This is a story about an act of kindness that I did, which in turn changed my life in a way.
I used to teach in a university with a master's degree. In my country, it was better to have a PhD for career advancement, and my qualifications needed to be improved. So I telephoned Professor Smith for help. I had heard that he was a good doctoral supervisor in the university, but I hadn't met him. I tried to call him once, but to my disappointment, he said he was a little busy at that time and that he would contact me later.
One day, I was driving home from the university when I saw an accident at the side of the road. The two cars collided (碰撞), but fortunately the drivers were not injured. They argued with each other about the accident and became annoyed. Then I stopped my car to see if they might need my help.
"Calm down, gentlemen. What's the matter?" I approached them and said.
"It's just a minor scratch (划痕). There were some disagreements when we tried to work things out privately. I think he is asking for a little too much," one driver said to me. I learned that he didn't have enough money on hand to pay for the damage. Understanding the situation, I offered to help. I paid the amount needed to settle the matter.
A troublesome matter turned into a peaceful resolution with my involvement. When the driver offered to exchange our business cards, I agreed. "It was so kind of you to reach out. I'll repay your money tomorrow," he said. "Forget it. It's just a small thing," I responded. Finally, we said goodbye to each other. However, I didn't expect my kind behavior would really bring me good luck.
When I went back home, I happened to see the driver's business card. I was surprised to find that the driver I had helped was Professor Smith who I wanted to turn to for help. I confidently decided to call him again the next day to make an appointment.

When the sun rose one summer morning, Mark, a high school student, was riding his bike on the way to school as usual. He admired the attractive sights along the road with colorful flowers on both sides, and fresh air full of pleasant smell. It seemed to be a great day.
Mark was passing a park when he noticed an elderly woman walking about 100 meters ahead slowly falling down onto the ground. He felt his heart standing still with great concern. With nobody else around to turn to for help, Mark decided to ride over to see what was wrong with her for himself.
As he approached the old lady, he found her lying on the ground and looking pale and weak. Judging from her untidy clothes and messy hair, she might have been out for more than one day.
"Are you all right, Granny?" Shaking her arm, Mark asked anxiously. The old lady opened her eyes, a confused and lost expression on her face. She hesitated and then took a closer look. Immediately a big smile appeared on her face. Grasping Mark's hand, she said with shining eyes, "John, there you are at last! My son, I'm hungry... hungry... Give me food..." She repeated, patting herself on the stomach.
Not knowing what to do, Mark anxiously asked her, "Granny, where is your home? Can you tell me who your son is?" But the old lady didn't respond, only mumbling (嘟囔), "I'm hungry. Give me food, John." Obviously, she mistook Mark for her son.
All of a sudden, Mark realized the old lady might be a patient with Alzheimer's (痴呆症)disease because his own late grandpa used to suffer from such a condition. "She might have gone out without being noticed by her family. They must have been worried about her. Maybe they're searching like crazy for her everywhere." Mark thought to himself, "But she is so starved. I must give her some food before I get in touch with her family."

Last summer, Chen, a senior high school student, decided to give a surprise to his parents. He knew how hard they worked every day and wanted to help them by taking on some housework.
Chen wanted to try cooking for his parents. He chose a few special dishes that he knew his parents loved. His younger brother eagerly offered to help, and Chen agreed, keeping their plan a secret from their parents.
Chen and his brother started early. They went to the market to buy ingredients: vegetables, spices, and all the necessary items for their chosen dishes. When they returned home, they began to prepare the meal.
Chen and his brother were busy in the kitchen. They washed vegetables and meat, and prepared other ingredients with great care. They laughed and joked as they worked, enjoying the time spent together. Chen took the lead in mixing the sauces and controlling the heat while cooking, ensuring that everything was cooked well.
As the smell of the cooking filled the kitchen, Chen's brother couldn't contain his excitement. "This is going to be amazing! Mom and Dad will be so surprised," he said with a happy smile. Chen smiled, feeling a sense of accomplishment and expectation.
Finally, after hours of hard work, the dishes were ready. The kitchen was filled with a delightful smell. Chen and his brother carefully plated the dishes, making sure everything looked nice. They added a heartfelt thank-you card to the table, expressing their gratitude for their parents' hard work and love.
When their parents arrived home and walked into the dining room, they were greeted by the sight of a beautifully set table and the food. Chen's parents were surprised.
Chen and his brother smiled. "We wanted to thank you for everything you do for us," Chen explained. "So we made dinner for you."

