There is a place named Shark Bay in Western Australia. At least 28 kinds of sharks are swimming
through the clear water there-the largest in the world. Tiger sharks are especially common visitors to
Shark Bay. They move their 1 5-foot-long (4.5 meters) bodies through the seagrass, sometimes catching
huge sea cows for a meal. Although tiger sharks are dangerous to sea cows, they are important to the
health of the ocean ecosystem. In fact, they can also be our powerful friends in stopping climate (C候
change.
It all comes back to the seagrass that moves with the waves in Shark Bay. The seagrass is food for
the sea cows, which each eat about 40 kilograms of seagrass a day. By controlling the sea cow
population, tiger sharks in Shark Bay help the seagrass beds grow. A healthy seagrass bed stores twice
as much carbon dioxide (二氧化碳) per sauare mile as forests do on land. This means that seagrass is
super good at keeping carbon out of the air, which helps fight climate change
九年级英语试题第4页(共10页)
But in the world, tiger shark numbers are becoming smaller, including some populations in
Australia. Off Australia's northeast coast of Oueensland, it is reported that the number of tiger sharks
has fallen quickly by at least 71%, largely because of overfishing and bycatch (误捕). Fewer tiger
sharks mean more seagrass eaten and less carbon stored in the ocean. If this situation continues, the
balance of the ocean ecosystem will be seriously broken
In Shark Bay, the tiger sharks are able to achieve the balance by keeping sea cow numbers down
and not all the bay's seagrass is lost. But here comes the auestion: What if sharks disappeared from the
bay? It's even more urgent (紧迫的) for us to understand how they support the ecosystems. Protecting
tiger sharks is not just about saving one species (物种); it's about keeping the whole ocean healthy
Every animal has a role to play, and sharks are key players in the underwater world
31 What can we know from paragraph 1?
A. Tiger sharks eat sea cows
B. Tiger sharks are harmful to the ocean
C. The seagrass bed is about 4.5 meters long
D. The tiger shark is the largest of its kind
32. What does the underlined word "they" in paragraph 1 refer to?
A.Visitors.
B. Seacows.
C. Tiger sharks
D. Seagrass beds.
33. What is paragraph 2 mainly about?
A. How tiger sharks hurt sea cows.
B. How sea cows break seagrass beds
C. How seagrass produces food for us
D. How tiger sharks help protect the ecosystem
34. What is the situation of tiger sharks around the world?
A. They are leaving Australia
B. Their homes are getting worse.
C. They are catching too many sea cows
D. Their numbers are getting smaller
35. Why does the writer write the text?
A. To introduce how the ecosystem works
B. To show the importance of tiger sharks
C. To discuss the problems of tiger sharks
D. To give basic information about seagrass.
D
Have you ever felt like you're in your own small world, where everything you hear or sce just
makes you more sure of what you already think? It's like being in an "echo chamber (信息茁房)"-a
place where your own ideas keep coming back to you, and you don't hear any different ones. It isn't
something new, but with everyone on social media, it's happening a lot more now
Echo chambers are like rooms that we can't see on the Internet where everyone agrees with you
Think about how people used to sit around a fire, telling stories that made everyone else all nod and
smile. Now, we have the Internet-our modern-day fire-where platforms (平台) let people around the
world share their thoughts
Social media platforms know exactly what we like. Thanks to clever algorithms (算法)-sets of
rules that computers use to work out what you enjoy by watching what you click on, like, and share
九年级英语试题 第5页(共10页)
online. These algorithms watch what we do on the Internet to show us more information that matches
our interests and even what our friends like
However, being in echo chambers can bring some trouble. They make us feel good because most
of the views around us are those we agree with, but they also make us see the world in a very limited
way. This can make our opinions very fixed and make it hard for us, to understand people who think
differently. It might even make us feel more separated and worried because everyone outside our
"bubble"secms so different
Luckily, there are ways to break free from echo chambers. One big step is to challenge ourselves
by looking for information from different sources (来源). This means searching for more different
things on the Internet, reading different kinds of stories, and talking to people with other ideas. Also.
ask questions about where information comes from, double-check facts and be open-minded. In this
way, we can make sure we understand the wider world a lot better
36. How does the writer begin the text?
A. By listing numbers.
B. By asking a question
C. By giving examples
D. By showing facts
37. What may happen in an echo chamber according to the text?
A. Others share your ideas
B. People share stories by a fire
C. Talk to those with different ideas
D. Understand the world better.
38. What does the underlined word 'bubble" in paragraph 4 mean?
C. Aballoon.
A.Aroom.
B. An algorithm.
D. An echo chamber
39. What advice does the writer give us to deal with echo chambers?
A. Stay in echo chambers
B. Don't care about others' ideas
C. Check where information comes from
D. Talk with people inside your echo chambers
40. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Useful Echo Chambers
B. The History of Storytelling
C. Ways to Break Echo Chambers
D. Echo Chambers Make Us Smile

