Others value them as a source of precious pearls. But to Demi Johnson, a 15-year-old from Mississippi, US, oysters are very useful for the environment. “After learning that oyster reefs and gardens are endangered, I felt inspired to help the environment and give back,” Johnson told WLOX, a news website. The Mississippi Department of Marine Resources says that the number of oysters in Mississippi’s coastal waters has dropped a lot because of human-made and natural disasters. Johnson argued that the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill, as well as the 2020 opening of the Bonnet Care Spillway, a flood control project, made the situation more severe. “My solution is to partner with educational institutions and teach others to grow their own off-farm oysters,” she told How Africa News. When Johnson started oyster gardening in 2022 at Schooner Pier on Biloxi Bay, she didn't know anything about the subject. Today, she’s something of an expert. Through oyster gardening, she learned many things: a single oyster can clean up to 50 gallons of seawater a day, removing algae and harmful organisms. Big groups of oysters form reefs, providing habitat for hundreds of other sea creatures. Now, Johnson has already raised more than 1,500 oysters, which will have a tremendous ecological impact by releasing millions of larvae (幼虫) into the environment. During oyster gardening season, she and her mom go to Biloxi Bay to check her cages and remove algae and predators such as snails and crabs. She also tries to encourage others to get involved. “You don’t have to do a lot to take care of your oyster garden”, she told Times for Kids, “but the impact it has on the environment is great.” She was also a great supporter of ecological causes. Last year, after winning a National Geographic award for her efforts to recover her state’s oyster population, Johnson donated the $1,000 cash prize to the Mississippi Oyster Gardening Program. 4. What inspired Demi Johnson to start oyster gardening? A. Her great interest in seafood. B. Her concern about oyster reefs. C. Her school project requirement. D. Her mother’s encouragement. 5. What contributes to the decline of oyster population? A. Oil spilling and spillway opening. B. Hurricane damage and industrial pollution. C. Overfishing and climate change. D. Habitat destruction and invasive species. 6. What are the ecological benefits of oyster reefs? A. Producing pearls and serving as a food source. B. Preventing coastal erosion and reducing flood risks. C. Absorbing carbon dioxide and handling climate change. D. Cleaning seawater and providing habitats for marine life. 7. How does Demi Johnson feel about oyster gardening? A. Effortless but influential. B. Challenging yet rewarding. C. Simple yet ineffective. D. Laborious but beneficial. B 5. A 6. D 7. 根据第二段““After learning that oyster reefs and gardens are endangered, I felt inspired to help the environment and give back,” Johnson told WLOX, a news website.(“在得知牡蛎礁和牡蛎养殖场濒临灭绝后,我受到鼓舞,想要帮助改善环境并做出回报,” 约翰逊告诉新闻网站WLOX)” 可知,Demi Johnson对牡蛎礁的担忧促她使开始养殖牡蛎。 根据第三段“Johnson argued that the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill, as well as the 2020 opening of the Bonnet Care Spillway, a flood control project, made the situation more severe.(约翰逊认为,2010 年的“深水地平线”石油泄漏事件,以及 2020 年防洪工程邦尼特凯尔溢洪道的启用,使情况变得更加严峻)”可知,石油泄漏和溢洪道的启用导致了牡蛎数量的减少。故选A。 根据第四段“Through oyster gardening, she learned many things: a single oyster can clean up to 50 gallons of seawater a day, removing algae and harmful organisms. Big groups of oysters form reefs, providing habitat for hundreds of other sea creatures.(通过养殖牡蛎,她学到了很多东西:一只牡蛎每天可以净化多达 50 加仑海水,清除藻类和有害生物。大量的牡蛎形成了牡蛎礁,为数百种其他海洋生物提供了栖息地)”可知,牡蛎礁的生态效益是净化海水和为海洋生物提供栖息地。故选D。 【7题详解】 推理判断题。根据倒数第二段““You don’t have to do a lot to take care of your oyster garden”, she told Times for Kids, “but the impact it has on the environment is great.”(“你不需要做很多事情来照料你的牡蛎养殖场,”她告诉《儿童时代》杂志,“但它对环境的影响是巨大的。”)” A。 