One of the treasures from my classroom is a little wooden apple painted with the saying "To teach is to touch a life forever."
Throughout my career, I often thought a great deal about the idea of touching lives and making a difference. I always measured my success by hugs and smiles from my students, not by data and test scores.
I can clearly remember how I became a teacher. I had once been a high school dropout. In order to find a secretarial job to make a living, I attended a typing training course, where I came across my life coach, Mr Martin. He told me that both a degree and ability were important in the journey of life, and encouraged me to apply for college admission.
With Mr. Martin's help and inspiration, I went back to high school and then entered a local college. College life proved challenging but rewarding. I earned a master's degree in English Education, and set out on my own career as an English teacher.
Being a teacher, I had the privilege of working with diverse students, each with unique strengths. One student, Eddie, stood out. Eddie was bright and loved stories but disliked English. During my lessons, he would sit quietly in his seat, frustrated. Determined to help Eddie, I tried a different approach. Knowing his love for stories, I incorporated (使并入)storytelling into English lessons. Then I found that his eyes lit up, and then he became an active participant. Gradually, his attitude towards English changed. Eddie's transformation reminded me why I became a teacher. It wasn't about test scores. It was about making a difference.
I taught many students, but I didn't forget Mr. Martin's teaching. One day, I dropped by his office without an appointment. "You probably don't remember me," I said, "but I came here five years ago. I just want to thank you for your help." "Of course, I remember you," he said. "I remember your face and your story. How have you been doing?" I told him that I was teaching English and that I owed all of my success to him. He was proud of me.

At an early age, Bob was repeatedly told by his mother Markita, "Believe in yourself no matter what happens." When Bob was 12, his mother traveled with him in a car. Slowly night fell. Bob was asleep in the front seat of the car. As Markita drove carefully down the winding dirt road, she turned onto a narrow bridge. As she did, the car hit a rock and ran off the road, and the right front wheel got stuck. Fearing the car would tip over, she attempted to drive it back onto the road by pressing hard on the gas pedal (油门) and turning the steering wheel (方向盘) to the left. But Bob's foot got caught between his mother's leg and the steering wheel and she lost control of the car.
The car rolled over and hit a deep valley. Bob could hardly get his breath back. "What happened, Mama?" he asked. "Our wheels are pointing toward the sky."
Markita was blinded by blood. She was too painful to move and cry for help. "I'll get you out, Mama," said Bob, who had luckily escaped injury. He managed to get out of the car through the open window and tried to pull his mother out. But she couldn't move. "Just let me sleep," replied Markita, who seemed to be out of consciousness (意识). "No, Mama," Bob continued. "You can't sleep."
Bob reached her mother and tried to pull her out of the car, but failed. He then told her he'd climb up to the road and stop a car to get help. Fearing that no one would be able to see her little boy in the dark, Markita refused to let him go alone. Instead, Markita did her best to open the door. She moved inches at a time. The pain was so great that Markita wanted to give up, but Bob wouldn't let her.

Recently, I volunteered with Interact, my school's service group at Read 2 Me, an activity that gives volunteers the opportunity to read to little kids and interact with them.
I walked with other volunteers into a large room in which there was a large variety of books. Some were picture books, such as Cifford or The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Others were chapter books with pictures in them, such as the Berenstain Bears and The Wimpy Kid series. For the extremely talented kids who like to be challenged, we provided chapter books that required imagination to understand. Just after I had gathered some books together, someone announced that it was almost time for the activity to start. All at once, a burst of voices was heard. The doors opened, and the children rushed in, beginning to look for a reading buddy(伙伴). They all looked so eager to read, just like mice eager to taste a piece of cheese. I was sitting there waiting and glancing at the books that I had picked out for the lucky kid I would read them to.
Just then, a boy about six years old began to come my way, and I knew that I had found my reading buddy. "Hi, I'm Max. Would you like to be my reading buddy?" "Sure," I responded. And then, I let him search for a book of his choice.
"I like this one," shouted Max. I looked at the book that he had chosen. It told an adventure story of a little girl with her dog, and it seemed that it would be a good one to read to him.

