C Rembrandt van Rijn, Dutch Baroque painter and printmaker, one of the greatest storytellers in the history of art, has an unusual ability to express people in their various moods. Rembrandt is also known as a painter of light and shade and as an artist who favored an uncompromising (不妥协的) realism. Early in his career and for some time, Rembrandt painted mainly portraits (肖像). Although he continued to paint portraits throughout his career, he did so less frequently over time. Nearly one-tenth of his paintings consist of studies of his own face as well as more formal self-portraits. Seen over his whole career, the changes in Rembrandt’s style are worthy of attention. His approach to composition and his expression of space and light tend to make a gradual change, even within a single work. The painting known as Night Watch (1642) was clearly a turning point in his stylistic development. These changes are not the result of an involuntary evolution (无意识的演进); rather they should be seen as a clear-minded search in pictural and narrative sides, sometimes as if he were in discussion with his great previous generations. Rembrandt quickly achieved fame among Dutch art lovers and an art-buying public for his history paintings as well as his portraits and self-portraits. His unusual drawings, which in fact were done as practice exercises or as studies for other works, were also collected by current art lovers. Certain artists in 18th-century Germany and Venice even adopted his style. He was respected during the Romantic era and was considered a forerunner (先驱) of the Romantic movement; from that point he was regarded as one of the greatest figures in art history. In the Netherlands itself, his fortunes have once again risen, and he has become a symbol of both greatness and Dutchness. 28. Why is Rembrandt called “one of the greatest storytellers in the history of art” in Paragraph 1? A. He was good at telling good stories. B. His own life story is well worth telling. C. He could use light and shade skillfully. D. He could show people’s moods vividly. 29. What features Rembrandt’s early career? A. His preference for portraits. B. His vivid description of beauty. C. His unintended search of changes. D. His high fame among art lovers. 30. What can we expect from Night Watch? A. A painting style without any change. B. Different expression of space and light. C. An involuntary evolution in narrative respects. D. Similar content to that of those painted before. 31. What do the underlined words “that point” in the last paragraph refer to? A. Rembrandt’s contributions to the Romantic movement. B. Rembrandt’s influence on contemporary art lovers. C. Rembrandt’s unusual portraits and self-portraits. D. Rembrandt’s influence on artists in 18th-century Europe. D Search engines, virtual worlds, the Internet — ever get the feeling you’re living in a science fiction fantasy? Well indeed you are. For more than a century, inventors have been driven to create what sci-fi writers have boldly imagined before. As a boy in India, Amit Singhal dreamed of space. “Those were my favorite times as a little child on a hot summer day, sitting in a room watching Star Trek,” he says. Singhal now works at Google, where he is in charge of maintaining Google’s search algorithms (算法). “But my main job is to dream about what searching would look like a few years from now,” he says. And what do those dreams look like? Singhal was fascinated by the way Star Trek characters simply talk to a computer to find out about almost anything, so now he’s working on Google’s voice-recognition search products. Singhal isn’t unique. Scratch the surface (作肤浅的探讨) of many inventors in Silicon Valley, and there’s a kid who loved science fiction underneath. “Teenagers read these things, they fall in love with the novel, they get inspired by the technology and they keep it in the back of their minds till they’re about 30, and then they build it,” technology forecaster (预言家) Paul Saffo says. The grandfather of science fiction is probably Jules Verne, whose novels have inspired whole generations of people. And ever since Verne, there’s been a long list of inventions that come from science fiction. Buck Rogers inspired a generation of scientists excited about space exploration. William Gibson dreamed up the Internet while writing Neuromancer on a manual typewriter. Neal Stephenson predicted virtual worlds in his novel Snow Crash. One of his readers Philip Rosedale, built the virtual world Second Life based on the “Metaverse” from the novel. Science fiction helps engineers see the meaning of their work, says Snow Crash author Stephenson. It makes it “possible for these people to see a realized vision of what all of their efforts could eventually lead to.” 32. What can we learn about Singhal? A. He has shown less enthusiasm for space. B. He has strongly criticized the movie Star Trek. C. He has dreamed of becoming a science fiction writer. D. He has been exploring future possibilities of search engines. 33. What does Saffo say about science fiction? A. It plants seeds of creativity in teenagers’ hearts. B. It helps readers understand real human issues. C. It fails to live up to its full potential. D. It should be based on scientific facts. 34. How is paragraph 4 mainly developed? A. By presenting writers’ achievements. B. By analyzing the reasons for technological progress. C. By making comparisons between fiction and reality. D. By giving examples of innovations driven by science fiction. 