Sounds strange, many young people in China don’t have time to enjoy themselves or talk to their friends. Instead, they always eat alone. So they watch funny videos while eating. It’s like a friend telling you the best stories by your side. And these videos are called electronic pickled vegetables. They are usually short, such as cartoons, different kinds of shows or music. Different people have different opinions. Some think that electronic pickled vegetables can distract people from eating. That’s because you may laugh along with a cartoon character and forget to eat. However, others think they can make eating more enjoyable and less lonely. China Daily reported more serious vision problems in China in 2019. In the report, 80% senior high school students are short-sighted, followed by 71% in junior high school, 36% in primary school and 14% of 6-year-olds. Besides family history, there are some other reasons, such as not having enough outdoor activities, being short of enough sleep and too much use of electronic products. However, many young people don’t take shortsightedness seriously before they are short-sighted. They think it’s easy to solve the problem with the help of glasses, or eye operations (手术). Around 60% of people will experience a bloody nose in their lifetime. Nosebleeds are most common in children from 2 to 10 years and in adults aged 50-80. Common causes of nosebleeds include dry air and wounds to the nose or other parts of the head. Blowing your nose too often when you have a cold can also lead to nosebleeds. You probably already know how to stop a bloody nose right away, but it’s important to do it properly and safely. Always sit up straight when your nose is bleeding, and never lie on your back. One of the biggest mistakes in first aid is that you lean (倾斜) back with a bloody nose, but the best thing to do is to lean forward. The blood needs to go somewhere, and if the person leans back or lies down, it will most likely go down his throat, possibly causing choking (窒息). And try not to put tissues (纸巾) into your nose. Pinching the nose properly stops or slows the bleeding. Hold the nose for at least five minutes. Do not let go to check for bleeding until at least the first five minutes are up. If you can, keep the pressure on for longer. After five minutes, see if the bleeding has stopped. If not, pinch again, but keep it up for 10 minutes this time. Avoid activities such as heavy lifting, blowing or picking your nose for a day after the nosebleed has stopped. Remember that if you can’t stop the nosebleed with these methods, see a doctor immediately. 1.Who may most easily have nosebleeds? A.A 6-month-old baby. B.An 8-year-old boy. C.A 15-year-old girl. What Li is experiencing is fashion anxiety. It troubles many people today. They are anxious about their dressing. A big reason for fashion anxiety is fashion bullying. As fashion magazines and advertisements show the “latest and greatest” trends, there’s a lot of pressure on people, especially on teenagers, no matter how much it will cost. “The need to belong in groups is very important to young learners and exclusion is something they see as the end of the world,” said Andy Cranham. Another reason is that young people may not have a sense of self-identity. It seems that they feel anxious about their dressing, but actually they themselves are not confident enough. They care about how fashionable people look at them. They easily doubt themselves. The truth is that those people usually don’t notice them at all. Fashion trends come and go, always changing. Instead of following, the key is to find your own style. If you’re able to wear clothes with confidence, dressing is only a part of your appearance. It can’t tell the true you. What really matters is your personality and abilities. 1.Li Meixi is anxious about ________. It started in 1931 to encourage everyone on our planet to care about animals. Unluckily, many wild animals are facing great danger. Some even become extinct and we can’t see them forever. Recently, China has done much to improve the living condition of endangered wild animals. ②The protection of Asian elephants is a good example. Being sad can happen pretty often. More than half of the teenagers go through a period of sadness at least once a month. When you are sad, it feels like it will last forever. The world seems dark and unfriendly. You might feel like you have nothing to look forward to. Many times, you cry, and it is hard to stop. However, your feeling of sadness usually doesn’t last very long—a few hours or maybe a day or two. When sadness starts to go away, it is like that a big stone is being lifted from your body. Sometimes treatment includes talking to someone who knows all about depression. Sometimes it means taking medicine. Sometimes both of these things are used. If you think you have depression, or you just have sadness that simply will not go away, it is important to talk to an adult about it first. This person can help you find the right kind of treatment. You may know the 2024 Summer Olympics will take place in France from 26 July to 11 August. Are you looking forward to Paris 2024? And how much do you know about it? While waiting for the event, we can learn something about it. The organizers have promised to make the game friendly to the environment by minimizing the number of newly-created buildings. Only 5 percent of the buildings are newly created in Paris, while 95 percent of places used for the games were already there. In one of the latest developments, the organizers said that about 11,000 seats would use recycled (可回收的) plastic (塑料) chairs. Because they found there wasn't enough plastic, they had to turn to recycled waste. That was why the organizers began working with Lemon Tri and Le Pavé. The two companies (公司) got the idea of getting plastic waste from recycling bins around the city. They need over 100 tons of plastic to make the seats. They collect 80 percent of the plastic from the nearby schools and street-side bins in Seine-Saint-Denis. They also make the plastic waste into new things there. “When we ask children to put their bottles in the bins and tell them the bottles will become the seats of the Olympic swimming pool, it helps them learn about the importance of recycling waste,” said Augustin Jaclin from Lemon Tri. Of course, collecting plastic is one thing and turning it into Olympic chairs is another. Actually, it’s a very special kind of forest in cloudy mountains. There, clouds brush through trees and wet their leaves. Rain falls almost every day. Hundreds of