Jason had a reputation as the messiest kid at Greenwood High School. His room was like a junkyard, with clothes tossed everywhere, empty chip bags on the floor, and half-finished sodas scattered across his desk. His mom, Susan, had stopped nagging (唠叨) him to clean up, hoping he himself would eventually get the hint. But instead, the mess just got worse.
Greenwood High School was famous for its creative projects, so when the headmaster Mr. Thompson declared a new "Labor Education" project, no one was too surprised. The idea was simple: teach students about hard work through real tasks. Jason wasn't excited—he would rather play video games all day—but the project was a must; he had no choice.
Finally, the day of the project came. It was gray and overcast, matching Jason's mood as he dragged himself into the school's lecture hall with his classmates, yawning and complaining. Mr. Thompson stood on stage with a speaker. "Today, we're going to learn the importance of labor!" he exclaimed. Jason rolled his eyes when he was assigned to the gardening group with his best friend, Mike. Their job was to clear out the school's overgrown front lawn and plant new flowers. They shared a look that said it all—this was going to be a long day.
As they started weeding, Jason quickly discovered how hard physical labor could be. The weeds were stubborn, and the leaves seemed to multiply every time he raked (耙) them. His back ached, his arms felt like jelly, and his hands blistered. While stretching, eager to sneak in a break, he spotted Mr. Thompson standing afar with a big smile from across the yard, giving him a big thumbs-up.
After lunch, the group moved to build simple things like birdhouses for the garden in the school's maintenance house. Jason had two left hands at first—his hammering was a mess— but he slowly got better. By the end of the session, he managed to make a crooked but decent-looking birdhouse. Carrying his newly-made birdhouse around, Jason proudly showed it off to his classmates.

That year, I was 16 years old and my father had just passed away in that cold late autumn. There were no Thanksgiving celebrating plans in my family that year. To make ends meet, my mother worked two jobs as a cleaning lady, and I had a part-time job in the downtown. It was the Thanksgiving night and it was raining and blowing. The shops were closed and the streets were decorated with the colorful lamps for the grant festival. My shift at work was over and I waited for the bus alone in the station.
The wind blew my thin coat and threatened to tear my worn-out hand-knit hat that my mother had knitted for me years ago. Wearing a pair of discolored pants, I shivered against the cold wind, deep in thought about how my father's death led to my family heart broken and how my mother and I struggled to work to support our family.
A bus approached as I thought these things. Fortunately, a seat on the bus was unoccupied and I took it with delight, placing my feet on the perfect spot close to the heater. I cherished the small comfort of the warmth as it seeped (渗透) through the bottom of my wet feet.
Then a gentleman, perhaps in his 60s, appeared from somewhere in the back of the bus. He wore a hat and a fine woolen scarf. Then he stopped and sat down next to me, placing a shopping bag between us. Through the transparent shopping bag under my nose, I vaguely saw a box with chocolate printed on it, a box with a music box printed on it, and a clothing-type thing. These must be the gifts for a certain girl and I also wished to get such gifts. When he noticed my stare, I looked away immediately and curled up to keep warm, or rather, to hide my embarrassment.

Niesha could not forget the way she froze in front of the class today. Mr. Roberts had divided the class into groups to do presentations. Today was Niesha's turn. However, her hands shook so violently that she couldn't read her notes. Her voice became softer even to silence. Mr. Roberts kindly ended Niesha's part of the presentation even though she did clearly not finish. He also asked Niesha to stay after class for a moment.
"Niesha, I know you're shy, but you worked hard on this project. I'd hate to see you give up on yourself." Then Mr. Roberts hesitated, "If I give you another chance until tomorrow, do you think you can find your courage?" Niesha nodded, grateful for the chance. She went as quickly as she could to her next class. She kept her head down and hoped the school day would end soon.
When she reached her back steps that afternoon, she could see an inviting light coming from the kitchen windows. Momma was baking. Momma studied Niesha's face as she came into the kitchen. "What's wrong, Niesha?"
Tears shone in Niesha's brown eyes. She told her the whole story. Momma was silent for a moment, her hands still busy with the cake. "Why is it that you can talk to me about anything and everything, but you can't talk to your class?" Momma asked. She set the timer (计时器) and then said, "Let me show you something."
Niesha followed Momma to her bedroom. There Momma showed her a book filled with newspaper clippings (剪报) and pictures. In it there was a blue ribbon (丝带) that said "First Place" and a picture of herself when she was very young, standing with her parents.
"I won it for public speaking. I started the school year as the shyest girl on the speech team, but I ended the year as the blue ribbon winner. It wasn't easy at first-- I was not sure of myself at all. I worked hard, and mostly I faced my fears. You just need to find your courage."