C World Sleep Day fell on March 21 this year, and the problem of sleep deprivation (不足) among teenagers has come into focus. Many teenagers feel sleepy during the day because of busy schedules filled with homework, extracurricular activities and the temptation to use electronic devices. A report issued by the Chinese Sleep Research Society on March 16 showed that more than half of young people born after 2000 in China fall asleep after midnight, reported Shanghai Observer. In the US, 77.3 percent of high school students do not get enough sleep, according to USAFacts. Quality sleep is important for people of any age, but especially so for teenagers. They need nine to ten hours of sleep each day to function at their best, said the US National Institutes of Health. This is more than what they need both as children and later as adults because of the deep mental, physical, social and emotional development that takes place during adolescence, said the website Sleep Foundation. For students, sleep plays a key role in school performance by improving attention, memory and thinking skills. It helps sharpen the mind and facilitates (促进) learning. Besides helping with learning, sleep also supports teenagers’ creative abilities. This link was first studied in the late 20th century when researchers at Loughborough University in the UK compared creative performance between sleep-deprived people and those who slept normally. The first group scored lower on the Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking. They often repeated the same mistakes and had trouble coming up with new ideas. More recently, in 2023, a team led by Kathleen Esfahany at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) identified a stage of sleep called “sleep onset”, which provides a special time for creativity. This phase happens when we are between being awake and asleep. The MIT team found that when people are prompted (促使) to dream about a certain topic during sleep onset, they perform more creatively on related tasks after waking up, reported MIT News. 8. All of the following are factors resulting in teenagers’ sleep deprivation EXCEPT . A heavy homework load B. late-night use of smartphones C. early school start time D. participation in after-school sports 9. Haw did sleep-deprived individuals perform based on the Loughborough University study? A. Higher scores but less creative. B. Poorer performance with repeated errors. C. Average results yet innovative. D. Unchanged creativity and declined memory. 10. What did the MIT team discover about the “sleep onset” stage? A. It only occurs in teenagers. B. It provides a chance for creativity. C. It is the deepest stage of sleep. D. It helps people remember dreams better. 11. What is the text mainly about? A. The causes and effects of teenagers’ sleep deprivation. B. The importance of sleep for academic performance. C The link between quality sleep and creativity. D. The sleep patterns and stages of global teenagers. C 9. B 10. B 11. 根据第二段“Many teenagers feel sleepy during the day because of busy schedules filled with homework, extracurricular activities and the temptation to use electronic devices.(许多青少年白天感到困倦,因为他们的日程安排得很满,包括家庭作业、课外活动以及使用电子设备的诱惑)”可知,导致青少年睡眠不足的因素有繁重的作业负担、深夜使用智能手机和参加课外体育活动,没有提及“上学时间早”。 根据第四段“The first group scored lower on the Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking. They often repeated the same mistakes and had trouble coming up with new ideas.(第一组在托兰斯创造性思维测试中的得分较低。他们经常重复同样的错误,很难想出新点子)”可知,根据拉夫堡大学的研究,睡眠不足的人表现更差,且会重复犯错。故选B。 【10题详解】 细节理解题。根据最后一段“a team led by Kathleen Esfahany at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) identified a stage of sleep called “sleep onset”, which provides a special time for creativity.(麻省理工学院(MIT)的凯瑟琳·埃斯法哈尼领导的一个研究小组发现了一个名为“睡眠开始”的睡眠阶段,这个阶段为创造力提供了特殊的时间)”可知,麻省理工学院的团队发现“睡眠开始”阶段为创造力提供了机会。 A。 D AI image generation seems to be everywhere: on TikTok, the popular AI filter (滤镜) shows you what you look like in the cartoon style. There’s no denying that they’re fun. While there’s an initial excitement at seeing an image appear, there’s no creative satisfaction. Children’s illustrators (插画师) were quick to raise concerns about the technology on social media. Among them is illustrator Rob Biddulph. Biddulph says, “AI-generated art is the exact opposite of what I believe art to be. Basically, I have always felt that art is all about translating something that you feel innernally into something that exists externally. True art is about the creative process much more than the final piece. And simply pressing a button to generate an image is not a creative process.” Beyond creativity, there are deeper issues. To create images, AI generators rely on databases of already existing art and text. Illustrator Anoosha Syed says, “AI can only copy. AI doesn’t create its own. It samples everyone’s and then mashes it