You will get involved in feeding, cleaning, daily care, etc. with other staff members who have years of experience on each project.(一般来说,巴厘岛野生动物救援志愿者周一至周四每天工作约3-5小时,周五是可选的,但鼓励工作。 根据Highlights下的“A top destination for first-times looking for a secure and social experience.(首次寻求安全和社交体验的首选目的地)”可知,参与者可以从项目中获得丰富的社交经验。故选C项。 B One summer night, a boy felt himself lifted from bed by his father. Sleepy with eyes half closed, he saw stars flashing across the heavens. “What is it?” the child whispered. “Shooting stars. They come every year in August.” Decades have passed, but I still remember that night, because I was the fortunate boy whose father believed a new experience was more important than an unbroken night’s sleep. Some parents, like my father, have the gift of opening doors for their children, of leading them into splendid newness. This art of adding dimensions to a child doesn’t necessarily require a great deal of time. It simply involves doing things with our children instead of for them or to them. At a Golf Association tournament, a ten-year-old girl played exceptionally well. “How long have you been interested in golf?” someone asked. “I got it for my ninth birthday,” she said. “You mean your father gave you a set of clubs?” “No,” she said, “he gave me golf.” I have a friend, a psychiatrist, who says there are two types of people: those who think of life as a privilege and those who think of it as a problem. The first type is enthusiastic and energetic. The other type is suspicious and self-centered. And he adds, “Tell me about your childhood and I can tell you which type you are likely to be.” The real purpose, then, of trying to open doors for children is not to divert them or amuse ourselves; it is to build eager and outgoing attitudes towards the demanding and complicated business of living. This, surely, is the most valuable legacy we can pass on to the next generation: not money, not houses, but a capacity for wonder and gratitude, a sense of aliveness and joy. And for those of us who care what becomes of our children, the challenge is always there. None of us meets it fully, but the opportunities come again and again. Many years have passed since that night. And next year, when August comes with its shooting stars, my son will be seven. 4. What do the underlined words “adding dimensions to” in Paragraph 2 mean? A. Setting an example for. B. Broadening the horizons of. C. Providing attentive care for. D. Narrowing the possibilities of. 5. What the girl said in Paragraph 2 suggests that ______. A. Children should develop a hobby from an early age B. A set of clubs are not as important as skills in golfing C. Parents’ presence is the key to children’s exploration D. No success can be achieved without one’s passion 6. What will the author’s psychiatrist friend agree with? A. Stability in upbringing builds confidence. B. Parenting styles require professional guidance. C. Childhood experience determines adult happiness. D. One’s personality is related to childhood experiences. 7. What is the author’s purpose in writing the last paragraph? A. To express his wish to watch the shooting stars. B. To stress the importance of father-son relations. C. To encourage parents to enrich their kids’ inner life. D. To present the challenges of parenting children. B 5. C 6. D 7. 根据第二段第一句话“Some parents like my father have the gift of opening doors for their children, of leading them into splendid newness. 根据第二段中“At a Golf Association tournament, a ten-year-old girl played exceptionally well. “How long have you been interested in golf?” someone asked. “I got it for my ninth birthday,” she said. “You mean your father gave you a set of clubs?” “No,” she said, “he gave me golf.”(在高尔夫协会的锦标赛上,一个10岁的女孩打得特别好。“你对高尔夫感兴趣多久了?”有人问。“这是我九岁生日的礼物,”她说。“你是说你父亲给了你一套球杆?”“不,”她说,“他是送给了我高尔夫。”)”可推知,父亲的参与和引导是女儿对高尔夫兴趣的关键,即父母的陪伴是孩子探索世界的关键,故选C项。 【6题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段最后一句话“And he adds, “Tell me about your childhood and I can tell you which type you are likely to be.”(他补充道,“告诉我你的童年,我可以告诉你你可能属于哪种类型。”)” 根据最后一段中“The real purpose, then, of trying to open doors for children is not to divert them or amuse ourselves; it is to build eager and outgoing attitudes towards the demanding and complicated business of living. This, surely, is the most valuable legacy we can pass on to the next generation: not money, not houses, but a capacity for wonder and gratitude, a sense of aliveness and joy. And for those of us who care what becomes of our children, the challenge is always there. None of us meets it fully, but the opportunities come again and again.(因此,试图为孩子们敞开大门的真正目的,并不是为了让他们消遣或自娱自乐;它是为了建立一种渴望和外向的态度,去面对复杂而苛求的生活。 