As I looked out of the school bus window, I saw the Galaxy Drive-In (银河汽车影院). One sign said “CLOSED,” and the girl next to me whispered, “It’s haunted (闹鬼的). Sometimes movies play there by themselves!” Later, I told my mom about it, but she doubted it. That night, however, I saw lights shining on the screen. Was it really haunted?
The next morning, Mom and I went to check it. The place looked like an empty car park. While we were looking at an old movie poster, an old man appeared. “This is a private place,” he said. Mom apologized, explaining we had just moved nearby and that she used to visit it as a kid. The man’s expression softened. I blurted out, “They say ghosts play movies here!” Mom gave me a look, but the man smiled. “I’m the one playing those movies,” he said, introducing himself as Nick. “My dad opened this place in 1957.”
Nick explained that he couldn’t afford a digital projector (数字投影机), so he had to close it. Before leaving, he invited us to watch a movie that night. We returned, and as I sat with Mom in our car, I imagined how lively the drive-in must have been years ago. After the movie, Mom asked Nick if he’d reopen with a new projector. “Sure,” he said. That night, I kept thinking about the excitement of seeing that big screen light up. Nick had looked so happy talking about the old days.
That’s when my big idea came to me.
The next day, Mom and I talked to Nick. With his OK, I wrote a letter to our newspaper.
Help save the Galaxy! To reopen, the Galaxy Drive-In needs your help to upgrade its projection system. With your help, this historical theatre can once again become a good place for families in our town.
I ended by asking people for contributions. If even half the families in the town donated a dollar each, Nick would have enough.
We were hopeful, but after two weeks, only a few hundred dollars was raised.
I felt glum, but soon things brightened.
Nick called our house. “An organization that protects old theatres saw your letter and started an online fundraiser,” Nick said excitedly. “See what you started, Jared? I can’t thank you enough.”
That was a year ago. Today, the Galaxy is back in business. I’ve never seen Nick happier. On a good night, he gets 300 cars.
28.Why does the writer include the detail about Nick’s father opening the drive-in in 1957?
A.To show the drive-in’s historical value. B.To explain why it needed a digital projector.
C.To show Nick’s deep love for his father. D.To explain why no one came to watch movies.
29.What does “my big idea” in Paragraph 5 refer to?
A.Buying a new projector. B.Organizing a movie night.
C.Talking to Nick with Mom. D.Writing to ask for donations.
30.What is the best title for the story?
A.Saving the Galaxy B.Opening a Drive-In

In Chinese culture, the snake is an important role, but its symbolic (象征性的) meanings have changed over time.
In the mythic (神话的) geography book Classic of Mountains and Seas (《山海经》), many gods are shown holding snakes, hanging them around their ears, or having the body of a snake as a mark of their special abilities.
As snakes are often found in underground caves, they are often believed to be connected to the dead, who are buried underground, according to Han Ding, an associate professor of archaeology at Henan University. Pieces of pottery found in an old city from the early Shang Dynasty (around 16th~11th century BC), which is now Zhengzhou, have pictures of a human head inside the mouths of snakes. Han added that by placing a human head within the mouths of snakes, people performed a ceremonial (仪式上的) death, allowing communication with their ancestors in the afterlife.
From the Shang Dynasty at the latest, people thought the universe was organized in levels, with gods in heaven, humans on earth and the underworld as the land of the dead. People wanted to go beyond these limits and show respect for their ancestors, so they believed the snake had the qualities they were looking for. They observed the snake digging from the earth into the underworld and considered it as a bridge between the living, the dead and the gods.
During the Han Dynasty (206 BC~AD 220), snakes were often seen in designs connected to xuanwu, a mythical creature from Chinese stories that looks like a mix of a snake and a tortoise. In later dynasties, snakes appeared less often in cultural relics but remained one of the 12 animals in the Chinese zodiac (生肖).
Having lived on earth for more than 100 million years, the snake has always been part of Chinese culture and life. “Changing from the Neolithic era (新石器时代), snakes served as bridges between humans and gods and finally became a zodiac symbol for the common folk. The cultural significance tied to snakes has only grown richer, continuing into modern times,” said Wang Fang, deputy director of the Jinsha Site Museum in Chengdu.
31.Why are snakes often connected to the dead in Chinese culture, according to Han Ding?
A.Snakes are believed to carry the souls of the dead. B.Snakes are buried alongside the dead.
C.Snakes live in underground caves. D.Snakes are seen as dangerous creatures.
32.How did people in the Shang Dynasty view snakes?
A.As protectors of the underworld. B.As creatures with special powers.
C.As symbols of their ancestors. D.As bridges between different worlds.
33.What is Wang Fang’s view on the future of the snake’s cultural importance?
A.Worried. B.Hopeful. C.Doubtful. D.Uncertain.
【答案】31.C 32.D 33.B