into something else. This is essentially what AI art is doing.” The blurring (模糊) of creative boundaries is leaving many artists raging against the AI art generators. What’s more, there’s a more underlying danger: the ability to create images that are potentially illegal. The increasing use of AI, says illustrator Dapo Adeola, will also lead to a devaluing of the work of artists. “For me,” he says, “there’s already a negative bias (偏见) towards the creative industry. Something like this strengthens an argument that what we do is easy and we shouldn’t be able to earn the money we command.” The influences of AI image generation are far-reaching and could impact everything from films to graphic novels and more, but artists and illustrators firmly believe their fans won't be convinced by AI art. “Children’s books are highly complex, various forms of communication,” says illustrator Harry Woodgate. “The kids who read them expect a great deal, not only from the stories and illustrations, but from the people who make them.” 12. What is Rob Biddulph’s opinion of AI image generation? A. It can translate something external. B. It showcases a process of creativity. C. It focuses more on the final work. D. It can’t create its works but copy. 13. What does the underlined word “raging” mean in Paragraph 4? A. Angry. B. Confused. C. Serious. D. Excited. 14. Which of the following does Dapo Adeola agree with? A. AI image generation is potentially illegal. B. AI art has a significant effect on creativity. C. Artistic work lacks complexity and challenge. D. The popularity of AI reduces the value of the works. 15. What can be inferred from the last paragraph? A. Artists and kids rarely communicate. B. AI images have no effect on kids’ books. C. Children expect AI images from books. D. Artists doubt if AI images satisfy their fans. C 13. A 14. D 15. 根据第二段中“True art is about the creative process much more than the final piece. And simply pressing a button to generate an image is not a creative process.(真正的艺术更多的是关于创作过程,而不是最终的作品。而简单地按下一个按钮来生成图像并不是一个创作过程)”可知,Rob Biddulph认为AI图像生成只是简单地按下一个按钮来生成图像,它更关注最终的作品而不是创作过程。故选C。 【13题详解】 词句猜测题。根据划线所在句子的前文“Beyond creativity, there are deeper issues. To create images, AI generators rely on databases of already existing art and text. Illustrator Anoosha Syed says, “AI can only copy. AI doesn’t create its own. It samples everyone’s and then mashes it into something else. This is essentially what AI art is doing.”(除了创造力方面的问题,还有更深层次的问题。为了生成图像,人工智能生成器依赖于已有的艺术作品和文本数据库。插画家阿努沙·赛义德说:“人工智能只能复制。人工智能无法自行创作。它采集所有人的(作品元素),然后将它们拼凑成别的东西。这本质上就是人工智能艺术正在做的事情。”)” 以及后文 “What’s more, there’s a more underlying danger: the ability to create images that are potentially illegal.(此外,还有一个更为隐蔽的危险:即人工智能具备生成可能涉及违法的图像的能力)”可知,人工智能图像生成存在诸多问题,所以这种对创作界限的模糊使得很多艺术家对人工智能艺术生成器很生气。 故选A。 根据倒数第二段中“The increasing use of AI, say’s illustrator Dapo Adeola, will also lead to a devaluing of the work of artists.(插画家Dapo Adeola表示,AI的日益使用也将导致艺术家作品的贬值)”可知,Dapo Adeola同意AI的流行降低了作品的价值。 根据最后一段“The influences of AI image generation are far-reaching and could impact everything from films to graphic novels and more, but artists and illustrators firmly believe their fans won’t be convinced by AI art. “Children’s books are highly complex, various forms of communication,” says illustrator Harry Woodgate. “The kids who read them expect a great deal, not only from the stories and illustrations, but from the people who make them.”(AI图像生成的影响是深远的,可能会影响从电影到图像小说等方方面面,但艺术家和插画家坚信他们的粉丝不会被AI艺术所说服。插画家Harry Woodgate说:“儿童读物是非常复杂的,是各种交流形式的结合。读这些书的孩子期望很高,不仅对故事和插图,而且对创作这些书的人也是如此。”)”可推知,艺术家们怀疑AI图像是否能满足他们的粉丝。故选D。 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Throughout my experience as an early childhood teacher, I noticed very quickly that some children are highly competitive, eager to win, while others are concerned about losing. The competitive children often have a harder time dealing with strong emotions when they face defeat. It's clear that no one enjoys losing. ____16____. ●Approach disappointment from losing. Although feeling disappointed is completely normal ____17____. Children react differently — some may be ready to jump back to play, while others might need a hug, time, music, or a book to help them calm down. It's important to remind your children that there are various ways to process disappointment. ●____18____. Teach your children that even in moments of upset or disappointment, they