C Imagine you are camping at night, and you are sitting inside a tent. You want to read a book, but it is too dark. If you have a flashlight with you inside the tent and you hold your flashlight right up next to the pages of the book, then you are really in business! Brachytherapy (近距离放射疗法), as internal radiation therapy to treat cancer, is a little like this flashlight, because doctors deliver radiation right up close to tumor (肿瘤) cells instead of treating them from farther away. There are several ways healthcare providers can deliver brachytherapy treatments. In one type of brachytherapy, healthcare providers can use a robot called an afterloader that controls where the radioactive source is placed in the patient. This robot can move the source through special tubes into the inside of a patient. When the treatment is over, the robot removes the source from the patient. When the radiation source is not being used for treatment, it sits inside a container inside the robot. That container is made of a special kind of heavy metal so that it blocks radiation. The afterloader can be controlled from outside the treatment room, so the doctor and other members of the healthcare team can be outside of the room while the source is outside of its special container and is being used to treat the patient. This makes delivering radiation safer for the medical team, because they are not exposed to radiation each time they treat a patient. Brachytherapy can be used to treat lots of kinds of cancer. Sometimes patients even get more than one kind of radiation treatment, like when they get treated from the outside-in and then from the inside-out. When a person is going to be treated with brachytherapy, the patient’s doctor will work with a radiation oncologist (肿瘤专家) to make sure the patient is treated safely. By tailoring brachytherapy treatments to individual patients, it can enable doctors to significantly increase the curative effect while reducing side effects to the minimum, enhancing both treatment effectiveness and the quality of life for patients. 8. Why does the author mention the flashlight in paragraph 1? A. To introduce a solution to reading at night. B. To bring up the topic of brachytherapy. C. To show its importance when camping at night. D. To arouse readers’ attention to its use in medical field. 9. What can we know about the afterloader from paragraph 3? A. It can serve as a radioactive source. B. It can block radiation when functioning. C. It must be operated inside the treatment room. D. Doctors can avoid being exposed to radiation by using it. 10. What can be inferred from the text? A. Personalized brachytherapy treatment will have better outcome. B. Brachytherapy is the most effective method to treat cancer. C. Patients will suffer less when being treated with oncologists. D. Patients can only be treated with one kind of radiation for the sake of health. 11. Which can be the most suitable title for the text? A. Finding the Benefits of Radiation Therapy B. Focusing on What Types of Cancers to Treat C. Exploring the Possibility of Brachytherapy D. Treating Cancer From the Inside Out 【答案】8. B 9. D 10. A 11. 根据第一段“Brachytherapy (近距离放射疗法), as internal radiation therapy to treat cancer, is a little like this flashlight, because doctors deliver radiation right up close to tumor (肿瘤) cells instead of treating them from farther away. 根据第三段“The afterloader can be controlled from outside the treatment room, so the doctor and other members of the healthcare team can be outside of the room while the source is outside of its special container and is being used to treat the patient. 根据最后一段“By tailoring brachytherapy treatments to individual patients, it can enable doctors to significantly increase the curative effect while reducing side effects to the minimum, enhancing both treatment effectiveness and the quality of life for patients. 故选A。 根据第一段“Brachytherapy (近距离放射疗法), as internal radiation therapy to treat cancer, is a little like this flashlight, because doctors deliver radiation right up close to tumor (肿瘤) cells instead of treating them from farther away. D“Treating Cancer From the Inside Out (从内到外治疗癌症)”符合这种疗法的特点,作为标题比较合理。故选D。 D When we think about lives filled with meaning, we often focus on people whose grand contributions benefited humanity. Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King and Nelson Mandela surely felt they had a worthwhile life. But how about us ordinary people, struggling in a typical existence? There is an important element to consider. Think about the first butterfly you stop to admire after a long winter or imagine the scenery at the top of a hill after a fresh hike. Sometimes existence delivers us small moments of beauty. When people are open to appreciating such experiences, these moments may enhance how they view their life. This element is defined as EA (experiential appreciation) by Joshua Hicks, a psychological professor at Texas A & M University. Recently, he and his research team set out to figure out whether EA was related to a person’s sense of meaning in a series of studies that involved more than 3,000 participants. At an initial test, researchers had participants rate their agreement of different coping strategies to relieve their stress. They found people who managed stress by focusing on their appreciation for life’s beauty also reported experiencing life as highly meaningful. Researchers then conducted a series of experiments, in