B During the Paris Olympic Games, Google unveiled an Olympics-themed advertisement to promote its Gemini AI chatbot. Surprisingly, the ad sparked heated criticism, leading Google to remove it a week after its release. The ad showed a father using Google’s Gemini AI chatbot to help his daughter write a fan letter to US Olympic track star. Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone. In the ad, the father believes AI will do a better job than himself, “she wants to show Sydney some love and I’m pretty good with words but this has to be just right.” However, this idea didn’t win over viewers. “This advertisement is misleading, as it overestimates AI’s ability to understand and convey the subtle differences of human emotions and thoughts,” wrote Shelly Palmer, a media processor at Syracuse University in the US, in a blog post. “Who wants an AI-written fan letter?” one viewer added. Viewers also expressed concern that too much reliance on AI tools could ruin children’s learning opportunities. “Instead of guiding her to use her own words and communicate authentically (真实地), [the father] is teaching her to rely on AI for this critical human skill,” said Palmer. Palmer stressed that our use of language deeply shapes our reality. For example, you or I might refer to a color as “red”, but that same color might be labeled “scarlet” by an artist or “dark rose” by an interior designer. Language not only communicates information but also reflects the speaker’s unique perspective. “Google seems to suggest that this young girl doesn’t need to develop her own ability to express and shape her reality,” said Palmer. The use of generative AI also lacks the emotional depth that comes from personal expression. Palmer once received a message from a reader years ago that read: “You’re too stupid to own a smart phone.” He loved this humorously sarcastic (讽刺的) email so much that he had it framed on his office wall. “It was honest, direct (and probably accurate),” he said. “Give me a heartfelt message over a grammatically correct, AI-generated message any day.” 4. What does the underlined word “unveiled” in paragraph 1 most probably mean? A. Removed. B. Released. C. Dismissed. D. Disapproved. 5. Why did Google’s Olympics-themed advertisement receive criticism? A. It discouraged children from learning proper writing techniques through AI. B. It inaccurately described the capabilities of Gemini AI in grammar correction. C. It overestimated the importance of emotional depth in human communication. D. It suggested AI could replace authentic human expression in emotional contexts. 6. What does Shelly Palmer imply by mentioning the example of color descriptions? A. Professional terms are essential for accurate communication. B. AI struggles to distinguish slight differences in vocabulary usage. C. Standardized language ensures efficient information transmission. D. Language mirrors personal viewpoints and constructs one’s reality. 7. Which of the following can be the best title for the passage? A. Can AI Paint Human Souls? B. Can AI Silence Human Voices? C. Olympic Spark: AI Language Learning D. AI Criticism: Gemini’s Expression Error C Armed conflicts are known to impact humans significantly, but their effects on animals have often been underestimated. A recent study in Current Biology highlighted that the migration (迁徙) and reproduction of the endangered Greater Spotted Eagle may have been influenced by regional conflicts. The Greater Spotted Eagle is listed as vulnerable on the International Union for Conservation of Nature's red list. They migrate through Ukraine between wintering areas in southern Europe and East Africa and key breeding (繁衍) grounds in southern Belarus in spring. The research team studied 19 migrating GPS-tagged Greater Spotted Eagles in March and April of 2022. The flight altitude during this period was relatively low, about 350 meters, exposing them to regions of intense human conflicts. Their data suggested that increased military activity like jets, tanks and other weapons could disturb the eagles. When exposed to such events, the eagles might change their flight path to escape. The researchers found that while migrating through Ukraine, the eagles deviated (偏离) 10 percent more compared to previous years, which resulted in longer migration distances. Also, the birds made about 60 percent fewer stops during the migration. Human conflicts can affect the eagle’s decisions about when to take breaks during their journey, leading them to choose to keep moving even when they might need to rest. More notably, the eagles, which breed relatively slowly, face disturbances that impact chick (雏鸟)care and breeding success. It only takes minor conflicts to push animal populations into the danger zone. “Even with the onset of what could be a fairly minor conflict from a human perspective, we see the average wildlife population declining,” Joshua Daskin, an ecologist at Yale University told The New York Times. A large number of animal protection organizations have carried out disaster relief work to rescue, feed, treat and support animals during conflicts. However, very few have the resources to tackle the root problems. International humanitarian law lacks clear rules to relieve animal suffering in armed conflicts. Efforts like a 1995 draft prohibition to stop military activities in protected areas have not yet led to an international treaty (协定). International policies still need significant improvements to recognize and protect animals in conflict zones. 