35. What is the best title for the text? A. Jules Verne imagined the world ahead B. Science fiction inspires engineers to build our future C. Why teens are fascinated by science fiction D. Why science fiction writers are so good at predicting the future Creativity isn’t something that comes naturally to everyone. His pencil moved in time to the percussive (打击乐的) rhythms booming from his earbuds. Grandma Johnson came into the kitchen just as Ricky was putting his math notebook back into his backpack. “I don’t know how you get anything done listening to that hippity-hoppity noise,”she exclaimed. Ricky took out his earbuds and fought hard not to roll his eyes. He knew Grandma Johnson was half-teasing. But the hip-hop rhythms relaxed his mind and quietened his thoughts, allowing his brain to focus on the page. “Guess what, Grandma?” said Ricky. “I’ve finished my homework.” Without his earbuds, Ricky could hear the music playing in the background — a song by Diana Ross and the Supremes. Pushing aside his annoyance, he took his grandmother’s hand and gave her a little twirl (旋转). Ricky has always felt close to his grandma. And now that his high school was near his grandmother’s Brooklyn home, he went there every day to eat dinner and do his homework before heading home to Harlem. Ricky knew his presence helped ease his grandmother’s loneliness, and he loved spending time with her. But… he just wished she would stop dismissing his favorite music as noise. That evening, Grandma surprised Ricky with tickets to a Stevie Wonder concert at Madison Square Garden. Ricky was secretly disappointed, as he believed the concert would be boring compared to the hip-hop concerts he had attended. However, he smiled and thanked his grandmother for the gift. At dinner, Grandma Johnson took out her old photo albums and told Ricky stories about her past experiences at music festival s and concerts, including a Stevie Wonder concert in 1972. “This is not just music,” Grandma told him. “This is Black History, Black Culture. Blind as he is, he is a great musician.” But a Stevie Wonder concert today —an old guy on stage, playing a keyboard and singing? No dancers? No special effects? How boring! Paragraph 1 The day of the concert arrived. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2 It turned out that the live performance differed from Ricky’s imagination. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 衡阳县四中2025届高三第一学期期末考试 英语 注意事项: 1. What will the speakers probably do next? M: Well, it is not actually something I planned to do. It was a fun job I took on while I was at university to earn a bit of extra money and when I did it actually, it turned out that I was quite good at it. W: What do you have to do as a living statue? M: Firstly you should come up with a creative idea and then you have to practice and find the right clothes and stuff and do the full body makeup. W: You won the world living statue championships recently. Could you tell us something about that? M: Um, for the world championships, I was a stone statue and I painted in those tiny marks, so that I looked like a kind of old almost falling apart statue. And I think the judge is really appreciated that. W: Yep, I get it. So what is the point of doing this job? M: The point really is the connection you make with your audience. When you make a tiny movement, they tend to explode with laughter. And it’s that interaction between the audience and the performer that’s really what it’s all about. W: And what is the secret of being a good living statue? M: Firstly never try and perform on an empty stomach. If you get hungry, you can start to feel light headed, so you always need to eat something first. Well, good stomach muscles are key, too. You need to have them to hold those positions. 17. What can we learn about the library? A. It will close down one year later. B. It is open during public holidays. D 29. A 30. B 31. 根据文章第二段首句“Early in his career and for some time, Rembrandt painted mainly portraits (肖像). 故选A项。 根据文章第三段“Seen over his whole career, the changes in Rembrandt’s style are worthy of attention. His approach to composition and his expression of space and light tend to make a gradual change, even within a single work. The painting known as Night Watch (1642) was clearly a turning point in his stylistic development. 根据划线词所在的句子“He was respected during the Romantic era and was considered a forerunner (先驱) of the Romantic movement; from that point he was regarded as one of the greatest figures in art history. In the Netherlands itself, his fortunes have once again risen, and he has become a symbol of both greatness and Dutchness.(他在浪漫主义时代受到尊敬,被认为是浪漫主义运动的先驱,从那一刻起,他被认为是艺术史上最伟大的人物之一。 故选A项。 D Search engines, virtual worlds, the Internet — ever get the feeling you’re living in a science fiction fantasy? Why science fiction writers are so good at predicting the future 【答案】32. D 33. A 34. D 35. 根据第二段“Singhal was fascinated by the way Star Trek characters simply talk to a computer to find out about almost anything, so now he’s working on Google’s voice-recognition search products.(Singhal被《星际迷航》中的角色通过与电脑对话来了解几乎所有事情的方式所吸引,所以现在他正在开发谷歌的语音识别搜索产品)”可知,Singhal一直在探索搜索引擎未来的可能性。 根据第三段““Teenagers read these things, they fall in love with the novel, they get inspired by the technology and they keep it in the back of their minds till they’re about 30, and then they build it,” technology forecaster (预言家) Paul Saffo says.(“青少年阅读这些东西,他们爱上了小说,他们受到技术的启发,他们把它放在他们的脑海里,直到他们30岁左右,然后他们把它造出来,”技术预测师保罗·萨福说)”可知,萨福认为科幻小说在青少年的心中播下了创造力的种子。