项。
If you lie awake at night. thinking over a decision you made earlier that day or worrying about
tomorrow's to-do list, you might be overthinking. 41 People may think about the simplest
situations or events far more than they need to. In many cases, it could show up as replaying events of
the past and even the present in a bad way. But why do people overthink?
According to some experts, overthinking comes from a basic part of our mind. Our brains always
look for dangers and try to make plans to avoid them and keep us safe. These dangers might come from
九年级英语试题 第6页(共10页)
bad experiences in the past. 42
Some people believe that overthinking may be helpful because it helps us look at a problem from
every possible side and get ready for what might happen. However, research shows that overthinking
can lead to more stress and sadness. 43 Worrying too much about what others do and say
can also make you misunderstand them.
So, instead of sitting and thinking about a problem endlessly, you can pay attention to other things
for a while. Give your brain a break. 44 You can do something fun, like gardening, cooking
or even sleeping
45 Ask yourself if they have a point and think about other possibilities. It can be
difficult at first, but learning to stop overthinking can help you change bad thoughts into much better
ones.
"Thinking is a two-way street. While the brain may produce lots of thoughts, in the end, it's up to
us to decide if we accept them,"Natalie Dattilo, a professor, said
A. Worrying about the future is another part.
B. Also, challenge these ideas when they appear.
C. Overthinking can make it easy to sleep at night
D. What's more, overthinking can hurt relationships
E. Then, after resting, try to think of ways to solve it.

It was a rainy Friday night in northwestern China's Shanxi Province. A sudden rainstorm hitZhazhou, Shanxi, and a part of the Shuiyange Bridge on Danning Expressway collapsed (倒塌).
Xia Hui, a 50-year-old man, was driving from Xianyang to Wuhan with his wife, Xu Xuan. XiaHui was driving on the slow lane (车道), and two cars were driving on the fast lane. After the first white car passed by, he suddenly couldn't see its taillights (尾灯). Knowing something was wrong, he stopped his car. Then, another fast black car was out of his sight.
After getting out of their car, Xia Hui and his wife found that their car was only five meters away from the collapsed bridge.
“It was really dangerous. If I had driven faster, my car would have fallen down.” said Xia Hui.

There is a place named Shark Bay in Western Australia. At least 28 kinds of sharks are swimming through the clear water there—— the largest in the world. Tiger sharks are especially common visitors toShark Bay. They move their 15-foot-long(4.5 meters) bodies through the seagrass, sometimes catching huge sea cows for a meal. Although tiger sharks are dangerous to sea cows, they are important to the health of the ocean ecosystem. In fact, they can also be our powerful friends in stopping climate (气候)change.
It all comes back to the seagrass that moves with the waves in Shark Bay. The seagrass is food for the sea cows, which each eat about 40 kilograms of seagrass a day. By controlling the sea cow population, tiger sharks in Shark Bay help the seagrass beds grow. A healthy seagrass bed stores twice as much carbon dioxide (二氧化碳) per square mile as forests do on land. This means that seagrass is super good at keeping carbon out of the air, which helps fight climate change.

