to mind, and I remember all the good times I spent with him. 32. What does the underlined word “it” in the passage mean? A. Expecting to try hot pot next week. B. Seeing an old friend in Changchun. C. Going out to eat hot pot at 7 that evening. D. Recommending a well-known restaurant. 33. What kind of pot did the writer try according to the passage? A. B. C. D. 34. What does “There are as many kinds of hot pots as there are cooks.” probably mean? A. People can make hot pots as they want. B. Making hot pots is easy for most cooks. C Hot pots come in different types in China. D. Each cook has different ways to cook hot pots. 35. What is the best title for this passage? A. Spicy Food Tastes Great B. Hot Pots Fix Everything C. Tastes Change, Friendships Remain D. Stomachs Satisfied, Hearts Warmed 【答案】32. C 33. A 34. C 35. He ran into the woods, looking around for a place. First, be came to a fallen tree trunk. “This looks like a suitable place!” he said, spying a hole in its side. But when he poked his head (探头) in, he heard “You can’t stay here. It’s our home, and breakfast, lunch and dinner!” said hundreds of tiny termites (白蚁). The porcupine apologized (道歉) and backed away. “Now where can I go?” he wondered. Then he found a space under a thick bush that seemed to be protected from the wind, so he tried crawling (爬) in there. “Hey!” hissed the lynx (猞猁), showing her sharp paws. “This is my place, and don’t you forget it!” The porcupine went away in a hurry—he didn’t want any trouble. The poor porcupine was really getting worried, “I might freeze if I don’t find somewhere to stay soon!” he said, his teeth chattering. A snake overheard the porcupine and felt sorry for him. She poked her head out of her hole and said, “Would you like to stay in here with me? My burrow (洞穴) is quite small, but I’m sure we can both fit!” The porcupine was ever so thankful! He pushed his way into the snake’s narrow home. “This is so nice!” he said.“How kind of you to let me in!” However, when the snake tried to get to sleep, she found it impossible to get into a comfortable position. Twist and turn as she might, she was always getting hurt by the porcupine’s spines (刺)... “Can you move over a bit?” she asked. The porcupine tried, but it didn’t help! They both spent an uneasy night in the little burrow and hardly slept at all!“I really wanted to help the poor porcupine,” the snake thought, “but I wish I’d never invited him in.” The porcupine was feeling just as upset. When morning came, he cleared his throat and said, “I’m sorry that things are so uncomfortable, especially as you have been so kind. I think I have an idea, if you agree!” The snake was still painful and tired from her sleepless night, so she just nodded. With his paws, the porcupine began scratching (刨) at the hole’s walls. As the snake watched in wonder, the porcupine dug out an extra room that was just the right size for him. “There you are!” he said in a satisfied voice. “Now there is plenty of room for both of us!” The snake and the porcupine shared that burrow all winter. It was warmer with the two of them in it, and there was enough space for both animals to sleep comfortably. They began as a form of folk art in the Tang and Song Dynasties in China, and became popular in the Ming Dynasty. Long ago, they found their way to Japan and other neighbouring countries, and were well received there. Now they are taken as one of the symbols of Chinese culture. As for the name itself, it is meaningful. The Chinese character for “knot”, jie, means “connection” or “combination”. It reminds people of some cultural concepts like marriage, brotherhood, friendship, unity and reunion (团圆). Meanwhile, the pronunciation of the Chinese character jie is very close to that of ji, “good luck”. As a result, Chinese knots perfectly serve as a way to express people’s strong wishes for good things like joy, love and good luck. Besides, the knots, widely existing in the everyday life of the Chinese, come in various (各种各样的) sizes. Small ones are joined to jewellery, clothes, gift-wrapping and furniture to attract people’s attention, and large ones are applied (应用) like fine paintings or photographs to decorate a living room or study. Whether large or small, there are over a dozen basic knot patterns (样式), named according to their shapes, usages or origins. For example, Double Coin Knots are called Shuangqian Jie because they are in the shape of two ancient Chinese coins, meaning “good things coming in pairs”. However, almost all the main styles of Chinese fancy knots are made up of two very similar parts, and the patterns on the front and the back sides are also similar in every detail. In addition to their varied sizes and patters, Chinese knots are famous for their bright colours. Each of the Chinese knots is made of only one string of cotton, silk, gold or silver. But the colours of the strings are rich and have various traditional cultural meanings. Among the most commonly used base colours, red symbolises good luck and happiness, green means health and harmony, and yellow, which was once known as the emperor’s colour, may represent wealth and honour. In brief, the famous Chinese fancy knots fully show the depth of Chinese culture. These brightly coloured knots of various patterns, with their endless chains of knots, symbolise that life on earth will continue forever. B To bring up a new topic for their discussion. C. What can we learn from the interview? ①Recycling efforts can help make better communities. ②Nature has its own cycle and can deal with the waste ③Recycling is a journey of turning waste into new hope ④A green-thinking customer thinks twice before buying. A. ①③④ B. ②③④ C. ①②③ D. ①②④ C The first time I ate Sichuan hot pot was in Changchun in northeastern China. I had only been in China for a week when Rui, my new Chinese friend, asked me, “Have you ever had hot pot?” “No, what is it?” I answered. “It’s good. You’ll like it. See you tonight at 7?” And so it was decided The hot pot restaurant was popular in the city. A. The snake enjoyed the stores the porcupine told, and the porcupine was impressed by the snake’s skills at finding food. Later on, people made coins, which had a consistent (一致的) purity and weight, and represented certain amounts of various objects.
