2024-2025学年江苏省南京市雨花台中学 高二英语下学期期中考试试卷 全卷满分:150分 考试时间:120分钟 第一部分:听力(共两节,满分30分)(略) 第二部分:阅读(共两节,满分50分) 第一节(共15小题;每小题2.5分,满分37.5分) A Social networking websites are an important tool for us to keep up with the world, make new friends, and share pictures, videos, or bits of interesting news. But for people who have very specific interests, a comprehensive site like Twitter is not sufficient. They want to be part of a supportive online community that shares their particular passions. The following are examples of specialized websites for these people. Stache Passions It is a social site for people who wear, admire, or have an interest in moustaches. It features photos of men with all sizes and styles of moustaches, forums for discussing the history, growing, and styling of the stache, and even a meet-up page to help you meet other moustache-lovers. Horyou It is a website for people who want to do good in the world. On the site, you can connect with other social activists and entrepreneurs (企业家), plan meetings, share fund-raising strategies, and keep up with thousands of people who are working hard to make the world a better place. There are no funny videos here, but Horyou offers its own web-based video channel that features programs and documentaries about. efforts to improve people’s lives around the globe. Watching them will warm your heart and inspire you to work harder for a better world. Purrsonals It is a specialized site for those who love cats. Here you can meet and chat with cat-loving friends, set up play-dates with local people and their pets, and even find a temporary home for a cat in need. If your friends don’t like it when you share endless cute cat videos on your regular social site, Purrsonals is where people are sure to appreciate them! 1. Which site might be useful for those who are interested in appearance? A. Twitter. B. Stache Passions. C. Horyou. D. Purrsonals. 2. What can you do on Horyou? A. Watch funny short films. B. Collect ideas for making videos. C. Advertise for social activists. D. Discuss how to raise money. 3. Which of the following is true about Purrsonals? A. It offers a great many cat videos. B. It collects beautiful photos of cats. C. It helps people find their lost pets. D. It enables people to adopt various pets. B In 1990, during a performance of my stage play, I became preoccupied with one particular member of the audience. While everybody else laughed, there she sat, staring at the floor, with her fingers in her ears. I’ll never forget her look of complete discomfort. That woman was my mother. Despite the fact I’d established myself as a humorist, my mother never found me or my work particularly funny. She was my hardest critic. “Is Drew really that funny?” she’d ask family members. To make matters worse, the feeling was mutual (相互的): though our social circle swore that she was humorous, I never saw it. My mother was supposedly very funny in her first language, Anishinaabemowin—an Indigenous (原住民的) language, but alas, I didn’t speak it. At family gatherings, when somebody would say something “funny” in Anishinaabemowin, she’d explain it to me. Sometimes the humour translated. Sometimes it didn’t. For a while I was convinced I would never make her laugh. Then, in 2005, I succeeded. I had published a book called Me Funny. In it were dozens of essays deconstructing Indigenous humour, along with 50 so-called “Indian jokes” to break up the various chapters. (For instance, “Why do Native people hate snow? Because it’s white and all over our land.”) She laughed hard and declared, “Wow, that was funny!” In 2009, my mother passed away at the age of 77. During the funeral, in the tears, family member after family member got up and recounted things she had done and said over the years. To my surprise, I found myself laughing. Suddenly I remembered a moment from the early ‘90s, when my mother asked me, completely serious, what “owie” meant in French. I struggled to come up with an answer until I spelled it out in my mind: oui (“yes” in English). More and more stories about her surfaced. We laughed as we remembered her. I couldn’t see my mother’s forest for my own trees. I wish I could have shared those laughs with her while she was alive, but I’m glad I finally made the connection. 4. What prevented the author and his mother from understanding each other’s humour? A. Language barriers. B. The author’s unique job. C. Mom’s critical personality. D Views of Indigenous people. 5. Why did the author laugh at mother’s funeral? A. He tried to fit in his Indigenous family. B. He recalled amusing moments about mom. C. He wanted to hide his sadness over mother’s death. D. He intended his laugh to make mother rest in peace. 