8. Which aspect of the Greater Spotted Eagles does the recent study focus on? A. Their survival skills. B. Their physical health. C. Their breeding habits. D. Their seasonal behavior. 9. How did regional conflicts affect the Greater Spotted Eagles? A. They increased their flight altitude. B. They did not follow their typical flight paths. C. They flew directly to their breeding grounds. D. They stopped more frequently during migration. 10. What does Joshua Daskin say about human conflicts? A. They affect certain animal species. B. They pose greater harm to humans than animals. C. Even small conflicts can negatively impact wildlife. D. Minor conflicts have a temporary effect on animals. 11. What is the last paragraph mainly about? A. The impact of wars on animal rescue work. B. The success of wildlife conservation efforts. C. The limitations of current animal protection laws. D. The challenges of enforcing international treaties. D One of our expectations about education is that it will pay off in terms of upward mobility. Historically, the correlation between education and income has been strong. But in the early 1970s a contradiction developed between education and the economy. Our value of education and our average educational attainment (受教育程度) surpassed the capacity of the economy to absorb the graduates. Since the 1970s, high-school graduates have experienced a striking decrease in earnings, making them the first generation since World War II to face a lower standard of living than their parents had. Experts have argued that this contradiction is at the heart of the problem of public education today. It is not, as business leaders claim, that the schools are failing to properly educate students, that they are turning out young people who are inadequately prepared to function in the workplace. The real problem is a shortage of economic opportunities for students who are not continuing on to college. College graduates also are having difficulty finding jobs. Even when they do, the jobs may not meet their expectations. Part of the problem is that too many young Americans desire to have professional jobs, making disappointment and frustration inevitable to r some. Many students assumed that what was true of an individual — that the higher the education, the better the job opportunities — would also be true for an entire society. But when the numbers of better-educated young people became too great, the economy could no longer absorb them. Another part of the problem is the assumption that greater educational attainment guarantees career advancement. In fact, employers do not routinely reward educational attainment; rather, they reward it only when they believe it will contribute to the employee’s productivity. We should not overlook the fact that there is still a strong correlation between education, occupation, and income. College graduates have a strong advantage over those with less education. But the payoff is neither as large nor as certain as it once was. Unfortunately, Americans have focused so strongly on the economic payoff that many consider their coffee education useless if it does not yield a desirable, well-paying job. Only in thus sense can we speak of an “oversupply” of college graduates. We could argue that all or at least the majority of Americans would profit by some degree because higher education can enable the individual to think more deeply, explore more widely, and enjoy a greater range of experiences. 12. What is the main contradiction discussed in the passage? A. Rising educational costs vs. declining family incomes. B. Professional job expectations vs. technical skill shortages. C. Higher educational attainment vs. insufficient economic opportunities. D. Industry-specific requirements vs. fixed mainstream educational curricula. 13. Why did high-school graduates after the 1970s face lower living standards? A. Their educational quality significantly dropped. B. They refused to accept non-professional positions. C. Global competition reduced domestic employment. D. The economy failed to provide enough jobs for them. 14. What can be inferred about college graduates’ job struggles? A. They lack practical workplace skills. B. Employers undervalue advanced degrees. C. Their career expectations are often unrealistic. D. Automation has replaced most professional jobs. 15. What defines the “oversupply” of graduates according to the author? A. A systemic failure of universities B. Education’s value measured by income C. A myth employers use to drive down wages D. Industries artificially limiting opportunities Don’t Let Personality Types Define You Personality tests, especially the Myers-Briggs type indicator (MBTI), are popular tools that many people use to better understand themselves and their relationships with others. MBTI sorts people into 16 different personality types based on four key categories. ___16___ The MBTI system provides a simple way to categorize individuals based on their preferences. But people are complex. Our personalities can change over time, depending on experiences and growth. What the MBTI test reveals is just a snapshot of one’s preferences, not a complete definition of who you are. For example, if the test labels (贴标签) you as an “introvert (内向的人)”, you may feel tempted to avoid social communication because you think it’s not in your nature to be outgoing. But you might find that your ability to enjoy social events increases over time. ___17___ You should see it as a starting point for self-reflection and growth. Similarly, if you are categorized as a “thinking” type, it might lead you to believe that you are always rational (理性的), while neglecting your “feeling” side. ___18___ Emotional response is also an essential part of human nature, and embracing them can enhance your decision-making process and relationships. ___19___. They might think, for instance, that an “introvert” would not be a good leader. But there are countless examples of introverts succeeding in these types of roles. Many introverts achieve success through careful listening and thoughtful decision-making. Don’t let the MBTI label stop you from pursuing opportunities that feel right for you. Finally, one of the most important lessons we can learn from the MBTI is that we are not defined by one test or label. The test results should be seen as a guide, not a limitation. By focusing on our strengths and embracing the full complexity of our personalities, we can lead richer and more fulfilling lives. ___20___ A. We are all more than the labels we receive. B. The key is not to accept the label as an unchangeable fact. C. However, it’s essential to understand that both parts are valuable. D. We must admit emotion’s significant role in personal development. E. Try to focus on your strengths rather than worry about your weaknesses. F. Additionally, many people believe their “type” restricts their career or life choices. G. Although these tests can provide useful insights, they shouldn’t define or limit you. “Why don’t you ‘act black’?’’ Since my middle school years, I’ve been asked this question more than any other. It seems to me that too many people have let society ___21___ into their brains what should be expected of me, a black person, before ever ___22___ with me. But I believe in being who I am, not who others want me to be. On my first day of high school, going into math class, two of my classmates ___23___ and laughed at me. I ___24___ thought it was my bed head, or that there was something ___25___ on the back of my shirt. An honors level class had simply been joined by a student whose skin was an unsettling ___27___ of brown. Many people think my clothes should be big enough for me to ___28___, or expect me to listen ___29___ to “black music.” In seventh grade, a group of my peers fixed their cold stares on my outfit — cargo shorts and a plain, fitting T-shirt. They called out to me, “Go get some clothes, white boy.” In one of my music classes, the teacher asked me, “Do you like rap music more?” I replied, “No, rock.” The look of ____30____ on my classmates’ faces made me feel profoundly strange. I am now in my junior year of high school. I still take all Honors courses. My wardrobe still only consists of clothes that are ____31____ to my proportions (身体比例). My music ____32____ ranges from rock to pop to techno, and almost everything in between. When it comes to choosing my friends, I am still ____33____. I continue to do my best work in school in order to reach my goals, ____34____ when I look in the mirror, I still see skin of that same shade of brown. The sign on it said Little Free Library. “I’ve heard of those,” Mateo’s older sister, Luisa, said. “People build them and put books inside. Other people take the books they want and add ones they’ve already read.” “I want to make something like that,” said Mateo. “For kids to trade books. Will you help me build one?” “Sure,” said Luisa. “I’ll ask Papa if we can use his tools.” Mateo ran inside to collect books while Luisa talked to Papa. With Papa’s help, they built a wooden box. They put a door on it and attached the box to a post. Then they dug a hole in their front yard and lifted the post into the hole. Mateo arranged the books inside the box and closed the door. “Now I just have to wait,” he said. Mateo ran outside three times that day to check. But each time, his books were the only ones inside. For the next few days, Mateo kept checking the box, but his books were still there. He really wanted his idea to work, but it seemed that kids didn’t notice it or they didn’t want to share their books. A sinking sense of discouragement consumed him. The next two days, Mateo didn’t check the box. “Aren’t you going to check your little library, Mateo?” Luisa asked. “Why bother?” he asked. Luisa shrugged. “Maybe someone decided to trade after all. You should look.” Mateo trudged down the walkway to the box. He opened the door. His books were gone and new books filled the box. “It worked!” Mateo exclaimed. 