10.阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
A couple of years ago, I had the pleasure of teaching a young couple to dive (潜水) in Thailand on one of my favorite reefs (礁). The weather conditions were perfect, with mild currents and excellent sight of the beautiful ocean and the bright, vivid corals. Even with their masks on, I could see the smiles on my students' faces.
The dive couldn't have gone better. However, things changed as we made our way back to the boat. As we swam back along the reef, I noticed the current (水流) changing. As it did, huge quantities of trash and plastic began to flood the area. I saw small reef fish swimming amongst the straws, plastic bags and other bits of rubbish. I noticed that some of the fish were pecking away (啄) at the plastic. By the time we got back onboard the boat, there were bits of plastic floating all around us. It looked more like a trash site than the ocean.
When I got home, the first thing I did was to go online and research plastic pollution in the ocean. I was surprised to find out that over the past decade, divers and beach lovers have seen a lot of changes in the oceans. Even very remote locations were suddenly filled with plastic and other chemicals. Plastics were entering our oceans at an alarming rate—up to 12 million tons each year. This huge amount of plastic was wreaking havoc (破坏) not only on the environment, but also on the marine animals that lived in the ocean, such as sea turtles and sea birds. Some of them were sadly mistaking the pieces of plastic for food. Pollution has brought our oceans to the point of disaster, and unless we make a great change, then our oceans and all of its living things, will be at risk.
Since that unforgettable plastic-polluted dive, I have become an ocean supporter and spend my days trying to get the message out there about just how harmful ocean pollution is, not only to marine life, but also to mankind.

Sarah, a high school student, had a great passion for baking. With her parents' support, Sarah dreamed of opening her own bakery, a place where she could turn her interest into a business. However, she knew the importance of improving her skills and gaining real-world experience.
Therefore, every Saturday, without fail, she would set up a small but charming table at a local park. The park, filled with families and laughter, was the perfect place for Sarah to sell her creations. Her table, neatly laid out with colorful homemade cookies and cakes, attracted passers-by with the desserts' smell.
On a particularly bright and sunny afternoon, as Sarah was carefully arranging her chocolate cookies and cakes, her attention was drawn to an elderly woman sitting alone on a bench. The woman, with her silver hair and sad eyes, seemed lost in thought. As the hours went by, Sarah noticed that the woman remained where she was, seemingly forgotten by the world. A sense of concern washed over Sarah. So she decided to act. She poured a cup of warm tea carefully and cut a generous slice of her rich chocolate cake, a crowd favorite, and approached the woman.
"I thought you might like some snacks," Sarah said with a warm, inviting smile. The woman's face lit up as she accepted the treat. "Thank you, dear. I haven't had such a delicious treat since my retirement," she responded, her voice soft yet filled with gratitude. As she enjoyed the cake, tears rolled down her face.
A little shocked, Sarah asked what had happened. The woman introduced herself as Mrs. Wilson, who had been a baker before she retired. Since losing her husband to cancer a week ago, she had been living alone. Her visits to the park were her escape from the loneliness that filled her quiet home. Sarah listened attentively, her heart touched by the woman's story.

