B On a sunny morning, I walked casually through the park, savoring the gentle breeze, with the simple desire to locate a quiet spot for a good book. Little did I know that an unexpected encounter with a naughty creature would turn this peaceful outing into an unforgettable experience. Settling down on a comfortable bench under an oak tree, I was fascinated by a novel, lost in a world of fictional characters. Suddenly, a strange sound interrupted me. Curiously, I glanced in the direction of the noise, only to discover a squirrel hurrying towards my bag. Immediately, I reached out to protect my bag from the thief. But the squirrel ran away, grasping a chocolate bar stolen from my bag. Fueled by determination to get my snack back, I gave chase to the creature through the park. The squirrel displayed impressive flexibility, effortlessly jumping onto trees and leaping from branch to branch. Children and bystanders couldn’t help but laugh at the spectacle of a grown adult chasing a squirrel. The chase continued, and as I ran after the squirrel, I became both exhausted and awkward. The peacefulness of the park transformed into a lively playground, with laughter echoing around us. The squirrel, seemingly aware of its comical effect, increased its speed and finally vanished into thin air. As I made my way back to the bench, my heart still raced from the pursuit. I couldn’t help but feel a sense of companionship with the squirrel. It had reminded me to embrace the unexpected, to break free from routine, and most importantly, to find joy in life’s simplest pleasures. From that day forward, whenever I visit the park, I always keep a chocolate bar handy, just in case I come across my friend. 4. What did the author want to do in the park? A. Observe nature and wildlife. B. Find a quiet place to read. C. Enjoy the sunshine and gentle breeze. D. Have a picnic with his friends. 5. What did the squirrel do to the author? A. Tore up his book. B. Gave him some snacks. C. Stole his chocolate bar. D. Chased him in the park. 6. What lesson did the author learn from this experience? A. The importance of welcoming surprises. B. The habit of always carrying a chocolate bar. C. The significance of developing a new routine. D. The necessity of keeping a safe distance from animals. 7. What can be a suitable title for the text? A. A Small Thief: An Annoying Squirrel B. Lost in a Book: A Squirrel’s Interruption C. An Unexpected Encounter: A Stealing Squirrel D. Importance of Routine: Lessons Learned in a Park C One Saturday last November, I stepped into my local library. I was about to read a book when I heard an elderly man speak to a lady. “This library will soon become a café. Everyone is reading with electronic devices,” he said. Hearing this, I wanted to shout, “I still read library books!” But my words stuck in my throat and I found teenagers around me were talking to friends or staring at their phones. Reading online feels robotic to me. It’s like I stare at a screen and click “next” for the following page to appear until the very end of the e-book, and at the end of all of that, I just think, “That’s it?” But when I read a printed book, it’s like I’m holding on to the characters. I can visualize the plot better, as I can picture the scenes of each moment in my head with more accuracy and imagination. Besides some online books miss components that are in the printed novels. For instance, the physical copy of a fantasy novel I have read contains a map, but the e-book version does not. That is an injustice to e-book users; after reading and interpreting the map, the story made a lot more sense for me, in terms of the setting and plot. And personally, physically turning to the next page is better than clicking “next”. When reading online, I sometimes worry that I click “next” too quickly. It feels more like a race; I want to finish it because the pages just keep making that “flipping” sound and I wonder how long the book really is. Some printed books have a special smell that makes the novel feel special to me. It’s hard to describe but I’m sure I’m not the only one that thinks so. I know I cannot convince every teen to switch from the digital book to the printed one, but maybe my writing about the difference will at least get some of them to think about it. 8. Why will the library be replaced by a cafe? A. Few people head for it. B. Few people read its books. C. It lacks good management. D. It holds little attraction for the youth. 9. Why does the author prefer printed books according to paragraph 2? A. They leave a vivid impression. B. They include additional contents. C. They have a special pleasant smell. D They can improve readers’ imagination. 