I was traveling with my husband and three teenage sons in the United States. We ordered our food at a fast-food place, and with my meal I also wanted a blueberry pie. My husband is the chatty one in the family and likes to socialize, so he started a conversation about the place where blueberries grow with the waitress. She answered, with some anxiety, “They grow on trees.”
The whole family’s jaws dropped! How could this girl not know where blueberries grow? We tried not to embarrass her, and just took the opportunity to teach her a little about how blueberries grow, on small shrubs (灌木) on the ground. She seemed to appreciate learning something new. We can’t know all the same things, as you’ll see from the next thing I’m going to tell you.
In 2002 our family made a short trip to a coffee plantation. The road to the plantation was narrow, filled with sharp bends. I worried about hitting another car. We didn’t, lucky us! When we finally got to our destination, we learned a lot about the plantation and coffee production, but we didn’t see any coffee plants. Where were they? We decided to ask one of the people working there. “So where are the coffee plants? We can’t see them anywhere.”
She reached out her arm and caught a twig (细枝) right next to us and explained, “This is the coffee plant and these little things will be coffee beans.” I looked around in embarrassment, as we were surrounded by coffee plants! She explained that coffee plants aren’t big and that they have to grow in the shade of other bigger plants. I appreciated her lesson.
We love our coffee, but I’m sure most of my countrymen would not be able to recognize a coffee plant among other tropical plants if asked. Our jaws can drop at different things, depending on geographical locations, at what we know and don’t know. Never take anything for granted!
4. By saying “The whole family’s jaws dropped!”, the author means that ________.
A. the waitress was extremely ignorant B. the waitress gave the strangest answer
C. the whole family was greatly surprised D. the whole family had problems with their mouths
5. What’s our attitude towards the waitress’s ignorance (无知) about blueberry plant?
A. Tolerant. B. Ironic. C. Indifferent. D. Pitiful.
6. What can we learn about the blueberry plant and the coffee plant?
A. They produce the same beans. B. They grow in the tropical areas.
C. They look very similar to each other. D. They are shrubs growing on the ground.
7. What message does the author want to convey in the passage?
A. The pot calls the kettle black. B. Two heads are better than one.
C. Don’t judge a, book by its cover. D. There are spots even on the sun.

A high school teacher and his students have discovered that an asteroid (小行星) hit by a NASA spacecraft, in a test run for saving the Earth from an impact, is behaving unexpectedly. The find could have effects on future planetary defense missions.
The Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) is a project designed to launch and crash a fridge-sized spacecraft into an asteroid called Dimorphos, orbiting a larger asteroid Didymos. The purpose of the exercise was to see how significantly the previous path of Dimorphos could be changed by the impact. Before DART’s impact, it would take Dimorphos 11 hours and 55 minutes to complete a lap around Didymos. NASA was hoping the DART crash could change the cycle by about 73 seconds, but observations made in the weeks following the impact determined that the results were much more significant, reducing Dimorphos’ orbital period by some 33 minutes.
But California high school teacher Jonathan Swift and his students discovered that Dimorphos’ orbital period was a full minute longer than the time reported by NASA last year. They used the school’s observatory to track Dimorphos and Didymos for several months last fall. Swift presented his class’ findings at the American Astronomical Society conference in June. The DART team has since confirmed that Dimorphos did indeed continue slowing in its orbit up to a month after the impact.
Scientists aren’t sure exactly what is behind the slowdown of Dimorphos. But recent observations of the asteroid have revealed a vast field of large rocks were kicked up by the impact. It’s possible that some of the larger space rocks fell back onto Dimorphos within that first month, slowing its orbit further, DART team member Harrison Agrusa said.
The DART team plans to release its own report on the unexpected findings in the coming weeks. However, complete answers may have to wait until 2026, when the European Space Ageney’s Hera spacecraft is scheduled to investigate the crash site up closely.
8. What was the purpose of launching the NASA spacecraft?
A. To change Dimorphos’ orbital cycle.
B. To stop Dimorphos hitting the Earth.
C. To reduce Didymos’ path around the sun.
D. To make Didymos move in a bigger orbit.
9. How much did Swift and his students find the asteroid’s orbital period shortened by?
A. 1 full minute. B. 2 minutes or so.
C. Nearly 33 minutes. D. About 32 minutes.
10. What does the author intend to tell us in paragraph 4?
A. How seriously Dimorphos was damaged.
B What happened to the rocks on Dimorphos.
C. Why Dimorphos slowed down for a month.
D. What Dimorphos looked like after the impact.
11. What can be the Hera spacecraf’s task?
A. To crash into another asteroid nearby.
B. To measure the previous impact results.
C. To affect the motion of the twin asteroids.
D. To identify the asteroids threatening the Earth.

