Xiang Yun Sha is a special silk with a 1,000-year-long history. Its Chinese name means “Sweet-smelling Cloud Silk”. When people touch this silk, they can sense a sweet smell. This silk comes from Foshan City in China’s Guangdong Province and is famous for its softness and beautiful cloud-like pictures. Long ago, it was used to make clothing for royal families, standing for power and wealth. Today, it is considered as an important part of Chinese traditional cultures.
Making Xiang Yun Sha is a long and careful process (过程). First, the silk is washed 3 times to be clean. Next, it is heated 9 times to make the silk softer. Finally, the silk is dried 18 times under sunlight to make sure it becomes light and smooth. Natural materials like plant liquids and mineral-rich mud are also added to create its special designs. These steps, repeated over weeks, make the silk breathable and quick-drying.
One of the most special things about Xiang Yun Sha is that no two pieces are exactly alike. Each silk shows the skill and creativity of its maker requiring years of practice to master. It mixes nature—like sunlight, mud, and plants with human craftsmanship (skill in making things by hand). Designers and art lovers around the world admire it not only for its beauty but also for its connection to Chinese traditions.

It was a Monday morning in April. Tina was sitting on a train to school, feeling a bit sleepy. She was reading a book when a voice came from the speaker. Usually, train announcements (通告) were boring, but this one made her look up.
“Good morning, everyone!” said the trainman. “It’s 7:35 a. m., and I’m happy to tell you we’ll arrive right on time. Look at Sydney today! The sun is shining brightly, like a big golden apple in the sky. The temperature is 21 degrees—just perfect for a walk in the park. Listen! Can you hear the birds singing outside? They sound like a little band welcoming the day. Thank you for choosing our train. I hope you have a wonderful day ahead!”
Around her, people were smiling! A lady next to her said, “What a nice way to start the day!” A boy in a school uniform turned to his friend and laughed, “Did he just call the sun a golden apple?” An old grandpa said, “Young people today need more kindness like this.” Even strangers started chatting about the beautiful words.
When the train stopped, Tina saw a young man with a uniform standing by the door. She realized it was him—the trainman! His name tag said “Tom”. Tina walked up to him shyly. “Hi, Tom! I just wanted to say thank you for your announcement. It made everyone so happy,” she said. Tom looked surprised at first, then his face turned red. “Oh, really? That’s nice to hear. I just thought... mornings can be hard, so why not add some sunshine?” he replied, smiling nervously.
That day, Tina learned two important lessons. First, when people love their jobs, their happiness shows in small, kind actions—like a trainman’s warm words. Second, saying “thank you” can make someone’s day great, especially when they don’t expect it. She wondered if Tom would go home and tell his family, “A girl thanked me today! Can you believe it?”
Years later, Tina still remembers that morning. A simple, kind message had turned a usual train ride into a heartwarming story.
36. According to the passage, what does the golden apple stand for?
A. The name of a book. B. The sun in the sky. C. The apple on the tree. D. The birds outside.
37. What kind of voice might the trainman use to make this announcement?
A. Warm and cheerful. B. Humorous and lovely.
C Strange and excited. D. Calm and common.
38. The sentence, “Then, Tina noticed something amazing”, can be put at the beginning of ________.
A. Paragraph Two B. Paragraph Three C. Paragraph Four D. Paragraph Five
39 What can be inferred from Tina and Tom’s conversation in Paragraph 4?
A. Both Tina and Tom were shy.
B. Tom received “Thanks” every day.
C. Tina and Tom knew each other before.
D. Not everybody liked Tom’s announcement.
40. What did Tina learn from the trip?
A. One shouldn’t be too shy to say thanks.
B. One should find a kind trainman for a trip.
C. One should choose to travel on a sunny day.
D. One should love work and stay grateful (感激的).
D
“Buy Now, Pay Later” (BNPL) is a popular way to pay for things online. Instead of paying all the money at once, people can split their payments (付款) into smaller parts, often without extra costs. For example, if a phone costs $600, you might pay $100 every month for six months.
New research shows that using BNPL quickly makes people spend more. People who use BNPL are more likely to buy things. The chance of buying goes up from 17% to 26%. Also, when they shop, they buy 10% more things than before BNPL came out. The data (数据) also shows an important thing about BNPL. Later studies found that the increase in spending lasts for about six months. This means BNPL makes people spend more for a long time, not just for a short while.
Researchers did experiments to see how BNPL makes people spend more. BNPL makes people feel less stressed about money. This feeling makes people add more items to their shopping carts. They think, “If I pay a little now, I can afford more!” Tom, a college student wanting a $600 phone. Paying all at once made him feel terrible, but BNPL let them pay $150 four times. He thought: “Only $150now? That’s easy!” This made him believe he could control their money better. Also, Tom added earphones ($80) and a phone case ($20). “I’ll just pay $25 more each time!” Soon their total becomes $700 instead of $600.
At first, BNPL seems good for everyone. Shops sell more, and buyers get what they want quickly. But there’s a problem. People who already struggle with money might borrow too much. Just like eating too much candy feels good at first but makes you sick later, BNPL can be cause of your money trouble if used carelessly.
BNPL has both sides. Shops should check if buyers can really afford the payments. Everyone should ask, “Do I need this now? Can I pay later without stress?” Remember, small payments add up quickly!
41. What does the underlined word “split” in Paragraph 1 probably mean?
A. divide B. cancel C. reduce D. mix
42. According to the research, how much higher is the chance of buying for people who use BNPL?
A. 7%. B. 9%. C. 10%. D. 26%.
43. How much should Tom pay every month according Paragraph 3?
A. $100. B. $150. C. $175. D. $250.
44. How does the writer show that BNPL makes people spend more?
A. By listing a few numbers. B. By asking questions.
C. By comparing some facts. D. By giving an example.
45. What does the writer think of BNPL?
A. It should be stopped to avoid money trouble.
B. It is only useful for buying expensive items.
C. It is very helpful, but we must use it wisely.
D. It is a perfect payment method for everyone.