6. What does the underlined sentence mean? A. The author learned from mother a very important life lesson. B. The author failed to relate to his mother from her perspective. C. The author finally understood mother’s sense of humour better. D. The author didn’t write enough humorous books to make mother laugh. 7. Which of the following is the best title for the text? A. Am I funny? B. Why isn’t Mom laughing? C. What’s so funny? D. Does laughter have an accent? C When Thomas Edison hit a wall with his inventions, he would nap in an armchair while holding a steel ball. As he started to fall asleep and his muscles relaxed, the ball would strike the floor, waking him with insights into his problems. Or so the story goes. Thomas Edison was somewhat right. Now, more than 100 years later, scientists have repeated the trick in a lab, revealing that the famous inventor was on to something. People following his recipe tripled their chances of solving a math problem. The trick was to wake up in the transition between sleep and wakefulness, just before deep sleep. In this transitional period, we are not quite awake, but also not deeply asleep. It can be as short as a minute and occurs right when we start to doze off. Researchers recruited more than 100 easy sleepers, each of whom was given a math test with a hidden rule for the answer. By recording brain activity, they found that those who napped and were interrupted during the first phase of sleep were three times better at finding the hidden key to the problem than those who remained awake. The creative effect happened even for people who spent just 15 seconds in the first sleep stage. But the trick didn’t work for those who reached later stages of sleep. “Our findings suggest there is a creative sweet spot during sleep onset,” says author Delphine Oudiette, a sleep researcher at the Paris Brain Institute. “It is a small window which can disappear if you wake up too early or sleep too deep.” The study team also identified a brain activity pattern linked to the creativity-boosting phase: moderate levels of brain waves at a slow frequency known as alpha, associated with relaxation, and low levels of delta waves, a hallmark of deep sleep. Oudiette says researchers can now focus on this brain signature when investigating the neural mechanisms (神经机制) of creative problem-solving. The team has already planned an experiment to help people reach a creative zone by monitoring their brain waves in real time.“ Edison was great”, Oudiette says, “and now we have a lot more to explore.” 8. What does the underlined phrase “was on to something” in paragraph 2 probably mean? A. Discovered the truth. B. Was absorbed in math puzzles. C. Started the experiment. D. Was engaged in laboratory work. 9. According to the research, the trick of promoting creativity lies in ________. A. gaining adequate deep sleep B. discovering the hidden rules of problems C. following Edison’s life style D. waking up right after nodding off to sleep 10. Why did the researchers record brain activity of the sleepers? A. To evaluate their sleep efficiency. B. To measure their amount of sleep. C To assess their levels of intelligence. D. To compare their creative thinking abilities. 11. What is paragraph 5 mainly about? A. Supporting evidence for the research results. B. Potential application of the research findings C. A further explanation of the research methods. D. A reasonable doubt about the research process. D In the video game Space Invaders Extreme 2, a player has to fire weapons to destroy aliens (外星人) attacking Earth. These aliens move fast, raining down from the top of the screen and claiming a player’s “life” if they reach the bottom. A study in Nature suggests that while destroying digital aliens might seem unrelated to distinguishing between words, such action video games may help children at risk for developmental dyslexia—a genetic (遗传的, 基因的) language disorder that makes processing words difficult—by improving their ability to perceive spoken words and sounds. In the study, 79 prereading children with family histories of dyslexia took several language tests, including listening for differences in made-up words—a task that can be challenging for dyslexic people. The kids were then split into four groups. One played Space Invaders Extreme 2, a second played a non-action video game, a third attended speech therapy (疗法), and a fourth received no intervention. Gamers played four times a week for 45 minutes each over a month and a half, and those in speech therapy attended 45-minute sessions twice weekly over about four months. By the end of the trial more than 80 percent of the Space Invaders players were significantly better at the word-identification