C. Communities need no help. C 19. C 20. M: Last year, during my exchange program in Kenga, I had an unforgettable experience that made me realize the serious water problem around the world. I lived with a local family in a small village. There, getting clean water was a big problem every day. Every morning, I went with the women and children on a two hour walk to the nearest well. This daily trip taught me a lot about how people in the community help each other and stay strong. Even though life was tough, people shared what they had and supported one another. I was especially touched by a group of teenage girls. They came up with a plan to help the old neighbors get water. Moved by their good idea, I worked with local students to start a project to collect rainwater for their school. We put in simple collection tools and things to make the water clean. This provided clean water during the rainy season. The project not only helped the school but also became a place where other villages could learn. This experience made me understand that small actions can bring big changes. A THE WORLD’S LARGEST CHRISTMAS LIGHT SHOW The World’s Largest Christmas Light Show featuring the Magical Christmas Drone (无人机) Show can seriously not be missed. This experience will be followed by the Magical Christmas Drones and the World’s Largest Christmas Light Show. After that, you'll see hundreds of drones light up the sky. 根据第四段“Stone Mountain Christmas tickets start at $24.99 and go up to $39.99 depending on the day.(石山公园圣诞门票根据日期不同,起价为 24.99 美元,最高为 39.99 美元)” 可知,一对夫妇仅参观石山公园圣诞节活动,至少需要花费 24.99×2 = 49.98 美元。 A。 B A surprisingly efficient and powerful Chinese AI model has taken the technology industry by storm. It’s called DeepSeek R1, which makes Wall Street nervous. The new AI model was developed by DeepSeek, a company that was born in 2023. R1 can nearly match the capabilities of its far more famous competitors, including OpenAI’s GPT-4, Meta’s Llama and Google’s Gemini — but it costs much less. The company spent just $5.6 million powering its base AI model, compared with the hundreds of millions of dollars American companies spend. But R1 gained significant attention this week when the company revealed its shockingly low cost of operation. And it is open-source, which means other companies can test and build upon the model to improve it. The DeepSeek app has been downloaded nearly 2 million times. AI development needs a lot of power and money. Meta said it would spend $65 billion this year on AI development. Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, said the AI industry would need even more dollars in investment to support the development of high-in-demand chips (芯片). Andreessen, who set up Andreessen Horowitz, calls DeepSeek one of the most amazing and impressive achievements that he has ever seen in a post on the Internet. If that potentially world changing power can be achieved at a significantly reduced cost, it will open up new possibilities and threats to the planet. Although the cost-saving achievement may be significant, the R1 model hasn’t yet proven it can deal with some of the extremely ambitious (耗资的) AI capabilities for industries that for now still require huge and large amounts of investment. 24. Which makes DeepSeek R1 amazing? A. Its developers. B. Its latest chips. C. Its cost-effectiveness. D. Its application fields. 25. What is Andreessen’s opinion on capabilities of DeepSeek R1? A. Positive. B. Uninterested. C. Doubtful. D. Negative. 26. What can be inferred about the R1 model? A. It reaches perfection. B. It is dangerous for humans. C. It still has technology bottle-neck. D. Its cost can’t go down any more. 27. Which is the best title for the text? A. DeepSeek R1’s Limiting Factors B. AI’s High-cost Problem C. DeepSeek R1: Low-cost Wonder D. AI Competitors: A Big Race 【答案】24. C 25. A 26. C 27. 根据文章第一段中的“A surprisingly efficient and powerful Chinese AI model has taken the technology industry by storm. 以及“R1 can nearly match the capabilities of its far more famous competitors, including OpenAI’s GPT-4, Meta’s Llama and Google’s Gemini — but it costs much less. The company spent just $5.6 million powering its base AI model, compared with the hundreds of millions of dollars American companies spend.(R1的性能几乎可以与更知名的竞争对手相媲美,包括OpenAI的GPT-4、Meta的Llama和谷歌的Gemini,但成本却低得多。 