B In Fujian Province, traditional stone houses offer insights into urban evolution and regional culture. Among all the stone houses in Fujian, one that particularly stands out is located in Shamei Village of Xiang’an District in Xiamen. Once deserted, it has been turned into a restaurant called Yellow Stone House by Felix Kraemer, a German graphic designer—who is also the chef. The transformation process presented countless difficulties; however, Kraemer tends to embrace such challenges. For him, new problems also present new learning opportunities. The identities of a designer and a chef may appear at odds, yet Kraemer sees the two professions as highly related. “Both graphic design and cooking are an exercise in creativity,” he explained. It is the creative process that he values. When he first arrived in Xiamen, he taught graphic design at Xiamen University. Later, he was attracted by the quiet environment and distinctive traditional Minnan (southern Fujian) buildings, and decided to open a restaurant to pursue the quiet life he longed for. A western restaurant in a tiny village? Are there any customers? Can the business survive? These are the questions people commonly ask after hearing about Yellow Stone House. From simple sandwiches and salads to hot dishes, from traditional German food to fusion cuisine, from the basic menu to seasonal specials, Kraemer is always trying and learning. “Over time, an increasing number of guests have arrived, and many regular customers have become our friends. I hope this space will serve as a ‘home away from home’ for all guests, and this idea is becoming a reality,” Kraemer said. Now, Yellow Stone House has evolved into a popular gathering spot for international students at Xiamen University, not only due to its hearty cuisine but also owing to the warm and welcoming behavior of its owner. 4. What does Kraemer think of the challenges? A They are too difficult to handle. B. They are chances for his growth. C. They are not worth his effort. D. They are out of his expectations. 5. What does the underlined phrase “at odds” in paragraph 3 probably mean? A. Completely different. B. Naturally connected. C. Hard to understand. D. Highly valuable. 6. Why did Kraemer open the Yellow Stone House? A. To teach graphic design. B. To promote German culture. C. To lead a peaceful life. D. To invest in local tourism. 7. Which of the following can best describe Kraemer? A. Hesitant and cautious. B. Driven and ambitious. C. Regretful and doubtful. D. Creative and adaptable. C Oliver Hauser, an economist at the University of Exeter in the U. K. who studies artificial intelligence, wanted to try answering the basic question of whether AI could increase creativity. “It does have a sort of incredible ability to come up with content at the click of a button,” he says. “However, AI can often produce stories that are similar in nature.” To try and get some hard data on the question of creativity, Hauser teamed up with Anil Doshi at the School of Management, University College London. They recruited (招募) nearly 300 people, who were not identified as professional writers. “We asked them to write a short, eight-sentence story,” he says. Around one-third of the writers had to come up with ideas on their own, while others were given starter ideas generated by the chatbot ChatGPT (powered by GPT-4o). Those who got help were divided into two subgroups: one that got a single AI-generated idea, and the other that got to choose from up to five. Above all, Doshi says, both the human-only and AI-assisted groups had to write the stories themselves. Their writings were judged by a group of 600 evaluators who were asked to grade each story based on its “novelty” and “usefulness”. The results found that stories written with AI’s help were considered both more novel and useful. Writers who had access to one AI idea did better, but those who had access to five ideas saw the biggest boost — they wrote stories seen as around 8% more novel than human writings with their own ideas, and 9% more useful. So AI really does appear to make people more creative. But there’s a plot twist: When Hauser and Doshi looked at all the stories, they found a different effect. “Collectively speaking, there was a smaller diversity of novelty in the group that had AI,” Hauser says. In other words, the chatbot made each individual more creative, but it made the group that AI helped less creative. “We do worry that, on a large scale, if many people are using this… overall diversity and creativity in the population will go down,” he says. 8. What is the limitation of AI in creativity according to Oliver Hauser? A. It reduces individual creativity. B. It often generates similar stories. C. It requires professional instruction. D. It can hardly produce original content. 9. What is the second paragraph mainly about? A. Findings of the writing experiment. B. Hauser’s cooperation with ChatGPT. C. Evaluation of non-professional writers. D. Comparison of human and AI-assisted writing. 10. What did the evaluators focus on when grading each story? A. The intention of the judges. B. The length and complexity. C. The level of AI application. D. The originality and practicability 11. What is Hauser’s attitude toward the findings of the study? A. Skeptical. B. Indifferent. C. Concerned. D. Objective. D Does this situation sound familiar? A colleague approaches and asks, “Hey, what are you up to this weekend?” You tell her you’re not sure, but nothing big. She replies with her own vivid plans. “I’m going to my lake house, and we’re having a massive bonfire.” What seems like a genuine expression of interest in you suddenly shifts and becomes a chance for your colleague to complain or share herself. I call this strategy “boomerasking”, and it happens constantly. Studies show that between 40% and 60% of conversational speech is ego-related, with this percentage even higher on social media, reaching up to 80%. we often show interest in others by asking questions or acknowledging their viewpoints, egocentrism (自我中心主义) makes it difficult to maintain this focus. Humans naturally focus on themselves. Also, sharing personal information can signal trust and shape others’ impressions of us, helping us seem interesting, confident, and likable. However, too much self-centered talk can damage a conversation. So many people try to balance their self-centeredness by using indirect methods, like pretending to be modest, mentioning important people, or giving mixed praise. But among all the ways we attempt to mask (掩饰) our self-centeredness, boomerasking might be the worst — as it takes away the great benefits that come from asking questions. Asking sincere questions, listening to others’ answers and following up on those answers may be the easiest and most powerful pathway to shared understanding and interpersonal connection. Boomerasking ruins the magic. Failing to follow up on your partner’s answer and answering the question yourself instead make others feel like you probably don’t care about them when you ask the question to begin the chat. Next time you ask someone about their plans, make it about them. Listen, follow up with genuine curiosity, and resist the urge to turn the conversation back to yourself immediately. By doing so, you’ll strengthen connections and build more meaningful relationships. 