When I injured my back several years ago, I had to take a break from running. I decided to introduce more women to the sport, to show them how much fun it can be and to give them confidence to get out and run. I decided to start a running club for women in my area. I put up advertisements and 40 women joined. All of them were attracted by the idea of dropping some pounds, but I don’t think they had really thought about running before. When or if they did, they had a picture of painful training. They didn’t think of chatting or smiling while running in beautiful places, like by a river. At first they ran for only a minute. Now they can run for thirty minutes. I’ve had so much pleasure watching their progress — almost as much as they’ve had themselves. A Whether you call Germany home or are just visiting, going to festivals is a great way to experience the country’s culture. Xu, 37, developed an interest in capturing animals on camera when she was a child, always dreaming of traveling the world with a camera. Before she fully embraced a career in wildlife photography, she was engaged in journalism after earning her master’s degree from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. The turning point came during a trip to Antarctica, where Xu witnessed penguin parents fearlessly defending their chicks from intruders. The moment left a deep impression on her and deepened her passion for immersing herself in nature. In 2018, Xu made the life-changing decision to leave her job and pursue wildlife photography full-time. Last year, in Yunnan province, Xu went through a tough early morning climb up a mountain to capture the elusive green peafowl. After enduring hours of rain and sweltering heat, as the sun broke out and cast light on the hillside in the afternoon, she finally made it. As if on cue, a male peafowl’s call echoed through the valley. “It was a moment of breathtaking beauty,” she recalled. Besides, Xu is also a well-known influencer of wildlife knowledge, and she hopes to trigger more actions to care about the planet through her photos. “Too often, we don’t learn about a species until it’s extinct, but it’s too late. We should pay more attention to saving endangered species.” she said. During a journey to film the golden kaiserihind, the only butterfly on the list of first-class national protected wild animals in China, Xu met an elderly wildlife protector who voiced his concerns about the lack of people devoted to protecting the species. “Shortly after I published my photos of golden kaiserihind, he shared a picture of volunteers with me, saying that they hoped to join the conservation efforts after seeing my images,” Xu said, “Wildlife photography seems to have shifted from being a pastime for the elderly. The participation of the growing number of youths inspires me with a positive outlook.” 24. What caused Xu to switch her career to wildlife photography? A. Her master’s degree in journalism. B. A childhood dream of global travel. C. An experience in Antarctica with Penguins. D. The discovery of the golden kaiserihind butterfly. 25. What challenges did Xu face while photographing the green peafowl in Yunnan? A. Lack of equipment and funds. B. Conflicts with local communities. C. Technical difficulties with her camera. D. Extreme weather conditions and physical challenges. 26. Which of the following can best describe Xu Keyi? A. Ambitious and impatient. B. Devoted and determined. C. Cautious and humorous. D. Independent and responsible 27. What’s probably Xu Keyi’s attitude towards youth involvement in wildlife conservation? A. Indifferent. B. Critical. C. Optimistic. D. Doubtful. 24. C 25. D 26. The moment left a deep impression on her and deepened her passion for immersing herself in nature. In 2018, Xu made the life-changing decision to leave her job and pursue wildlife photography full-time. 根据第四段“Last year, in Yunnan province, Xu went through a tough early morning climb up a mountain to capture the elusive green peafowl. After enduring hours of rain and sweltering heat, as the sun broke out and cast light on the hillside in the afternoon, she finally made it. 根据第三段中“In 2018, Xu made the life-changing decision to leave her job and pursue wildlife photography full-time. 以及第四段“Last year, in Yunnan province, Xu went through a tough early morning climb up a mountain to capture the elusive green peafowl. After enduring hours of rain and sweltering heat, as the sun broke out and cast light on the hillside in the afternoon, she finally made it. 根据最后一段中“The participation of the growing number of youths inspires me with a positive outlook. C。 