根据文章倒数第二段“Andreessen, who set up Andreessen Horowitz, calls DeepSeek one of the most amazing and impressive achievements that he has ever seen in a post on the Internet.(安德森(Andreessen)是安德森·霍洛维茨基金(Andreessen Horowitz)的创始人,他在互联网上的一篇帖子中称,DeepSeek是他见过的最令人惊叹和印象深刻的成就之一。)” 故选A项。 根据文章最后一段“Although the cost-saving achievement may be significant, the R1 model hasn’t yet proven it can deal with some of the extremely ambitious (耗资的) AI capabilities for industries that for now still require huge and large amounts of investment.(尽管R1模型在节约成本方面取得的成就可能非常显著,但它尚未证明自己能够应对某些对于目前仍需巨额投资的行业而言极为复杂且耗资巨大的AI能力。)” 根据文章第一段中的“A surprisingly efficient and powerful Chinese AI model has taken the technology industry by storm. 以及“R1 can nearly match the capabilities of its far more famous competitors, including OpenAI’s GPT-4, Meta’s Llama and Google’s Gemini — but it costs much less.(R1的性能几乎可以与更知名的竞争对手相媲美,包括OpenAI的GPT-4、Meta的Llama和谷歌的Gemini,但成本却低得多。)” C The creativity TikTok stimulates allows for a broad range of content that encourages users to participate in trends that integrate their passions and hobbies. Specifically, content related to literature on TikTok has generated its own domain. Commonly referred to as “BookTok,” this side of the platform focuses on all things about books: book recommendations, tips for pleasing bookshelves and edits related to literature-based fandoms (粉丝圈). With heightened demand for new media to comfort themselves during the pandemic period of severe challenges, many young adults have regarded literature as a form of escape. Restarting former literary passions, BookTok users have turned their attention to the app to praise the novels that have helped serve as a brief getaway to worlds within bound pages. Through a revival of novels that shaped the childhoods of many who are now young adults, even younger generations on the app have been exposed to foundational novels in young adult literature. Along with this emphasis on nostalgic (怀旧的) fandoms, BookTok takes advantage of TikTok trends in order to attract those who may not be familiar with literature to read. The popularity of BookTok and the novels that are recommended to young adults on the app have had a direct effect on bookstores and book sales, with both independent bookstores and chains such as Barnes & Noble taking notice of the broader range of readers that are influenced by TikTok and updating their stock to appeal to users. As of March 2021, BookTok has over 6 billion views and will only continue to grow larger. Though the popularity of BookTok brought many significant questions regarding the future of the book industry and the books that receive mass attention on social media, the importance of the BookTok phenomenon perhaps lies mainly with the readers who claim their love for books and the creative channels through which they express this admiration. TikTok has demonstrated, at least through BookTok, that brilliant literature is written for a broad audience — the perfect book for you is waiting somewhere on a shelf and, through BookTok, you will surely discover it. 28. What can users do on BookTok? A. Share favorable books. B. Buy pretty bookshelves. C. Make profits from editing. D. Create their own platforms. 29. What influence does BookTok have? A. TikTok has lost quantities of users. B. The elderly take up children’s books. C. The bookstores change their books accordingly. D. Youths start treasuring their memories of childhood. 30. What does the last paragraph mainly tell us about BookTok? A. Its bright future. B. Its big challenges. C. Its amazing function. D. Its minor disadvantages. 31. What is the best title for the text? A. Why BookTok had an effect on bookstores B. How BookTok expanded its range of audience C. Why BookTok gained popularity among elderly D. How BookTok repopularized young adult fiction 【答案】28. A 29. C 30. A 31. 根据第一段的“Commonly referred to as “BookTok,” this side of the platform focuses on all things about books: book recommendations, tips for pleasing bookshelves and edits related to literature-based fandoms. 故选A。 根据第三段的“The popularity of BookTok and the novels that are recommended to young adults on the app have had a direct effect on bookstores and book sales, with both independent bookstores and chains such as Barnes & Noble taking notice of the broader range of readers that are influenced by TikTok and updating their stock to appeal to users.