can demonstrate good sportsmanship by congratulating the winners. Discuss the emotions of those who didn't win, encouraging your children to consider how they might be feeling and if they've experienced something similar before. Recognizing others' feelings can often help children cope with their own emotions. ●Talk about luck and chance. Certain games take more on luck than skills. Talk with children about luck and chance and help them understand that sometimes they draw cards that lead to victory, while other times they do not. ____19____. ●Focus on effort. Don't make winning or losing too big of a deal. Praise children for the effort and hard work they have put in when they are preparing for a competition. ____20____. After the competition, continue to focus on the hard work put in, regardless of the outcome. A. Practice good sportsmanship B. Emphasize the value of effort C. Talk about their emotions and feelings D. there are different ways to express that disappointment E. This is not their fault and does not reflect who they are F. But we can help our children learn to win and lose gracefully G. you can accept it and cope with negative emotions in different ways 【答案】16. F 17. D 18. A 19. E 20. 【16题详解】 上文“Throughout my experience as an early childhood teacher, I noticed very quickly that some children are highly competitive, eager to win, while others are concerned about losing. The competitive children often have a harder time dealing with strong emotions when they face defeat. It’s clear that no one enjoys losing.(在我担任幼儿教师的经历中,我很快就注意到,有些孩子极具竞争意识,渴望获胜,而另一些孩子则害怕失败。那些好胜心强的孩子在面对失败时,往往更难以应对强烈的情绪。很明显,没有人喜欢输 )”说明作者作为幼儿教师发现孩子们面对输赢有不同表现,且没人喜欢输。空处和前文为转折关系,引出下文帮助孩子面对输赢的方法。所以F 项“但我们可以帮助我们的孩子学会优雅地赢和输” 符合语境,该项中的“learn to win and lose gracefully”和上文中的“have a harder time dealing with strong emotions when they face defeat.” 故选F。 【17题详解】 上文“Although feeling disappointed is completely normal,(虽然感到失望是完全正常的)”说明感到失望是正常的,下文“Children react differently — some may be ready to jump back to play, while others might need a hug, time, music, or a book to help them calm down.(孩子们的反应各不相同——有些孩子可能已经准备好重新开始玩了,而另一些孩子可能需要一个拥抱、时间、音乐或一本书来帮助他们平静下来)”说明孩子们有不同的表达失望的方式,空处承上启下,说明虽然失望是正常的,但有不同的表达失望的方式。 【18题详解】 下文“Teach your children that even in moments of upset or disappointment, they can demonstrate good sportsmanship by congratulating the winners.(教导你的孩子,即使在沮丧或失望的时刻,他们也可以通过祝贺获胜者来表现出良好的体育精神)”可知,本段主要讲述了要教导孩子有良好的体育精神。 故选A。 【19题详解】 上文“Talk with children about luck and chance and help them understand that sometimes they draw cards that lead to victory, while other times they do not.(和孩子们谈谈运气和机会,帮助他们理解有时他们会抽到导致胜利的牌,而其他时候则不会)”说明有时胜利,有时失败。 【20题详解】 上文“Praise children for the effort and hard work they have put in when they are preparing for a competition.(当孩子们为比赛做准备时,表扬他们付出的努力和辛勤工作)”说明要表扬孩子们付出的努力,下文“After the competition, continue to focus on the hard work put in, regardless of the outcome.(比赛结束后,继续关注所付出的努力,不管结果如何)”说明比赛结束后也要关注所付出的努力,空处承上启下,说明要强调努力的价值。 Catherine and Gemma King must never have felt so separated. In this Saturday’s race, one twin Catherine, is rowing for Oxford, while the other, Gemma, is in the Cambridge boat. Being a twin is a fascinating relationship. “We’ve often been ____21____,” Catherine says. “And that means we’re always ____22____ each other to do better. We live with sisterly competition — but at the same time we get on really well.” Gemma adds, “We’re best friends and we ____23____ each other.” On Saturday, that will be put aside. The twins aren’t actually in the same race, which may disappoint them but also offer some ____24____. The twins, who are now 24, grew up as two ____25____ sisters. They had an introductory session on the ____26____ when they were 12. “And we got ____27____.” Catherine says. In their school years they rowed in the same group and, ____28____, as a pair. After school they both went to Cambridge, where ____29____ they carried on rowing. And now they’re both studying for _____30_____ degree, only at different universities. After _____31_____ her undergraduate degree at Cambridge, Catherine went to Oxford for a four-year PhD in cardiovascular science. Gemma, meanwhile, stayed at Cambridge to study stem cell biology. “Rowing is a _____32_____ from academic life,” Catherine says. Both agree that part of the fascination of rowing is how a team _____33_____ as a group of individuals and gradually transforms into a united