C I recently made a new friend, and we became Instagram mutuals right away. From her posts, I was getting a sense of what she does on the weekends and what she likes to cook. As I learned about her hobbies and how many brothers she has, I also noticed how much the act of sharing personal details has developed. Who needs to know what she’s buying at the farmer’s market or how long she waited for the subway? But none of her followers bat an eye, and they shared similarly about their activities. One definition of oversharing put forward by a 2012 psychology paper is that it’s an “excessive generosity with information about one’s private life or the private lives of others”. Of course, what’s considered “excessive” is open to interpretation. Influencers, for example, share a lot because they’re getting paid to do so. But with the Internet, non-influencers gained more spaces to share and overshare. The ways and amount people share online can differ from their offline lives. The sociologist Ben Agger wrote in the book Oversharing: Presentations of Self in the Internet Age that a person oversharing online is revealing “more of their inner feelings and opinions than they would in person, or even over the phone”. Oversharing can come with negative mental side effects because it can influence actual life experiences. For example, at a gathering, a person might become focused on taking a good picture for social media. Then he loses the real pleasure of spending time with his friend. Yet revealing information about ourselves is part of how we communicate who we are. So sharing online isn’t a bad thing: When interacting in person or online, people seek to learn about each other. It’s not just nosiness: This information helps define what people can expect from one another, and what their relationship will be. Agger wrote that just like a play involves a stage and a backstage, social life does, too. The front is where the actor performs, and backstage is where they prepare for the role. It’s easy to apply these thoughts to the Internet and social media: The Internet is the stage where we present our activities and thoughts, and backstage is offline. Spend too much time in either place, and you might miss out. 28. Why does the author mention the new friend in paragraph 1? A. To lead in the main topic. B. To share her personal information. C. To persuade people to be her followers. D. To encourage people to hold activities. 29. What can be inferred about oversharing from the second paragraph? A. People always overshare in social life. B. The standard of oversharing is unfixed. C. Non-influencers pay to overshare personal details. D. Influencers have more spaces to overshare online. 30. What negative mental side effect of oversharing is mentioned in the text? A. Disliking offline communication. B. Having fewer friends in real life. C. Forgetting to prepare for social gatherings. D. Losing real-life pleasures while focusing on social media. 31. According to Agger, what can the Internet and social media be seen as? A. A backstage of social life. B. A place where we present ourselves. C. A replacement for offline communication. D. A place where we should spend most of our time. A 29. B 30. D 31. 故选A项。 根据第二段“One definition of oversharing put forward by a 2012 psychology paper is that it’s an “excessive generosity with information about one’s private life or the private lives of others”. Of course, what’s considered “excessive” is open to interpretation. 根据第三段“Oversharing can come with negative mental side effects because it can influence actual life experiences. For example, at a gathering, a person might become focused on taking a good picture for social media. Then he loses the real pleasure of spending time with his friend. 根据最后一段“Agger wrote that just like a play involves a stage and a backstage, social life does, too. The front is where the actor performs, and backstage is where they prepare for the role. It’s easy to apply these thoughts to the Internet and social media: The Internet is the stage where we present our activities and thoughts, and backstage is offline. D Eggs: fragile. The words follow almost automatically. The features which make the eggshell a suitable container for a developing chick embryo are not necessarily those that make the shell suitable for the eggs in your supermarket basket. Every year, egg producers count the cost of the millions of eggs with shells damaged or broken before they reach the consumer — between 6 and 8 percent of all eggs laid. Worldwide, this damage costs the producers more than $600 million. Engineers and biologists have devoted many years to the fundamental problem that you don’t have to hit an egg very hard before it breaks. They have tried to reduce the impact on eggs from the moment they are laid until they reach the supermarket shelves. They redesigned cage floors to reduce the impact on eggs as they are laid, and chicken farms collect eggs more frequently to minimise collisions on rollaways. Despite these efforts, cracked and broken eggs remain a serious problem for the poultry industry. We need stronger eggshells. However, anyone who has tried to squeeze a chicken egg from end to end knows that it is almost impossible to break that way. Eggshells are surprisingly strong. In a study published in the Journal of the Royal Society Interface, researchers measured the strength of a lot of different eggs. The eggs ranged in size from quail to ostrich. The