Mr. Boswell, the owner of a hardware (五金制品) store, was looking for a young man to hire. Several dozen young men responded to his ad, but he eventually narrowed his choice down to three. They are Ted, John and Bob. Then he devised (设计) a final test. He gave each of them a new screwdriver (螺丝刀) with an innovative (创新的) design and told them to deliver it to Mr. Henderson at 314 Maple Street.
After a while, Ted phoned the store to ask whether the number was actually 413, rather than 314. Later, he returned saying there was no house at that address.
When John came back, he reported that 314 Maple was a funeral parlor (殡葬馆) and that Mr. Henderson had lived at 314, but had moved away.
Bob took longer than the other two young men. Like John, he also discovered that Mr. Henderson had moved away but he managed to make sure of his new address and had gone there. Mr. Henderson didn’t remember ordering the screwdriver, but when Bob pointed out its unique features and told him the price, Mr. Henderson decided he wanted the screwdriver and paid for it on the spot.
Who was hired? Bob, of course. He was given a task to do and he did it. We shouldn’t let any difficulty put in our paths and stop us from reaching our goals. The secret to success in our lives is to do the common things uncommonly well. Persistence (坚持) and patience produces payoff in our lives. Even when it doesn’t appear to do so, it produces a payoff in character.

根据最后一段“Who was hired? Bob, of course. He was given a task to do and he did it. We shouldn't let any difficulty put in our paths and stop us from reaching our goals. The secret to success in our lives is to do the common things uncommonly well. Persistence (坚持) and patience produces payoff in our lives. Even when it doesn't appear to do so, it produces a payoff in character. Persistence and patience leads to success. 或者Persistence and patience produces payoff in our lives.
根据第一段中的“He gave each of them a new screwdriver (螺丝刀) with an innovative (创新的) design and told them (他给了他们每人一个新设计新颖的螺丝刀,并让他们)”和“to Mr. Henderson at 314 Maple Street (到枫树街314号的亨德森那里)”可知,他给了他们每人一个新设计新颖的螺丝刀,并让他们把它送到枫树街314号的亨德森那里。 Send./ Give./ Present.

Henderson didn’t remember ordering the screwdriver, but when Bob pointed out its unique features and told him the price, Mr. Henderson decided he wanted the screwdriver and paid for it on the spot. (亨德森先生不记得订购了这把螺丝刀,但当鲍勃指出它的独特之处并告诉他价格时,亨德森决定要这把螺丝刀,并当场付款。)”可知,Mr. Henderson接受螺丝刀是因为Bob向他指出了螺丝刀的独特之处并告知价格,他被鲍勃说服了。故答案为:He was persuaded by Bob.
根据文章最后一段“Who was hired? Bob, of course. He was given a task to do and he did it. We shouldn't let any difficulty put in our paths and stop us from reaching our goals. The secret to success in our lives is to do the common things uncommonly well. Persistence (坚持) and patience produces payoff in our lives. Even when it doesn't appear to do so, it produces a payoff in character. (谁被录用了?当然是鲍勃。给了他一个任务,他完成了。我们不应该让任何困难挡在我们的道路上,阻止我们实现目标。人生成功的秘诀就是把平凡的事情做得不平凡。坚持和耐心会给我们的生活带来回报。即使它看起来没有这样做,它也会给角色带来回报。)”可知,成功生活的秘诀在于把平常的事情做得特别好,而且要有毅力和耐心。故答案为:Doing common things uncommonly well and having persistence and patience.

Lee Shapiro is a retired judge. At one point in his career, Lee realized that love is the greatest power there is. As a result, Lee became a hugger. He began offering everybody a hug. His colleagues called him “the hugging judge”.
About six years ago Lee created what he calls his Hugger Kit. On the outside it reads “A heart for a hug,” and there are 30 little hearts inside. Lee will go around to people and offer them a little red heart in exchange for a hug.

Before Christmas last year I found a charity that was looking for workers to show care to the elderly. I wrote to the charity and asked if I could send gifts to some elderly people of their choosing, and some Christmas cards to more elderly shut-ins Thankfully they consented.
I left the cards unsealed (未封口的) so the recipients could read the messages. I became really enthusiastic about the project designing colorful decorations on the cards to make them personal. I signed my name and the charity’s name to avoid any confusion about who I was. I left it to the charity to decide who would best receive a card. This was so much fun!
I loved sending these cards to elderly people who might not receive much attention during the holidays. If I had had more money, I would have given more gifts, but I could only send about 20 little gift bags containing candy, special soap, towels, and other items. Despite this, it was a great pleasure for me. The charity kindly wrapped my gifts with the paper I provided and delivered everything to recipients all over the area. According to them, the gifts were much appreciated. I hope so.
But I know I was the one who benefited most. It was a joy trying to cheer up strangers who I knew would be shut-ins due to illness during the holidays. To me, it was truly a glorious experience! Such a little thing to do, but maybe it made at least one person smile. I truly hope so. That was my intention — to spread love and hope for the best.
Reflecting on the experience, I realize how meaningful it was. The joy of knowing that I might have brightened someone’s day, even if just for a moment, was incredibly fulfilling. It reinforced the idea that small acts of kindness can have a big impact I look forward to continuing this tradition and finding new ways to bring joy to those who need it most.
46.What is the meaning of the underlined word in Paragraph 1? (1 word)
47.Why did the author sign his name and the charity’s name on the cards? (no more than 10 words)
48.What kind of people did the author want to send his cards to? (no more than 10 words)
49.Why did the author think he was the one who benefited most? (no more than 15 words)
50.How does the author’s story inspire you to help others? Please explain. (no more than 25 words)
46.Agreed. 47.To make the elderly know who sent them the cards./To make the elderly know who sent the cards to them. / To avoid any confusion about who the sender was. 48.The elderly who might receive less attention during the holidays. 49.Because it’s a joy trying to make elderly shut-ins happy during the holidays./ Because trying to cheer up strangers was a joy, it was a glorious experience. 50.I will actively participate in community activities and talk face to face with lonely elderly people. Because conversation can help them get rid of loneliness.

