At the market, Mencius learned to sell things and welcome people. He also learned to kill pigs from butchers(屠夫). After a few days, Mencius could help butchers kill pigs.

Diwali, the Festival of Lights, is one of the biggest and most important celebrations in India. It marks the victory of light over darkness and good over evil(邪恶). It gets its name from the row of clay lamps that Indian people light outside their homes. The festival is between October and November, but the date changes each year because the Hindu calendar follows both the moon and the sun.
18
Diwali is a five-day festival. Each day has its own special traditions. On the first day, people clean their homes and buy gold or kitchen utensils(厨房用具) to bring good luck. On the second day, people use clay lamps and colourful designs to make their home prettier. The third day is the main day. Families pray(祈祷) to Goddess Lakshmi—the goddess of wealth, enjoy festive meals and light fireworks. On the fourth day, people visit friends and family with gifts and best wishes for the season. On the fifth day, adult brothers visit their married sisters, and the family shares a big meal.
19
Diwali is a happy time, but it also causes big environmental problems. Fireworks create a lot of air pollution, especially in northern India. They let out harmful chemicals(化学物质) and particles(颗粒). This year, pollution levels in New Delhi were 65 times higher than the World Health Organization’s limits(限制). This can lead to health problems like breathing difficulties and heart problems. Fireworks also create a lot of waste. Many fireworks can’t be recycled, so they end up in landfills(垃圾填埋场).

We use bricks to make houses on the earth, but
what about building things on the moon? Well, you use
“lunar bricks”, of course!
Scientists at the Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) have developed “lunar bricks”. They hope to use the bricks to build a base(基地) on the moon.
58
To make the bricks, the scientists used a lunar soil simulant(模拟月壤). The bricks are three times stronger than normal concrete(混凝土) bricks or red bricks. They also have mortise and tenon joint structures(榫卯结构), which were used in ancient Chinese buildings. This makes it possible to simply put these bricks together.
59
Professor Zhou Cheng from HUST told Xinhua that they had tested five different kinds of simulated(模拟的) lunar soils and used three ways to harden them. This helped them choose the best materials for making the bricks. “Lunar soils aren’t the same everywhere on the moon, ” Zhou added. For example, one of the kinds tested simulates the lunar soil at the landing site of Chang’e-5, which is mainly basalt(玄武岩).
The lunar bricks need to be tested well before being used because the moon has an extreme environment. Quakes(月震) often happen there, and cosmic radiation(宇宙辐射) is high. It gets as hot as 180℃ during the day and as cold as -190℃ at night.
60
The lunar bricks were sent to China’s space station on the Tianzhou-8 spacecraft. There, scientists are now checking how well the bricks do in space.
The first brick is expected to return to the earth by the end of 2025. China hopes to build a lunar research station between 2028 and 2035.