results? Well, chicken eggs had a compressive strength of 100 pounds. Ostrich eggs were closer to an impressive 1,000 pounds. How is it that chicken eggs manage to resist fracture (抗破裂) from the outside while, at the same time, can be broken open from the inside by a tiny chick? It’s all in the eggshell structure. To find out, a team of researchers from several different fields, took a very close look at the molecular nanostructure and mechanical properties of the incredible egg. It turns out that eggshells are made of both inorganic and organic matter. The amazing strength of eggs comes from a nanostructured mineral associated with osteopontin, a protein also found in composite biological materials such as our bones. The secret lies also in the dome shape. When weight is placed on the dome, the weight is spread evenly throughout the eggshell. That way there isn’t one heavier point of load. Arches and domes are used in many forms of architecture including bridges and roofs. 32. Why does the author mention broken eggs in paragraph 1? A. To highlight eggs’ fragility and the financial loss. B. To suggest that broken eggs are unavoidable. C. To raise egg prices in supermarkets for profit. D. To encourage stronger eggshell development. 33. What does the underlined word in paragraph 2 mean? A. Hits. B. Tensions. C. Exposures. D. Interruptions. 34. What makes chicken eggs resistant to external pressure? A. Even surface of the eggshell. B. Light weight of chicken eggs. C. Molecular structure of the shell. D. Only organic matter in the shell. 35. What could be the best title for this text? A. Reducing the Fragility of Eggs. B. Cracking the Secret of Eggshells. C. Uncovering the Role of Osteopontin. D. Exploring Solutions for Egg Breakage. A 33. A 34. C 35. 根据第一段“Every year, egg producers count the cost of the millions of eggs with shells damaged or broken before they reach the consumer — between 6 and 8 percent of all eggs laid. Worldwide, this damage costs the producers more than $600 million.(每年,鸡蛋生产商都会计算在到达消费者手中之前数百万个蛋壳受损或破碎的成本 —— 占所有产蛋量的 6% 到 8%。 故选A。 根据第二段“Engineers and biologists have devoted many years to the fundamental problem that you don’t have to hit an egg very hard before it breaks. They have tried to reduce the impact on eggs from the moment they are laid until they reach the supermarket shelves. They redesigned cage floors to reduce the impact on eggs as they are laid, and chicken farms collect eggs more frequently to minimise collisions on rollaways.(工程师和生物学家们已经花了很多年去研究一个基本问题,那就是鸡蛋在没有被很用力击打的情况下也会破碎。 故选A。 根据最后一段“How is it that chicken eggs manage to resist fracture from the outside while, at the same time, can be broken open from the inside by a tiny chick? It’s all in the eggshell structure. To find out, a team of researchers from several different fields, took a very close look at the molecular nanostructure and mechanical properties of the incredible egg.(为什么鸡蛋能够抵抗来自外部的破裂,同时又能被一只小鸡从内部啄开呢? Have you ever asked yourself, “How many clothes do I need?” or “How many shirts should I own?” ____36____ consider just for a moment how your life would look if you owned a minimalist (极简主义者) wardrobe of fewer clothes: You would have more disposable (可支配的) income. You would have more time to live your life. Mornings would feature less stress. Laundry days would be easier. You may be surprised at how much you enjoy the freedom that a minimalist closet brings. ____37____ Wear fewer colors Most of us already have a few favorite colors that we wear most often anyway — usually because we like the way we look in them. Choosing to intentionally wear fewer colors means fewer accessories (配饰) (shoes, belts, jewelry, handbags, etc.). It also makes too much sense not to try. Embrace the idea of one When one can be enough, embrace it — one black dress, one swimsuit, one winter coat, one black belt, one pair of black shoes, one pair of sneakers, one handbag… ____38____ Donate, sell, recycle, discard Depending on the size of one’s existing wardrobe, an initial paring down won’t take long. Make a few piles — donate, sell, or recycle. ____39____ You’ll be surprised how much you can remove and just how close you are to owning a minimalist closet once you build momentum. ____40____ Only buy minimalist clothing that you truly love — even if it costs more. If you stock your closet full of things you love, you will have less desire to add to it, which will make maintaining a minimalist closet a lot easier. Impress with your character, not your clothes. She had lived in the same house for over 50 years and knew almost everyone in the neighborhood. She especially liked the teenagers who lived next door, a group of kids who always seemed to be up to something. One day, Mrs. Johnson noticed that the kids seemed to be going through a tough time. They were skipping school, getting into trouble, and seemed lost and directionless. Mrs. Johnson knew that something needed to be done to help these kids, so she decided to take action. The first thing she did was to invite the kids over for cookies and