Your house may have an effect on your figure . Experts say the way you
design your home could play a role in whether you pack on the pounds or keep
them off . You can make your environment work for you instead of against you .
Here are some ways to turn your home into part of diet plan .
Open the curtains (窗帘) and turn up the lights . Dark environments are more
likely to encourage overeating , for people are often less self-consious (难为情的)

home doesn ' t have enough window light , get more lamps and flood the place
with brightness .
Mind the colors . Research suggests warm colors increase your appetites . In
one study , people who atemeals in a blue room consumed 33% less than those in
a yellow or red room .Warm colors like yellow make food appear more appetizing
(开胃的) , while cold colors make us feel less hungry . So when it ' s time to repaint,
go blue .
Don ' t forget the clock -- or the radio . People who eat slowly tend to
consume about 70 fewer calories 卡路里 per meal than those who rush through
their meals . Begin keeping track of the time , and try to make dinner last at least
30 minutes , And while you ' re at it , actually sit down to eat . If you need some
help slowing down , turn on relaxing music . It makes you less likely to rush
through a meal .
Downsize the dishs , Big serving bowls and plates can easily make us fat .We
eat about 22% more when using a 12-inch plate instead of a 10-inch plate .When
we choose a large spoon (勺) over a smaller one , total intake (摄入) jumps by 14%.
And we'll pour about 30% more liquid into a short , wide glass than a tall , skinny
glass .

As we age , even if we ' re healthy , the heart just isn ' t as efficient in
processing oxygen as it used to be . In most people the first signs show up in their
50s or early 60s. And among people who don ' t exercise , the changes can start
even sooner .
" Think of a rubber band (橡皮带) . In the beginning , it is flexible , but put it in
a drawer for 20 years and will become dry and easily broken ," says Dr . Ben
Levine , a heart specialist at the University of Texas . That ' s what happens to the
heart . Fortunately for those in midlife , Levine is finding that even if you haven ' t
been an enthusiastic exerciser , getting in shape now may help improve your
aging heart .
Levine and his research team selected volunteers aged between 45 and 64
who did not exercise much but were otherwise healthy. Participants were
randomly (随机地 ) divided into two groups . The first group participated in a
program of nonaerobic 无氧 exercise -- balance training and weight training --
three times a week . The second group did high-intensity (高强度的 ) aerobic
exercise under the guidance of a trainer for four or more days a week . After two
years , the second group saw remarkable improvements in heart health .
" We took these 50-year-old hearts and turned the clock back to 30-or 35-
year-old hearts ," says Levine ." And the reason they got so much stronger and
fitter was that their hearts could now fill a lot better and pump 泵送 a lot more
blood during exercise ." But the hearts of those who participated in less intense
exercise didn ' t change , he says .
" The sweet spot in life to start exercising , if you haven ' t already , is in late
middle age when the heart still has flexibility ," Levine says ." We put healthy 70-
year-olds through a year-long exercise training program , and nothing happened
to them at all ."
Dr . Nieca Goldbera . a spokeswoman for the American Heart Association ,
says Levine ' s findings are a great start . But the study was small and needs to be
repeated with far larger groups of people to determine exactly which aspects of
an exercise routine make the biggest difference .
32.What does Levine want to explain by mentioning the rubber band ?
A . The right way of exercising . B . The causes of a heart attack .
C . The aging process of the heart D . The difficulty of keeping fit .
33. In which aspect were the two groups different in terms of research design ?
A . Diet plan . B . Professional background .
C . Previous physical condition . D . Exercise type .
34. What does Levine ' s research find ?
A . It is never too late for people to start taking exercise .
B . High- intensity exercise is more suitable for the young .
C . Middle-aged hearts get younger with aerobic exercise
D . The more exercise we dothe stronger our hearts get.
35.What does Dr . Nieca Goldberg suggest ?
A . Conducting further research . B . Interviewing the study participants .
C . Making use of the findings . D . Clarifying the purpose of the study .

You shouldn ' t learn completely new fonts (字体 ), but rather develop and
improve your own handwriting . 36 The main thing is that your handwriting
is clear and easy to read . Pay attention to the following things while improving
5
your English handwriting .
The right writing tools . The right tools for writing are usually just as
important as the actual handwriting itself . It is particularly helpful to switch to a
fountain pen 钢笔 . 37 So feel free to try out different options .
38 Take enough time and think carefully about what you want it to look
like . The font should not only be beautiful , but you also have to find it pleasant
and different as it contains your personal features .
Air writing . Poor handwriting is often due to the fact that some muscles in
the arm are not well developed . Beautiful handwriting doesn ' t just come from
the hand , but from the whole arm . The easiest way to practice this is to write
words and even complete sentences in the air . 39
Pay attention to uniformity 统一性 . It ' s not just the letters that make for
beautiful handwriting . 40 That ' s why you should pay particular attention
to writing evenly (均匀地) when practicing . If your letters suddenly look crowded
or are larger than others , your handwriting will appear unclear .