Before uploading a photo of ourselves to social media, the chances are that we’ll use an app to smooth our skin, enlarge our eyes, and sharpen our jawlines. With a couple of taps on our mobile phones, we can get a quick fix and present the “best” version of ourselves to the world. However, the problem is that when we simply edit out our imperfections, we’re also changing the way we look at ourselves.
Last month, researchers published the article Selfies—Living in the Era of Filtered Photographs. The article analyzed photo editing apps’ bad influences on people’s self-respect and their possibility of causing anxiety about appearance. The researchers also warned that such apps might make the young generation misjudge themselves. “These apps allow one to change his or her appearance in minutes and follow an unrealistic standard of beauty,” the article read.
In the past, people may have compared their looks to those of famous persons. But for today’s young people, beauty standards are most likely set by what they see on social media. “From birth, they are born into an age of social platforms where their feelings of self-worth can be based purely on the number of likes and followers that they have, which is linked to how good they look,” British cosmetic doctor Tijion Esho told The Independent. This is why many young people suffer an identity trouble when it comes to appearance.
“Now you’ve got this daily comparison of your real self to the fake self that you present on social media,” Renee Engeln, professor of psychology, told the HuffPost website. Engeln further pointed out that when people spent too much time making such comparisons, they might become “beauty sick” and find it difficult to accept what they actually look like. “Because between you and the world is a mirror, and it’s a mirror that travels with you everywhere. You can’t seem to put it down,” she told The Washington Post. So when we look at ourselves in a real mirror, we shouldn’t think, “Do I look as good as myself in the filtered photos?” Instead, we should think, “I feel good; I have my health.”
12. Before uploading a photo to social media, what will we probably do?
A. We will probably have an operation to make our eyes look bigger.
B. We will probably use a cream to smooth our skin.
C. We will probably use an app to fix our photos.
D. We will probably edit some text.
13. What can we learn from Paragraph 2?
A. In many ways, photo editing apps are beneficial to people.
B. Photo editing apps are likely to cause people’s anxiety about their appearance.
C. Photo editing apps can make us more beautiful.
D. Photo editing apps help people judge realistic beauty.
14. When it comes to appearance, why do many young people suffer an identity trouble?
A. Because they compare their looks to those of famous persons.
B. Because beauty standards are set by social media.
C. Because their feelings of self-worth depend on their own likes and dislikes.
D. Because their feelings of self-worth depend on their appearance.
15. According to Engeln, we should ________.
A. feel good about what we actually look like
B. spend more time making comparisons of our real self to the fake self
C. take a mirror with us everywhere
D. try to look as good as ourselves in the filtered photos