I wrote to the charity and asked if I could send gifts to some elderly people of their choosing, and some Christmas cards to more elderly shut-ins 及“Thankfully(谢天谢地)”以及下文“I left the cards unsealed (未封口的) so the recipients could read the messages. I became really enthusiastic about the project designing colorful decorations on the cards to make them personal.”(我卡片没有封口,这样收信人就能读到留言。

I’m not sure whether anyone ever expects to go to their local animal shelter in order to see a large rabbit. I certainly don’t. Last spring, I went there for one of my regular volunteer jobs. On arriving, I was greeted by Chuck, the director of the shelter, with a heart y recommendation, “You’ve got to see what’s in the ‘Welcome Room’ today!”
I was used to seeing an unexpected lizard or parrot, but I was not prepared for a big rabbit that filled the cage. It sat quietly eating something while I watched it in surprise. I said, “It’s too huge!” Then Chuck said, “Look!” He pushed a stick through the cage and raised the rabbit’s middle part a little. Much to my surprise, a small gray kitten was lying there.
“What is this?” I asked, shocked to see another living animal of a completely different species hidden peacefully under a rabbit.
“It’s strange, huh?” Chuck laughed, “A man in Town Acres called yesterday afternoon, saying there was a huge rabbit in his backyard that had been sitting there for a full day, and it hadn’t moved an inch. He thought it was injured, so he and his family went out to look at it. It’s a French Lop rabbit, and she’s surely somebody’s pet. There is no doubt about it. But she still didn’t move when they got close, and when they went to pick her up, that little kitten was right underneath her—just like he is now. And when they tried to separate them, that kitten cried! It was like being separated from his mother.”
“Animals are interesting, huh?” I said.
“I wonder how those two got connected.”
“Well, it has been shrouded in mystery,” Chuck said. “Up to now, we have not found any scientific proof,” It certainly was strange, and for the next three days, everyone at the shelter called this unusual pair The Gray Duo. I guessed they got together because both of them needed a companion (同伴) to give them love and care.
51.Why did the author go to the animal shelter? (no more than 10 words)
52.What made the author feel so surprised? (no more than 10 words)

A big rabbit that filled the cage.
Chuck laughed, ‘A man in Town Acres called yesterday afternoon, saying there was a huge rabbit in his backyard that had been sitting there for a full day, and it hadn’t moved an inch. He thought it was injured, so he and his family went out to look at it. It’s a French Lop rabbit, and she’s surely somebody’s pet. There is no doubt about it. It was like being separated from his mother.’ Because there was a huge rabbit in his backyard without moving all day.
根据文章最后一段“ ‘Up to now, we have not found any scientific proof,’ It certainly was strange, and for the next three days, everyone at the shelter called this unusual pair The Gray Duo. (“到目前为止,我们还没有找到任何科学证据。”这确实很奇怪,在接下来的三天里,收容所的每个人都把这对不寻常的夫妇称为“灰色二人组”。)”他们没有找到证据,猫和兔子为什么要在一起;可知,画线部分应该指的是“这是一件神秘的事情”。故答案为这是一件神秘的事情。
55.推理判断题。根据文章最后一段“. I guessed they got together because both of them needed a companion(同伴) to give them love and care. (我猜他们在一起是因为他们都需要一个伴侣给他们爱和关心。)”可知,作者猜测猫和兔子在一起是因为他们需要一个伴侣给他们爱和关系;所以动物和人类一样需要有一个伴侣来分享爱和关心。故答案为Both human and animals need a companion to share love and care.

Once upon a time, in a little village called Charmington, there lived a shy and unconfident girl named Lily. Lily was a kind-hearted soul, but her lack of self-assurance often led her to doubt her own beauty and worth.
One sunny day, as Lily wandered through the streets of Charmington, she came across a charming little shop filled with shining hair accessories (配饰). Among the treasures, her eyes were attracted by a lovely bow (蝴蝶结) that seemed to callout to her.

Despite her hesitation, something inside Lily told her to take a small act of self-expression and pay for the bow. She bought it and gently put it in her hair. At that very moment, a magical transformation took place. Lily felt a burst of confidence, as if the bow had given her a newfound confidence and charm.
Excited about her new accessory, Lily confidently walked down the busy streets of Charmington, unaware that the bow had slipped and dropped unnoticed from her hair. Her newfound confidence made her feel beautiful inside and out. As Lily walked, something amazing began to happen. People passing by couldn’t help but notice her beauty, the warmth that shined from herself. Strangers smiled at her, complimenting her on her look and bright smile.
Confused by their compliments, Lily touched her hair, only to realize that the bow was missing.
