When I was in high school, school was a big part of my life. I spent most of my days there, learning new things and having fun with my friends. But one experience really stood out and has stayed with me.
One sunny morning in my first year of high school, my English teacher came into the classroom with a big smile. She told us that we would be putting on a musical at the end of the year. I had always loved singing and dancing, but I had never really tried it before. This was a chance I decided to catch.
During the practices, I was filled with both excitement and nervousness. Sometimes I would forget my words and feel really worried, my heart beating wildly in my chest. But when we performed well, I felt so proud and happy, like we had achieved something truly special. Through all these ups and downs, my classmates and I became really close. We laughed together, encouraged each other, and shared our fears and hopes. We became a team, working together towards a common goal.
On the night of the musical I stood behind the curtains waiting for my turn. I couldn’t believe how far we had come. We had worked so hard and now we were ready to show everyone what we could do. Then the curtains opened and we started performing in front of a full audience. When we finished, thunderous applause filled the hall. I felt a sense of pride that I had never felt before.
This experience taught me a lot. I learned how important it is to work together as a team and to keep trying even when things are hard. I also learned that it’s good to try new things and step out of my comfort zone.
Looking back, I’m really thankful for that opportunity and all the lessons it taught me. It was one of the most unforgettable experiences of my life. So, I encourage everyone to step into the unknown and take advantage of the opportunities that come your way. You never know what amazing memories and lessons they might bring.
24. How did the author feel about the musical at first?
A. Eager. B. Worried. C. Nervous. D. Hesitant.
25. What do we know about the author during the practices?
A. He forgot the lines due to his bad memory. B. He experienced a mix of feelings.
C. He went through the process smoothly. D. He became nervous for lack of preparation.
26. What can we infer from the fourth paragraph?
A. The author played the leading role. B. The classmates didn’t get along well.
C. The performance was a great success. D. The author used to act in many plays.
27. What does the author inspire others to do?
A. To show thanks. B. To try new things.
C. To act in musicals. D. To leave nice memories.

Stonehenge is a very famous stone circle located in southern England. For centuries, historians have been extremely confused by it. On Wednesday, researchers brought out new and unexpected information about the six-ton Altar Stone at Stonehenge.
For a long time, people believed that the Altar Stone, which lies in the middle of the well-known circle, came from Wales. However, new research shows that it actually came from Scotland, which is hundreds of miles away. This discovery raises new questions about how people transported the stone about 5,000 years ago. According to a study published in the journal Nature on Wednesday, the Altar Stone probably came from the Orcadian Basin in Scotland, at least 466 miles from Stonehenge.
Chris Kirkland, one of the experts, said this discovery of where the Altar Stone came from showed there was a high level of cooperation from local people during the Neolithic period. Moving such a huge stone from Scotland to southern England by land would have been extremely challenging. So, it’s likely they used a shipping route along the British coast.
Stonehenge is mainly made up of two kinds of stones: sarsen (砂岩) and bluestone. The large sarsen stones mostly came from an area about 16 miles north of the monument. The Altar Stone is considered a bluestone. Studies in the past have shown that most of Stonehenge’s bluestones came from Wales. To find out where the Altar Stone came from, geologists examined its chemical characteristics and analyzed the minerals in the rock. They found that the Altar Stone didn’t match the geology of Welsh rocks.
“While we can now say that this iconic rock is Scottish and not Welsh, the research will still very much be on to pin down where exactly in the north-east of Scotland the Altar Stone came from,” study co-author and Aberystwyth University professor Richard Bevins said.
English Heritage, the organization that looks after Stonehenge, called this an exciting discovery. They said in a social media post that the more we learn about Stonehenge, the more questions we get. The purpose of Stonehenge is still a puzzle. Some people think it was built for astronomical (天文的) reasons, while others think it was related to human sacrifice (祭祀).
28. What is the second paragraph mainly about?
A. The location of the Altar Stone. B. The reason for building the Stonehenge.
C. The method of transporting the Altar Stone. D. The discovery of the Altar Stone’s true origin.
29. What played a key part in the move of the stone?
A. Teamwork. B. Superpower. C. Leadership. D. Creativity.
30. What does the underlined part “pin down” most probably mean?
A. Find out. B. Look down. C. Take on. D. Set off.
31. What can we infer about the purpose of the Stonehenge?
A. People think it a mystery forever. B. People will bring it to light soon.
C. People hold different views on it. D. People mostly consider it as a kind of sacrifice.
D
A surprisingly efficient and powerful Chinese AI model has taken the technology industry by storm. It’s called DeepSeek R1, which makes Wall Street nervous. The new AI model was developed by DeepSeek, a company that was born in 2023. R1 can nearly match the capabilities of its far more famous competitors, including OpenAI’s GPT-4, Meta’s Llama and Google’s Gemini — but it costs much less. The company spent just $5.6 million powering its base AI model, compared with the hundreds of millions of dollars American companies spend.
But R1 gained significant attention this week when the company revealed its shockingly low cost of operation. And it is open-source, which means other companies can test and build upon the model to improve it. The DeepSeek app has been downloaded nearly 2 million times.
AI development needs a lot of power and money. Meta said it would spend $65 billion this year on AI development. Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, said the AI industry would need even more dollars in investment to support the development of high-in-demand chips (芯片).
Andreessen, who set up Andreessen Horowitz, calls DeepSeek one of the most amazing and impressive achievements that he has ever seen in a post on the Internet. If that potentially world-changing power can be achieved at a significantly reduced cost, it will open up new possibilities and threats to the planet.
Although the cost-saving achievement may be significant, the R1 model hasn’t yet proven it can deal with some of the extremely ambitious (耗资的) AI capabilities for industries that for now still require huge and large amounts of investment.
32. Which makes DeepSeek Rl amazing?
A. Its developers. B. Its latest chips.
C. Its cost-effectiveness. D. Its application fields.
33. What is Andreessen’s attitude on capabilities of DeepSeek R1?
A. Positive. B. Uninterested. C. Doubtful. D. Negative.
34. What can be inferred about the R1 model?
A. It reaches perfection. B. It is dangerous for humans.
C. It still has technology bottle-neck. D. Its cost can’t go down any more.
35. Which is the best title for the text?
A. DeepSeek R1’s Limiting Factors B. AI’s High-cost Problem
C. DeepSeek R1: Low-cost Wonder D. AI Competitors: A Big Race