AI has been in the news for years. Many people now use it in their work and personal lives. Have you ever dreamed of using AI to help you with your schoolwork? Well, dream no more—You can do it right now.
Nowadays, there are “AI-powered study rooms”. Their ads promise that their “AI apps” can find out each student’s weaknesses and then create “smart” study plans and exercises. Wouldn’t that be helpful? But wait a minute before you ask your parents to sign you up. There’s more to the story.
Many parents aren’t happy with the service after their kids tried these study rooms. The “AI apps”, they say, don’t live up to hopes. They just point out students’ mistakes and repeat the same exercises over and over. Most lessons are pre-recorded videos. Does it sound like there is any real AI in this?
Don’t be sad, though. You can still make your dream of learning with AI come true. You just don’t need to go to an “AI-powered study room” to try out this cool tech. AI chatbots from companies like DeepSeek are free to use anytime, anywhere. The key is to learn how to use them wisely.
When you ask AI for help, make it clear what its role is and what task you want it to do.
If the answer isn’t clear, ask more questions about it.
◆It’s not a good idea to let AI do all your homework. You should ask AI to check and make better your work after you finish it.
It takes time to master AI. But it’s a much smarter way to spend your time learning it than sitting in an “AI-powered study room”!

Each silk shows the skill and creativity of its maker, requiring years of practice to master.

“Good morning everyone!” said the trainman.

【答案】41. A 42. B 43. B 44. D 45. C

When you ask AI for help, make it clear what its role is and what task you want it to do.

Currently, I am slightly overweight. The main reason is that I often eat junk food. And spend too much time sitting in front of the desk. I hardly ever do any exercise.
To improve my health, I plan to make some changes. First, I will eat more fruits and vegetables instead of processed snacks. Second, I will exercise for at least 30 minutes daily, such as jogging or playing basketball. Finally, I will ensure enough sleep to stay energetic.
By sticking to this plan, I believe I can achieve a healthier lifestyle and better weight management.
