Back then, we lived at our grandparents’ house in Oceanside, California. Finances were tight since my father had retired from the Air Force and had yet to find steady employment. In addition, we were struggling to find an affordable place to call our own. I suppose it would have been easy to give in to frustration. But my mom had other ideas, using the situation to give my brother Jess and me fond memories that would affect our perspective forever. However, I only appreciated the full extent of her wisdom many years later. As it was, once or twice a week, my mom would lead Jess and me up the slope (斜坡) from our grandparents’ house to the nearest bus stop, and from there we would go on to “see the world”. The public transportation system around the area was remarkably extensive. For a very low fee, it was possible to purchase a ticket that allowed riders to go aboard all the buses they wanted throughout an entire day. My mom studied this system well, and she would guide us to a wide variety of destinations. Among our most frequented points of interest was the mall in Carlsbad. There was a large, glass clock tower that stood at its very heart. It featured gears (齿轮) and other mechanisms that rolled rubber balls along rails, bouncing them onto drums and then ramps (坡道), and sending them back up in little elevators to make the whole journey again. The sight always drew a small crowd throughout the day, mostly children. We would window-shop at the mall and in the surrounding neighborhood. We weren’t there to buy. The goal was to enjoy the sights and do some people-watching too. On other adventures, we would take the bus all the way to Strand Beach, where we collected sand dollars and shells for souvenirs. We would watch ships sail past in the distance and often heard helicopters or other aircraft soar overhead on their way to the naval base at Camp Pendleton. 4. What was the family’s situation when the writer was about seven? A. They had just moved to a big house. B. The father served in the Navy Force. C. They did not have enough money. D. They often went on expensive trips. 5. Why did the mother take the children on bus trips? A. To show them how to use public transportation. B. To create happy memories despite hardship. C. To help the children to make more good friends. D. To make them forget about their grandparents. 6. What can we learn about the glass clock tower in the Carlsbad mall? A. It sold kids various interesting toys. B. It had a complex mechanical system. C. It was mainly visited by grown-ups. D. It was used to tell the time accurately. 7. Which of the following can best describe the mother? A. Ambitious and strict. B. Lazy and irresponsible. C. Optimistic and resourceful. D. Moody and impatient. C A University of Georgia study reveals that with the expansion of social media, awareness of cryptocurrencies (加密货币) has sharply increased, and online exposure significantly influences people’s investment behavior. Cryptocurrencies, digital currencies used for both payment and investment, have skyrocketed in popularity, especially through social media platforms. Around half of the surveyed social media users have already invested in them. Fascinatingly, the more social media platforms a user frequents, the higher the probability of investing. YouTube, Reddit, Twitter, and Clubhouse users show a greater tendency to invest, probably because these platforms allow for detailed discussions. In contrast, Instagram users are less enthusiastic about crypto due to its focus on visuals. The study indicates that men, individuals with a higher risk tolerance, and younger people are more likely to invest in crypto, while those with a higher education level and older individuals are less so. Interest in crypto has nearly doubled from 2018 to 2021. However, investing in crypto comes with high risks as its value can be extremely volatile and unpredictable. People should not mindlessly follow the investment trend but carefully evaluate whether it goes with their financial goals. Social media, unfortunately, is full of misinformation and cheating, making it an unreliable source for crypto investment. Younger investors, who are both major social media users and more liable to invest in crypto, urgently need proper guidance. The researchers not only encourage policymakers to consider these findings when establishing regulations for cryptocurrencies but also advocate for an increase in media literacy education. This will enable people to better distinguish authentic information from falsehoods, thus making more informed investment decisions. For instance, false news on social media can cause sudden price variation in the crypto market, highlighting the importance of being perceptive (敏锐的). Additionally, the appeal of quick profits on social media often blinds investors to the underlying risks, further emphasizing the need for caution. 8. Why are users of YouTube, Reddit, Twitter and Clubhouse more likely to invest in crypto? A. For their popularity. B. For their function. C. For their security. D. For their simplicity. 