"Not again!" Aliya shouted angrily, looking at the marks she had attained in her maths test.
It seemed as if failing in the math test had become a part and parcel of her life. Despite her efforts, she had been unable to perform well. Tears in her eyes, she quickly shoved (乱塞) the paper into her bag before any classmate could make a rude comment on her.
Effortlessly, using the back of her palm, she was wiping the tears when her teacher Mrs Leena noticed her. She came to Aliya's desk and, in a soft voice, asked her to see her during the break time.
Wondering what it could be, Aliya waited impatiently for lunchtime. Finally, when the bell rang, she made her way to Mrs Leena. As soon as she saw Aliya, she gestured for her to sit on the empty chair beside her.
She carefully studied her face, cleared her throat with a bright smile and said, "You seem to be anxious. I think I know what's bothering you. If you allow me I think together we may come up with a good solution."
With a puzzled look, she said, "Well ma'am, you know I have been struggling in maths since the beginning of the term. It seems as if no matter how hard I work, I am unable to get the desired result. I feel so upset," she said sadly.
"You need not be so gloomy," encouraged Mrs Leena. "With these three key ingredients: hard work, determination and resilience (韧性), you will move ahead and succeed. It's always the first step that's difficult, but once you decide not to look back and not give up, you will be successful, my dear. Come on, gather yourself and let's work on it together."

The Words of Kindness
Last week, I was shopping in the local supermarket. My 24-year-old daughter happened to be with me as she had just arrived home for a much-needed visit because she was going to work abroad for six months. As we were walking through the aisles (走道) and picking things she needed, we heard a child's crying that would last more than fifteen minutes. I wanted to walk over to investigate the situation, already picturing the scene in my mind. No doubt, the cries of the young boy could be heard clearly across the store.
My daughter came up to me and said, "Mom! Is that what I sounded like when I was little?"
"Yes, Rach, you sounded just like that," I replied.
We tried to continue our shopping, but the loud cries made by the boy who was asking his mom for something continued for what felt like no ending. Several more minutes went by, and the boy just wouldn't stop. I felt it necessary to follow the cries. As I approached the aisle, I could see several people watching us at the other end of the aisle, talking to each other and shaking their heads. They would walk away and then turn around with their carts (购物车) to continue their talks and figure out what was happening.
I arrived at the aisle to find a twenty-something mother standing in the middle of the aisle calmly telling the boy, "No." She was not going to get whatever the boy wanted. He was holding his mother's arms, crying, trying to get her to move. His face turned red with tears. He remained seated on the floor and beat at his mom's legs with his arms while crying at the top of his voice.

This is a story about an act of kindness that I did, which in turn changed my life in a way.

【答案】
Unexpectedly, early the next morning, my phone rang. It was Professor Smith's voice. "Good morning, I just found out it was you that one called me for help. I believe we met yesterday in a rather unusual circumstance," he began to say. I was astonished. He continued, "I'm calling to thank you for your assistance and to see if you're free to discuss your doctoral aspirations this afternoon." His voice was filled with sincerity, and I could hardly contain my excitement. "Of course, Professor Smith," I responded, feeling a surge of hope.
That afternoon, I met Professor Smith in his office. He insisted on giving me my money back, although I refused several times. Then he discussed with me about my academic goals and invited me to join his doctoral program. His unexpected call paved the way for a new chapter in my academic journey. As we communicated, I realized that sometimes, the most significant opportunities could arise from the simplest acts of kindness. It was a lesson that I would carry with me throughout my career.

【答案】
Their parents were deeply moved and they sat down to eat. They couldn't help but feel overwhelmed with emotion. It wasn't just the delicious food that moved their heart, but the thought and effort that their sons had put into making this meal for them. The aroma of home-cooked meals filled the air, and the clinking of cutlery against plates echoed through the house. There was a sense of togetherness and happiness that permeated the atmosphere, making them cherish those moments even more.
After dinner, the family sat together, sharing stories. Their parents asked about their day, showing genuine interest in their lives. Chen said they woke up early, carefully prepared the ingredients, and even took the time to decorate the plate. Their parents were proud of what their sons had done. Chen added, "After a long day's work, you are tired. I want you to relax a bit. By cooking, we not only express our love for you, but also experience the joy of learning and growth." Hearing that, they felt relieved that their child had grown up.

【答案】
Years later, I was shopping in a supermarket when I heard a voice behind me. Turning around, I saw a familiar face — Eddie, now a grown man. "Miss, is that you?" he exclaimed. We hugged and caught up on each other's lives. Eddie mentioned that after graduating, he'd traveled abroad, experienced different cultures, and realized the importance of English. Inspired by my teaching methods, he now wanted to become an English teacher himself, to pass on the joy of learning and make a difference in others' lives.
"Eddie, you want to be an English teacher? But I remember you used to hate English," I said. He smiled and nodded, "That's true, Miss. But you changed my perspective. Your storytelling approach made me realize the beauty of the language and literature. I want to do the same for others, to inspire them like you did for me." Hearing this, my heart filled with pride. I knew my decision to become a teacher had been the right one. Moments like these were the true measure of my success.