which they gave participants specific tasks and, once more, asked them to report how strongly they identified with statements linked to purpose, etc. In one case, participants who watched an awe-inspiring video reported having a greater sense of EA and meaning in life, compared with those watched more neutral videos. After reflecting on the results collected from the participants, researchers confirmed their original theory. But applying that insight can be difficult. Our modern, fast-paced lifestyles fill the day with targets and goals. We are on the go, and we attempt to maximize output both at work and at leisure. This focus on future outcomes makes it all too easy to miss what is happening right now. Yet life happens in the present moment. We should slow down, let life surprise us and embrace the significance in the everyday life. 12. Why are the butterfly and the scenery on a hill mentioned in paragraph 2? A. To deliver moments of beauty. B. To explain personal experiences. C. To present the concept of EA. D. To show the necessity of protecting nature. 13. How did the researchers conduct the study? A. By studying previous research data. B. By analyzing the response from the participants. C. By shooting videos starring the participants. D. By designing different strategies to reduce stress. 14. Who tends to find life more meaningful according to the text? A. A person who always gets her life well-organized. B. A person who leads a fast-paced life. C. A person who often hears motivating speeches. D. A person who always expects future results. 15. What life philosophy does the author show in the last paragraph? A. No pains, no gains. B. Live your life one day at a time. C. Being on sea, sail; being on land, settle. D. Those who believe in their ability can do anything. C 13. B 14. C 15. 根据第二段“Think about the first butterfly you stop to admire after a long winter or imagine the scenery at the top of a hill after a fresh hike. Sometimes existence delivers us small moments of beauty. When people are open to appreciating such experiences, these moments may enhance how they view their life. This element is defined as EA (experiential appreciation) by Joshua Hicks, a psychological professor at Texas A&M University.”“Think about the first butterfly you stop to admire after a long winter or imagine the scenery at the top of a hill after a fresh hike. Sometimes existence delivers us small moments of beauty. When people are open to appreciating such experiences, these moments may enhance how they view their life. This element is defined as EA(experiential appreciation)by Joshua Hicks, a psychological professor at Texas A & M University. 根据文章第三段“At an initial test, researchers had participants rate their agreement of different coping strategies to relieve their stress. 和第四段中“Researchers then conducted a series of experiments, in which they gave participants specific tasks and, once more, asked them to report how strongly they identified with statements linked to purpose, etc. 以及第四段中“After reflecting on the results collected from the participants, researchers confirmed their original theory. 根据文章第四段“In one case, participants who watched an awe-inspiring video reported having a greater sense of EA and meaning in life, compared with those watched more neutral videos. 根据文章最后一段“This focus on future outcomes makes it all too easy to miss what is happening right now. Yet life happens in the present moment. We should slow down, let life surprise us and embrace the significance in the everyday life. “New Year, New You”. It’s January 1 again. It’s time to make New Year’s Resolutions (决心) again. On the one hand, the New Year’s resolutions reflect our hope to make a personal transformation. On the other hand, they show our regret of the past year. ___16___ The truth is that many people fail to accomplish them and keep making new ones. It is not because of a lack of self-discipline. ___17___ In other words, we seek to “become unrecognizable”. In fact, the appeal of a “New You” doesn’t have to do with concrete changes. ___18___ With a new year beginning, we want to finally feel that we’re in the driver’s seat when it comes to our health, finances, personality and so on. So the very concept of “New Year, New You” collapses after careful reflection. Just like we could never drag ourselves out of the mud by pulling on our own hair, we could never win the struggle to become a totally different kind of person. Instead of “becoming unrecognizable”, the New Year should be a time to commit to “radical doability”. This means embracing (拥抱) the pleasure of an easily reachable goal. If you find waking up at 5 a. m. difficult, make 7 a. m. your initial goal and make progress every day. ___19___ If 2025 is your year for getting fit, it probably isn’t also the time to start tidying your home or learning a new language. So let 2025 be the year when we finally stop trying to become someone else. ___20___ Let’s start doing things in baby steps: one message to a friend or one workout. Not many, but at least one. Not later, but right now. A. Rather, we fail to live up to our expectations. B. Accept who we really are and start from there. C. But it’s the very attempt to make complete changes. D. This also means consciously setting up a major goal. E. Why are we going through such.contradictory feelings? F. It also means focusing on a limited number of goals at a time. G. On the contrary, it’s about obtaining a sense of controlling our life. E 17. C 18. G 19. F 20. 