But in the world, tiger shark numbers are becoming smaller, including some populations inAustralia. Off Australia's northeast coast of Queensland, it is reported that the number of tiger sharks has fallen quickly by at least 71%, largely because of overfishing and bycatch (误捕). Fewer tiger sharks mean more seagrass eaten and less carbon stored in the ocean. If this situation continues, the balance of the ocean ecosystem will be seriously broken.
In Shark Bay, the tiger sharks are able to achieve the balance by keeping sea cow numbers down, and not all the bay's seagrass is lost. But here comes the question: What if sharks disappeared from the bay? It's even more urgent(紧迫的) for us to understand how they support the ecosystems. Protecting tiger sharks is not just about saving one species(物种); it's about keeping the whole ocean healthy.Every animal has a role to play, and sharks are key players in the underwater world.
31 What can we know from paragraph 1?
A. Tiger sharks eat sea cows. B. Tiger sharks are harmful to the ocean.
C. The seagrass bed is about 4.5 meters long. D. The tiger shark is the largest of its kind.
32. What does the underlined word“they” in paragraph 1 refer to?
A. Visitors. B. Sea cows.
C. Tiger sharks. D. Seagrass beds.
33. What is paragraph 2 mainly about?
A. How tiger sharks hurt sea cows. B. How sea cows break seagrass beds.
C. How seagrass produces food for us. D. How tiger sharks help protect the ecosystem.
34. What is the situation of tiger sharks around the world?
A. They are leaving Australia. B. Their homes are getting worse.
C. They are catching too many sea cows. D. Their numbers are getting smaller.
35. Why does the writer write the text?
A. To introduce how the ecosystem works. B. To show the importance of tiger sharks.
C. To discuss the problems of tiger sharks. D. To give basic information about seagrass.
D
Have you ever felt like you' re in your own small world, where everything you hear or see just makes you more sure of what you already think? It's like being in an“echo chamber(信息茧房)”——a place where your own ideas keep coming back to you, and you don't hear any different ones. It isn't something new, but with everyone on social media, it's happening a lot more now.
Echo chambers are like rooms that we can't see on the Internet where everyone agrees with you.Think about how people used to sit around a fire, telling stories that made everyone else all nod and smile. Now, we have the Internet—— our modern-day fire—— where platforms(平台) let people around the world share their thoughts.
Social media platforms know exactly what we like. Thanks to clever algorithms (算法)—— sets of rules that computers use to work out what you enjoy by watching what you click on, like, and share

online. These algorithms watch what we do on the Internet to show us more information that matches our interests and even what our friends like.
However, being in echo chambers can bring some trouble. They make us feel good because most of the views around us are those we agree with, but they also make us see the world in a very limited way. This can make our opinions very fixed and make it hard for us to understand people who think differently. It might even make us feel more separated and worried because everyone outside our“bubble” seems so different.
Luckily, there are ways to break free from echo chambers. One big step is to challenge ourselves by looking for information from different sources(来源). This means searching for more different things on the Internet, reading different kinds of stories, and talking to people with other ideas. Also, ask questions about where information comes from, double-check facts and be open-minded. In this way, we can make sure we understand the wider world a lot better.
36. How does the writer begin the text?
A. By listing numbers. B. By asking a question.
C. By giving examples. D. By showing facts.
37. What may happen in an echo chamber according to the text?
A. Others share your ideas. B. People share stories by a fire.
C. Talk to those with different ideas. D. Understand the world better.
38. What does the underlined word“bubble” in paragraph 4 mean?
A. A room. B. An algorithm. C. A balloon. D. An echo chamber.
39. What advice does the writer give us to deal with echo chambers?
A. Stay in echo chambers.
B. Don't care about others' ideas.
C. Check where information comes from.
D. Talk with people inside your echo chambers.
40. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Useful Echo Chambers B. The History of Storytelling
C. Ways to Break Echo Chambers D. Echo Chambers Make Us Smile

If you lie awake at night, thinking over a decision you made earlier that day or worrying about tomorrow's to-do list, you might be overthinking. 41 People may think about the simplest situations or events far more than they need to. In many cases, it could show up as replaying events of the past and even the present in a bad way. But why do people overthink?
According to some experts, overthinking comes from a basic part of our mind. Our brains always look for dangers and try to make plans to avoid them and keep us safe. These dangers might come from

bad experiences in the past. 42
Some people believe that overthinking may be helpful because it helps us look at a problem from every possible side and get ready for what might happen. However, research shows that overthinking can lead to more stress and sadness. 43 Worrying too much about what others do and say can also make you misunderstand them.
So, instead of sitting and thinking about a problem endlessly, you can pay attention to other things for a while. Give your brain a break. 44 You can do something fun, like gardening, cooking,or even sleeping.
45 Ask yourself if they have a point and think about other possibilities. It can be difficult at first, but learning to stop overthinking can help you change bad thoughts into much better ones.
“Thinking is a two-way street. While the brain may produce lots of thoughts, in the end, it's up to us to decide if we accept them,” Natalie Dattilo,a professor, said.
A. Worrying about the future is another part.
B. Also, challenge these ideas when they appear.
C. Overthinking can make it easy to sleep at night.
D. What's more, overthinking can hurt relationships.
E. Then, after resting, try to think of ways to solve it.
F. Overthinking can help us solve problems more actively.
G. Overthinking means going over the same idea all the time.
