Are children smarter than adults? The answer is “yes” when it comes to learning new things. A new study shows that kids can pick up new knowledge and skills faster than adults.
The study was carried out by scientists from the USA and Germany. In the study, some kids and adults learned the same lessons of new information and skills. The children were eight to eleven years old. And the adults were eighteen to thirty-five years old. The scientists observed (观察) their GABA levels before, during, and after these lessons. GABA is a chemical that our brains produce. It helps us remember the newly learned information.
According to the study, the GABA levels in the children’s brains increased quickly during the lessons. This increase lasted for several minutes after the lessons were over. As for the adults, however, there was no change in their GABA levels during or after the lessons.
The scientists then tested the effects of their learning. The results showed that the children learned more efficiently. They learned more items in the same amount of time than the adults.
This study encourages people to give children more chances to learn new skills. It could also be used to help adults learn faster. “We might develop a new technology, for example, to increase the amount of GABA in adults’ brains,” said one of the scientists.

A. giving an opinion B. describing a picture
C. asking a question D. telling a story

A. they can learn more things than adults
B. the GABA levels in adults’ brains are very high

A Children have more chances to learn new skills.