【16题详解】 根据上文“On the one hand, the New Year’s resolutions reflect our hope to make a personal transformation. On the other hand, they show our regret of the past year.(一方面,新年决心反映了我们希望实现个人转变的愿望。 【17题详解】 根据上文“It is not because of a lack of self-discipline. 【18题详解】 根据下文“With a new year beginning, we want to finally feel that we’re in the driver’s seat when it comes to our health, finances, personality and so on. 【19题详解】 根据下文“If 2025 is your year for getting fit, it probably isn’t also the time to start tidying your home or learning a new language. 【20题详解】 根据上文“So let 2025 be the year when we finally stop trying to become someone else. (所以让2025年成为我们终于停止试图成为别人的一年)”以及下文“Let’s start doing things in baby steps: one message to a friend or one workout. Not many, but at least one. Not later, but right now. The greatest sports moments often have a wonderful flow state behind the victories or performances. The classroom was filled with a sense of anticipation as Mrs. Stretch announced that it was time for the much-loved game, Around the World. Around the World was Eddie’s absolute favorite classroom game. He loved racing against a classmate to solve a math problem and calling out the answer. Eddie won against some kids and lost against others. Eddie’s best friend Michael never lost a math challenge. He was the champion of Around the World in the class and could even beat a fourth grader. Under Michael’s influence, the entire class was motivated to study harder and developed a newfound love for math. “Talia, you start,” said Mrs. Stretch. Talia was new to the class. Last week, she had watched how the game was played, but this would be her first time playing. Talia jumped up and went over to Luka’s desk. Luka stood up too. “Twelve times two,” said Mrs. Stretch. There was a pause as Talia and Luka raced to work out the multiplication (乘法) problem in their head. “Twenty-four!” Talia called out first. “Right,” said Mrs. Stretch. Talia was the winner so she moved on to challenge the next student. Luka sat down. Surprisingly, it wasn’t long before Talia had beat several classmates. Then Talia was in front of Eddie’s desk. “Six times seven?” asked Mrs. Stretch. “Forty-two!” Talia shouted, a second before Eddie could. Eddie was disappointed he had lost to Talia, but he was happy he also knew the right answer. It was thrilling to watch the game going on. Talia seemed to be unstoppable. Finally. Talia got to Michael. He was the last one she’d have 1o beat to be today’s champion. At that time, the whole classroom was charged with an electric intensity as everyone held their breath. “Eight times twelve.” Mrs. Stretch said, her voice cutting through the thick silence. “Ninety-six!” the answer swiftly escaped Talia’s lips. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ “No, Michael We didn’t cheer against you.” Eddie said. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 “Ninety-six!” the answer swiftly escaped Talia’s lips. Michael stood there, a look of shock on his face. For a moment, the classroom was so quiet that you could hear a pin drop. Then, a huge cheer erupted from the students. Talia had beaten the undefeated champion! Michael forced a smile, but it was clear he was disappointed. After class, he sat alone at his desk, lost in thought. Eddie noticed and decided to talk to him. “No, Michael. We didn’t cheer against you.” Eddie said. “We were just excited for Talia. She’s new, and she worked really hard. You are still the best in our hearts. You inspired us to love math. And now, Talia has shown us that there’s always someone amazing out there. Let’s be happy for her and keep improving ourselves.” Michael looked up at Eddie, and his frown slowly turned into a smile. “You’re right,” he said. “I should be proud of Talia. And I will work even harder to be better.” From that day on, the class became even more enthusiastic about math, with everyone inspired by each other’s progress. 词汇激活 行为类 ①强颜欢笑:force a smile/manage a weak smile/put on a false smile ②为……感到骄傲:be proud of/take pride in ③不断提高:keep improving/continue to progress/constantly enhance oneself 情绪类 ①失望的:disappointed/despondent ②热情的:enthusiastic/passionate/zealous 【点睛】[高分句型1] For a moment, the classroom was so quiet that you could hear a pin drop. B One summer night, a boy felt himself lifted from bed by his father. C Imagine you are camping at night, and you are sitting inside a tent. Treating Cancer From the Inside Out D When we think about lives filled with meaning, we often focus on people whose grand contributions benefited humanity. G. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