12. What is a feature of “boomerasking” according to the text? A. Listening carefully to others before responding. B. Complaining constantly while talking about oneself. C. Asking others a question and waiting for a detailed answer. D. Asking others a question and then instantly shifting back to oneself. 13. Why do people share personal information in conversations? A. To end boring chats. B. To seek others’ praise. C. To build positive images. D. To highlight their own achievements. 14. How does “boomerasking” impact a conversation? A. It prevents meaningful interactions. B. It helps build stronger connections. C. It leads to more interesting discussions. D. It results in embarrassment in conversations. 15. What is the author’s purpose of writing the text? A. To explain what “boomerasking” is. B. To warn about the negative impact of egocentrism. C. To promote self-centeredness in social interactions. D. To encourage sharing more personal information online. How to Build a Positive Mindset A positive mindset is a powerful tool, aiding in facing challenges with confidence, enhancing happiness, and creating a fulfilling life. Excitement filled the group, their laughter echoing through the trees. Among them, Mike and his three closest friends — Ali, Jack, and Henry — were determined to be the first to reach the top. After a long and tiring climb, they finally stood at the summit. A breathtaking view stretched before them — rolling green hills fading into the horizon, a sparkling river winding (蜿蜒) through the valley below, and clouds moving slowly across the vast blue sky. The boys stood in amazement, letting the cool breeze brush against their faces. “This is amazing,” Mike whispered, unable to take his eyes off the view. They spent some time enjoying the peaceful moment, taking pictures, and sharing snacks. However, as the afternoon sun began its slow descent (下降), Mike called out, “Time to head back down before it gets too late!” Reluctantly (勉强地), the group began their descent. The trail was steep, but the boys moved quickly — until something caught their attention. Along the path were strange and beautiful stones, each with its unique shape and pattern. “Look at this one! It’s shaped like a star!” Jack exclaimed, holding a small, smooth stone. “This one looks like a dinosaur tooth!” Henry added, putting it into his pocket. Fascinated the boys started searching for more. They picked up stones of different colors, comparing their finds and laughing at the funny shapes. Time slipped by unnoticed as they wandered along the trail, filling their backpacks with their treasures. It wasn’t until Tom looked up that they realized it was too late. Worse still, at some point, dark clouds gathered, and a gust of wind blew through, making the trees rustle In an instant, light rain began to fall from the sky. “It’s starting to rain!” Ali complained. Mike frowned, adjusting to the weight of his stone-filled backpack. “We need to hurry up before the rain gets heavier,” he said. They hiked down well and fast, but suddenly Mike slipped and hurt his ankle. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ After some thought, Ali came up with an idea. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 高三英语 本试卷满分150分,考试时间120分钟。 How much is the shirt? A. They are too difficult to handle. C To lead a peaceful life. D. To invest in local tourism. 7. Which of the following can best describe Kraemer? A. Hesitant and cautious. B. Driven and ambitious. C. Regretful and doubtful. D. Creative and adaptable. 4. B 5. A 6. C 7. K. who studies artificial intelligence, wanted to try answering the basic question of whether AI could increase creativity. C. Concerned. D. Objective. B 9. D 10. D 11. 根据第三段“Their writings were judged by a group of 600 evaluators who were asked to grade each story based on its “novelty” and “usefulness”. 12 D 13. C 14. A 15. Fascinated, the boys started searching for more. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】They hiked down well and fast, but suddenly Mike slipped and hurt his ankle. They had to stop because Mike’s left ankle swelled up and it hurt a lot when he put his left foot on the ground. It was just then that the rain got heavier, and their limbs were numb with cold. To make matters worse, the dim light made it hard for them to recognize the trail, which would increase the danger if they continued. A wave of fear and anxiety swept over the boys. “What should we do?” Mike cried out in a trembling voice. After some thought, Ali came up with an idea. He put Mike on his back with Henry keeping them balanced beside them and Jack leading the way. And they took turns to carry Mike if one felt tired. The cold rain was pounding on them, and sweat dripped down their cheeks, but they dared not stop because they were fully aware that the later it got, the more challenges and dangers they might meet. They were racing against time! They took every step cautiously, and finally they reached the bottom of the mountain safely. 词汇激活 行为类 ①辨认:recognize/identify ②喊道,叫道:cry out/shout out ③到达:reach/get to/arrive at 情绪类 ①恐惧:fear/dread ②焦虑:anxiety/inquietude 【点睛】[高分句型1] To make matters worse, the dim light made it hard for them to recognize the trail, which would increase the danger if they continued.(运用了which引导的非限制性定语从句和if引导的条件状语从句) [高分句型2] They had to stop because Mike’s left ankle swelled up and it hurt a lot when he put his left foot on the ground.(运用了because引导的原因状语从句和when引导的时间状语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