(BookTok的流行和该应用程序上向年轻人推荐的小说对书店和图书销售产生了直接影响,独立书店和巴诺书店等连锁书店都注意到了受TikTok影响的更广泛的读者,并更新了库存以吸引用户) ”可知,BookTok促使书店相应地更换了他们的书籍。 根据最后一段的“As of March 2021, BookTok has over 6 billion views and will only continue to grow larger. 故选A项。 通读全文,根据第一段的“The creativity TikTok stimulates allows for a broad range of content that encourages users to participate in trends that integrate their passions and hobbies. Specifically, content related to literature on TikTok has generated its own domain. Commonly referred to as “BookTok,” this side of the platform focuses on all things about books: book recommendations, tips for pleasing bookshelves and edits related to literature-based fandoms.(TikTok激发的创造力提供了广泛的内容,鼓励用户参与融合其激情和爱好的潮流,具体而言,TikTok上与文学相关的内容已经拥有了自己的领域。 D。 D The mission is simple. Arrive on foreign soil, fit in and wait. Then, when the time is right, emerge from the shadows and take over. This procedure, familiar from spy fiction as the preserve of sleeper agents (潜伏的间谍) , is also the strategy of certain invasive plant species. Invasive species that stay put, known as sleeper species, are not hard-wired to do so. Their natural tendency to expand is, instead, held back by some external factor. With the climate rapidly changing, Bethany Bradley at the University of Massachusetts wondered whether alterations in temperature and rainfall had the potential to activate some sleeper species. As she reports in a paper in Biological Inuvasions, the answer is a definitive yes. Dr Bradley and her team came to their conclusions by studying 1,795 plant species in northeastern America identifiable as foreign but not yet locally listed as invasive. Of these, 169 were unquestionably demonstrating invasive behaviour in other parts of the world, and causing damage to their environment. That suggested they had the capacity to cause similar damage in America too. To determine whether the conditions coming to the region would activate any of the set 169,the researchers first identified the conditions under which these species would thrive A number of the plants on their list were held back by the cold winters that are less and less common in the region. They also found that some other species required more rainfall than is typical. According to the team’s findings, climate change is on track to awaken 18 sleeper species that could cause serious environmental and economic problems. Dr Bradley estimates that they will establish populations large enough to be noticed between 2040 and 2060 if something is not done soon. The most practical course of action, in her view, is to seek these sleeper species out before they are able to spread. Removing them today may be expensive, but it will be far cheaper than trying to weed them out tomorrow. 32. What strategy do sleeper species employ? A. Rapidly expanding in new environments. B. Patiently waiting for human intervention. C. Remaining inactive until conditions are favorable. D. Avoiding detection by staying in shadowy-corners. 33. What does the underlined word “hard-wired” in paragraph 2 mean? A. Adapted. B. Supported. C. Influenced. D. Born. 34. What did researchers aim to uncover by focusing on the 169 species? A. The potential risks they could pose in the future. B. Their invasive behavior in other parts of the world. C. The reasons why they failed to survive in America. D. Possible ways to make them less common in America. 35. What’s Dr Bradley’s suggestion for dealing with sleeper species? A. Let nature take its course. B. Prevention is better than cure. C. Cutting budgets is a top priority. D. Delay action until it’s necessary. C 33. D 34. A 35. 根据第一段中“The mission is simple. Arrive on foreign soil, fit in and wait. Then, when the time is right, emerge from the shadows and take over. This procedure, familiar from spy fiction as the preserve of sleeper agents, is also the strategy of certain invasive plant species.(任务很简单。 根据第二段“Invasive species that stay put, known as sleeper species, are not hard-wired to do so. Their natural tendency to expand is, instead, held back by some external factor.