10. What influence does reading online have on the author? A. Making her tired of reading. B. Leading her to read aimlessly. C. Stopping her digging into reading. D. Bringing more injustice to her. 11. What is the author’s purpose of writing this text? A. To awaken teenagers’ interest in reading. B. To publicize advantages of printed books. C To reduce the impact of electronic devices. D. To encourage teens to change the reading medium. D Virtual reality is quickly becoming the new technological frontier. Tech companies everywhere seem to be racing to get their foot in the VR door. However, virtual reality has a set of challenges and hurdles that it must overcome in order to work well. It should be noted that VR is heavily dependent on being very fast, very accurate and very good-looking. If it isn’t, the viewer will feel motion sick or disconnected from the world that VR is trying to create. Now that we can actually build VR headsets that begin to meet these requirements, we are seeing a rising interest in VR. As it rises, so does the interest in creating new media to be experienced in using virtual reality. Journalism is a medium built on relevance. Journalists should always be finding new ways to tell stories and deliver content. It is a goldmine for storytelling. What better ways to tell a story to someone than to put them right in the center of it? Virtual reality is a powerful tool for journalists. The consumer isn’t just reading or watching something play out; they’re experiencing it. The immersive nature of VR allows for people to connect with the subject matter on a much deeper level than just reading about it. The experience is emotional, speaking more to our instinct (直觉) than our intellect. The possibilities for storytelling here are legion, and any storyteller wanting to do something more interesting than their peers should surely be considering the sheer power of VR. The question of virtual reality, though, is not how powerful it is. That is immediately apparent. The question of VR is one of viability and availability. Telling stories must be easy to do, and access to those stories must be readily available. This is the biggest challenge that VR faces. If the tools to tell a story with VR aren’t easy to pick up and learn, VR will fail. If VR technology isn’t both top-of-the-line and affordable, VR will fail. Accessibility was one concern for Thomas Hallaq, assistant professor of journalism and mass communications, who said that current VR technology, is pretty exclusive (专用的) right now. Despite that, he said he doesn’t think the exclusivity of this technology will be a problem in the long run. “I think it’s very promising” Hallaq said. “We’re seeing more technology become accessible, and more people having access to that technology. Just look at smartphones.” Like radio, TV and the Internet before it, virtual reality will change the way we tell stories. 12. What does the underlined word mean in paragraph 1? A. difficulty B. competition C. trend D. conflict 13. According to the passage, what is the biggest challenge VR is facing? A. How powerful and interesting it can be. B. Whether people will have easy access to it. C. Whether qualified VR headsets can be built. D. What new ways people will find to deliver content. 14. What’s the author’s attitude towards the future of VR technology? A. Pessimistic. B. Neutral. C. Optimistic. D. Concerned. 15. What is the main idea of this passage? A. Virtual Reality is facing challenges. B. Virtual Reality is gaining popularity. C. Virtual Reality is seeing fast development. D. Virtual Reality is reshaping the future of storytelling. You may not be able to change your school’s environmental policy, but you can be the change you want to see in the world. Importance of Routine: Lessons Learned in a Park 【答案】4. B 5. C 6. A 7. C One Saturday last November, I stepped into my local library. Besides, some online books miss components that are in the printed novels. D. They can improve readers’ imagination. C. To reduce the impact of electronic devices. D. To encourage teens to change the reading medium. 8. B 9. A 10. C 11. It feels more like a race; I want to finish it because the pages just keep making that “flipping” sound and I wonder how long the book really is. 根据最后一段中“I know I cannot convince every teen to switch from the digital book to the printed one, but maybe my writing about the difference will at least get some of them to think about it. D。 D Virtual reality is quickly becoming the new technological frontier. “I think it’s very promising,” Hallaq said. 根据最后一段最后一句“Like radio, TV and the Internet before it, virtual reality will change the way we tell stories. 因此,D项“Virtual Reality is reshaping the future of storytelling (虚拟现实是讲故事的未来)”,最能准确概括文章主旨。 You may not be able to change your school’s environmental policy, but you can be the change you want to see in the world.