故选A。 根据第四段“The grandfather of science fiction is probably Jules Verne, whose novels have inspired whole generations of people. One of his readers Philip Rosedale, built the virtual world Second Life based on the “Metaverse” from the novel.(科幻小说的鼻祖可能是儒勒·凡尔纳,他的小说激励了整整几代人。 根据第一段“Search engines, virtual worlds, the Internet — ever get the feeling you’re living in a science fiction fantasy? If you aren’t an artist or someone in an “artsy” field, you might wonder why creativity is important. Here, you may find the answer. ___36___ Creativity is the key to the door of expression, no matter what form of creativity you choose. It could be painting or anything that brings interesting things out. All conveys how you really feel on the inside and reveals things you may not be comfortable about. Thinking creatively always opens up possibilities. ___38___ Oftentimes, people get stuck in the mindset and patterns they used to employ to solve difficulties. While the old way might still get the job done, if your problem-solving was more creative, it could give you new perspectives to help you do better. Creativity has been proven in extensive research to relieve both stress and anxiety. Sometimes, among life’s responsibilities, we forget that we need and deserve downtime and self-care. ___39___ It’s like a cure for your mental health. When you think creatively and overcome challenges, you’re proving to yourself that you’re a capable person. Creativity plays a part on your way to self-recognition. ___40___ A. Creativity makes you more productive. B. Doing something creative can help you shake off a bad mood. C. Turning to creativity can give you more of what you need in this area. D. Organizing your thoughts creatively makes them more real and clearer. E. Freedom of expression is considered important to a person’s well- being. F. Despite all inevitable risks, these breakthroughs in technologies do promote agricultural development. On the one hand, with the application of various advanced technologies, varying from automatic systems to AI integration in agricultural field, the farming efficiency and productivity are shooting up, enabling farmers to break away from tedious physical workloads. On the other hand, what concerns the public is that the long-term effects of new technologies may do harm to the environment and human health. Furthermore, the escalating unemployment level and population migration issues due to the automatic farming process should be fully taken into consideration. As far as I’m concerned, while we are embracing new technologies in farming, it is crucial to strike a balance between their benefits and risks to fulfill the sustainable farming development. 考虑在内:take into... consideration→take... into account 关键的:crucial→critical 而且:furthermore→moreover 实现:fulfill→accomplish 2. Despite all inevitable risks, these breakthroughs in technologies do promote agricultural development. While there are inevitable risks, these breakthroughs in technologies do promote agricultural development. 1】On the other hand, what concerns the public is that the long-term effects of new technologies may do harm to the environment and human health.(运用了what引导的主语从句和that引导的表语从句) 【高分句型2】As far as I’m concerned, while we are embracing new technologies in farming, it is crucial to strike a balance between their benefits and risks to fulfill the sustainable farming development.(运用了while引导的时间状语从句和it作形式主语不定式作真正主语的结构) 第二节(满分25分) 67. Ricky sat at the kitchen table, imitating the drumbeat of his favorite song as he finished his math homework. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 The day of the concert arrived. Ricky, with a mix of curiosity and skepticism, accompanied his grandmother to Madison Square Garden. The atmosphere was electric, filled with fans of all ages, their faces glowing with anticipation. As they took their seats, Grandma Johnson’s excitement was palpable, her eyes sparkling with memories. Ricky couldn’t help but feel a twinge of guilt for his earlier dismissive thoughts about the concert. The lights dimmed, and the stage came to life, the audience erupting into cheers as Stevie Wonder made his entrance. It turned out that the live performance differed from Ricky’s imagination. The music was soulful and powerful, transcending generations and resonating deeply within him. Stevie’s voice, rich and emotive, captivated the audience, and his mastery of the keyboard was nothing short of mesmerizing. There were no flashy dancers or high-tech special effects, but the raw talent and passion of the performance spoke volumes. Ricky found himself tapping his feet, nodding his head, and even singing along. By the end of the concert, he had a newfound appreciation for the music that had shaped his grandmother’s youth and realized the timeless beauty of true artistry. 词汇激活: 行为类 ① 陪同:accompany/attend with e②爆发欢呼声:erupting into cheers/burst into cheers 情绪类 ① 怀疑:skepticism/doubt ② 欣赏:appreciation/admiration ③ 热情:passion/enthusiasm 【点睛】【高分句型1】The lights dimmed, and the stage came to life, the audience erupting into cheers as Stevie Wonder made his entrance.(独立主格结构和as引导的状语从句) 【高分句型2】By the end of the concert, he had a newfound appreciation for the music that had shaped his grandmother’s youth and realized the timeless beauty of true artistry.(that引导的定语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$请看听力部分第一节,第一节听下面5段对话,每段对话后有一个小题,从题中所给的ABC3个选项中选出最佳选项。 I am too tired to cook at home tonight.