Although AI can bring people comfort, it still cannot match the full abilities of a human therapist.
From social relationships work challenges, Chinese people are turning to DeepSeek to address different personal issues. They describe sharing their thoughts and receiving helpful feedback from the popular chatbot. As a rising trend on social media, AI therapy is changing the way people seek mental health support. But can AI truly replace a human therapist? Globally, 45 percent of people who needed mental health care in 2024 did not receive it, with barriers (障碍) including cost and a lack of providers, according to Huntington Psychological Services, Daniel Lowd, an associate professor at the University of Oregon, believes AI could help solve the lack of therapy services. “If people can find some support and opinions by talking to ChatGPT or chatbot Claude, then I think that’s wonderful,” Lowd told Newsweek.
Li Yong, a doctor at the Jiangsu Province Hospital, agreed with Lowd, saying that AI meets people’s needs for emotional support to some extent. By using basic knowledge of psychotherapy, DeepSeek can help with minor mental issues through comforting responses, Li told Shanghai Observer.
However, he points out that AI cannot completely replace professionals due to the human touch that is important for therapeutic services. Therapists develop a deeper understanding of people’s emotions and needs through communication, which allows them to offer more tailored (有针对性的) treatment plans, Shanghai Observer reported.
The use of AI in psychotherapy also raises concerns over the reliability (可靠性) of responses. “AI chatbots will respond as therapists if asked, without any of the oversight (监督), training or responsibility of human counselor (顾问) or even a specialized (专业的) and tested piece of software,” Richard Lachman, an associate professor at Toronto Metropolitan University, told Newsweek.
Experts believe the key to effective AI therapy is proper government regulation (监管). Wysa, for example, is a mental health app that offers therapeutic conversations with an AI chatbot. In 2022, it worked with the UK’s National Health Service, following a list of strict standards.
A.Saving the Galaxy B.Opening a Drive-In
C.Exploring the Truth D.Meeting Neighbour Nick

As AI becomes more a part of our lives, understanding its effects on human psychology means finding a balance between what’s helpful and what’s dangerous, Euronews reported.
34.What is Daniel Lowd’s attitude toward AI therapy?
A.Worried. B.Positive. C.Doubtful. D.Uncertain.
35.Why does Li Yong believe AI can’t fully replace human therapists?
A.AI is unbelievable. B.AI lacks emotional depth.
C.AI is unable to take responsibility. D.AI knows little about psychotherapy.
36.According to experts, what is the key to effective AI therapy?
A.Public awareness. B.Professional training.
C.Advanced technology. D.Government regulation.
37.What is the main topic of the article?
A.AI’s role in mental health care.
B.The increasing use of AI chatbots.
C.The future of mental health care with AI.
D.The benefits of AI for emotional support.

A.Saving the Galaxy B.Opening a Drive-In
C.Exploring the Truth D.Meeting Neighbour Nick

China in My Eyes
Hello, everyone! I am from China and I like my country very much. Now I’d like to introduce my country to you!
As I gradually grow up, I find myself reflecting on the beauty and depth of my native country, China. The essence of China, in my eyes, is a tapestry of rich history, vibrant culture, and unwavering spirit. In ancient times, Shen Nong invented tea. And China has many traditional festivals with a long history, such as the Dragon Boat Festival, the Spring Festival, and so on. In modern times, the wide application of high-speed rail and new energy cars has made people’s life more convenient. WeChat Pay allows us to shop without carrying cash.
In order to achieve the dream of a great nation, we should thirst for knowledge and study hard. And we should never give up.
I’m proud to grow up here and will contribute to its future!