9. Who are most likely to invest in cryptocurrencies based on the study? A. Men and individuals with a higher education. B. Older folks with higher risk preference. C. Men and those with a high risk tolerance. D. Women and those with low risk appetite. 10. What does the underlined word “volatile” in Para.2 probably mean? A. Stable. B. Changeable. C. Predictable. D. Invaluable. 11. Why do younger investors need guidance in crypto investment? A. They’re not greatly interested in investment. B. They’re not major social platform users. C. They’re more likely to invest in trap-filled crypto. D. They’re much easier to fall into investment traps. D The researchers point to other research that suggests there are two main reasons behind the monarch (帝王蝶) migration losses. The first is the increasing number of a parasite (寄生虫) which is quite harmful to monarchs. The number has increased tenfold since the early 2000s. This increase corresponds with increased plantings of nonnative milkweeds throughout the flyway. Many infected monarch caterpillars (幼虫) don’t make it to adulthood. Those that do can’t fly well and don’t live long, possibly contributing to the fallout of butterflies along the migration path. Nonnative milkweeds have longer growing seasons, and as a result these plants may lead to more monarchs becoming infected with the parasite because the infectious parasite spores (孢子) can build up on their leaves. The second possible driver is the release of captive-reared (圈养的) butterflies by well-meaning people who are hoping to help the monarchs. “All of the evidence we have shows that when monarchs are reared in a captive environment, either indoors or outdoors, they’re not as good at migrating,” Davis said. The researchers-urge people to take a less is more approach when it comes to monarchs. Although well intended many of the things people do to try to help, such as planting nonnative milkweeds or raising monarchs for release in captivity, may actually be harming the monarch population by reducing their ability to migrate long distances. Planting flowering plants — but not tropical milkweed — along the migration path won’t hurt and may provide a source of nectar (花蜜) for traveling butterflies. “One of the best things people can do to ensure that the monarchs are as strong and healthy as possible is basically just leave the caterpillars alone in your backyard,” Davis said. “Resist the temptation to bring them inside and protect them because it seems like Mother Nature does a better job at creating really healthy, strong migrators than we do.” 12. What has led to the rise in the monarch parasite number since the 2000s? A. Decline in native milkweeds. B. Longer migration distances. C. More nonnative milkweed plantings. D. Lower caterpillar survival rate. 13. Why do captive-reared monarchs struggle with migration? A. Unfamiliarity with the outdoor environment. B. Impact of captive conditions. C. Difficulty finding food mid-migration. D. Higher parasite attack risk. 14. What can be inferred from the text about helping monarchs? A. Planting nonnative milkweeds is beneficial. B. Captive-rearing boosts the monarch population. C. Letting caterpillars be in nature is advisable. D. Tropical milkweed aids migrating butterflies. 15. What would be the best title for the text? A. Monarchs: Migration Problems and Human Impact B. The Mysterious Migration of Monarch Butterflies C. Captive-rearing: A Savior for Monarch Butterflies? D. The Role of Milkweeds in Monarch Butterflies’ Life 5 Daily Habits of Naturally Polite People Some people seem to have been born with empathy (共情) to spare. Yours. I was in my first week of a Peace Corps assignment in a Dominican Republic sampo (草原). Struggling with Spanish, I felt lonely. My host family had a bony white cat with a black eye-patch that ‘didn’t speak Spanish either, so we quickly bonded. In town, I bought cat food for the underfed Mishu, not knowing it would cause trouble. In the campo, cats are for killing rats, and if they’re underfed, it means they haven’t done their job. Buying food when there were rats and hungry kids seemed strange and even offensive to the community. I tried explaining pets are family in my country, but my broken Spanish just left them more confused, with puzzled looks on their faces. I still fed Mishu twice a day, and she’d come running from far away, amazing the locals. Then I got sick. When I recovered, Mishu was gone. A neighbor had taken and tied her up. I asked why no one had gone to get her, but wasn’t too surprised to hear the response of “It’s just a cat”. I went to ask why he had taken the kitten, and he claimed she was his. I offered to buy her, but he refused, saying she needed to catch rats. Back home, I cried. People, seeing my distress over an animal for the first time, felt sympathetic. They found the original owner, who brought Mishu back. The owner offered to gift her, but I paid 500 pesos (about 15 dollars). The community was shocked at the high price I placed on a cat. Later, when I moved to my own house, Mishu was unhappy. She’d meow non-stop in the new place until I visited the old home. When it was time to leave, she’d follow, meowing all the way. The community joked I hadn’t consulted her, as it was unusual to think an animal had an opinion. They watched in amusement as Mishu, her tail held high, led the way back and forth, clearly showing her strong preference for the old home. During my time with Mishu, she provided many “firsts” for the campo. