Using filters (滤镜) is common among young people on social media. Filters can make people look more beautiful and even add funny effects (效果). However, TikTok is making some changes.
In November 2024, TikTok said that users under 18 won’t be able to use beauty filters that change their features ways makeup can’t. But don’t worry funny filters like animal ears will still be allowed.
Beauty filters can hurt people’s mental health, according to the BBC. A UK-based group called 5Rights found that 34 percent of girls aged 11 to 21 won’t post a photo unless they edit (编辑) how they look. Another report from Dove, a beauty brand, found that 48 percent of girls who often edit their photos feel worse about their bodies.
Seeing these edited looks all the time can make it hard for young people to tell what’s real. They might start to think that perfect, edited images are normal, which can change how they see the world.
The ban (禁令) only works if users have accounts (账号) with their real ages. However, not everyone under 18 has given TikTok their real age. To help with this, TikTok is testing smart technology to look at things like “happy birthday” messages to guess ages.
Other steps taken to protect youths online:
Australia: The country has decided that kids under 16 shouldn’t use social media. They want young people to spend more time outdoors and enjoy the real world.
Meta: The social media company has introduced “teen accounts” on Instagram. These accounts allow parents to control their children’s online activities. For example, parents can set limits (限制) on app usage during nighttime hours.
China: In 2019, China made new rules for tech companies to create a “youth mode (青少年模式)” for online games and media. It limits how much time kids can spend online and only shows things that are right for their age.
26. What change did TikTok make in November 2024?
A. It stopped children from using the app. B. It stopped the use of filters on the app.
C. It updated its collection of funny filters. D. It banned beauty filters for users under 18.
27. Why did TikTok make the change?
A. To keep young people away from screens. B. To make more girls interested in the app.
C. To improve young people’s mental health. D. To help beauty brands sell more make-up.
28. Where does the passage probably come from?
A. Sports World. B. Food Safety.
C. Mental Health. D. Travel Brochure.

①Have you heard of mourning (悼念) technology?
②Last night is really unusual for me. I couldn’t imagine I could speak to my parents. And for a moment I even forgot I wasn’t really speaking to real them, just their virtual images (虚拟形象). In fact, both of my parents are still alive and well. But the virtual images could help me understand the technology, which is an APP created by a company called Here After AI.
③Mourning technology can let you communicate with the people you have loved but lost. This used to appear in science fiction. But now it has come into our real life. Maybe it sounds some scary, but it’s not difficult to see that more and more people might turn to the virtual images for comfort.
④However, there is still something imperfect. These virtual images are just facades (表象), but in fact they don’t know anything about you. Anyone who talks to them can get almost the same answer. The biggest problem with the technology is that you can’t create a person who is only right for you.
⑤A virtual image that can hold more conversations with you helps make you feel connected to the person you loved but lost. But a sad person needs to know that only a small part of a person can be captured (捕捉) by these images instead of replacing healthy, normal human relationships.
⑥At the same time this also brings other risks when creating a virtual image, such as moral (道德) problems. Some may think that it’s less important to a person who is already dead. But what if the person isn’t actually dead? Should he or she have a say, too?
⑦If virtual images really come fully into our lives, there’s no doubt that we need new rules about what we leave online. But if we deal with the possibility of misusing virtual images before, rather than after, they are widely used, our lives will be better.
⑧Luckily, I still have the valuable chance to spend more time with my father and mother, face to face, without technology.
33. What does the write think of mourning technology?
A. He thinks it has become a perfect technology.
B. He doesn’t think it should be used in our life.
C. He thinks it can meet the needs of some people.
D. He can use it to communicate with his parents better.
34. According to the last two paragraphs, what does the writer get from his experience?
A. Mourning technology won’t be used widely.
B. Value the ones we love when they are still alive.
C. The progress of technology is faster than imagined.
D. We can keep mourning technology safe by making new rules.
35. Which of the following is not mentioned in this passage?
A. More and more people show interest in the technology.
B. Mourning technology can’t reflect everything about a person.
C. The living may not allow us to use mourning technology on them.
D. Mourning technology may be harmful to the interests of the living.
36. Which of the following shows the structure of this passage?
A. B. C. D.

Should he or she have a say, too?”
故选A。