task than before, and they showed greater improvements than any of the other three groups. The researchers aren’t sure why scores on the other language tests did not improve notably—but they say that this finding could be valuable. “If we can target these small cognitive (认知的) functions before children are older and lose some brain plasticity, then perhaps we can treat aspects of dyslexia before they’ve fully formed, ” says Simone Gori, co-author of the study. Dyslexia often goes untreated in Italy’s overburdened public health and school systems, says Marilu Tempini, a behavioral neurologist at the University of California. She hopes to see larger future studies conducted in other languages as well. “Eyes are an extension of the brain, ” she says, “so when we play video games, it's directly connected to our cognitive function—and there is so much research potential there. ” 12. The author describes Space Invaders Extreme 2 in paragraph 1 to show the game is ________. A. violent B. skill-based C. action-packed D. entertaining 13. According to Simone Gori, what is the significance of the finding? A. It proves that children with dyslexia can be cured. B. It offers hope that the public health system in Italy will be improved. C. It suggests that video games can replace the traditional speech therapy. D. It indicates that action video games can be used for early intervention of dyslexia. 14. What is Marilu Tempini’s attitude towards the study? A. Doubtful. B. Favorable. C. Dismissive. D. Conserved. 15. Which of the following might be a suitable title for the text? A. Secrets Behind Dyslexia Revealed B. Action Video Games Advance Word Awareness C The Most Effective Coping Strategy for Dyslexia D. Video Games Designed to Improve Cognitive Function Establishing healthy boundaries with yourself will help you stay within your range of control and prioritize what matters most. Well, Ruby didn’t think she was. She sat next to Ollie and so she just copied him. This was the best way she had found to do maths and she didn’t have to think at all. One day the teacher said, “We will be having a maths test after lunch.” Ruby felt there were butterflies in the stomach. “Can I copy off you?” she whispered to Ollie. Ollie thought for a minute. “What will you give me?” he whispered back. Ruby showed Ollie a stone she had. It was round and smooth and the colour of the sea. “OK!” he said, “Give me the stone, and then you can copy my answers.” Ollie got full marks in the maths test and so did Ruby. Their names went on the top of the maths champion chart. Every week there was a maths test and every week Ollie and Ruby got full marks together. Ollie had to share the top place with Ruby, but it was worth it. He had a torch, a key chain, a golf ball and a gift box! One day, there was a maths test again. This time, Ruby picked a watch, thinking everything would go as usual—Ollie would let her copy and they would be on the top of the chart together again. But she was wrong. The headmaster came into Ruby’s class. “I want to see Ollie Simmons,” she said. Ollie was gone for a long time. Then the door opened. It was the headmaster again. “Ruby Riley,” she said, “Come with me, please.” Ruby felt like a bird in a cage—there was no way to escape. The headmaster told Ruby that every lunchtime for five weeks she had to do maths. “You have to learn to think for yourself,” she said. “And Ollie has to learn a lesson, too. He’s going to teach you.” Hanging her head down, Ruby felt so regretful for getting Ollie into trouble. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Ollie proved to be a good teacher for Ruby. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 2024-2025学年江苏省南京市雨花台中学 高二英语下学期期中考试试卷 全卷满分:150分 考试时间:120分钟 第一部分:听力(共两节,满分30分)(略) 第二部分:阅读(共两节,满分50分) 第一节(共15小题;每小题2.5分,满分37.5分) A Social networking websites are an important tool for us to keep up with the world, make new friends, and share pictures, videos, or bits of interesting news. Does laughter have an accent? A 5. B 6. B 7. 根据第三段“To make matters worse, the feeling was mutual : though our social circle swore that she was humorous, I never saw it. My mother was supposedly very funny in her first language, Anishinaabemowin—an Indigenous language, but alas, I didn’t speak it. At family gatherings, when somebody would say something “funny” in Anishinaabemowin, she’d explain it to me. Sometimes the humour translated. Sometimes it didn’t.”(更糟糕的是,这种感觉是相互的:虽然我们的社交圈都说她很幽默,但我从来没有看到过。我的母亲在她的第一语言anishinaabemowin(一种土著语言)中被认为非常有趣,但是,唉,我不会说这种语言。 故选A项。 根据第五、六段中“During the funeral, in the tears, family member after family member got up and recounted things she had done and said over the years. To my surprise, I found myself laughing. Suddenly I remembered a moment from the early ‘90s, when my mother asked me, completely serious, what “owie” meant in French. 