one. Students whispered it as she walked through the halls. Some pointed fingers, while others wrote notes in class. The rumor falsely claimed that Grace gets good grades because she cheats on her exams.” This was entirely untrue. Grace dedicated herself to her studies, spending countless hours after school reviewing her notes and preparing for tests. She truly cared about her education and even missed a few friends’ birthday parties to hit the books. Grace always actively participated in class discussions, ensured her homework was completed on time, and never missed a lesson, even when exhaustion set in from her efforts. Her commitment to her studies was a source of pride for her, so the rumor felt especially hurtful. Despite trying to be kind and supportive to everyone around her, she couldn't understand why this was happening. One day in science class, the students were divided into groups for a lab experiment, and Grace was paired with Joe, someone she wasn’t enthusiastic about working with. Joe had been unkind to her ever as Grace had missed her birthday party to study. Grace suspected that Joe might have even been the one who started the rumor about her cheating. Still, Grace decided to put her feelings aside for the sake of the project. She thought about how important it was for their teamwork to succeed. As they began the experiment, she focused on cooperation, though the tension between them was obvious. Grace hoped that if she remained dedicated to the task, perhaps she could show Joe that hard work and honesty truly mattered. But Joe said all Grace cared about was being the best, and that was why she cheated. She couldn’t understand why Joe was being so unfair. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ They continued working on the experiment, and slowly, a sense of cooperation began to develop. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 She couldn’t understand why Joe was being so unfair. Tears welled up in her eyes as she tried to hold back her emotions. “Joe, you’re wrong,” she said, her voice trembling. “I’ve always studied hard, and I would never cheat. Remember when I missed your birthday party? I was actually reviewing for an important exam.” Grace then showed Joe her thick notebooks filled with detailed study notes. Joe stared at the notes in silence, his face turning red with embarrassment. They continued working on the experiment, and slowly, a sense of cooperation began to develop. Joe apologized sincerely for believing the rumor and for his unkind words. “I’m really sorry, Grace. I should have known better,” he said. Grace forgave him with a smile. As they worked side by side, they discovered that they complemented each other well. By the end of the experiment, they had not only completed a successful project but also rebuilt their friendship. Joe even promised to help Grace clear her name at school. 词汇激活 行为类 ①努力学习:study hard/work diligently on studies/put effort into learning ②道歉:apologize/say sorry/make an apology ③重建友谊:rebuild their friendship/mend their relationship/restore their bond 情绪类 ①真诚地:sincerely/genuinely ②不友善的:unkind/unfriendly 【点睛】【高分句型1】Tears welled up in her eyes as she tried to hold back her emotions.(运用了as引导的时间状语从句) 【高分句型2】As they worked side by side, they discovered that they complemented each other well.(运用了as引导的时间状语从句以及that引导的宾语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 参照秘密级管理★启用前 试卷类型:A 2024~2025学年度高一年级第二学期期中质量检测 英语试题 2025.4 注意事项: 1. 1. A Producing pearls and serving as a food source. B. Preventing coastal erosion and reducing flood risks. C. Absorbing carbon dioxide and handling climate change. D. Cleaning seawater and providing habitats for marine life. 7. How does Demi Johnson feel about oyster gardening? A. Effortless but influential. B. Challenging yet rewarding. C. Simple yet ineffective. D. Laborious but beneficial. C World Sleep Day fell on March 21 this year, and the problem of sleep deprivation (不足) among teenagers has come into focus. A. heavy homework load B. late-night use of smartphones C. early school start time D. participation in after-school sports 9. C. The link between quality sleep and creativity. D. The sleep patterns and stages of global teenagers. D AI image generation seems to be everywhere: on TikTok, the popular AI filter (滤镜) shows you what you look like in the cartoon style. D. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