mosses(苔藓) grow and cover everything like a soft, green coat. Plants of cloud forests live in an unusual way. They grow on the branches of trees instead of on the ground. The air is very damp, so plants can get all the water they need from the fog and rain. They live on the high parts of trees so that they can get more light to be stronger. There are many kinds of special animals in cloud forests. For example, tree kangaroos live in trees like monkeys. They use their long tails to balance just as monkeys do. Frogs have suckers(吸盘) on their toes so they can climb up trees and cross leaves easily. Many other special animals are waiting for us to discover, aren’t they? Cloud forests are important to people. They give us healthy food crops, such as wild beans, peppers, tomatoes, potatoes and strawberries. Furthermore, they offer new medicine to treat cancer. But what do other people think about your generation? Some adults worry that you’re more interested in the phone than the world around you. They see you as the “face-down generation” and wonder how you will deal with school, friends and family. Are today’s teenagers too busy texting and taking selfies (自拍) to become successful in real life, as you would say? Other adults worry that today’s youth are spoiled (宠坏的) and don’t want to face the challenges of adult life. Many children born in the 1990s and 2000s were raised by “helicopter parents (直升机家长)” who were always there to do everything for them. So today’s young people seem to prefer to live like teenagers even when they are in their 20s or 30s. Does the face-down generation need a heads-up? Well, probably not. The fact is that many of today’s teenagers are better educated and more creative than past generations. They also seem to be willing to become leaders. More young people are more willing to help their communities than ever. There are also brave young people such as Malala Yousafzai, the teenager who won the 2014 Noble Peace Prize for pushing girls’ rights to go to school. So if you are one of them born in the 2000s, there’s reason to be hopeful about the future. The latest World Happiness Report says that having much money is not the main reason for happiness. If you have real problems, you probably won’t be happy. But once your basic needs are met, money and new things become less important. True happiness comes more from recognizing (认识) the things you have and enjoying them, but not getting more things. Material things like phones and clothes can give us temporary joy, but it doesn’t last long. Think about all the presents you got for your birthday when you were little. At first, you were excited, but then you probably didn’t care about them. So what does bring true happiness? In fact, people with good relationships are happier. It’s important to feel safe and loved by the people around you. But happiness means you have to give and take. Doing kind things for people, for example, listening to a friend in need or helping neighbors, can make you feel great. Health is another key to happiness. Eating well and exercising for 20 to 30 minutes a day help your body release (释放) feel-good chemicals. So when you’re feeling worried, try going for a run or eating tasty food. You will also find that you sleep better. Talking of sleep, do you often wake up feeling terrible? If so, it’s probably because you haven’t had enough of it. Tiredness will influence your happiness level. It also stops you from focusing on (专注) your studies. So if you want to be happy and do well in school, make sure you get enough sleep every night. Now you know what to do. Start practicing! Smile, everyone! 1.How does the writer start Paragraph 1? A.By telling stories. B.By listing facts. C.By giving examples. Over the last year, thirty students between the ages of 21 and 25 took a year off from the university to work on developing the car used for travel off the public road. The car, called Stella Terra, is the first solar-powered car that can travel off-road for long distances without needing a recharging (充电) station. Being sad can happen pretty often. More than half of the teenagers go through a period of sadness at least once a month. When you are sad, it feels like it will last forever. The world seems dark and unfriendly. You might feel like you have nothing to look forward to. Many times, you cry, and it is hard to stop. Young, creative, connected, smart, maybe good-looking? But what do other people think about your generation? Some adults worry that you’re more interested in the phone than the world around you. They see you as the “face-down generation” and wonder how you will deal with school, friends and family. Are today’s teenagers too busy texting and taking selfies (自拍) to become successful in real life, as you would say? Other adults worry that today’s youth are spoiled (宠坏的) and don’t want to face the challenges of adult life. Many children born in the 1990s and 2000s were raised by “helicopter parents (直升机家长)” who were always there to do everything for them. Why do some people seem happier than others? Money, love or new things? Over the last year, thirty students between the ages of 21 and 25 took a year off from the university to work on developing the car used for travel off the public road. The car, called Stella Terra, is the first solar-powered car that can travel off-road for long distances without needing a recharging (充电) station. Like most electric cars, Stella Terra stores energy in a battery (电池). Thanks to its powerful solar panels (控制板) and its battery, when it’s sunny, the car can run for 440 miles (710 kilometers) a day. Stella Terra can carry two people, and has a top speed of 90 mph (145 kph). The car weighs just 2,600 pounds (1,200 kilograms). That’s about two-thirds the weight of a typical car. On the bottom, the team designed a system to help the car deal with the hits and heavy shaking that come when driving over rough (凹凸不平的) surfaces. The team recently took the car on its biggest test—a challenging 620-mile (1,000-kilometer) test drive across Morocco. The car had to travel through forests as well as dry riverbeds. It had to drive across loose desert sand and up steep mountain trails. The car succeeded in doing all of this— and all without ever stopping at a charging station. The team is very proud of their car, but they won’t be upset if car companies start to copy their ideas. In fact, they hope that Stella Terra will help give car companies good ideas to work on similar projects. 1.How old are the students that have designed and built a solar-powered car? A.21 years old.
