Proper questioning has become a lost art.The curious four-year-old asks a lot of questions-incessant streams
of"Why?"and "Why not?"might sound familiar-but as we grow older,our questioning decreases.In a recent
survey of more than 200 of our clients,we found that those with children estimated that 70-80%of their kids'
dialogues with others were comprised of questions. But those same clients said that only 15-25%of their own
interactions consisted of questions. Why the drop off?
Think back to your time growing up and in school.Chances are that you received the most recognition or
reward when you got the correct answers.Later in life, that motivator continues. At work,we often reward those who
answer questions, not those who ask them.Questioning conventional wisdom can even lead to being distanced,or
considered a threat.
Because expectations for decision-making have gone from"get it done soon"to "get it done now"to "it should
have been done yesterday",we tend to jump to conclusions instead of asking more questions. And the unfortunate
side effect of not asking enough questions is poor decision-making.That's why it's vital that we slow down and take
the time to ask more and better questions. At best,we'll arrive at better conclusions. At worst,we'll avoid a lot of
rework later on.
Aside from not speaking up enough, many professionals don't think about how different types of questions can
lead to different outcomes. We should lead a conversation by asking the right kinds of questions, based on the
problem we're trying to solve. In some cases,we'll want to expand our view of the problem rather than keeping it
narrowly focused. In others,we may want to challenge basic assumptions or confirm our understanding in order to
feel more confident in our conclusions. Therefore, asking the right kinds of questions is what counts in achieving a
goal.
28.What does the underlined word "incessant"in paragraph 1 most probably mean?
A.Simple.
B.Random.
C.Constant.
D.Annoying.
29.What is the reason for the decrease of questioning in adulthood?
A.One poses a threat to the company if they ask questions.
B.Adults don't get as many chances as they did in childhood.
C.Those who question popular beliefs are thought to be wise.
D.Those asking questions don't always get positive feedback.
30.What can we infer from paragraph 3?
A.Redoing is unavoidable despite thoughtful questions.
B.Decisions made in a hurry may turn out to be wrong.
C.Better questions can surely bring desirable outcomes.
D.More attention should be paid to making conclusions.
31.What might the author continue talking about?
A.Proper questions that should be raised.
B.Important goals that we are to achieve.
C.Right kinds of answers to the questions.
D.Ways to expand our view of the problem.

When we think about what makes humans different from other animals, the word "conscience"often appears.
Conscience is the feeling you get when you assess if you've done something "correct"or"wrong".It is with the help
of our conscience that we understand the moral principles we hold, his motivates us to act on them and therefore
helps us assess our character and behavior.Eventually,it helps us judge ourselves against those principles,in terms
of how well we follow them.Accordingly, you avoid certain desires(i.e.,eating in class)and follow the behavior
that is considered correct or"right"(paying attention to what the teacher is teaching).
Consciousness,on the other hand, reflects how aware you are of your surroundings.A good way to understand
this is to think of the human mind as an iceberg,as proposed by Freud's psychoanabytic theory. The part of the
iceberg on the surface represents your conscious awareness. It refers to all the things you are aware of and can easily
describe. For instance.right now, while reading this article, your conscious mind is helping you make connections.
The deeper level of the iceberg is your unconscious mind.It refers to aspects that you are unaware of,including your
fears, violent motives, and strong desires that are hard to describe.
Many researchers, like Freud, propose that morality or conscience develops when a child internalizes (
the rules that their parents set when the child was growing up.However, some psychologists, like Paul Bloom, argue
that morality is something we are all born with.Bloom argues that all babies are bom with a sense of fairness. The
claim came from studies of adopted children with genes, who were twins and separated at birth. If they possessed the
"gene"to be kind, they would continue to be kind, despite being brought up in different family environments.
So,which opinion is true?We truly don't know. While there is more evidence in the studies claiming that
conscience is developed through learning and socialization, the newer ideas of it being genetically acquired from
birth look promising as well!
32.What is a function of conscience?
A.It motiva:es us to act quickly.
It keeps record of our behavior.
C.It assesses our moral principles.
D.It helns us tell right from wrong.
33.In which situation does your unconscious mind work?
You apply what you learn to practice.
B.You appreciate the beauty of poetry.
C.You have a fear of public speaking.
D.You describe violent s:enes in a book.
34.What may Freud agree with?
A.Genes affect kids'consciousness.
B.Kids acquire conscience with age.
C.Geuetic studies promote his theory.
Parents should set strict rules for kids.
35.What may be a suitable title for the text?
A.New theory uncovers the secret of our mind.
B What helps tell human being from animals?
C.Is conscience gained at birth or with age?
D.Curscfousness improves om meral.lev

to end my chat sessions, and unable to concentrate on my lessons. I was desperate for just anothe

Then one day, my father took away my laptop. I cried and objected but in vain. Dad had made
up his mind. Over time, I realized that Dad and Mum had always wanted the best for me. That was

M:OK, I see.
W: The second button is the Microphone, which is on the right side of the watch. It picks up sound
or voice if you are sending it to other people
M: Well, is there anything that helps me to measure my heart rate?
W: Sure, sir. Here is the Heart Rate Sensor on the back of the smart watch. Another feature is the
touch screen on which you can touch to enable any function. And with the Back button, you can
press it if you want to return to the previous screen.

W: Oh hi George, how's it going?
M: Hi Martina, it's going well. How about you? How's university life?
W: Well it's great, apart from the studying of course
M: So, what are you studying? I seem to remember that you were going to do art. That was your
best subject. wasn't it?
W: No, not really. I just liked the teacher. He was French and had an amazing accent. My favorite
subject was history but I couldn't see what job that would give me.
M: Ah, right. So what did you choose?
W: Well, I found it really difficult to decide. I was really good at science but I must admit I neve
really enjoyed studying it. So, in the end I decided to choose English which was my second favorite
subject and I thought it would be more useful to me than studying anything else. So that's what I'm
doing.

W: Good afternoon and welcome to Stanton University. I'm here to tell you about the various dorms
we have. We aim to offer accommodation to all first-year students: First of all. there's Brown Hall
which is not the most modern of buildings, but it is very popular. Unlike the other halls, it has
recently had a gym built in its basement. Another option is Blake Residence, built like a large house
Everybody cooks and eats together. It has a private garden and is even more peaceful because this is
an all-girl's residence but boys can visit it. The largest one we have is Oueen's Building and this has
been upgraded recently. The original parking area has been built on and each bedroom now has its
own shower room. A further option is the Parkway Flats with a preservation order. This has meant
that only a limited amount could be done to upgrade it. and the surrounding area is important. Sc
parking is not permitted around the flats. However, the flats do have many extra facilities such as a
special computer room, a smallibrary and a self-service restaurant. The cost of meals is covered in
the fees so it does look a bit more expensive