drinks. They were hesitant at first, but Mrs. Johnson’s warm smile and kind words quickly put them at ease. Over the course of the afternoon, she listened carefully as the kids shared their hopes and dreams, their fears and frustrations. She didn’t judge them or lecture them, but simply offered a listening ea r and a shoulder to lean on. As the weeks went by, Mrs. Johnson continued to reach out to the kids. She would invite them over for dinner or take them on outings to the park, the library, or the movies. She would encourage them to talk about their interests and talents, and help them find their passions, set goals, and pursue their dreams. Mrs. Johnson became a guiding light for the neighborhood kids. One of the kids, a boy named David, was particularly talented in music. He had a natural gift for playing the guitar and writing songs, but had never been given the chance to pursue his passion. Mrs. Johnson knew that David’s genius for music was too great to go unnoticed, so she took it upon herself to help David find a way to share his talent with the world. Mrs. Johnson contacted the community center and arranged for David to perform at a show. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ After the show, David was full of joy and excitement. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Mrs. Johnson contacted the community center and arranged for David to perform at a show. He ran to Mrs. Johnson and said, “Thank you for everything you have done, Mrs. Johnson. With your encouragement and help, I have found my purpose in life.” With a big smile on her face, Mrs. Johnson hugged David and said, “You have done all the hard work yourself. When I injured my back several years ago, I had to take a break from running. I decided to introduce more women to the sport, to show them how much fun IT can be and to give them confidence to get out and run. I decided to start a running club for women in my area. I put up advertisements and forty women joined. All of them were attracted by the idea of dropping some pounds, but I don't think they had really thought about running before, when or if they did. They had a picture of painful training. They didn't think of chatting or smiling while running in beautiful places like by a river. At first they ran for only a minute. Now they can run for thirty minutes. I had so much pleasure watching their progress almost as much as they've had themselves. Hello everyone, i'd like to tell you why I set up the running club. Here are the best events to attend. Karneval, Cologne Karneval is a 40-day party season which takes place between February and March. The largest and most well-known one of these celebrations in Germany takes place in Cologne. The period sees street parties pop up all across the city. The tradition dates back to medieval (中世纪的) times when people lived under strict rules. However, the Germans are certainly making up for it now. Frankfurt Book Fair Held for five days at the Frankfurt Trade Fair grounds in Frankfurt, the event dates back to the 15th century. Today, it is the world’s largest trade fair for books and is considered to be the most important one for international deals and trading. These show the works of Johann Sebastian Bach. Each year, the festival opens with a long night of house music. For one evening, more than a hundred public house concerts take place in private living rooms across the state. Long Night of the Museums, Berlin The evening sees between 70 and 80 of the city’s museums open late for the public to visit. Visitors are given an entrance pass to all the exhibits (展览品) within the area. They can meet interesting guests, and dance the night away to live music, and more. With foods and drinks on offer in many places, it’s no wonder this is one of the most popular German festivals. 21. What can visitors do between February and March in Cologne? What do the last two festivals have in common? A. They both can attract music lovers. B. They both tell some historical stories. C. They are both held during the daytime. D. They both require membership to attend B “Listen, that’s a magpie singing.” said Xu Keyi, a wildlife photographer who can identify bird species by just hearing their calls. B. Critical. C. Optimistic. D. Doubtful. C I recently made a new friend, and we became Instagram mutuals right away. Lee Mildon once said, “People seldom notice old clothes if you wear a big smile.” A. Purchase quality over quantity. B. Focus on the clothes that bring you joy. C. Start with the clothes that you no longer wear. D. If you’ve asked either of those questions before, E. How can we create a minimalist wardrobe and closet? F. If you’ve ever thought about what fashion is really for, G. Choose one that you really need based on your occupation, lifestyle, or climate. In every group chat, there’s often a silent member, barely participating. My friend Courtney _____51_____ that my slow responses can be hard to deal with. They were hesitant at first but Mrs. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