根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
How to Be Happy for Your Friend, Even when You’re a Little Jealous
The most basic friendship duty is rooting for your bestie (死党). At minimum, you should jump for joy when told they’ve landed a dream job, for example. Easy enough, right? ____16____. Even if you truly want to see them succeed, the ultra-modern three-bedroom house they just bought might feel like a slap in the face if you’re still living in a shoebox apartment. So, if you’re struggling with friendship envy, these suggestions might help you.
____17____.
Jealousy sounds quite negative, but it’s completely normal. If you shame yourself for it, you might miss an opportunity for self-reflection. Instead of judging yourself, acknowledge these feelings head-on. Embrace that you’re bitter or even scared you’ll never experience a career high like your bestie.
Separate your worth from your accomplishments.
____18____. But it’s important to remember that your self-worth doesn’t come from attaining external things. We know it sounds pretty cliche (陈词滥调), but taking a step back and redefining what achievement and happiness mean to you can help you avoid falling into the comparison trap.
Remember: It’s not a competition.
It makes sense that a friend’s success may feel like a threat. When they’re progressing in their life, you must be falling behind in yours, right? The simple answer: No! ____19____. One way to abandon this unhealthy mindset is to rely on facts and reality rather than hypothetical scenarios or assumptions.
It’s totally okay to experience occasional waves of envy even with the people you genuinely want to see happy. What truly defines you as a friend is how you handle these emotions. If you need a little space to lick your wounds after receiving a close pal’s exciting news, just do it. ____20____.
A. Acknowledge your bitter or envious feelings.
B. Reflect on yourself about feeling ashamed of jealousy.
C. Instead, you can definitely grow into a more caring friend.
D. However, celebrating your friend’s milestones can become a little more complicated.
E. That doesn’t make you a fool— it makes you human.
F. You need to let go of this idea that if they’re winning something, that means you’re losing.
G. There are expectations what success is supposed to be in our achievement-driven society.

第二节 (满分25分)
47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Most people think that procrastination (拖延症) is a negative habit. But people like me who routinely put off doing assignments, are likely to defend our “slower” approach to getting tasks done.
I'm the only procrastination in my family. My parents and sister were all born with the “do it right now” gift. They are always in a rush, as if closely rushed by an invisible deadline. Personally, I prefer a more relaxed pace. When my parents voiced their concern about my tendencies, saying “Don’t put off until tomorrow what you can do today,” “No way!” I responded, confidently presenting my research as a defense. It said people procrastinated when they need to solve a problem or commit to a topic or project. In these cases, delaying a decision can be beneficial. This was because our minds continue to reflect on problems even when we were not actively thinking about them, which could lead to more creative solutions. My findings filled me with satisfaction and pride. My method of getting things done was just as good as my sister’s…or so I thought.
At school we’d been talking about architecture and design. As part of the final assessment my teacher Mr. Smith announced an exciting project that each student would have a month to complete. We were expected to choose our materials, construct a small building and make use of things we had learned in class. Not only would the winners receive extra credit, but the winning constructions would be proudly displayed in the cafeteria. “I have no clue how I could get it done,” my friend Nate sighed in despair. I didn’t say anything. Not because I shared his anxiety but because I was not nervous at all. I loved hands-on projects! Picturing my brilliant work exhibited in the cafeteria, I was fully convinced that I would definitely produce something that could impress everyone. So relaxed was I that I didn’t give it a second thought for weeks.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Before I knew it, I had only one day left for the project.

Say No to AI-Generated Essays
Recently, an alarming trend has emerged: some classmates are using AI to generate essays for homework. Instead of writing independently, they rely on AI, treating it as a shortcut to avoid the hard work of crafting essays.
This problem stems from multiple factors. Heavy academic workloads leave some students overwhelmed, while others lack the confidence to write well. Fear of falling short of teachers’ expectations also drives them to use AI.
However, this practice is detrimental. Writing is a way to develop thinking and express ideas. We should use AI wisely, like for grammar checks or inspiration, not as a substitute for real effort. Let’s abandon this misuse and embrace authentic writing.
第二节 (满分25分)
【47题答案】
【答案】Para.1 Before I knew it, I had only one day left for the project. In a panic I hastily and quickly glued together what I pulled out from our recycle bin, my hands shaking with the weight of each hasty decision. The finished result looked miserable. Several of my classmates, including Nate, had created amazingly detailed constructions. They used materials like clay, wood and so on and were highly praised by Mr. Smith. When I saw their models, I felt even more embarrassed about mine. It was obvious that they had put a lot more time into the assignment than I had.
Para.2 That taught me a great lesson. I learnt from that day the importance of deciding on my priorities and budgeting my time. From then on, I tackled things a lot earlier instead of putting things off until tomorrow. As a result, not only did I finish my tasks on time, but also I felt better because I didn’t have to panic at the last minute. At the end of the semester, my work was chosen by Mr Smith on another occasion. Seeing my change, my parents and my sister were so proud of me. It dawned on me that getting things done on time instead of being a procrastinator really counted.