On December 26,2024, a great act of heroism (英雄主义) took place at Poospatuck Creek. A brave woman named Kayla Masotto, who is 28 and lives in Mastic, Long Island, saved a boy’s life.
That was a clear winter day. Two teenage boys were skating on the icy waters of Poospatuck Creek. They didn’t seem to notice the hidden danger under the ice. They skated around, laughing and shouting as they playfully bumped into each other. One of them attempted a daring spin (快速旋转), his arms waving in the air for balance. The other chased after, trying to catch him. Their high spirits added a lively contrast to the quiet winter landscape, but little did they know that danger was waiting.
At about 6 p. m., Kayla was in her kitchen. As she washed vegetables for the evening meal, she glanced out of the window and a heart-warming sight met her eyes. The laughter and shouts of the boys floated gently towards her. However, in an minute, Kayla’s heart skipped a beat. One of the boys’ feet broke through the ice with a sudden crack and then the whole body. Panic immediately welled up inside Kayla. Her mind went blank for a moment, filled only with the picture of the boy struggling in the cold water. The other boy stood frozen in shock, helplessly and hopelessly. She was so worried about the boy’s life that she finally made a serious decision.
Without a second thought, Kayla dropped the vegetables in her hands. Water from the kitchen tap splashed everywhere but she rushed to grab her paddleboard (冲浪板), which was leaning against the wall. Her heart pounding in her chest, she ran across her backyard. Every step seemed to echo with the urgent situation. In only a few seconds, she reached the bank of the lake.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Asking the other boy to go for help, Kayla used her board as a raft (木筏) and paddled through the thin ice.

As Kayla reached the land, the other boy also returned with some neighbors.

【答案】18. C 19. C 20. A
【解析】
【原文】 M: Last year, during my exchange program in Kenya, I had an unforgettable experience that made me realize the serious water problem around the world. I lived with a local family in a small village. There, getting clean water was a big problem every day. Every morning, I went with the women and children on a two-hour walk to the nearest well. This daily trip taught me a lot about how people in the community help each other and stay strong. Even though life was tough, people shared what they had and supported one another. I was especially touched by a group of teenage girls. They came up with a plan to help the old neighbors get water. Moved by their good idea, I worked with local students to start a project to collect rainwater for their school. We put in simple collection tools and things to make the water clean. This provided clean water during the rainy season. The project not only helped the school but also became a place where other villages could learn. This experience made me understand that small actions can bring big changes.

On the night of the musical, I stood behind the curtains waiting for my turn.

【答案】28. D 29. A 30. A 31. C

注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Asking the other boy to go for help, Kayla used her board as a raft (木筏) and paddled through the thin ice.

As Kayla reached the land, the other boy also returned with some neighbors.

【答案】参考范文
Asking the other boy to go for help, Kayla used her board as a raft and paddled through the thin ice. In a few moments, she was close enough to the drowning boy and saw the terror in the boy’s wide-opened eyes. With a steady hand, she softly extended her paddle toward him, saying, “Grab on.” Her gentle voice brought the boy some calm amidst the chaos. Pulling the boy out of the water and onto her board proved to be a challenging task. But Kayla made it with great effort.
As Kayla reached the land, the other boy also returned with some neighbors. They immediately came to help. The boy was kept warm by a blanket and sent to the nearest hospital at once. Kayla saved the boy from drowning. Her quick action prevented a bad situation from getting worse and won people’s respect. They praised her highly for her bravery. But Kayla said it was an instinct to help someone in trouble. Her story shows how one person can make a big difference when it counts.

I lived with a local family in a small village there. Getting clean water was a big problem. Every day, every morning, I went with the women and children on a two hour walk to the nearest well. The project not only helped the school, but also became a place where other villages could learn. This experience made me understand that small actions can bring big changes.