(待在原地不动的入侵物种,被称为睡眠物种,并不是…… 根据第四段“To determine whether the conditions coming to the region would activate any of the set 169, the researchers first identified the conditions under which these species would thrive. A number of the plants on their list were held back by the cold winters that are less and less common in the region. In class, even when I knew the answer perfectly, I would lower my head, afraid to catch the teacher’s eye. Group discussions were a living nightmare (噩梦), as I was convinced that my ideas were never good enough. This lack of confidence had deeply affected my life in various aspects. One day, my English teacher, Mr. Smith, announced a school-wide English speech contest. Everyone was encouraged to take part. I was filled with fear at the thought of standing on stage in front of so many people. But Mr. Smith, with his sharp eye, seemed to have noticed my hesitation. He came to me after class and said sincerely, “Tom, I think you have great potential. This could be a chance for you to shine.” His words gently planted a small seed of hope in my heart. I decided to give it a try. I spent days writing my speech, carefully choosing every single word. Then came the practice. When I stood in front of the mirror, my hands would shake. But I didn’t give up. I practiced day and night, each time a little more bravely. Finally, the day of the contest arrived. As I stepped onto the stage, my heart was pounding so hard that I could hear it in my ears. The audience seemed like a vast ocean of eyes, all staring at me. For a moment, I froze, my mind going blank. But then, I remembered Mr. Smith's words and all the hard work I had put in. I took a deep breath and began to speak. At first, my voice was soft, but as I gradually got into the rhythm (节奏) of my speech, it grew stronger and more confident. I poured my heart and soul into every sentence, sharing my story sincerely. When I finished, there was a moment of silence, and then thunderous applause (雷鸣般的掌声) filled the hall. I had done it! The host finally announced, “The first-prize winner is Tom!” _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ I walked up to the stage on shaky legs to receive my award. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 The host finally announced, “The first-prize winner is Tom!” I stood rooted to the spot, disbelief and joy washing over me. The words echoed in my ears as if in a dream. My classmates’ cheers blended with the judges’ nods of approval, and I felt a rush of warmth prickling my eyes. Glancing at Mr. Smith, I saw him beaming, his eyes bright with pride. This wasn’t just a win — it was proof that my endless hours of practice and newfound courage had paid off. The fear that once haunted me melted away, replaced by a sense of accomplishment I’d never known. I walked up to the stage on shaky legs to receive my award. As I grasped the trophy, its weight grounded me in reality. “Thank you,” I managed, my voice steady despite the trembling. Turning to face the audience, I spoke from the heart: “Once, I was too afraid to speak up. But Mr. Smith’s belief and my own determination changed that.” The applause swelled again, and I realized confidence isn’t born overnight — it’s forged through challenges. From that day on, I vowed to embrace every opportunity, knowing that beneath my self-doubt lay a strength waiting to shine. 看见:see/catch sight of/spot ②.代替:replace/take the place of ③.意识到:realize/recognize/appreciate 情绪类①.快乐:joy/happiness/delight ②.恐惧害怕: fear/panic/fright/scare 【点睛】[高分句型1]. A Positive. AI Competitors: A Big Race C The creativity TikTok stimulates allows for a broad range of content that encourages users to participate in trends that integrate their passions and hobbies. How BookTok repopularized young adult fiction D The mission is simple. Surviving the first shaking of an earthquake is just the beginning. I lived with a local family in a small village there. Getting clean water was a big problem. Every day, every morning, I went with the women and children on a two hour walk to the nearest well. This daily trip taught me a lot about how people in the community help each other and stay strong. Even though life was tough, people shared what they had and supported one another. I was especially touched by a group of teenage girls. They came up with a plan to help the old neighbours get water. Moved by their good idea, I worked with local students to start a project to collect rainwater for their school. We put in simple collection tools and things to make the water clean. This provided clean water during the rainy season. The project not only helped the school, but also became a place where other villages could learn. This experience made me understand that small actions can bring big changes.