注意: 1.所续写短文的词数应为150左右; 2.请按如下格式在相应位置作答。 Just then, his next-door neighbor Julianne walked up carrying two books. “What worked?” she asked. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Mateo ran over to Luisa and gave her a big hug. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 南京师大附中2024-2025学年度第2学期 高二年级期中考试英语试卷 注意事项: 考生在答题前请认真阅读本注意事项及各题答题要求。 1. 1. C It overestimated the importance of emotional depth in human communication. AI Criticism: Gemini’s Expression Error 【答案】4. B 5. D 6. D 7. B 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇议论文。主要介绍了谷歌在巴黎奥运会期间推出的奥运会主题广告因暗示人工智能可取代真实人类情感表达而遭批评,凸显了人工智能在情感表达方面的局限性 。 【4题详解】 词句猜测题。根据第一段“During the Paris Olympic Games, Google unveiled an Olympics-themed advertisement to promote its Gemini AI chatbot. Surprisingly, the ad sparked heated criticism, leading Google to remove it a week after its release.(在巴黎奥运会期间,谷歌unveiled一个奥运会主题广告来推广其双子座AI聊天机器人。令人惊讶的是,该广告引发了激烈的批评,导致谷歌在发布一周后将其删除)”可知,谷歌是先“推出”广告,后因批评而删除,划线单词unveiled表示“推出”,与Released意义相近。故选B项。 【5题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段““This advertisement is misleading, as it overestimates AI’s ability to understand and convey the subtle differences of human emotions and thoughts,” wrote Shelly Palmer, a media processor at Syracuse University in the US, in a blog post. “Who wants an AI-written fan letter?” one viewer added. Viewers also expressed concern that too much reliance on AI tools could ruin children’s learning opportunities.(美国锡拉丘兹大学的媒体处理器Shelly Palmer在一篇博客文章中写道:“这则广告具有误导性,因为它高估了人工智能理解和传达人类情感和思想细微差异的能力。”。一位观众补充道:“谁想要一封人工智能写的粉丝信?”。观众还表示担心,过度依赖人工智能工具可能会破坏儿童的学习机会)”、第四段““Instead of guiding her to use her own words and communicate authentically (真实地), [the father] is teaching her to rely on AI for this critical human skill,” said Palmer.(帕尔默说:“(父亲)没有引导她使用自己的语言和真实的交流,而是教她依靠人工智能来掌握这一关键的人类技能。”)”以及第五段“Palmer stressed that our use of language deeply shapes our reality. For example, you or I might refer to a color as “red”, but that same color might be labeled “scarlet” by an artist or “dark rose” by an interior designer. Language not only communicates information but also reflects the speaker’s unique perspective. “Google seems to suggest that this young girl doesn’t need to develop her own ability to express and shape her reality,” said Palmer.(帕尔默强调,我们对语言的使用深刻地塑造了我们的现实。 根据第四段““Instead of guiding her to use her own words and communicate authentically (真实地), [the father] is teaching her to rely on AI for this critical human skill,” said Palmer.(帕尔默说:“(父亲)没有引导她使用自己的语言和真实的交流,而是教她依靠人工智能来掌握这一关键的人类技能。”)”以及第五段“Palmer stressed that our use of language deeply shapes our reality. 【答案】8. D 9. B 10. C 11. Industries artificially limiting opportunities 【答案】12. C 13. D 14. C 15. 【答案】16. G 17. B 18. C 19. F 20. A 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。主要介绍了MBTI人格测试虽受欢迎,但不应定义或限制人,应视结果为成长指引。 【16题详解】 根据上文“Personality tests, especially the Myers-Briggs type indicator (MBTI), are popular tools that many people use to better understand themselves and their relationships with others. MBTI sorts people into 16 different personality types based on four key categories. 注意: 1.所续写短文词数应为150左右; 2.请按如下格式在相应位置作答。 Just then, his next-door neighbor Julianne walked up carrying two books. “What worked?” she asked. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Mateo ran over to Luisa and gave her a big hug ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 Just then, his next-door neighbor Julianne walked up carrying two books. “What worked?” she asked. Mateo grinned, pointing at the box brimming with new titles. “Our Little Free Library! Kids finally traded books!” Julianne’s eyes lit up. “That’s so cool! I brought these,” she said, placing a mystery novel and a comic book inside. “I read them last week and thought others might like them.” Mateo thanked her, asking if she’d tell her friends. “Of course!” she promised. As Julianne skipped away, Mateo noticed a handwritten note tucked beside the books: “Thanks for sharing! — A kid who loves stories.” He realized the library wasn’t just about books — it was about connecting people. Mateo ran over to Luisa and gave her a big hug. “You were right! The library does work!” he exclaimed. Luisa laughed, patting his shoulder. “Told you patience pays off. Want to leave a sign explaining how it works?” Mateo nodded eagerly. They crafted a colorful poster explaining the rules: “Take a book, leave a book. Share your favorites!” By sunset, more kids gathered, chatting about their favorite stories. That night, Mateo wrote in his journal: “Today, I learned that good ideas take time — and a little help from friends — to bloom.” The Little Free Library wasn’t just a box anymore; it was a tiny world where kindness grew. 词汇激活 行为类 ① 放置:place/put ②承诺:promise/make a promise ③意识到: realize/be aware 情绪类 ① 笑:grin/smile widely ② 善意:kindness/goodwill 【点睛】【高分句型1】Mateo thanked her, asking if she’d tell her friends.
