B Carnival: One Day in Rio Last year I wont to the Rio de Janeiro Carnival, and it blew my mind. It had been my dream to attend the famous carnival for many years, so I was excited. However, the moment I arrived, I was a little bit nervous because there were so many people on the streets. They say that five or six million people come to Rio during carnival time and about two million of them are on the streets on any given day. Luckily, I had a local guide, my sister’s friend Ronnie. He said he would take care of me and show me all the highlights. He did not let me down. The carnival is most definitely all about the samba. It’s a style of music and dance which has its roots in Africa. Lots of Africans were used as slave labor by the Portuguese when Brazil was being colonized (沦为殖民地), so this mixed culture of African. Latin and European styles is really strong here. Samba music is usually fast and exciting with a lot of drums and harmonic vocals (和声). It’s the kind of music that you can’t help dancing to, and I was learning that as I followed Ronnie through the crowd, my hips and shoulders were swinging (摇摆) almost involuntarily. Ronnie had got us tickets for the samba parade, the symbol of Brazilian culture, inside the Sambadrome where the top samba schools compete for the championship title, but we still had a long way to go through the street parties. He said most people enjoy the carnival by throwing their own parties in the street. About the samba parade, twelve main teams compete for the championship, and if they win, their performance will be talked about for years to come. So, you must be wondering how it was. Well, I’m afraid I can’t tell you. Ronnie and I never made it into the Sambadrome. We spent the day moving from one street party to another. There were more snacks, more drinks and lots of dancing. C.It is not to the author’s taste. D.It has a long and mixed culture. 26.The author didn’t regret missing the main parade because ______. A.she befriended some local people. B.she celebrated the festival in a local way. C.she didn’t pay any money for the parade. D.she enjoyed herself by having her own party. 27.What’s the purpose of the passage? A.To recommend a helpful guide. B.To encourage people to learn samba. C.To share an unforgettable experience. D.To tell a painful history of Rio de Janeiro. C Too many people want others to be their friends, but they don’t give friendship back. That is why some friendships don’t last very long. To have a friend, you must learn to treat your friend the way you want your friend to treat you. Learning to be a good friend means learning three rules: be honest; be generous (宽宏大量的);be understanding. Honesty is where a good friendship starts. Friends must be able to trust one another. If you don’t tell the truth, people usually find out. If a friend finds out that you haven’t been honest, you may lose your friend’s trust. Good friends always count on one another to speak and act honestly. Generosity  means sharing and sharing makes a friendship grow. You don’t have to give your lunch money or your clothes, or enjoy, like our hobbies and your interests. Naturally you will want to share your ideas and feelings. These can be very valuable to a friend. They tell your friend what is important to you. By sharing them you help your friend know you better. Sooner or later everyone needs understanding and help with a problem. Something may go wrong at school. Talking about the problem can make it easier to solve . Turning to a friend can be a first step in solving the problem. So to be a friend you must listen and understand. You must try to put yourself in your friend’s place so you can understand the problem better. No two friendships are ever exactly alike(相同). But all true friendships have three things in common. If you plan to keep your friendships, you must practice honesty. Generosity and understanding. 28.Some friendships don’t last very long because        . A.there are too many people who want to make friends B.they don’t know friendship is something serious C.those who give others friendships receive friendships from others D.those who never give others friendships receive no friendship from others 29.According to the passage , honesty is          . A.as important as money B.more important than anything else C.something countable D.the base of a friendship 30.Which of the following is NOT true in the passage? A.A friend who gives you his lunch money is a true friend. B.Always tell your friend the truth. C.Discussing your problems with your friend often helps to solve the problem. D.Sharing your mind with your friend is of great value. 31.The best title of this passage is        . A.A Friend in Need Is a Friend Indeed B.Honesty Is the Best Habit C.How to Be a Friend D.Three Important Points in Life D Everyone loves watching the leaves change in autumn and observing the variety of colors. This seasonal change has inspired many artists to create amazing poetry, such as Nothing Gold Can Stay by Robert Frost or Song for Autumn by Mary Oliver. But have you ever wondered the scientific reason as to how trees get their special autumn colors? In the spring and summer, tree leaves produce a chemical called chlorophyll(叶绿素), which is responsible for the green color. Chlorophyll is in charge of using the sunlight’s energy to create sugars that the tree needs to survive. There are actually two main types of chlorophyll. Chlorophyll A is present in every tree, but Chlorophyll B is present only in trees that do not get as much sunlight, so Chlorophyll B assists Chlorophyll A to produce enough food for the trees to survive. Chlorophyll A gives leaves a bright green color, while Chlorophyll B produces a darker green color. As the seasons begin to change, daylight becomes shorter and temperatures go down, causing the trees to stop producing the sugars that they need to live. As a result, the chlorophyll and its green pigment(色素) begin to disappear, showing the bright autumn colors that so many trees are loved for. Aside from chlorophyll, there are some other chemicals that bring red or yellow pigments to tree leaves. Autumn is a magical season that has the ability to attract us each and every year with its bright change of colors in trees. Sometimes it can seem so supernatural in all of its beauty that we forget to consider the scientific process that is truly at work. Walking through the rows of trees in the forest this time of year is inspiring — nature’s artistry and science on full display! 32.Why does the author mention Robert Frost in paragraph 1? A.To stress the inspiration of autumn. B.To explain autumn scientifically. C.To admire his poems, D.To compare science with literature. 33.What does paragraph 2 mainly talk about? A.How tree leaves grow better. B.How sunlight’s energy is used. C.How tree leaves get their colors. D.How trees get through summer. 34.What indirectly(间接的) causes tree leaves to show bright autumn colors? A.Daylight becoming longer. B.The fall of temperatures. C.Not enough food for the trees. D.The disappearance of chlorophyll and pigment. 35.What may be the best title for this text? A.Why People Study the Colors of Trees B.How Trees Change Colors in Autumn C.What Causes the Change in Chlorophyll D.When Nature Is the Most Attractive 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 House Plants That Are Easy to Grow Jessica Damiano is an expert at taking care of plants. She writes stories about how to keep plants in good condition. 36 She said it is not that she does not know how to take care of these house plants, but that she just paid no attention to them. She added that the plants are among the hardest to keep alive. As a result, Damiano chooses house plants that need the least amount of care for her home. 37 She also raises plants that grow well with limited light, and can be moved around. Also, these sorts of house plants are best for beginners to grow. Chinese evergreen is a beautiful house plant that does well in low-light conditions. Damiano said all you need to do is keep the plant’s soil lightly wet at all times and fertilize (施肥) every other month over the winter and every month for the rest of the year. The cast iron plant is as strong as its name sounds. Damiano said it does not even want your attention. 38 It prefers electric light or light from a north-facing window. Let the soil dry out between waterings and fertilize every other month in summer and autumn and just once during the winter. One house plant, the aloe plant, can be used for treating burns. 39 That liquid (液体) not only protects burned skin, but also the plant. Just place it by a window that provides bright, indirect sun light and water it every three weeks, and less often during winter. Similar plants called succulents share aloe plants’ ability to store water within their leaves. 40 Most also share aloe plants’ lack of requirements, making them a good fit for new plant parents. A.But even she has killed house plants. B.Avoid providing too much sunlight. C.These house plants usually need much attention. D.There are many other house plants that need little water and sunlight. E.She looks for plants that grow well with very little water. F.When necessary, just cut open a leaf and use the juice from within on an injury.