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ When Mishu disappeared the following year, people went out and searched for her, without being asked. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 2025年普通高等学校招生全国统一考试 高考模拟调研卷英语(七) 英语测试卷共8页,满分150分。 How much is the shirt? 4. C 5. B 6. B 7. B 9. C 10. B 11. 根据第一段“YouTube, Reddit, Twitter, and Clubhouse users show a greater tendency to invest, probably because these platforms allow for detailed discussions. (YouTube、Reddit、Twitter和Clubhouse的用户表现出更大的投资倾向,可能是因为这些平台允许进行详细的讨论)”可知,这些平台的用户更有可能投资加密货币是因为它们的功能,即可以进行详细讨论。故选B项。 【9题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段“The study indicates that men, individuals with a higher risk tolerance, and younger people are more likely to invest in crypto, while those with a higher education level and older individuals are less so. (从2018年到2021年,人们对加密货币的兴趣几乎翻了一番。然而,投资加密货币伴随着高风险,因为它的价值可能极其volatile且不可预测)”可知,投资加密货币的风险高,即加密货币的价值可能是易变的且不可预测,推测划线单词volatile意为“易变的;变化无常的”,与Changeable意思相近。故选B项。 【11题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段“Social media, unfortunately, is full of misinformation and cheating, making it an unreliable source for crypto investment. Younger investors, who are both major social media users and more liable to invest in crypto, urgently need proper guidance. (不幸的是,社交媒体上充斥着错误信息和欺诈行为,这使得它成为加密货币投资的不可靠信息来源。年轻投资者既是社交媒体的主要用户,又更倾向于投资加密货币,他们迫切需要适当的指导)”可知,年轻投资者需要在加密货币投资方面的指导是因为他们更容易陷入充满陷阱的投资中,社交媒体的错误信息和欺诈很容易误导他们。故选D项。 D The researchers point to other research that suggests there are two main reasons behind the monarch (帝王蝶) migration losses. Although well intended, many of the things people do to try to help, such as planting nonnative milkweeds or raising monarchs for release in captivity, may actually be harming the monarch population by reducing their ability to migrate long distances. D. The Role of Milkweeds in Monarch Butterflies’ Life 【答案】12. C 13. B 14. C 15. 根据文章第二段“The first is the increasing number of a parasite(寄生虫)which is quite harmful to monarchs. The number has increased tenfold since the early 2000s. This increase corresponds with increased plantings of nonnative milkweeds throughout the flyway.(第一个原因是一种对帝王蝶极具危害的寄生虫数量不断增加。 根据文章第五段““All of the evidence we have shows that when monarchs are reared in a captive environment, either indoors or outdoors, they’re not as good at migrating,” Davis said.(Davis说:“我们掌握的所有证据都表明,当帝王蝶在圈养环境中饲养时,无论是在室内还是室外,它们的迁徙能力都会变弱。”)” 根据文章最后一段““One of the best things people can do to ensure that the monarchs are as strong and healthy as possible is basically just leave the caterpillars alone in your backyard,” Davis said. “Resist the temptation to bring them inside and protect them because it seems like Mother Nature does a better job at creating really healthy, strong migrators than we do.”(Davis说:“为了确保帝王蝶尽可能强壮和健康,人们能做的最好的事情之一基本上就是不要去管你后院里的那些帝王蝶幼虫。 故选A。 5 Daily Habits of Naturally Polite People Some people seem to have been born with empathy (共情) to spare. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version: During my time with Mishu, she provided many “firsts” for the campo. For the first time, they saw a cat being pampered like a family member. They witnessed me talking to her, stroking her gently, and even taking her for walks. Some kids, initially scared of this new-fangled idea of treating a cat as a pet, gradually got curious and started approaching Mishu with caution. The adults watched in amazement as I made a small bed for her and played with her using a handmade toy. It was a new concept for them, and slowly, they began to see the affectionate side of cats beyond just rat-catchers. When Mishu disappeared the following year, people went out and searched for her, without being asked. The community, which had once been confused about my attachment to a cat, now understood her importance to me. Men left their fields, women put aside their household chores, and kids joined in the search. They called out “Mishu” with as much concern as I did. After hours of searching, a young boy found her stuck in a fence a few miles away. When he brought her back, I was overjoyed. This time, the whole community celebrated Mishu’s return, having truly become a part of the unique bond between me and my beloved cat. 搁置一边:put aside/set aside 情绪类 ①害怕:scared/frightened ②困惑的:confused/bewildered/puzzled 【点睛】【高分句型1】The adults watched in amazement as I made a small bed for her and played with her using a handmade toy.(运用了as引导的时间状语从句) 【高分句型2】The community, which had once been confused about my attachment to a cat, now understood her importance to me.(运用了which引导的非限制性定语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