To keep his mother moving, Bob repeated the words his mother told him. "Believe in yourself. I know you can". Bob kept talking to his mother. With time passing by, their effort paid off. When they were trying to step out of the valley, the sky was so bright and starry. Bob was able to see his mother's face clearly. He broke into tears. Above the valley, there came the light and the sound of cars on the road. They held each other, walking slowly to the main road.
About an hour later, Bob and his mother finally reached the road. There was a sign on the side of the road. They got to the sign and had a good rest. Meanwhile, Bob took off his clothes and waved his hands in the air. "Stop! Please stop!" the boy kept shouting. "We need help. Get my mama to a hospital." Luckily, a driver saw him from the window and pulled up. He rushed them to the nearby hospital. Now, Markita has recovered from injuries. She said, "If it hadn't been for Bob, I'd have died."

【答案】
"Can you tell me why you want this book?" I asked. "I like adventure stories and I like dogs," he answered. I was delighted with his answer, and at once, I started to read to him. The story was so attractive to Max. He listened with great interest, totally lost in what was described in the story. He thanked me when I finished reading to him, looking so happy for having got the chance to listen to the story.
Then came the after-reading activities in which we interacted with each other. "I wish I were the dog. Then I could go on an adventure," said Max as we were talking about the story. I laughed and encouraged him to come up with some different endings of the story, which all sounded pretty funny. In the end, we acted out the story together. You can imagine how happy he was. A book opens a door to a whole new world. That day, I helped Max open one, and I'm convinced that he will be able to open many more for himself in the future.

The last task of the day was to plant new flowers. Jason and Mike were given a variety of colorful flower bulbs to plant. Despite their initial reluctance, they found a rhythm as they dug holes, placed the bulbs, and covered them with soil. The repetitive motion of planting began to feel therapeutic, and Jason even started to enjoy the earthy smell of the freshly turned soil. Each flower they planted represented a small victory, and by the time they finished, the once-overgrown lawn looked vibrant and alive.
As the day ended, Jason walked back to his room. His room, usually a source of stress, now seemed too cluttered and disorganized. Inspired by the day's activities, Jason decided to tackle the mess himself. He started by picking up the scattered clothes and organizing them in his closet. Next, he collected the empty chip bags and threw them away, and finally, he cleaned up the half-finished sodas from his desk. By the time he finished, his room looked almost unrecognizable—clean and tidy. Jason smiled, realizing that the labor education project had not only taught him about hard work but also about the value of taking care of his own space.

【答案】参考范文:
Then the gentleman took the initiative to break the silence and started talking to me. He asked about my day, his eyes kind and sincere. At first, I hesitated to share with a stranger, but his warm smile and the festive spirit in the air encouraged me to open up. I told him about my father, the struggles of my working, and the quiet Thanksgiving we were having at home. He listened attentively, comforting me occasionally with uplifting and loving words. After quite a while, the bus stopped. The man pulled himself up, glanced at his bag and then said to me, "I get off here. Hope you a happy Thanksgiving." Feeling inspired, I waved him goodbye.
He was nearly off the bus when suddenly I found he forgot his shopping bag. Before the bus doors shut, I rushed to the doors and called out to him, "Wait! You forgot your bag!" "I left it for you. Keep it, girl!" he responded, still with a warm smile. Then the bus doors closed behind him, and the gentleman faded away from my sight. Shocked and delighted, I returned to my seat to take the shopping bag, carefully unfolding it. There lived a box of chocolate, a bright tiny music box and a brand-new scarf. Recognizing the kindness of the gentleman, I felt a sense of hope for life.