根据第三段中“To make matters worse, the feeling was mutual : though our social circle swore that she was humorous, I never saw it.”(更糟糕的是,这种感觉是相互的:虽然我们的社交圈都说她很幽默,但我从来没有看到过。)以及文章最后一句“I wish I could have shared those laughs with her while she was alive, but I’m glad I finally made the connection.”(我希望我能在她活着的时候和她分享那些笑声,但我很高兴我终于建立了联系。) 通读全文,尤其是第二段中“Despite the fact I’d established myself as a humorist, my mother never found me or my work particularly funny. She was my hardest critic. “Is Drew really that funny?” she’d ask family members.”(尽管我已经把自己塑造成一个幽默作家,但我母亲从未觉得我或我的作品特别有趣。 和第四段“For a while I was convinced I would never make her laugh. Then, in 2005, I succeeded. I had published a book called Me Funny. In it were dozens of essays deconstructing Indigenous humour, along with 50 so-called “Indian jokes” to break up the various chapters. (For instance, “Why do Native people hate snow? Because it’s white and all over our land.”) She laughed hard and declared, “Wow, that was funny!””(有一段时间,我确信我永远也逗不了她笑。 C When Thomas Edison hit a wall with his inventions, he would nap in an armchair while holding a steel ball. 8. A 9. D 10. D 11. Now, more than 100 years later, scientists have repeated the trick in a lab, revealing that the famous inventor was on to something. People following his recipe tripled their chances of solving a math problem. 由此推知,划线词组was on to something和Discovered the truth.(发现了真相)意思相近。故选A项。 根据第二段中“The trick was to wake up in the transition between sleep and wakefulness, just before deep sleep. In this transitional period, we are not quite awake, but also not deeply asleep. It can be as short as a minute and occurs right when we start to doze off.(诀窍是在睡眠和清醒之间的过渡阶段醒来,就在深度睡眠之前。 它可能只有一分钟,就发生在我们开始打瞌睡的时候)”以及第三段中“By recording brain activity, they found that those who napped and were interrupted during the first phase of sleep were three times better at finding the hidden key to the problem than those who remained awake.(通过记录大脑活动,他们发现那些在睡眠第一阶段被打断的人在找到问题隐藏的关键方面比那些保持清醒的人好三倍)”以及第四段中“The creative effect happened even for people who spent just 15 seconds in the first sleep stage. But the trick didn’t work for those who reached later stages of sleep. 根据第三段中“By recording brain activity, they found that those who napped and were interrupted during the first phase of sleep were three times better at finding the hidden key to the problem than those who remained awake.(通过记录大脑活动,他们发现那些在睡眠第一阶段被打断的人在找到问题隐藏的关键方面比那些保持清醒的人好三倍)”可知,研究人员记录睡眠者的大脑活动是为了比较他们的创造性思维能力。 根据第五段中“The study team also identified a brain activity pattern linked to the creativity-boosting phase: moderate levels of brain waves at a slow frequency known as alpha, associated with relaxation, and low levels of delta waves, a hallmark of deep sleep. Oudiette says researchers can now focus on this brain signature when investigating the neural mechanisms of creative problem-solving. The team has already planned an experiment to help people reach a creative zone by monitoring their brain waves in real time.(研究团队还发现了一种与创造力提升阶段相关的大脑活动模式:与放松有关的被称为α的中等水平的慢频率脑电波,以及深度睡眠的标志——低水平的δ波。 D In the video game Space Invaders Extreme 2, a player has to fire weapons to destroy aliens (外星人) attacking Earth. A violent B. skill-based C. action-packed D. entertaining 13. A. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】参考范文 Hanging her head down, Ruby felt so regretful for getting Ollie into trouble. She realized it was her fault that put them into such a shameful situation. “I am so sorry that I’d like to make a sincere apology to you.” Ruby said to Ollie with tears rolling down her cheeks. Hearing this, Ollie felt ashamed with his cheeks burning and said, “I should also take the responsibility for the matter. To make up for this fault, I will try my best to help you.” Ruby wiped her tears and was determined to spare no effort to learn maths with Ollie. Ollie proved to be a good teacher for Ruby. He was always ready to help whenever Ruby met with difficulties. As time went by, with the assistance of Ollie, Ruby gradually made great progress in maths. Eventually, they both got full marks in the final examination once again. The headmaster praised them for the progress they had made. It was at the moment that they really felt proud of themselves. What an unforgettable and meaningful experience, which taught them a lesson of honesty and true friendship. 词汇激活 行为类 道歉:make an apology/apologize 努力:spare no effort to /try one’s best to/ do one’s utmost 意识到:realize/be aware of 情绪类 真诚:sincere /heartfelt 难忘:unforgettable /memorable 【点睛】[高分句型1] I am so sorry that I’d like to make a sincere apology to you.