【答案】One possible version:
Hearing Momma's words, Niesha stared at the precious blue ribbon, lost in thought. She pictured the scene where her mom tried her best to overcome her fears and gathered all her courage to deliver a fantastic speech to the audience. And Momma, aware of Neisha's inner confusion and anxiety, reached out her hand to tie the blue ribbon onto Niesha's wrist with a sweet smile, saying she would be with her all the time. Greatly touched and determined to find her courage, Neisha stood in front of the mirror, constantly practicing from pronunciation to tone and even each gesture. "Try harder, and I can make it!" she kept cheering herself up.
The next day Niesha again walked to the front of the classroom to give her presentation. Still shy and nervous, she customarily lowered her head to avoid making eye contact with others, numb there for seconds. But shortly afterwards, courage found its way back the moment she caught sight of the blue ribbon. Comforted and inspired, she took a deep breath, straightened her shoulders and then got started, "Dear fellow students, ..." While presenting herself, Niesha glanced at Mr. Roberts smiling at her and listening attentively. A spark of joy flashing across her eyes, she knew for sure that she had found her courage, in the mill and in the adversity.

【答案】One possible version:
Then the idea came to me: I could appeal to my fellow divers to take action. I reached out to the local divers, who immediately started supporting me. The following months saw us collecting pieces of plastic that we saw floating past and putting them in the pocket of our diving suits. If we were walking along the beach, we made sure to collect all the plastic that we saw on the sand. The effects were noticeable almost immediately. I could see the beach returning to its original beauty. However, I knew that these individual actions weren't enough to stop the concerning plastic pollution crisis unless companies stopped producing so much plastic in the first place.
I decided to take it a step further to try and stop those companies producing single-use plastics. One way in particular stood out because it was easy to implement, yet its effects would be far reaching. Whenever I found a piece of branded plastic waste in the ocean, on a river bank or beach, I took a picture of it and posted it to social media, tagged the brand, and used the hashtag IsThisYours? Since I started this approach, I have reached out to a dozen companies in this way and got more and more enthusiastic followers. We may be limited in what we can do, but I believe that a single spark can start a prairie fire.

Sarah decided to help Mrs. Wilson out. Every Saturday, as Sarah saw Mrs. Wilson, she would treat Mrs. Wilson to her desserts generously and chat with Mrs. Wilson in order to comfort the elderly woman and make Mrs. Wilson feel she was cared about. Influenced by Sarah's kindness,Mrs. Wilson gradually worked through her sorrow. While enjoying Surah's deserts, Mrs. Wilson shared her baking stories and valuable baking experience without reservation with Sarah and offered her tips on opening a bakery after knowing Sarah's dream.
Over time, their unlikely friendship became noticed in the park. Sarah's small table was not merely a place to buy desserts; it turned into a symbol of caring for the elderly. Mrs. Wilson, once a lonely woman, found herself being surrounded by a group of new friends, whose company helped her get out of loneliness. Assisted by Mrs. Wilson, the small table has grown into a shop. Sarah's bakery has been on the up and up with a constant stream of visitors, who are attracted by both the lovely smell and the moving story.

From that day onwards, Aliya worked hard, religiously following her teacher's advice. By the time the final exams drew close, she had thoroughly revised her math book and well-prepared.

On the exam day, a fear of failure upset her stomach. Aliya's heart raced as she sat down in front of the desk. She took a deep breath, trying to recall the encouragement from Mrs. Leena. As she began the test, the questions seemed difficult at first, but she pushed through, step by step, using the strategies she had learned. With each question she completed, her confidence grew. By the end of the exam, Aliya felt a sense of accomplishment, not because she was sure she had aced it, but because she had faced her fears and given it her all.
She passed her math exam with an unbelievable A grade on her report card. The moment she saw the grade, tears of joy welled up in her eyes. It wasn't just a grade. It was a testament to her hard work, her teacher's unwavering support, and the resilience she had found within herself.

I walked over to the mom and touched her arm. I told her she was doing a great job and that everything would be OK one day. I then called my daughter over and introduced her to the young mother. I explained that my daughter had been just like her son when she was that age. I told her that my daughter often drove me crazy when she was young. "I know exactly what you are dealing with right now, and I know how you feel," I said. "It does get better. Believe me, it really does."
At that moment, I could see relief wash over her. Her son stopped crying for a minute and looked at us with a confused expression. His momentary silence gave us a chance to share a few words. I told her that she was an amazing mom, and her son would thank her for being his mom someday. She smiled and thanked me for the kind words. Parents who have a child with special needs just need a kind word to know that everything will be OK. Sometimes, that's all it takes.
